| How To Install Ableton Themes

For the below tutorials, we will be using the top downloaded theme from Livethemes.co entitled ‘Spotify UI‘.

Mac

Step 1: Copy Theme

Start by opening Finder and copying your new theme. Do this by selecting the .ask file and pressing [COMMAND + C].

Step 2: Open Package Contents

Next, access the Applications folder. Locate the Ableton application, right-click it and select ‘Show Package Contents’.

Step 3: Paste Theme

Finally, head to Content > App Resources > Themes and paste the theme by pressing [COMMAND + OPTION + V] .

Windows

Step 1: Copy Theme

Start by opening File Explorer and copying your new theme. Do this by selecting the .ask file and pressing [CNTRL + X].

Step 2: Open Application Contents

Next, head to C:ProgramDataAbletonLive 10 SuiteResourcesThemes.

Step 3: Paste Theme

Finally, paste the theme by pressing [CNTRL + V] .

| How To Change Ableton Theme

Changing the theme in Ableton is simple:

Step 1: Start by opening Live’s preferences in the top menu bar.

Step 2: Select the ‘Look Feel’ tab at the top left of the preferences window.

Step 3: Under the ‘Colors’ heading, select the ‘Theme’ drop-down box. Choose from the five pre-installed themes that come with each version of Live. Any additional installed themes are also listed here.

Ableton Skins / Themes

Sometimes you hear them referred to as skins – this is what they were called in Ableton Live 9 and earlier. Themes is just the new word since Live 10. If you have an older version of Live, just substitute the word skins! The format has changed slightly.

Where To Put Ableton Skins (Ableton Themes Folder)

To install a theme… first, if the skin file is zipped you should unzip it to reveal the .ask file.

On a Mac… you need to locate the Ableton application (in the Applications folder) ctrl-click on it and click ‘Show Package Contents’. Navigate to Content, then App Resources, then Themes and add the theme here.

On a PC… Add the theme into the Program Data folder for Ableton, some thing like C:ProgramDataAbletonLive 10 SuiteResourcesThemes (in older versions of live, the folder could be called ‘Skins’)

Then load up Ableton and then Preferences (ctrl + comma) and select the theme under the ‘Look Feel’ tab.

OSX DARK MODE 2020 – great for late night studio sessions – dark mode with nothing too bright on the eyes…

Flat clean Neonwave / Cyberpunk – a cool synthwave-styled dark theme.

Pastel 0.2 – really plain pastel coloured theme that is easy on the eyes. Similar to the default theme but paler/prettier.

Light cloud – I love this theme, it looks great. Different to the studio-all-nighter dark themes that we’ve mentioned so far – if you like light themes this is the one.

Spotify UI – one of the most popular themes around – modelled after the music platform’s UI – a dark mode beast with green highlights.

How to make your own Ableton Live Skins

The most basic way to make your own templates is to go to your themes folder, and then open the theme’s .ask in a text editor and manually edit it by hand (a basic understanding of coding would help but it is fairly straight forward). You have to make the changes, save it and then open it in Ableton to see the changes.

You can get an editor…
Here’s a an editor for PC called Fuzz, and one for Mac called Pelt. They are both very similar – you can use a colour picker to edit the themes. These are a great way to be able to see changes as you make them.

OR, option 3, you can use the online editor at abletonthemes.com which is a website where they have a lot of themes. You can choose any of them and then edit them yourself and down them using their editor (you have to register first).

You can also choose from any of their other themes and then edit and make changes to them into something you like more. The five themes we reviewed above are from this site, you can re-edit them all on the site too.

Дaлee нaжимaeм Сoxpaнить и зaпoлняeм пoлe нaзвaниe и нaжимaeм Сoxpaнить eщe paз.

Сoxpaнeниe тeмы

Пocлe этoгo мoжнo зaгpузить нaшу тeму. Пpocтo нaжмитe Скaчaть и oнa зaгpузитcя нa вaш кoмпьютep.

Для тoгo чтoбы Ableton Live увидeл нaшу нoвую тeму, ee нeoбxoдимo пoмecтить в пaпку «Themes», кoтopaя пo умoлчaнию нaxoдитcя пo этoму пути:

Edit: Updated for Live 10/11, for which the skins were improved and are now called themes.

I’ve created 6 new Ableton Live skins that you can download for free. In case, you don’t know how to install them, here are the instructions for both Windows and Mac. It’s a good idea to have Live closed while adding the skins. It’s not tragic, if it’s open, but the skins will only show once you restart Live anyway.

Windows

The zip-file with the skins should be in the designated downloads folder of your internet browser. If you’re unsure where that is, check the preferences of your chosen browser for the location.
First you need to unzip the folder. For this, right-click the folder in the Windows Explorer, click ‘Extract All’, and then follow the instructions.
Open the unzipped folder, select all with the command Ctrl + A, then copy them with Ctrl + C.
- With Live up to version 9, navigate to C:ProgramDataAbletonLive x VersionResourcesSkins (Windows 7 and up)* or C:Program FilesAbletonLiveResourcesSkins (older Windows) and paste the skins in with Ctrl + V.
- From Live 10, skins are now called themes. Navigate to C:ProgramDataAbletonLive x VersionResourcesThemes (Windows 7 and up)* or C:Program FilesAbletonLiveResourcesThemes (older Windows) and paste the skins in with Ctrl + V.
Once you open Live, go to the Preferences>Look/Feel with Ctrl + , and choose your preferred skin under, you probably already guessed it, Skins (up to Live 9) or Themes (from Live 10). Done.

* depends on the respective Live version you have, e.g. Live 9 Suite.

Mac OS X

The Skins zip-file will most likely be in the Downloads folder.
Unzip the folder by double-clicking it.
Open the unzipped folder, select all with the command Cmd + A, then copy them with Cmd + C.
- Up to Live 9, navigate to Ableton Live in your Applications folder, right-click (or ctrl-click) it and select ‘Show Package Contents’, then go to Contents/App-Resources/Skins and paste them in with Cmd + V.
- From Live 10, navigate to Ableton Live in your Applications folder, right-click (or ctrl-click) it and select ‘Show Package Contents’, then go to Contents/App-Resources/Themes and paste them in with Cmd + V.
Once you open Live, go to the Preferences>Look/Feel with Cmd + , and choose your preferred skin under Skins (up to Live 9), or Themes (from Live 10).

If you want to create your own skins, you can use the Skin Editor. It’s available for free for both Windows and Mac. The created skins work with all versions of Live up to 9.

Стандартные средства изменить тему в Ableton Live довольно скромны и располагаются в настройках Ableton Live в разделе «Look Feel». В этом разделе есть выпадающий список с дефолтными темами и несколько ручек регуляторов (яркости, насыщенности и оттенка) Можно добиться интересных цветовых решений, но все они будут шаблонными, т.к. изменить цветовую схему отдельных элементов в Ableton Live мы не сможем.

Нестандартные методы чтобы поменять тему в Ableton Live

Из нестандартных методов хотелось бы отметить онлайн конструктор, на который я наткнулся сравнительно недавно. Его простота и удобство и функционал меня приятно удивили, потому спешу поделиться находкой с вами.

Речь идет об Ableton Themes. Сайт представляет собой простой конструктор с интуитивным интерфейсом и возможностью скачать как готовые темы, так и создать на их базе свою тему.

Сайт работает не особо быстро, поэтому не спешите закрывать и перезагружать вкладку. Наберитесь терпения, результат того явно стоит.

Все что необходимо сделать, это пройти регистрацию, выбрать тему по вкусу и скачать ее. Если вы хотите сами настроить цвета и изменить тему в Ableton Live до неузнаваемости, то нужно будет нажать кнопку «CUSTOMISE THEME»

Далее нам откроется окно с изображением Ableton Live и той темой на базе которой мы будем выстраивать свою.

Далее нажимаем на элемент цвет которого хотим изменить и в левой верхней части конструктора подсвечивается строка отвечающая за цвет этого элемента.

Меняем цвет элемента специально панелью-палитрой. Меняем на свой вкус оттенок, насыщенность, яркость, прозрачность.

Далее нажимаем Сохранить и заполняем поле название и нажимаем Сохранить еще раз.

После этого можно загрузить нашу тему. Просто нажмите Скачать и она загрузится на ваш компьютер.

Для того чтобы Ableton Live увидел нашу новую тему, ее необходимо поместить в папку «Themes», которая по умолчанию находится по этому пути:

C:ProgramDataAbletonLive 10 SuiteResourcesThemes

Если у вас не отображается папка ProgramData, нажмите отобразить скрытые файлы и папки.

It would be very nice to be able to edit themes without having to use a plain text editor.
Or at least have a list of what each button value name is.

Yeah, it’s not really attractive when someone posts a tool people would really like to use, with no information or introduction or details of any kind and no previous posts on the forums. Always seems a bit suss.

Might wait and see what the consensus is but personally the new Dark theme has everything I want.

Nah, not interested in spending my time plugging away at themes, Dark theme in L10 is everything I want.

Still very strange to come and post a direct binary download without even linking to the KVR forum, or using the same name or posting any info about it at all. I have no idea who LawrenceF is anyway, just because he has some posts on a forum doesn’t mean the code is safe. There is no Git for me to confirm or anything so will leave it to some other lucky punter to try.

Sorry guys. I didn’t feel the need to explain what it does as the guy who opened the thread kinda explained why it exists with his comment.

Secondly, me saying «Hi, I’m Joe Blow. I want to share this.», doesn’t mean that an *.exe is safe. Even saying that I could still have bad intentions if I were a scoundrel so I’d assume anyone concerned might check anything like that with AV (false positives may come from the obfuscation though, I should not have obfuscated it since I posted the source anyway, habit). There’s nothing in it that does anything but read and write *.ask files. If anyone wants the source code, just ask (no pun intended).

The read and write source code is on GitHub, I’ve not updated it there yet. Make your own if you’re concerned about the exe. https://github.com/ExpressMix/ableton_1 . ce_code.vb

At any rate, I have no ego about this kinda thing so I didn’t post it saying . «Hey guys, here’s something great from me because I’m great!» or some other such nonsense looking for praise from a community that I don’t even belong to. I made a mac and windows version when the beta was out. It is open source so you can check the code for yourself. or hell pull request in bug fixes or features

How To Install Themes In Ableton Live

Hi, I’m Ben from Live Aspects and in this guide, I’ll be showing you how to install and change your Ableton theme as well as showcasing our top 10 favourite themes.

Without further ado, let’s dive in!

| How To Install Ableton Themes

For the below tutorials, we will be using the top downloaded theme from Livethemes.co entitled ‘Spotify UI‘.

Step 1: Copy Theme

Start by opening Finder and copying your new theme. Do this by selecting the .ask file and pressing [COMMAND + C].

Step 2: Open Package Contents

Next, access the Applications folder. Locate the Ableton application, right-click it and select ‘Show Package Contents’.

Step 3: Paste Theme

Finally, head to Content > App Resources > Themes and paste the theme by pressing [COMMAND + OPTION + V] .

Windows

Step 1: Copy Theme

Start by opening File Explorer and copying your new theme. Do this by selecting the .ask file and pressing [CNTRL + X].

Step 2: Open Application Contents

Next, head to C:ProgramDataAbletonLive 10 SuiteResourcesThemes.

Step 3: Paste Theme

Finally, paste the theme by pressing [CNTRL + V] .

Changing the theme in Ableton is simple:

Step 1: Start by opening Live’s preferences in the top menu bar.

Step 2: Select the ‘Look Feel’ tab at the top left of the preferences window.

There are a variety of other theme collections online so don’t limit your search to just Livetheme.co. Get yourself a theme that helps inspire your creativity.

If you’re wondering how to make your own or just want to tweak the colours we came up with… You can! It’s even easier now than ever to create a theme for Ableton Live 10 and the site abletonthemes.com was created to do just that.

abletonthemes.com – Charts/Most Downloaded

Their site lets you create your own skin/theme from scratch or remix a one you like. Your creation can be made public and voted on. I’ve tried other methods but this is by far the easiest.

Click on any part of the user interface to change it’s colours, once you’re happy you can download the .ask skin/theme file to pick it in Live 10. Instructions to follow are below.

Windows: Place ‘LT_Revive_v1.ask’ into C:ProgramDataAbletonLive 10.x SuiteResourcesThemes

MacOS: Right click on Ableton app icon > show package contents> app resources> themes then place ‘LT_Revive_v1.ask’ inside.
