The OS is Windows Server 2008 R2
I can’t install any programs (like backup agents) that require these components:
Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package (x64) or the
Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x64)
I’ve tried unregistering the Windows Installer and reregistering it, starting from a clean boot scenario,
This is the error message:
Product: Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable (x64) — Error 1935.An error occurred during the installation of assembly ‘Microsoft.VC80.ATL,type=»win32″,version=»8.0.50727.762″,publicKeyToken=»1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b»,processorArchitecture=»amd64″‘. Please
refer to Help and Support for more information. HRESULT: 0x80070BC9. assembly interface: IAssemblyCacheItem, function: Commit, component: {837BF1EB-D770-94EB-A01F-C8B3B9A1E18E}Seems like there are thousands of entries when you google this error but not too many solutions.
The only microsoft support KB entry that deals with this error only is for Windows 7, so the Fix It tool can’t be run:

Martin, you are no longer getting an Redistributable install error message, which means that most of the suggestions in these postings won’t work for you. From the messages you are getting, I’m guessing SQL won’t install because it still has leftover components
from the last time you installed it. See this posting for Tao-Min Tan’s fix for that:http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en/sqlsetupandupgrade/thread/62f0cd6b-bf78-46e0-b513-1556c0866241
On the 1935 error I’ve been receiving:
I would not recommend using the .NET framework removal tool on Windows 2008 R2, although that is not a step I tried. Depending on what kind of server it is, you might have components that won’t work correctly after the removal and reinstall. (SharePoint
and SQL are two that come to mind). If you are getting this 1935 error, and the simple fixes mentioned in earlier postings don’t work, I recommend reinstalling Windows from scratch on that server. I found out the hard way it isn’t worth troubleshooting. I hate to advocate a reinstall rather
than getting to the root of the problem, but if you want the C++ redistributable on there and you don’t want to mess up your programs or Windows, this seems to be the way to go. The error stems from missing files in the WinSXS folder—although who
knows how that happens—I have two identical servers and it happened on only one of them.Once Windows is installed with any updates available, install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package (x64) and the Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x64) right away. Then do whatever you have to
do to get your software/services running again.Microsoft walked me through finding what files were missing from the WinSXS folder and tried installing those files on the machine with the issue. That didn’t work (and consisted of a lot of finding GUIDS, and copying and pasting files..painful). Then they
said let’s try an inplace upgrade of windows (said it wouldn’t affect SharePoint or IIS) and it killed SharePoint—and Windows had poor performance. I rolled back any changes. So, I don’t have time to troubleshoot it anymore, I’m building a new server (and
I don’t want a server that’s had the in place upgrade run on it anyway, even if I could get IIS and SharePoint to work). This error has been around since 2001 from what I can see in the forums. And, I have no idea how items were missing in the WinSXS folder
as these are two identical servers, installed the same way and with the same software, and only one has the issue. Check out this blog from 2004: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2004/11/10/255346.aspx The steps are too old to help newer systems, but
it does explain the error well.-

Hello, I am asking this question because none of the answers I’ve read here have solved my problem.
I use an HP Pavilion 64 bit computer with a Windows 7 operating system. I recently purchased some video-editing software, which produced the following error message when I tried to install it: Error 1935 … microsoft.vc80.atl,type=»win32″,version=»8.50727.42″,publicKeyToken=»1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b»,processorArchitecture=»x86″
At the point when this happened, the installer was trying to access Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package, which isn’t installed on my computer. I tried to download and install the redistributable package. But when I did, I received
the following error message:
Error 1935.An error occurred during the installation of assembly ‘Microsoft.VC80.ATL,type=»win32″,version=»8.0.50727.42″,publicKeyToken=»1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b»,processorArchitecture=»x86″‘. Please refer to Help and Support for more information.
Looking at the log-files, I see HRESULT: 0x80070002.
I have attempted to resolve this problem by:
1) rebooting, repeatedly;
2) running chkdsk for system errors;
3) uninstalling software that may possibly be blocking the installation;
4) temporarily disabling antivirus and anti-spyware software, and attempting installation;
5) and more steps which I can barely remember by now.
I’ve had this problem for over a week now, and every attempted solution either has no effect or simply discloses a further problem. Can anyone help me understand what is causing this, and how I can solve it?
Kind regards,
Richard
Symptom:
While installing various Wasp software products on Windows 7 or Windows 8, during the installation of component Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable, this error message appears, and the component will not install:
Error 1935. An error occurred during the installation of assembly (followed by something similar to the following)
* ‘Microsoft.VC80.ATL,type=»win32″,version=»8.0.50727.42″,publicKeyToken=»1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b»,processor Architecture=»x86″.

Please refer to help and support for more information.
Cause:
The Microsoft component «Windows Modules Installer» service (TrustedInstaller.exe) is disabled. Note: This is not the only cause of this error.
Resolution:
Open Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services.
Find and double-click Windows Modules Installer.
Change the Startup type to Manual.
OK.
The component should now install without error.
Additional Information:
* If this procedure does not solve the problem, it will be necessary to do a web search for other potential solutions. The error is due to a conflict among the Windows OS and the Microsoft Visual C++ component, and possibly other Windows components.
* When trying to start the Windows Trusted Installer service, if it gives error «Windows could not start the Windows Modules Installer service on Local Computer. Error 126: The specified module could not be found.», follow the steps in Microsoft KB article:

A 1935 error is one of the most common problems that can prevent a user from being able to install any application that uses the Microsoft Windows Installer MSIAssembly and MSIAssemblyName tables to install assemblies. In general, this error means that Microsoft Windows Installer encountered an error while trying to install assemblies to the Global Assembly Cache (GAC) or the Win32 GAC (WinSxS). This error is considered fatal and causes setup to fail and initiate rollback.
The error can be caused by a variety of reasons:
- Another application deletes the file while our application tries to open this file.
- Some driver in the file system stack intercepts a CreateFile/ReadFile etc and translates the error code to “file not found” etc.
Solution
Solution 1: Clear the transaction log
If you receive a 1935 error, the Windows file system transaction log has become corrupted. The transaction log is used by the Windows file system to recover when a file error occurs. To correct this install error, you need to clear the log as follows:
- From the Start menu, type cmd and you will see Command Prompt listed as the main result. Right-click that result and choose Run as administrator.
- In the command prompt, type the following command and hit Enter:
fsutil resource setautoreset true C:
This assumes that C: is the drive in which Windows is installed. If it is installed on another drive like D:, please change the drive letter appropriately.
- Restart your computer.
- Install GTL or GBM again.
Solution 2: Disable antispyware and antivirus software or remove adware or spyware from your computer and then install GTL or GBM
- Disable the following applications or types of applications, following any instructions provided by such software:
- Disable Lavasoft Ad-Watch, Ad-Aware, or similar detection software before installation.
- Disable WebRoot Spy Sweeper.
- Install GBM or GTL again.
Solution 3: Remove adware and then install GBM or GTL
Error 1935 can be caused by a certain type of adware running on the system.
- Start the Task Manager. (Alt + Ctrl + Delete)
- Look for a process named wtoolsa.exe. If this process is running, then you will need to remove this adware.
- Install GBM or GTL again.
Solution 4: Perform an installation repair of Windows
Your system might have some corruption that has gone undetected.
- Re-install or repair your Windows.
- Install GTL or GBM again.
Applies to: All GBM and GTL versions.
I got this gem of an error tonight while installing SQL Server 2014 Express (just trying to get the management studio mind you but having to install the whole package):
Error installing SQL Server Setup Support Files
An error occurred during the installation of assembly 'Microsoft.VC80.ATL,version="8.0.50727.6229",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",processorArchitecture="x86",type="win32"'. Please refer to Help and Support for more information. HRESULT: 0x80070BC9.
Error code: 1935
This error can occur for multiple reasons. One has an easy fix, one has more detailed fix.
Solution 1:
The first (and easiest to fix) is if you have a pending Windows Update reboot (one that auto-installed but hasn’t rebooted yet). This is the easy fix, reboot and let Windows Update finish updating. After the reboot you should be able to continue your install. I assume something in the Windows Update conflicted with the SQL Server install.
Solution 2:
This can also apparantly occur if the Microsoft.VC80.ATL file becomes corrupted. If this is the case you’ll have to repair the installation
Follow the steps in this blog over at MSDN:
For posterity, here are the steps.
- Go to Start, Run and type in INSTALLER ad press Enter (this should pull up the installer folder).
- Arrange the window in Details view.
- Right click the header and click add columns.
- Check the checkbox for Comments column.
- In the comments column, look for Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 redistributable RTL.
- Right click the msi and click Repair the VC++ 2005 redistributable.
- The repair process will look for vcredist.msi in the temp folder and most probably it will not find it there and prompt to provide location for the same file.
- Downloaded the VC++ 2005 redistributable from: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=32bc1bee-a3f9-4c13-9c99-220b62a191ee&displaylang=en
- We need to extracted the exe using the following commands at command prompt:
C:vcredist_x86.exe /C
C:"VCREDI~1.EXE" /C
- After running the above steps, we get the vcredist.msi extracted.
- Provide the location for vcredist.msi for prompt in Step7.
- Once the repair is complete, start the SQL Setup and this should help installing SQL Server successfully
Symptoms: If you receive a 1935 error (shown as below) when you try to install the software.
Cause: It’s probably caused by the third party software included the Appeon Developer.
Solutions: Kindly please try the following steps to change the registry to resolve it.
a. Type regedit in the start search box.
b. In the Registry Editor window, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SYSTEM > CurrentControlSet > Control.
c. In the Registry Editor, dialog box, double-click RegistrySizeLimit. This opens the Edit DWORD Value dialog box.
d. In the Edit DWORD Value dialog box, enter ffffffff as the Hexadecimal value. Click the ‘Decimal‘ radio button, and enter 4294967295 as the Decimal value. Click OK.
e. Reboot the machine.
f. Log in as an Administrator and open a Command Prompt and type SFC /SCANNOW. This may take a while.
After the process is completed, re-install the software.
Important: Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. So you can restore the registry if a problem occurs.
Problem
How do you resolve the Windows install error 1935?
Resolving The Problem
The Windows install error 1935 can prevent you from being able to install WebSphere MQ.
In general, this error means that Windows Installer encountered an error while trying to install assemblies to the Global Assembly Cache (GAC). This error is considered fatal and causes setup to fail.
When running the setup in interactive mode, you may see a message box indicating that a 1935 error occurred, and it will list the HRESULT value and the Windows Installer component of the assembly that caused the error.
Where to find the log files
In order to diagnose the cause of a 1935 error, locate the Windows Installer log. The log files will provide useful information and can be found in the following location:
C:Documents and Settings<userid>Local SettingsTemp
or
C:Users<userid>AppDataLocalTemp
The file name will begin with MQv7x_Install.
Where to find error information in the log file
To pinpoint the cause of a 1935 error, search for the string return value 3 as in the example below. This will show the exact point in which setup failed. The following is an example of the information written to a Windows Installer verbose log file in the case of a 1935 error:
MSI (s) (18:DC) Ý08:54:08:801¨: Product: IBM Websphere MQ 32bitSupport
— Error 1935.An error occurred during the installation of assembly
component {97F81AF1-0E47-DC99-A01F-C8B3B9A1E18E}. HRESULT: 0x800736FD.
assembly interface: IAssemblyCacheItem, function: Commit, assembly name:
Microsoft.VC80.ATL,type=»win32″,version=»8.0.50727.762″,publicKeyToken=»
1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b»,processorArchitecture=»x86″
Action ended 8:54:08: InstallFinalize. Return value 3.
In this example, the assembly failed to install properly due to an error with HRESULT value 0x800736FD
This behavior can occur for various reasons such as incorrect registry entries, libraries being reloaded by the installer after a recent install or removal attempt of the assembly, or other issues. In the above example, the HRESULT seen is 0x800736FD, meaning:
«An HRESULT could not be translated to a corresponding Win32 error code»
This is due to Windows Installer behavior on Windows NT platforms but does not tell us why the installation failed.
You can attempt either of the following methods to resolve this problem:
- Restart your computer.
-or-
- Stop, then restart the Windows Installer (msiservice) and try the installation again.
To stop Windows Installer, follow these steps:
1. Open Control Panel.
2. Double-click Administrative Tools.
3. Double-click Services.
4. Right-click the Windows Installer service.
5. Click Stop.
6. Click Start.
If you are still unable to resolve the 1935 error after either of the above two methods, gather the following documents and contact IBM Support for further assistance:
1. Microsoft Support Diagnostic Tool (
