Добрый день! Уважаемые читатели и гости блога Pyatilistnik.org. Не так давно мы с вами разбирали резервное копирование серверов, на основе Windows архивации в Windows Server 2012 R2, сегодня начнем рассматривать другой продукт под названием NetBackup, в котором я получил ошибку status code 96, unable to allocate new media for backup, storage until has none avaliable. В результате нее, задание не смогло выполниться, что согласитесь не очень приятно, когда дело доходит до сохранности данных.

Алгоритм решения ошибки NetBackup status code: 96

Когда вы зайдете в отчеты «Status of Backups», то можете обнаружить вот такое предупреждение:

unable to allocate new media for backup, storage until has none avaliable

NetBackup status code 96-01

Если посмотреть более детальное описание в ошибке, то вы обнаружите вот такое сообщение:

The NetBackup Resource Broker (nbrb) did not allocate a new volume for backups. This error indicates that the storage until has no more volumes avaliable in the volume pool that is specified for this backup. Node that NetBackup does not change storage units during the backup

NetBackup status code 96-02

Как видно из ошибки 96, тут вся проблема в том, что в пуле, куда производится резервное копирование, нет доступных носителей для записи. Что делаем, запускаем cmd от имени администратора и переходим в каталог C:Program FilesVeritasNetBackupbingoodies и запускаем из него файл available_media.cmd, который покажет есть ли у вас доступные кассеты в пуле. У меня задание бэкапилось в пул «DataStore pool» и в нем как видите свободных кассет нет, все имеют статус Active, но вот во втором пуле, кассеты есть со статусом Avaliable. Записываем их имя.

Далее переходим в пункт Media и выбираем нужный Volume Pool, в котором есть доступные носители. В списке носителей, выбираем нужный и ставим переключатель в меню «Volume pool» на New pool. Из списка выберите, в какой пул отправить данный носитель. После чего сохраним наше изменение.

Далее запускаете задание или ждете его автоматического запуска, и в активности заданий «Activity Monitor», вы видите, что все отлично работает и резервное копирование в NetBackup идет. What is Netbackup Error 96 error?

The Netbackup Error 96 error is the Hexadecimal format of the error caused. This is common error code format used by windows and other windows compatible software and driver vendors.

This code is used by the vendor to identify the error caused. This Netbackup Error 96 error code has a numeric error number and a technical description. In some cases the error may have more parameters in Netbackup Error 96 format .This additional hexadecimal code are the address of the memory locations where the instruction(s) was loaded at the time of the error.

What causes Netbackup Error 96 error?

The Netbackup Error 96 error may be caused by windows system files damage. The corrupted system files entries can be a real threat to the well being of your computer.

There can be many events which may have resulted in the system files errors. An incomplete installation, an incomplete uninstall, improper deletion of applications or hardware. It can also be caused if your computer is recovered from a virus or adware/spyware
attack or by an improper shutdown of the computer. All the above actives
may result in the deletion or corruption of the entries in the windows
system files. This corrupted system file will lead to the missing and wrongly
linked information and files needed for the proper working of the
application.

How to easily fix Netbackup Error 96 error?

There are two (2) ways to fix Netbackup Error 96 Error:

1) Start your computer and log on as an administrator.

2) Click the Start button then select All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, and then click System Restore.

3) In the new window, select «Restore my computer to an earlier time» option and then click Next.

4) Select the most recent system restore point from the «On this list, click a restore point» list, and then click Next.

5) Click Next on the confirmation window.

6) Restarts the computer when the restoration is finished.

Novice Computer User Solution (completely automated):

1) Download (Netbackup Error 96) repair utility.

2) Install program and click Scan button.

3) Click the Fix Errors button when scan is completed.

4) Restart your computer.

Status code 96 in Veritas Netbackup server

If you have a chance to work with Veritas Netbackup server this error code you would probably see.

Error code 96 throwing error in Activity monitor mainly because of unavailability of media.

Why media is not available to write images ? several reason….

1) Media is full

2) Media is suspend mode

3)Media is frozen

4) Media Retention period and the net backup policy retention policy is different ( Tape retention policy is 1 and policy retention period is 1 month ( basically 2)

4) There is no media in Volume pool

So Netbackup Administrator should be vigilant in daily monitoring these media status by using a use full command to check  what happens to tape media.

This will throw the media is in full or frozen or suspend or available.

Based on this unfreeze the media or find out new tape and put it in to the correct volume pool.

other use full command to see a particular media status is below

C:Program FilesVeritasNetBackupbinadmincmd>nbemmcmd -listmedia -mediaid TP0064

( TP064 defines the label name of tape)

output of this command would be below. Here you can find out the retention period of tape, when this image will be expire and Media status.

Here media status is showing Active, it may be vary like Full or Frozen.

If you want to expire the image in particular tape we can use below command ( be sure that you would not require this data in future)

C:Program FilesVeritasNetBackupbinadmincmd> bpexpdate -m TP0064 -d 0

This will expire media TP0064 and will be available for next backup .

I just installed netbackup 5.1 on my environment. I have a DLT and 4mm cartridge standalone drives on my server. I have on my backup domain 1 unix server and 3 win clients. I have tested backup of the installation individually on each client and I was able to backup to the drives.

I have created some policies and scheduled it to run but they displayed error 96, unable to allocate new media for backup, storage unit has none available. The unix server policy backed up but the clients gave the error 96.

When I ran same policies to backup to disk, they were successful. Reason being that disk storage policy attribute doesnt have storage unit. I believe my problem has something to do with storage unit, media or volume pool.

When I ran /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/goodies/available_media, I found out that all the media are active. There is no one available for backup. Probably thats where the error is coming from.

My question is, how can I make media available for backup if this is the problem. I have put new media into the drive but I still got same error. How can I configure media and have them available for backup? How was the other media active and when I put new media, I didnt know how and where to configure it available. On subsequent scheduled backups, how do I make new media (tapes) available instead of active.

If you got failed or error with Netbackup, sometimes it’s not easy to troubleshoot. The common error that always faced with my customer is ‘status code 196 : client backup was not attempted because backup window closed‘, or the worst is the got ‘status code 96 : unable to allocate new media for backup, storage unit has none available‘.

I think if you familiar with Netbackup, and somebody told you about these error code, probably with confident smile you will say, “Owh, its easy man; for status code 196, check the backup schedule then re-arrange the backup window time between all server, client and mediaserver and then for status code 96, just simply put new cartridges on its volume pool, then run backup again, I bet 100% the error code will gone. right?.
