VST Vanguard
Vanguard

У меня выяснилось, что ошибка в Out of memory.

При выходе стала вылезать ошибка «A serious program error has occured».

EDIT: SOLVED by performing a «full reset»
https://help.ableton.com/hc/en-us/articles/209070609-How-to-reset-Live
Original post:
Any ideas on how to fix?
As soon as I open Live I get this message: «A serious program error has occurred. Live will shut down as soon as this message box is closed. Please restart Live and follow the instructions in the ‘Report a Crash’ lesson that will appear in Live’s Help View.»
I can’t report the crash because it crashes as soon as it opens, whether I try to click anything or not.
It started yesterday afternoon. I had been using it in the morning to record some ideas. I have no idea what could be causing the crash. I didn’t download anything in the last few days. I’ve been using this DAW almost two years now. I have rebooted Windows several times.
I read on some forums where other users have encountered this issue and people recommended uninstalling all 3rd party plugins, then see if Ableton works. Then they suggest that if the error has stopped, reinstall each plugin, one at a time, and open Ableton after installing each one… That would probably take several days to accomplish in my case. I also read case after case where the OP would try that and it still wouldn’t fix the issue.
I just noticed that there is an update I need to download and install for Windows, so I will try that and see if it helps. Will update you all afterward. Please lmk if you need any more info to help me. Thank you r/Ableton!
Specs:
Ableton Live 10 Standard
Windows 10 64 bit
ASUS Laptop, 12 GB RAM
UPDATE: I downloaded and installed the latest Windows update and I get the same error.
UPDATE 2: I’ve determined that this issue began after the update to 10.1.13, which happened a few days ago. Probably on the day this problem started. Users have recommended that I delete my default project template, and also to try renaming the folder that contains all my third part plugins, which will make a new default one when I open again. I will try this and update.
UPDATE 3: SOLVED! Performing a full reset resolved the crash. Thank you again, r/Ableton!
-
I attempted first to rename the folder that contains all my third party plugins. I learned you can also hold ‘alt’ during startup and Ableton won’t try to load any 3rd party VSTs. It still crashed.
-
I then attempted to delete my default project template (https://help.ableton.com/hc/en-us/articles/209067189-Creating-new-or-blank-Template-Sets):
Windows: Users[username]AppDataRoamingAbletonLive x.x.xPreferencesTemplate.als
It’s kind of misleading because I found the template file in another folder under 10.1.13 called «BaseFiles» that contained a file called «DefaultLiveSet.als.» This is the default template. I deleted it and it still crashed with the same error message.
3) I did find this help article from Ableton’s website (https://help.ableton.com/hc/en-us/articles/209773265-Troubleshooting-a-crash). Because Ableton crashes on Launch for me, I tried what it says about performing a full reset of Live (https://help.ableton.com/hc/en-us/articles/209070609-How-to-reset-Live):
«Windows
-
Close Live.
-
In Windows Explorer, open this hidden folder (where x.x.x is the installed version of Live, eg. 10.1.1):
Users[username]AppDataRoamingAbletonLive x.x.xPreferences
Note: Here’s how to access hidden folders on Windows. -
Delete Preferences.cfg, Undo folder (in Live 9 this is Undo.cfg) and Template.als (if present).
-
Launch Live.»
SUCESS!
10.1.13/ the part of Ableton I get to enjoy on a daily basis rn

Serious program error tip on Ableton Live
Hi all,
I had recently a big problem with Ableton Live after a crash : «A serious program error has occurred. Live will shut down after this message box is closed». Problem was, impossible to launch Ableton after that. I tried to desinstall / reinstall but problem was still there.
Solution is go to C:UsersYour user nameAppDataRoamingAbleton
Please note that AppData is a hidden file, so you shall adjust on control panel and files option to make visible the hidden file.
Then rename the file Ableton (Ableton old for example) then try to launch Ableton, it shall work
I spent 6 hours to find the solution, hope it will help.

Post is how to launch Ableton live when it’s completely stuck. As I tried to deinstall / install several times Ableton Live 8.2 then 8.4 before finding the solution, maybe Ableton has been reseted. I did not lost my paterns and my live sets as they were saved on an external drive. I use Ableton only for the launchpad, I use Cubase to create my tracks then I export on .wav to use them on my launchpad for concerts. Sorry for not being more helpful.

Ableton Live 11 a serious program error has occured
Post by coreylewis25 » Sun Jul 25, 2021 9:01 pm
I am currently my 40/50th day into the trial. I am moving from logic to ableton and I am due to purchase ableton.
However all of a sudden I keep getting this error?, I have tried to install and reinstall like 10 times now and can’t get anywhere. I have not installed or done anything differently I just loaded my computer after a couple of days and now it’s not working??
I have attached a picture of my ableton folder.
I would appreciate any help please.

As Jur suggested, sometimes a plugin can cause issues (especially «flaky» plugins) but if that does not fix the issue, try a «preference wipe» of live:
C:Users[YOUR USER]AppDataRoamingAbleton[YOUR LIVE VERSION]
Just rename the folder for your live version to make a backup and this will reset the preferences so you can hopefully launch. A tip to save some time for future, if reinstalling an application does not fix the issue you can usually save yourself the time of trying the exact same thing another 9 times, it probably wont change the outcome.

Hello, Thank you both for your replies. I’ve tried both methods you suggested however, now it won’t open just says creating bug report and leaves a zip file in the Ableton folder. My only problem I have is i set tthe vst2 and vst3 folder set up to C;//program files as all my plug ins seem to have scattered through there, so it’s quite difficult to move them as all my programmes/software is there.
UPDATE!: I have just got into Ableton, turned off vst2 and vst3 folder and I am STILLLLL getting this error?
Re: Ableton Live 11 a serious program error has occured

Never a good idea to add the full root location because there are many files that cannot be added and some that could create issues with the scanner. The only reason they would be scattered is because you have not paid the required attention on installation and imply clicked Next > Next. You need to set a location then remember to install things correctly. I’d recommend cleaning that side up when you can as that will make things difficult.
Ok, with that preference folder renamed/removed, uninstall Live and then reinstall again.
If you have issues from there, support@ableton.com would be the best bet, send the crash log.
But yeah, you really wanna clean up your VST install mess a bit first

«A serious program error has occurred.

‘Report a Crash’ lesson that will appear in Live’s Help View.»
I get this every time I try and open a file. It started this morning, but I was using it fine all day yesterday *(and every day before that for months) and I haven’t added any new VSTs in weeks. All the trouble started today, this morning. While I haven’t explicitly paid attention to the version number I’ve been on recently, I had the autoupdate feature on so I’m assuming it was 9.2.1; and thus I’m wondering if the problems are because of 9.2.2, as I had the autoupdate feature on, and I see 9.2.2 just came out 2 days ago. Though again, I used it all day yesterday with no issues, its likely I haven’t «quit» out in a couple of days, so perhaps when I did last night is when Autoupdate brought me to 9.2.2.
I trashed the preferences and at least can get the program to open but no sessions will open. Is there any where I can download 9.2.1?
P.S. MacBook Pro Retina 15 inch/mid 2014, OS X Yosemite 10.10.3, 2.5 ghz i7, 16 gigs ram

Update:
— tried resetting — deleted preferences, template and undo etc — crashed anyway
— removed plug ins and reinstalled one at a time — crashed anyway
— tried importing tracks from within the blank template from an existing session. tried dragging all of them (appx 25) and it crashed. tried again and was able to drag and drop a few at a time — got all the way to the last three then it crashed
— so i tried again, dragging and dropping ONLY those 3 that made it crash before, and this time they worked…but then it crashed when i went in reverse from there, adding the other tracks
— my “_autoupdates” folder says it was modified today 3:33pm which is when the problems started going down so it must be when 9.2.2 automatically installed itself over 9.2.1
— downloaded 9.1.1. now everything works.

OK, but I certainly don’t have this issue at every update and I commonly use every beta version too. I have had some bouts with instability, but found the solutions for these and applied them. This have included new hardware, re-installation of the OS and of every piece of music software as well as setting up and updating everything. It might be that the problem is with your system. I use Live 9 on OS X 10.9 as well as, to a lesser extent, in Windows 7.
Once you’ve fixed this you need to make sure you make a full backup of a working system, separated from your production backups, so you can get back to it if you later update and encounter issues again.

No I wasn’t able to find a link to 9.2.1 anywhere for download, and the only other version I could find on my machine or my backups was 9.1.1 which, happily, worked.
. actually I just launched Ableton by opening a file (as opposed to launching the software first) and it opened in 9.2.0, which I didn;t realize I still had on my machine! Indeed I can’t find it in my apps anywhere but clearly the file is still somewhere on my drive. Anyway the good news is everything works fine in 9.2.0 as well as 9.1.1, it’s just 9.2.2 that’s bad news. Also I just got a link from Ableton support to download 9.2.1, I’ll try that later when my internet connection is fast enough to DL it but for now I’m just happy my stuff works, and am definitely not going to use auto update (or 9.2.2) anymore!

Yes, that approach, manual updates, has proven to be very fruitful for many. Usually updates go by like a breeze but once in a while you hit on something.
I think I’ve made a request to Ableton support to make it possible to regret an update and go back. One way to do that is to make sure you keep the previous installation on your drive. This is easy on OS X at least as you just make a copy and rename it by adding its version number. Otherwise just keep the installation image around. I always keep the previous version for a few weeks. Though keeping multiple versions around is something Ableton themselves for some reason dissuade from, I feel the extra control makes this worthwhile. Personally I always have at least 2 versions on my disk, the current and the beta.
I control all network connections including automatic updates with Little Snitch, a shareware application. If you do think it’s convenient with auto-updates this allows you to exercise some control over when the update happen.
One strong example on why to turn off automatic updates!:
Imagine you are going to play a gig. While you’re preparing in the studio Live is updated as you have automatic updates active. You unknowingly go to the gig and mid-gig you encounter a problem you have never had before, because of a bug in the new version, an incompatibility with one of your plug-ins or anything else that could be a fact or little detail that you missed. Embarrassing?
This could be any other important event. The alternative is to never let that happen and do updates manually at times when you can encounter problems and tackle them. Time is the essence. You always make a better choice than what Ableton can when is the best time to update.

I keep getting this message and crash:
«Ableton Live
A serious program error has occurred.
Live will shut down after this message box is closed.
A crash log was dumped into. etc.»
I’ve been checking activity monitor and I’m not pushing the RAM very hard.
I’m not doing anything particularly intensive either.

I’m not using any third party plugins.
It seems to happen whenever I save now.
I’m using Maxforlive but only with Henkes Grnaulator and the buffer shuffler.

Next thing to try is deleting your preference files. On OSX they are the .plist files. Search on your computer for com.ableton.plist or something like that. Just delete them, they will rebuild themselves. You can do it on Windows, but I can’t remember how.
Email support too!

Thanks for the help. Running OSX so will search out the .plist file.
I’ve mailed the crash report made and will mail support if the problem persists.

The main Live preferences file to delete (quit Live first) is:
(you may take screenshots («cmd — shift — 4» — then: spacebar —> mouse over prefs window —> click) of your Live settings first.)
the other is: /Users/punching_sandwiches/Library/Preferences/com.ableton.live.plist (probably deleting is of no use here, but just go for it. )

Out of memory means what it means!
I get it all the time. Get a software like Istat Menus to monitor your RAM. at around 2.7 Gigs that Live uses , it will crash.
I try to manage the RAM when I build Live Sets.
Also Live doesn’t clear its memory when you open a new set. Always close Live when you want to open another Live Set.
It’S not a bug, it’s because it’s 32 bits.

Hoping someone has some advice. I’m getting the following message in a dialogue box, that causes the Ableton splash screen to hang after just trying to create the First opening live set:
«A serious program error has occurred.
Live will shut down after this message box is closed.
Please restart live and follow the instructions in the report a crash lesson that will appear in Live’s help view.»
After closing down the dialogue box and trying to start Ableton again, the same thing repeatedly happens.
I’ve also tried restarting the machine and same again.
The latest version of Ableton 9 is also installed.

Try delete the Live preferences (not uninstall):
Also, if if it is trying to load but then crashes try and take note of what it is doing (such as scanning VSTs). Could be one that is not compatible or has an issue.

I’ve downloaded the zip file again and will try another install.
The original file was downloaded to an (assumed) Ext4 filesystem, then moved to NTFS, unpacked and installed — so may have been corrupted during this process.
Will try your suggestion if no joy.

Yes, My Live 10 crashes on start if my default set contains a Max4Live device. In my case my default set usually contains a convolution reverb.
With version of Live10 over around 10.2 this will crash on start.
My solution has been to remove the convolution reverb from my default set, let live load and then add it.
It’s a rare bug I think (meaning it only affects a few users) but I have several issues logged in centercode which relate to it.
L10-BUG-0634 Crash on start
is my earliest
L10-BUG-5259 is todays!
I advise you to follow earlier advice to delete your preferences. But you may like to try deleting your default set . That may be the trigger if it contains M4L devices.
It’s my opinion based on nothing but my own case that this is related to certain Windows 7 setups. I don’t know if you are running Win7.
Win 7 handled circular references badly and that was improved in Win10. But this is a guess based on whisps of half knowledge.

hmmm — yeah i been getting these crashes too, i been sending plenty crash reports to ableton over the last few months trying to figure it out, they’ve been pretty helpful but it’s still happening. i been thinking it’s due to either: 1. one of my own mfl devices i use to interact with my controllers. 2.something to do with my Jbridge 32 to 64 bit plugins 3.t-racks deluxe suite plugins, or 4.some ableton mfl device. i’m coming to the conclusion that it might be 4 as i’ve been using 1,2 and 3 for years with no probs. and i’ve heard mention of the convolution reverb device being the possible culprit but i can’t be sure. i have it on a send on my default set, the crashed seem intermittent though. i can load the default set no problem but if i then load an als file it will sometimes crash and then i can’t open anyting else until i reboot
annoying AF

Just a hunch, maybe another edge case (or not).
@Angstrom; thanks for your reply, I’ve read your reports on centercode, i’m experiencing somewhat similar behavior, i’ll keep following it.

I fixed the issues after use right click on «Ableton Live x Suite.exe» and use «Delete from Firewall».
1- Turn off Firewall Windows
2 — Right click on «Ableton Live x Suite.exe» and use «Delete from Firewall»
3 — Run «Ableton Live x Suite.exe»
X = Version of software

Please help! Im using Ableton live lite. I just started. My live set crashes. It will hang and I’m forced to quit Live. I restart it and get crash files to send to Ableton. The crash or hang happens at the exact same place after restarting the live set which crashed. They dont tell me what caused the crash uuugghh! I have only 7 VST third party plug ins. But the crash happened while using a drum plug in. Its updated though. Im really confused now. Should I uninstall live lite? How do I know if its my plug ins? One of the plug ins was purchased and not free. Thank Kindly.

I recently upgraded Ableton live 6 to 8, and now none of my native instruments plugins are working? The ones I particularly want working again are the Xpress keyboards pack (FM7, B4, Pro-53) as I’m doing a live show in a week and I really need those sounds.
When I go to add or open a plugin it starts to load then comes up with ‘A serious program error has occurred. Live will shut down after this message box is closed.’I am running Ableton 8.0.3 (previously running 6.0.7) and have a Novation SL MKII, M-audio Axiom connected.
Please help?

ModeratorI’m betting your plugin folder’s in C:Program Files, correct? Live 8’s very fussy about things in C:Program Files under Vista. If so:
1) run Live as administrator instead of just with UAC turned off.
If you still get those errors2) move your plugin folder out of Program Files, either to the root of your C: drive or to another drive.
In either case, afterwards either deselect and reselect your plugin folder or trash Live’s preferences .cfg

Thankyou so much! It worked! I can’t believe it was something so simple like that!

It hasn’t worked for me.
I have the same error, just with another plugin (SideChCompSt.dll). I’ve used it for side-chaining in earlier versions of Ableton and it worked perfectly. Why not now? Any ideas?
