You may first check whether the windows installer service is enabled and windows installer engine is functioning well.

Start>type services.msc in the search box and enter>in the services list, right click Windows Installer and then click Properties>select the Manual option in the start type drop-down list>click Start button behind the service status.

Start>type cmd in the search box>right click the cmd and Run as administrator>type MSIExec. If the MSI engine works fine, you won’t see any error.

Sometimes this problem occurs because of certain third-party programs and background programs that are running on the computer. So try installing it in clean boot.

How to perform a clean boot in Windows

If it is not the case, it may be the issue of missing or corrupted Microsoft .NET framework.

Start> Control Panel>Programs and features>Uninstall the Microsoft .NET Framework>restart the computer and then reinstall Microsoft .NET Framework from the following link>Restart the computer and reinstall VC++ 2005/2008.

This error is known to be occur in two scenarios:

• Insufficient disk space on the machine to allow for a complete installation.
• Spyware or third party software that is installed on the machine.

Resolving The Problem

Validate your installation system has enough free disk space to install the IBM Rational product. Look up the minimum hardware requirements for you product in the IBM Rational Release notes for your product version on the IBM Publication Center.

If you know you have enough free disk space on your system please review the following Microsoft® solution. IBM Rational products use the MSI installer and will receive the same error codes as Microsoft products. I have a Windows 2003 Server SP1. I have SQL 2000 Server SP4 running on it. I am trying to instal SQL XML 3 SP3 on this server. But the installation aborts midway giving an error.I got the following in the event log.

Product: SQLXML 3.0 SP3 — Error 1935. An error occured during the installation of assembly component <303994ba-6487-47ae-af1d-7af6088eebdb>. HRESULT: 0x80070002. assembly interface: IAssemblyCacheItem, function: Commit, assembly name: Microsoft.MSXML2,publicKeyToken=»6bd6b9abf345378f»,version=»4.20.9818.0″,type=»win32″,processorArchitecture=»x86″

This may be due to another process locking MSXML4.dll. You may need to shutdown any applications that may be using MSXML4.dll and then retry the install.

If you are unsure which of your processes may be using MSXML4.dll, you can use a tool like ListDlls from SysInternals to determine which process is holding onto it.

Give this a try, and see if it works out.

Another issue that can cause this is if you are using Ad-Watch SE Professional and have it active. Simply turn it off and then the SQLXML will install completely.

SpySweeper Enterprise Edition also causes the same issue.

Kill SpySweeper.exe and SpySweeperTray.exe from Task Manager, and the install will be successful.

Please read the posting more carefully. The problem is the inability to deploy the MSXML4 assembly files to the WinSXS folder.

I have encountered this problem frequently in just the past two weeks wherever I am installing a software package that includes the Microsoft MSXML4sxs32.msm Merge Module. The packages have been using this merge module for two years, but just began showing this problem within the last two weeks.

«When you attempt to install MSXML and get the error; 

«An error occured during the installation of assembly component {303994BA-6487-47AE-AF1D-7AF6088EEBDB}. HRESULT: -2147024894.» 

Do not click OK! Leave the Installation active. 

Run another instance of the MSXML Installer. It will ask if you want to remove or repair, click repair. 

Then another error will occur, stating that «Another installation is in progress.» 

Do not click anything. Press CTRL+ALT+DEL. Go to the Applications Tab. 

Now,  Remember there are two Installations running so two identical programs will apear in the Applications list. You need to look for the one Second down the list, as the most recent apps appear at the top of the list and we want to kill the first one. 

We you find the Second installation down the list, right click on it and select End Task 

Now press Try Again on the existing installation. It will complete successfully. Press close and enjoy your game! 

(If you still get an error when you run your game, stating that MSXML is not installed, just run the installation one more time. It will successfully install first time every time from now on.) «
