I’m using the Steam platform to play RA3, and I’ve just started on this CnC Online part. The confussing, frustrating thing is that when I try to install the launcher, it pops up with a small message telling me the following:
«Could not write value Debugger to key SoftwareMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionImage File Execution Optionsgenerals.exe. Verify that you have sufficient acces to that key, or contact your support personnel.»
It first confuses me, then thereafter it replaces the «generals.exe» with «CNC3.exe» when I click Ignore, then «CNC3EP1.exe» and at last, «RA3.exe».
I tried to ignore them all, but when I try hooking to Red Alert 3, it won’t hook, and it tells me it can’t find the game.
EDIT 21-05-16: Thanks for the reply, I finally got it working and I got it hooked for my Red Alert 3. Magnificent!

You need to make sure that you’re logged in as administrator when you install the launcher and, if you have anti-virus installed that it is disabled during the install. If you still have problems, it may be because some antivirus software continues to operate even when apparently disabled. We can cross that bridge if and when we come to it.

This 2020 blog post tells you how to play Red Alert 3 online.
Warning: You take responsibility for any problems arising from files you download. I don’t recommend you uninstall a firewall.
Introduction
My fiancée and I decided to play Red Alert 3 online together. We usually play the LAN version, but the co-op version of the campaign levels are only available online. The problem is that EA shut down their RA3 servers! Thankfully at the time of writing you can do so for free via C&C:Online.
The installation went smoothly on a PC, but on the second PC I ran into trouble. This blog post goes into detail what I did to, so that my fiancée and I could play the campaign co-op maps together.
How to play RA3 online:
- Register with cnc-online.net.
- Log-in to cnc-online.net and then create a server account.
- Download the C&C:Online Launcher.
- Run the launcher, then select ‘Red Alert 3’.
- When wishing to play online multiplayer, log-in using the server account (instead of using EA details) that you created in step 2. *
- When you create a server account, you create a name and password. When entering into Red Alert 3, I typed in the email address used when I registered at CNC-Online.
You can either choose to play a co-op campaign game or just online play against others. If you wish to play ‘online’ with or against somebody on the same LAN (but don’t wish to play a LAN game), please read the ‘Failed connection’ section further down.
C&C:Online Setup – Could not write value Debugger to key error
I ran into the debugger error message and it occurred even when I was logged into an administrator account on Windows 10.
I am using ZoneAlarm Free Firewall on the PC with Red Alert 3 installed. I tried to configure and then ‘snoozing’ the firewall for five minutes, but that didn’t solve the problem for me.
Then I uninstalled ZoneAlarm Free Firewall and the C&C:Online setup application installed without the ‘Debugger’ problem. Immediately after I closed the setup application, I reinstalled ZoneAlarm Free Firewall. I am not suggesting you uninstall a firewall, but just writing about what I did!
Error: CA public key patching routine failed
The next problem (on the same PC!) was that I couldn’t get the C&C:Online Launcher to run Red Alert 3 without showing an error.
How to resolve the CA public key patching error:
- Run the C&C:Online application.
- Select ‘Red Alert 3’ from the ‘Hook’ menu.
- Close the C&C:Online application.
- Run RA3 via the Start menu.
- When the C&C:Online application opens, select ‘Red Alert 3’.
Now in the future, all you should need to do is go through steps 4 & 5 above to play the game.
Failed connection:1-2 error
So at this stage, I’ve thought everything is finally working. We’ve signed in to the server and as we’re about to play the game, we see the failed message.
This time, the issue is because we’re using the same connection. On one of the PCs I ran a VPN connection (using a free Windscribe account) and finally my fiancée and I were able to play the online campaign co-op levels together.
Conclusion
I’ve purposely been trying to reduce my outgoings on games this year. I’ve enjoyed being able to experience a game I’ve owned for many years in a new way. Well done and thank you C&C:Online.

Sword of the Stars: The Pit

Hi,
I downloaded the free trial of Visual Studio 2013 Ultimate on my Windows 8.1 box, and started the installation as an administrator.
It gets to the prerequisite stage, error message: «visual studio 2013 prerequisites — fatal error during installation.»
I cannot for the life of me get it to work. Please see the errors from log file, below. I have tried to set Full Access permissions to all the registry folders down to AgDebug, but it still doesn’t work.
I greatly appreciate any and all help. Thank you!

Could not write value complete to key
Hi,
I tried to update to v4.1 by running the client, content and scenery installers, all appeared fine apart from when installing the scenery.msi, I had an error come up saying:
«Could not write value complete to key products192A359C5D0CE414281177D8E5357DA3features»
Antivirus is off, UAC disabled, can’t seem to run as administrator as it’s greyed out but my account is the administrator account. I have tried the repair function, I’ve also tried the «delete generated files» fix mentioned in another post.
P3D runs ok but the ‘loading auto generated scenery’ takes forever (it never used to) and the sim stutters loads (it never used to).
Any help appreciated! would like to get this fixed before I install all the rest of the addons on top!
I suppose of potential note is that when opening P3D for the first time since update, it said there was a scenery file it couldn’t find, «scenery1scenery» or something, would I like to unload it? When I looked in the scenery library, there were 3 entries there at the bottom that I didn’t recognise from v4.0. So I unticked them all which seem to make no difference. That message still appears everytime I load the sim.

Hello liamkirkham
Just to confirm, Did you Uninstall the old components first before you Installed the new components, Client, Content and Scenery ?
liamkirkham wrote: ↑Fri Feb 09, 2018 1:29 pm
it said there was a scenery file it couldn’t find, «scenery1scenery» or something
Regarding this message, Can you run a Repair on the Prepar3D Scenery componont
Navigate to the windows Control Panel, Right click on Install_Scenery.msi and click Repair
If you are still seeing this message when launching Prepar3D can you take a Screenshoot of this and post it into your next reply
Let us know how you get on

Hello
I have the same problem,
I have made the repair as you indicate, and always the same message.
I have done the installation twice, previously deleting all the components.
Before installing from scratch I made an update and it gave me the same message when I installed Install_Scenery.msi.
In view of this, erase everything and make a new intalacion, but the message keeps coming out

Hello aleixx
Welcome to the Prepar3D Forums
The message you are seeing «Could not write value» will not effect Prepar3D, The Installation will complete Ok and you should be good to go
Have you launched and Activated Prepar3D yet ?

Hi Poppet,
thanks for the reply.
Yes I uninstalled beforehand.
I tried running the repair but the message pops up during the repair as well. The message doesn’t appear when running P3D however as previously mentioned, the ‘loading auto generated scenery’ takes forever (it never used to) and the sim stutters loads (it never used to).
I presume this is likely to be the reason?
Would attempting to upgrade to v4.2 solve this do you think or compound the issue upgrading onto an incomplete V4.1 upgrade?
Regards

Hello liamkirkham
Regarding the Scenery error…..
Is this message something similar to the one you seen ? https://i.imgur.com/cTaUHWo.png
If so this message is telling you that there is an entry in your scenery.cfg file from an Add On scenery that is now either uninstalled or has been moved to a different location and Prepar3D can not find this Add On to launch it
Take an Image of this message and post it into your next reply and we will work through it, Please see the link below
https://www.prepar3d.com/forum/viewtopi … 3&t=122277
——————————————
Regarding the stutters and long loading….
Maybe you have a 3rd party Add On that is not yet compatible with Prepar3D v4.1
What Add On’s do you have Installed ?
Keep us posted on your situation
Issue:
When you tried to install Autodesk Inventor®, the installation stopped and you received the following error message:
1406-Could not write value to key
or
Error 1406. Could not write value to key
SoftwareClassesCLSID{D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000}Programmable.Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.
Causes:
This error can be have more than one cause:
- If insufficient permissions and/or a security conflict with a Registry subkey. This error will occur even if you have full rights to the registry and/or administrative privileges.
- If you have Macromedia Flash Player 8a installed on your system. This version of Flash Player may be newer than the version that is installed with Inventor.
Solution:
Insufficient permissions and/or a security conflict with a registry subkey
To resolve this issue, you need to give full control to the registry key that contains the applicable registry subkey for the active user account and the local system account.
To correct this issue:
- In the 1406 Error window, note the specific location of the registry subkey.
- Exit the installation.
- On the Start menu (Windows), click Run.
- In the Run dialog box, enter regedit.Click OK.
- In the Registry Editor, browse to the registry subkey that was displayed in the 1406 Error window.
- Right-click on the registry key that contains the registry subkey. Click Permissions.
- In the Permissions dialog box, Click Advanced.
- In the Advanced Security Settings dialog box, locate the following user accounts:
• The current login account. For example, “Joe User (joe.user@mycompany.com).”
• The local system account. For example, “SYSTEM.” - You should now be able to install Inventor.
Note: You may experience multiple 1406 errors during the installation. You will need to repeat this procedure for each registry subkey that produces a 1406 error.

If you have Macromedia Flash Player 8a installed on your system
Before you install Inventor, you should check to see which version of Flash Player is installed on your computer. If you have version 8a installed, you should uninstall it before you install Inventor. Because Flash Player 8 is installed during the Inventor installation, you will have a working version. Future Flash Player upgrades should not affect your Inventor environment.
To correct this issue:
- Cancel the installation of Inventor.
- Close all of the Internet browser windows you have open.
- On the Start menu (Windows), click Run.
- In the Run dialog box, enter C:WINDOWSsystem32MacromedFlashUninstFl.exe to clean all Flash 8a registries. Note: Make sure to enter the entire path.
- On the Start menu (Windows), click Settings > Control Panel.
- In Control Panel, double-click Add or Remove Programs.
- In the Add or Remove Programs dialog box, select Macromedia Flash Player 8. Click Remove. Note: Although Flash Player 8 is listed, this is really version 8a.
- Retry Inventor installation.
If you are still not able to install Inventor successfully, please contact Product Support for further assistance.
