An internal error occurred editing functionality may be limited

I just created one new cordova ios project via CLI, and i opened that project in Xcode 7.1 and while running on simulator am getting some error on mainViewController.xib, if we clicked on that erro...

This has been happening to me on Swift 3.1, Xcode 8.3.2 for a month, I was coding okay, But it came to a point that all the text was only plain text, no colours, no auto complete, no indent. What a torture…..

Xcode was showing an error for NSAttributedString, but it was compiling fine, I could even see the underlined button in the app no problem. When I removed this code xcode went back to normal. How strange.

Took me days to figure out. I checked out every single commit from github until I found a version of my project that doesnt throw An internal error occurred. Source editor functionality is limited. error.

Then I compared the commit versions and I figured this started to happen when I edited UIButton text thru the code.

Error caused because of NSAttributedString I wanted to underline to the button text as following

    let titleAttributes:[String : Any] = [NSForegroundColorAttributeName : Constants.forgotPassColor, NSUnderlineStyleAttributeName : NSUnderlineStyle.styleSingle.rawValue]
let localizedForgotPass = NSLocalizedString("forgotPassword", tableName: "Localizable", comment: "forgot button text")
let titleString = NSAttributedString(string: localizedForgotPass, attributes: titleAttributes)
    forgetPasswordButton.setAttributedTitle(titleString, for: .normal)

Removing this solved the problem. There is something wrong with NSAttributedString in Swift 3.1

Since upgrading to XCode12.4 on two different MacBooks both running MacOS 10.15.6 I have issues opening Storyboard / Xib files.

Just to be clear this doesn’t occur for a specific project — this happens for *any* project I open and for *any* storyboard / xib file within that project.

There is a long delay before the file opens and when it does I see.

internal error occurred

Downloaded iOS 5 for my iPhone 3GS, but during the installation got the error message — The phone Larry’s iPhone could not be restored. An internal error occurred. Installed iTunes 10.5 before the download.

Two attempts at installation failed with the same error. All is normal on the iPhone 3GS, but still shows the iOS 4.

Have seen similar threads in the iPad 2 discussions.

Any thoughts? Any hope?

Issue resolved on the 5th attempt. iOS 5 installed and fully functional.

The installation was failing just after the «verifying iPhone restore with Apple». I am going to assume that whatever server Apple was using for the «verifying» was overwhelmed, but finally was able to connect.

I am seeing the same issue. My only thought is to complete the OS X update to 10.7.2 and try again. Mine still has 6 hrs to go.

Same problem here.

I believe you must have 10.7.2 installed first.

I installed OS X 10.7.2 prior to the iOS 5 download. I’ll do the usual permissions repair and have a look for a 10.7.2 combo updater.

I have the same problem. I’ve updated iTunes to 10.5 and OS X to 10.7.2, plugged the phone directly in to my MBP and still no luck.

I just bought a MBP because I kept hearing how easy it was to use and how integrated all the Apple products are. So far I’m not that impressed with the simplicity or integration. Hardware is build very robust, but other than that. not too happy so far 😠

Supposed to be getting 2 4Ss on Friday. atleast THEY will have iOS5 preinstalled 😎

i had same problem so i signed into my itunes account first and then it went straight through

After seeing the «internal error» message four times, I tried one more time and this time iTunes 10.5 completely restored my iPhone running iOS 4.3.5. It’s as if I’ve completely confused my computer. By the way, I upgraded to 10.7.5 prior to attempting to upgrade to iOS 5. Apparently there’s some serious server issues here. I’ll wait until iTunes completely restores my phone and then wait a couple of days to upgrade. Disappointing.

I was finally able to get my phone connected and updated. Now the battle begins with my girlfriend’s phone. I know my OS/firewall/iTunes settings are correct because I was able to get mine done. Now I’m experiencing the same problems with hers. I think it’s on Apple’s end 😠

Here’s the message I’m getting now. The iPhone «iPhone» cannot be restored at this time because the iPhone software update server could not be contacted or is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later.

iphone cannot be synced. An internal device error occurred

I’ve had this problem before and was fixed, but not sure when and how. This window appeared this morning as I always connect my phone to my iMac. I manually tried to sync but this window appeared again. The iPhone «x» cannot be synced. An internal device error occurred.

iPhone 5s, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5), downloaded iOS 7.0.2

I had this problem this morning, too. I checked out the discussions and they recommended changing the USB port, but that didn’t work. I tried rebooting the phone but that didn’t work. I rebooted the computer (I had to force quit iTunes because it was hung up) and everything synced just fine.

Thank You! It worked.

Likewise. of cousre the trusty restart. thanks.

Just wanted to add to the conversation what worked for me. I was too lazy to do a reboot unless necessary, but since Marryin’ Man mentioned he had to force quit iTunes to reboot I thought that might be the problem. So I tried just restarting iTunes. Sure enough, I had to force quit to get it to close completely. I started it right back up, and now I can sync. Yay!! Now if only I could remember this next time it happens, because I know this is not the first time I’ve googled this issue!

The iPhone «iPhone» could not be restored. An internal error has occured.

FIXED: Internal error / trouble updating

I know there are a lot of threads already about the error, so I’m sorry about starting ANOTHER one. However, since there are so many threads I don’t want my fix to get lost in the clutter.

Description of MY problem: (or skip straight to the solution shown below)

Things were going great at first — I got in right at 1:05, downloaded at a reasonable speed, watched as my setup ran through a backup / update routine. Everything seemed to be going fine until I saw that my phone was up and running and had some little intro to run through. I followed the on screen instructions for accepting the new TOS and setting up my iCloud (Apple ID) account. Unlike all previous iPhone/iPod experiences I have had in the past, I noticed that my computer was still doing a restore, and yet I was still able to use my iPhone. I’m used to my iPhone being locked during sync/backup/restore operations, but I figured maybe they’d just learned how to get around this issue.

So, I end up on the home screen for my phone, some of my apps are there (and in their correct folders, more on that later), but not all. That’s ok, since my computer is still doing a restore. I noticed that the newsstand app is right on my home screen though, and I’d really rather it in my «Apple» folder, so I do a long press and try to move it. This failed, since (as I later learned) newsstand can’t go IN a folder, because it actually IS a folder. Then I notice something else, the app that was restored to my iphone while I was doing this isn’t in the folder it is supposed to be in. Weird. —> drag —> drop. Solved.

Except. then I notice that ALL of my 160+ apps aren’t going into their folders. D’oh! That’s going to be a lot of extra work. Oh well, I decide to leave the phone to do it’s thing.

Restore wraps up. and I get an error message on my computer!

«an error occurred while restoring this iphone (-34)»

That’s not good. oh. None of my 3rd party apps will open. Also NOT GOOD.

I try to do a restore. I get the dreaded «An internal error has occurred» message that so many people are experiencing. I try a DFU restore. Same deal.

At this point I figure my iphone is pooched and figure I’ll have to go to the genius bar. Then I notice on the forum that so many people are having the same problem, so I play with it a bit. And solved it. Here’s how:

  1. Don’t use your computer to reset your phone, since it’s obviously not working. Instead, go onto the phone itself and in the settings area reset it to factory defaults & delete all your data. You have a backup (hopefully) on you computer, so this shouldn’t be a problem.
  2. Run through on screen introduction / setup of iOS 5
  3. Plug phone into your computer
  4. Your computer should recognize the phone as a «new» phone, and ask if you want to set it up as a new device or restore from backup. Restore it from your backup. You may need to run through the on screen iOS 5 setup again, but once you’ve done that then leave the phone alone while it does a restore. Do not mess around with the phone as it is restoring from your backup. It is my assumption that this is what caused the corruption in the first place.

I updated my xcode to 11.4 through the .xip file from apple’s developer website

I installed it and everything is working fine except for when I opened storyboard, it didn’t load anything. It gave me a `An internal error occurred. Editing functionality may be limited.)

r/iosdev - Xcode 11.4 storyboard (An internal error occurred. Editing functionality may be limited.)

button not showing at all, this is from an empty project. It also doesn’t work in existing projects

I googled some solutions like here, but haven’t gotten any luck. I reinstalled xcode, deleted its caches, restart my computer, but it didn’t solve the problem.

Below is a snippet from the Log.txt that I get from reporting the bug.

MacOS High Siera
Xcode

xcode-select -p

sudo xcode-select --switch /Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer

Xcode 8.

rm -rf ~/Library/Developer/Xcode/DerivedData/

или же

Xcode -> Preferences -> Location -> Derived Data

screenshot 1

screenshot 2

screenshot 3

Xocde

Xcode 9.4.1
MacOS High Seirra 10.13.4

Xcode
Mac

Library/Developer.

macOS High Sierra 10.13.4

enter image description here

3.5 <document type="com.apple.InterfaceBuilder3.CocoaTouch.Storyboard.XIB" version="3.0"
