«An error occurred while starting playback» .

After spending a morning adding subtitles in the Timeline, I suddenly keep getting this message when trying to play the timeline. Clicking Details reveals «The playback device Microsoft Sound Mapper does not exist.»

Well, firstly, I have an external USB Quattro Sound Card selected as my device in XP, and anyway, I cannot find anywhere in DVDA where one selects an audio device, so how can I tell it to stop looking for Microsoft Sound Mapper?

I’ve rebooted but the problem currently persists — I sometimes get similar hassles from Vegas but this always goes after closing and reopening.

Any ideas what’s going on??

Going purely by memory, I *think* I used to set Vegas to the Mapper as default just for this sort of thing, switching ASIO on in Vegas as needed, then turning it back off — I believe DVDA uses some of the Vegas registry settings, and that was one of them?

Sorry I can’t give any more info than a cloudy memory that may be very inaccurate after all. I had the problems years ago, adopted the procedure of just switching to the mapper before existing Vegas, and have done that since through upgrades of software, drivers, and hardware. I just booted from Vista back into XP, and can’t duplicate ANY problems now. Though I am using the same Sound Card (an old Audigy 2 I bought for Vegas when it 1st handled 5.1), I’m also using new drivers, latest DX 10, and HD/HDMI audio, so somewhere in there it’s apparently no longer a problem.

The only other guess that occurs to me at the moment is to un-check always use default devices in Control Panel -> Sounds. -> Audio.

Thanks for the response MPM. I always have Vegas, and in fact every setting I can find set to the USB Quattro, but I’ll try switching to mapper for trial purposes — I haven’t even got speakers attached to my PCI sound card — I’ll have to find some . I always use the Quattro and a Behringer Mixer, but there are often times when Vegas or DVDA loses contact temporarily — it also seems related to memory sometimes.

I already have «use default devices» unchecked, so it’s not that. It’s frustrating not being able to work for more than a few minutes before playback stops, but if it will work with Mapper, that’ll do me until I start mixing the audio seriously.

edit — yes, that works — Thanks — plugged some speakers into the souind card, changed sound device to «Sigma Tel Audio» (not PCI — it’s on the motherboard!) and the DVDA Timeline has played back reliably during subtitle creation — only 100 minutes (of audio track) to go!!

Error after render — «An error occurred while starting playback»

Every single freakin time I render a video I then have to exit the program and reopen it or it won’t let me play the timeline. If i try it says «»An error occurred while starting playback» !»

THis has led to TONS of lost time because i do a lot of smaller videos so I have to keep closing and reopening with each file i edit. It’s been going on for 3 builds and I cant think of anything that has changed in the system.

using windows 10 and most recent vegas build.

Did it not helped you to change the audio device in Options/Preferences into another one that’s available?

Nope. If I change it it lets me play again until the next render, then it repeats and i have to change it to a different one again. Very frustrated.

Had same problem for years with version 14. Recently upgraded to version 16, hoping it might solve it. It didn’t. But the advice to change the audio driver seems to have done the trick — I’m rid of the error. Hurray! Fantastic!

Thanks to those who knew :-). Btw shouldn’t the software developers have just come out and explained this long time ago? The amount of time I’ve spent closing and reopening projects on this account is substantial.

«Playback NOT ENABLED for this device»

Vegas Pro 16. I rendered a SonyMXF-NTSC-DV.mxf short video. Played it back in VLC, Windows Media and MPC-MC. Each time I render then play back, then close the player, Vegas Pro 16 will NOT play the timeline. When I try to start VP16 timeline playback, the Vegas Pro 16.0 ERROR pops up: «An error occurred while starting playback. The request is not enabled for this device».

That NEVER happened in Vegas Pro 15. The is a REAL BAD bug! PLEASE FIX it SOON!
(well, if it’s not a bug. why does it NOT happen in VP15, and happens each time in VP16. )

Running high end PC, I-7, 32GB RAM, Windows 10.

I think this is a minor bug.
With me it happens most with the use of nested Vegs or copy/paste timeline events from VMS 15.
Saving and reopening the project solves it.

Trying the same on my laptop will not give this error message, so I assume it only happens on my desktop.

The bummer is this happens every single time .so closing down and reopening the project every small file I render (and check) is a huge time consuming hasstle.

This has been happening to me in Vegas 15 Movie Studio,. It can be with a very basic clip only a few seconds long — nothing nested, a single video track. It will preview fine but once I render even one second of it the error comes up when I hit preview. Makes Vegas almost unusable. I can’t spend the time to close and reopen the project every time I check something.

Thanks for the suggestions and I can see some of that as a workaround, but I don’t see that as a long-term solution. When I build a sequence I render it so I can check performance outside of Vegas. Then I make adjustments and preview quickly to see if they’re right.

Prerendering or rendering to a new track is not a practical approach for this. It’s a job, so efficient workflow is important — rendering to a new track (for example), and exporting (which will break preview) or previewing that track (which won’t take it out of Vegas, which I need to do), and then muting or deleting that track to get back to the «real» project is just a bit kludgey. Granted, it’s always possible I’m making this more difficult than it needs to be.

Something’s broken — either due to an update or something I did inadvertently. Reading back, this seems to happen in a lot of versions, so I am surprised there’s not a clear answer anywhere. The closest suggestion I’ve seen was related to audio codecs being in use for the render and then somehow not being available for preview. I’ve tried a number of different project profiles and audio settings, though, and I’m still getting the error. If there’s no fix for Vegas I’ll probably just have to do more of my stuff in Premiere.

You never mentioned rendering an image sequence. That is a SCRIPTED action, involving none of the volatile driver traps Marco and I suspected.

I suggest you remount your issue in the Scripting forum; it may be a bug, but no one in this life will know until you post full details of your workflow, media, and product, . Please?

Relaunching Vegas to flush the buffers before and after rendering is still stock procedure, and it «may» become part of a durable workaround for you. «Virtual» memory is not boundless.

This bug is not the minor bug as I said before. 😞 😞 😞
To me it happens more and more.
First time today when I was working on a new small ( few minutes) HD project.
In order to open the explorer I probably touched with my mouse the already made Veg in the explorer for that small project and Vegas began rendering the swap0 file ( less than 30 sec).
After that I could not play the imported HD file with this error message.
Very irritating after les than a minute I began that project. 👎

You are both now telling us you have similar issues when rendering an Image Sequence, although we did not necessarily understand that before.

Scripting forum is here, and there may be something in your build that is incompatible with the script. They will not know without you providing complete details first, however.

My original post said clearly this is with video on the time line (not images).

This bug happens with video on the time line. It is extremely inconvenient (and unproductive) to close down a whole project and reopen it again, everytime you want to check a rendered piece from it. This does *not* happen in Vegas 15. It only happens in Vegas 16 (and also in the most recent 9/3/18 update even with the Vegas Sample project).

I would appreciate helpful input to that, or better yet, a Fix (update) of it from Sony development.

Vegas Pro is one of the most renowned video editing software out there. It was first developed by Sony and now is owned by MAGIX company. The suite comes up with a large set of features that are needed for modern era editing. Also, more and more features are slowly being introduced in the newer versions of the software. Unfortunately, there are some errors with the application that will keep you at bay and prevent you from utilizing it. One of them is the error code -59 which states “An error occurred starting VEGAS Pro. There is no license to use this software.”.

This error message can pop up due to several reasons which include your internet connection, hardware change or sometimes an incomplete installation. Nonetheless, the solutions for it are quite easy and you will find them down below. However, before that, let us talk about the causes of the error message in more detail.

What causes the ‘An Error Occurred Starting Vegas Pro’ Error Message?

The error message usually appears when you launch the software. It can be due to the following factors —

• Internet Connection: The error message can pop up if you are disconnected or your ethernet cable is unplugged. If you are using a trial version of the software or not, you must be connected before launching Vegas Pro.
• Hardware Change: Sometimes, the error message can be triggered by a recent hardware change or a BIOS reset/update. In such a case, you will have to deactivate the software to your computer and then activate it again using your serial key.
• Incomplete Installation: Another cause of the error message can be an incomplete installation. The software might not be able to access all the components it is supposed to. Thus, throwing the said error message.

Now to solve the issue, you will have to implement the solutions given down below one by one. One of them will surely fix your issue. Let’s begin.

Solution 1: Check your Internet Connection

Before you decide to uninstall the software and install it all over again, make sure you are connected to the internet. Trial versions or not, an internet connection is needed to launch the application. If your computer is connected to the internet, jump to the next solution. If not, double-check your ethernet cable. You can also give the adapter options a look to see if it is disabled from there.

Once resolved, try launching Vegas Pro again.

Solution 2: Activate Vegas Pro Again

In some scenarios, you will have to deactivate the software and then activate it again using your serial key. This usually happens if you have had a recent hardware change or if an update or a reset to the BIOS has been put forth. Follow the given steps to resolve the issue:

1. First of all, login to your MAGIX account using a web browser.
2. Go to My Products, find the version of Vegas Pro you are using and then click Show more details.
3. Scroll down to the activations and deactivate it for the computer that you are facing the issue on.
4. Afterward, uninstall the software from your system.
5. Download it again from the Activations tab in your browser.
6. Install the software once downloaded, insert your activation key again.
7. See if the issue persists.

Solution 3: Reinstall Vegas Pro

If you are using a trial version of the software and facing this issue, it can be due to an incomplete installation. In such a case, you will have to fully uninstall Vegas Pro from your system and then try installing it again. Furthermore, if you are using the Steam version of the software and facing this issue, you can follow the given steps to resolve the issue.

1. Press Windows Key + R to open up the Run dialog box.
2. Type in regedit and hit Enter.
3. Make your way to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Wow6432Node > Sony Creative Software.
4. Delete all the Vegas Pro entries.
5. Afterward, open up the File Explorer and navigate to C:Program Files(x86)SteamSteamApps/common (if you have installed it in a different Steam library folder, make your way there).
6. Delete the Vegas Pro folder from there.
7. Download the software again and install it.

Note: If it doesn’t let you delete the entries, you might have to uninstall the software using Steam first and then follow the steps. If you uninstall it first, the Vegas Pro folder in the common directory may not be there, but double-checking does no wrong, does it?
