Would you be so kind to help me solve this issue ?

Are you getting the httpd configuration error: No MPM loaded in your server? We’ll help you.

The most common reason for this error is missing MPM, which binds network ports to the server and processes web requests.

At Bobcares, we often get requests to fix Apache related errors as a part of our Server Management Services.

Today, let’s analyze the cause and see how our Support Team fixes the httpd error.

Why does the server show httpd configuration error?

Bad configurations in webservers always end up in errors. One such error is httpd configuration error: No MPM loaded.

Here the web server goes down and all websites fail to load. This badly affects the business and customers often approach us for a quick resolution.

In most of the cases, the error occurs after an EasyApache4 update. The error occurs due to missing MPM.

Multi-Processing Modules or MPMs in Apache binds the network ports to the machine, accepts and handles requests. For better scalability, stability, and compatibility, Apache makes use of MPMs like worker, event, prefork, etc. The choice of the MPM depends largely on the type of apps and websites running on the server too.

However, when these modules are not available in the server, it ends up in the httpd error.

How we fix httpd configuration error: No MPM loaded?

Recently one of our customers approached us with an httpd error. The error message appeared as,

AH00534: httpd: Configuration error: No MPM loaded

In this case, httpd service was down after an EasyApache4 update. He tried to restart the service several times, without any luck.

Let’s see how our Support Engineers fixed this error.

We tried to restart the service, but the same error showed up. Then we checked the logs. There we found that it occurred due to the missing shared object “.so” files or broken modules.

In this case, the error was due to missing libmodsecurity.so file. This file was the compiled library file for the ModSecurity module. Therefore, it was not loading properly.

Here the problem was with the package repository. So, we created a folder with the name repo under /tmp. Then we took the backup of the existing repo list to the newly created folder and then deleted the originals.

mkdir /tmp/repo
mv /etc/yum.repos.d/*.repo /tmp/repo
rm /etc/yum.repos.d/*.repo

Secondly, we cleaned the repo and updated it again.

yum clean all
yum update y

This fixed the problem and Apache restarted successfully.

httpd configuration error no mpm loaded

[Having trouble in fixing webserver errors? – We’ll fix it for you.]

Conclusion

In short, the httpd configuration error: No MPM loaded occurs due to missing modules or corrupted configuration. Today, we saw how our Support Engineers fixed the error in a CentOS 7 server.

Running Apache2 on Ubuntu Precise64 in Vagrant. When I try to start it, it says:

vagrant@precise64:/etc/apache2$ /etc/init.d/apache2 start
 * Starting web server apache2
 *
 * The apache2 configtest failed.
Output of config test was:
AH00534: apache2: Configuration error: No MPM loaded.
Action 'configtest' failed.
The Apache error log may have more information.

But the thing is, my /etc/apache2/apache2.conf file doesn’t call for MPM anywhere! I would paste it here but it would make for a huge post…

I tried looking up the error log, but I can’t find that anywhere, either. Help?

Edit: apache2 -l gives this:

vagrant@precise64:/$ apache2 -l
Compiled in modules:
  core.c
  mod_so.c
  mod_watchdog.c
  http_core.c
  mod_log_config.c
  mod_logio.c
  mod_version.c
  mod_unixd.c
  mod_unixd.c

So it looks like no mpm is installed, right? If no MPM installed and no MPM mentioned in my config file, why am I still seeing this error?

AH00534: httpd: Configuration error: No MPM loaded. [SOLVED]

This post has been made before, didn’t find any of the solutions to fix the problem.
running the following script in apache

it’s frequent enough an issue that it’s listed in troubleshooting within the apache http server page
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Apache_HTTP_Server

using command prompt httpd -d /usr/www/…

httpd -d /usr/www/APACHE3/site.toddle

within a script called go

cat > /usr/local/bin/go
test -d logs || mkdir logs
httpd -f `pwd`/conf/httpd.conf -d `pwd`

which is equivalent to httpd -d
the end result is AH00534: httpd: Configuration error: No MPM loaded

here’s /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf
the module in question: LoadModule mpm_prefork_module modules/mod_mpm_prefork.so

to trying different possible combinations of other mpm modules

Re: AH00534: httpd: Configuration error: No MPM loaded. [SOLVED]

Please edit your post and wrap file contents and shell I/O in «code» tags, it’s entirely unclear what is what in the above.
Also ensure to elaborate on the precondition ie. what you sought to alter from the stock config and why.

Re: AH00534: httpd: Configuration error: No MPM loaded. [SOLVED]

Is that your complete httpd.conf???

AH00558 is because there’s no config entry for ServerName, where did you get this

httpd -f 'pwd'/conf/httpd.conf -d 'pwd'

?
It’s nonsense, «pwd» would only make sense in backticks (not single quotes) and require you to have a config structure in the current working directory («echo $PWD; pwd») — do you get  AH00534 if you do not invoke httpd this way? (There’s no indication in the service status)

Re: AH00534: httpd: Configuration error: No MPM loaded. [SOLVED]

going to be away from keyboard for a second
will upload rest of /conf/httpd.conf
for some reason the reply section is giving me difficulties with copy and paste
fixed pwd however that was pre written

Re: AH00534: httpd: Configuration error: No MPM loaded. [SOLVED]

the issue is when running either command within the correct directory
the mpm module isnt able to be loaded.
this is confusing as it’s clearly uncommented within

/etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf

error output

AH00534:httpd:Configuration error: No MPM loaded

httpd and httpd script

httpd -d /usr/www/APACHE3/site.toddle
cat > /usr/local/bin/go
test -d logs || mkdir logs
httpd -f `pwd`/conf/httpd$1.conf -d `pwd`

(edited the aforementioned script)
i’m a novice at this what particular information can I give you
besides the full /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf that might lead me in the right direction
still trying to get full httpd.conf up however it may be too large to upload in a single  block??
is there also something I can read about that, forum syntax?
found it

this is the amount I could get copy and pasting trial and error
is it possible the file has too many lines to put in a reply?
seems be above a certain amount of source code
submit and preview dont apply the text

# what they do. They're here only as hints or reminders. If you are unsure
# consult the online docs. You have been warned.
#
# Configuration and logfile names: If the filenames you specify for many
# of the server's control files begin with "/" (or "drive:/" for Win32), the
# server will use that explicit path. If the filenames do *not* begin
# with "/", the value of ServerRoot is prepended -- so "logs/access_log"
# with ServerRoot set to "/usr/local/apache2" will be interpreted by the
# server as "/usr/local/apache2/logs/access_log", whereas "/logs/access_log"
# will be interpreted as '/logs/access_log'.

#
# ServerRoot: The top of the directory tree under which the server's
# configuration, error, and log files are kept.
#
# Do not add a slash at the end of the directory path. If you point
# ServerRoot at a non-local disk, be sure to specify a local disk on the
# Mutex directive, if file-based mutexes are used. If you wish to share the
# same ServerRoot for multiple httpd daemons, you will need to change at
# least PidFile.
#
ServerRoot "/etc/httpd"

#
# Mutex: Allows you to set the mutex mechanism and mutex file directory
# for individual mutexes, or change the global defaults
#
# Uncomment and change the directory if mutexes are file-based and the default
# mutex file directory is not on a local disk or is not appropriate for some
# other reason.
#
# Mutex default:/run/httpd

#
# Listen: Allows you to bind Apache to specific IP addresses and/or
# ports, instead of the default. See also the <VirtualHost>
# directive.
#
# Change this to Listen on specific IP addresses as shown below to
# prevent Apache from glomming onto all bound IP addresses.
#
#Listen 12.34.56.78:80
Listen 80

Re: AH00534: httpd: Configuration error: No MPM loaded. [SOLVED]

had the /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf within the wrong place to successfully run
either httpd -d or provided «go» script
this file structure is a little all over the place since it’s just on a raspberry

mkdir /usr/www/APACHE3/conf/
cp /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf /usr/www/APACHE3/conf/

run script::named::go

test -d logs || mkdir logs
httpd -f `pwd`/conf/httpd.conf -d `pwd`

output

httpd (pid 1139) already running :)

Even if I add this line to my clamp.json file it still complains about an MPM module not being loaded:

"mpm_prefork_module": "$(brew --prefix httpd)/lib/httpd/modules/mod_mpm_prefork.so",

As you can see, I’ve installed apache with homebrew because I need PHP 7 but I don’t want to upgrade my Mac yet.

root@tasnim:/home/tara# service apache2 restart
 * Restarting web server apache2 [fail]
 * The apache2 configtest failed.

Output of config test was:

AH00534: apache2: Configuration error: No MPM loaded.
Action 'configtest' failed.

Using

sudo a2enmod mpm_prefork
service apache2 restart

I got:

root@tasnim:/home/tara# service apache2 restart
 * Restarting web server apache2 [fail]
 * The apache2 configtest failed.

Output of config test was:

AH00526: Syntax error on line 156 of /etc/apache2/apache2.conf:
Invalid command 'Require', perhaps misspelled or defined by a module not included in the server configuration
Action 'configtest' failed.
The Apache error log may have more information.

Then i open the /etc/apache2/apache2.conf file and got that:

//access here, or in any related virtual host.
<Directory />
    Options FollowSymLinks
    AllowOverride None
Require all denied //this is line 156
</Directory>

Using

 apt-cache policy apache2

i got:

root@tasnim:/home/tara# apt-cache policy apache2
apache2:
Installed: 2.4.7-1ubuntu4.4
Candidate: 2.4.7-1ubuntu4.4
Version table:

    500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ trusty/main amd64 Packages

Using

 a2query -v

i got:

root@tasnim:/home/tara# a2query -v
