to Art74
to Art74
sudo find / -name libcupsimage.so.2 что-то молчит
to Art74

Brother HL-1110 series

Astra Linux.
«Use «pdftops-renderer» option (see cups-filters README file) to use Ghostscript or MuPDF for the PDF -> PostScript conversion.»
«Use «pdftops-renderer» option (see cups-filters README file) to use Ghostscript or MuPDF for the PDF -> PostScript conversion.»

Createdevice failed org freedesktop dbus error serviceunknown the name
The printer is an HP LaserJet 1300, and works with Foomatic/pxlmono (recommended), and, as noted, worked reliably for well
over a year before developing the current problem.
Something similar seems to have happened on Ubuntu, where one supposed fix is to install avahi and run it before cups. I have
not tried that since I would rather not run avahi, but if that’s the only way to get cups to work I’ll do that.
Any suggestions for what to try? I’m running kernel 3.11.0, cups 1.6.2-r5, cups-filters 1.0.34-r1. I deeply hate cups.

I’ve had similar issues — The problem shown in the log file seems to be an issue of cups itself, I hope it will be fixed soon. I made the printer work again by using a different driver. Since I’m not at home at the moment I cannot check which one I finally used. Try using another driver if possible (try the postscript driver if you were using another one and vice versa).
Good luck! |

Thanks for the suggestion. I’ve tried using two other printer drivers (both versions of generic Postscript), and neither worked; they do offer an additional new error message not given with the pxlmono driver, though:
However, throughout all the problems I’ve been able to print to a remote networked Still looking for suggestions! (And I still hate CUPS.) |

Reinstallation of CUPS did not help.
Switching back to the pxlmono driver made the «bad driver information file» message Aaarrgghhhh. |

Ah, its a directly connected usb printer — hm, have you made sure that usb printer support is disabled in kernel if the usb use flag is enabled for cups or vice versa (if usb printer support is in the kernel, the usb use flag for cups must be disabled, if no usb printer support is in the kernel, the usb use flag for cups must be enabled). Still good luck! |

That seems to have done it — dueling USB drivers, I suppose. Anyway, I can print again, which makes me much happier. Thanks for the help! |

It’s now a month or two later, and I’m back to having problems with cups.
Currently at cups 1.6.4, with a directly-connected HP LaserJet 1300. Cups was emerged with the usb use flag, and usb printer support was disabled in the kernel. I get the message «Printer Paused» every when trying to administer cups every time I try to print, even after I can still print via cups with no problem to a networked printer — just the local one is problematic. Any ideas? Anyone? |

I have an HP inkjet printer connected to an lubuntu laptop with a USB cable, installed under CUPS as «inkjet». I can print with AbiWord OK, and a printer test page prints OK from the printer properties dialog, but if I try to print from the command line with «lpr -Pinkjet», nothing happens. I don’t get any error message, and the inkjet print queue shows as empty. lpstat shows the print queue as empty.
I am running Ubuntu 16.04.5 LTS. The printer driver is hp-envy_4510_series-hpijs.ppd.
Any ideas?
* Edit 11 Dec 2018 *
I see some error messages in the CUPS error log:

I am too ignorant of CUPS to know what to do about them or to judge their severity, so I would appreciate any advice.

I am new to Ubuntu and Linux, so I list a lot of basics you may be aware of.
I was using Bottle 43.2 ,USB cabled connecting to a Canon printer. All I could get at first, was worse than your issue, I was unable to print at all, but: only the «Green» LED basic power & «print mode» LED would blink using any way (icon or terminal).
This command identified my issue.
sudo hp-check -r
Never used distro you gave, but
Your terminal command may come in two steps:
$ su -
Puts you in «Super User» mode with your password.
Then,
$ hp-check-r
This indicated 2 problems: Found CUPS not configured properly & I had the wrong driver.

The problem was resolved by installing the cups-bsd package, as recommended in lp works but lpr does not. (If I had realized that lp was working, I might have found this answer sooner.)
I realize that it would be better to close this question and mark it as a duplicate, as recommended by unutbu, but I don’t have enough rep to vote to close, so I am posting this answer in an attempt to achieve some kind of closure.

Hello everybody
First of all, sorry for my English. I recently installed Arch on my laptop (Dell Inspiron 5570) and I encountered a problem with printing.
I have an HP LaserJet P2055d connected to a mac computer that i want to connect to from my laptop. I have installed cups, hplip and avahi and I tried to follow the instructions of the wiki page about CUPS.
With
I get the uri of the printer:
network dnssd://HP%20LaserJet%20P2055d%20%40%20Amac._ipp._tcp.local/cups?uuid=3adeef9c-8a7f-3e59-78f0-b8f1eeade322
.
To find available drivers, I tried:
and the result is

lsb/usr/HP/hp-laserjet_p2055d-pcl3.ppd.gz HP LaserJet p2055d pcl3, hpcups 3.21.12
drv:///hp/hpcups.drv/hp-laserjet_p2055dn-pcl3.ppd HP LaserJet p2055dn pcl3, hpcups 3.21.12
lsb/usr/HP/hp-laserjet_p2055dn-pcl3.ppd.gz HP LaserJet p2055dn pcl3, hpcups 3.21.12
I then tried to add a new queue for this printer according to the instructions of wiki. So I tried :
lpadmin -p LaserJet -E -v dnssd://HP%20LaserJet%20P2055d%20%40%20Amac._ipp._tcp.local/cups?uuid=3adeef9c-8a7f-3e59-78f0-b8f1eeade322 -m drv:///hp/hpcups.drv/hp-laserjet_p2055d-pcl3.ppd
Now this is interesting. I get no error messages in my terminal but two errors are reported in the file «/var/log/cups/error_log» :
CreateProfile failed: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown:The name org.freedesktop.ColorManager was not provided by any .service files
CreateDevice failed: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown:The name org.freedesktop.ColorManager was not provided by any .service files
Because the LaserJet P2055d is not a color pinter I continued the process setting the printer as default, activating it and setting it to accept jobs:
lpoptions -d LaserJet
cupsenable LaserJet
cupsaccept LaserJet
Finally I tried to print the test page as
lpr /usr/share/cups/data/testprint
After typing this command printer seems to start processing the job because the «Ready» light starts blinking and the menu screen of the printer displays «Printing document». However this continues for ever and no page is actually ever printed. When typing :
I get:
LaserJet is ready and printing
Rank Owner Job File(s) Total Size
active stylian 10 testprint 1024 bytes
I am very confused!!!!
Edit: After typing
printer printed a blank page with a little black rhombus in the upper left corner.

Lubuntu 13.04 — CUPS fails to start on bootup
Lubuntu 13.04:
CUPS is not starting at boot-up. I discovered this when attempting to install the printer with this new install. I then started CUPS from the terminal, was able to install the printer, and print. However, on restarting the computer, the service again fails to start. How do I configure this service to always automatically start on bootup?
There is a Desktop Sessions Settings dialog of automatically started applications, but CUPS is not included there.

Re: CUPS fails to start on bootup
open a terminal and give me the output of
Code:
head /etc/init/cups.conf
I’ve not SEEN it configured wrong before, but I’ve never not not seen CUPS start on startup before either

Re: CUPS fails to start on bootup
Here is the output:
Code:
dn@Alexa:~$ head /etc/init/cups.conf # cups - CUPS Printing spooler and server description "CUPS printing spooler/server" author "Michael Sweet <msweet@apple.com>" start on (filesystem and started avahi-daemon and (started dbus or runlevel [2345])) stop on runlevel [016]

Look for clues in /var/log/cups.

Re: CUPS fails to start on bootup
I’m looking at the output I gave, and I am not a coder, but it looks to me like for cupsd to start avahi-daemon must be started first? Am I right or wrong?

Re: CUPS fails to start on bootup
avahi simply advertises services—in this case shared printers. It should not cause cupsd to fail. CUPS does not have a direct dependecy but «recommends» avahi-daemon, which means it should be able to run without avahi-daemon.
If you are running 13.04, try the following:
Code:
sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade reboot
Then check your printers.

As to the cups log files, here is part of the error log, with output from a session earlier this afternoon:

Not sure these are that relevant to the cups-not-running problem — Lubuntu 12.10 on another computer shows similar errors (except for the bad driver information file line) and it prints normally.
Thanks for pointing out the logs.

I already tried this earlier. No effect.
Yes, cupsd does not need avahi-daemon, and can run without it, but from the structure of the code, it appears to me that cupsd will not start unless avahi-daemon has been started first. Am I wrong on that interpretation?
Next, I just found that avahi-daemon is not installed with Lubuntu 13.04:
Code:
dn@Alexa:~$ apt-cache policy avahi-daemon avahi-daemon: Installed: (none) Candidate: 0.6.31-1ubuntu3 Version table: 0.6.31-1ubuntu3 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ raring/main i386 Packages
It’s not installed on my Lubuntu 12.10 installation either, and Lubuntu 12.10 prints normally. But on 12.10, the cups.conf does not include any reference to avahi-daemon — here is the cups.conf from Lubuntu 12.10:
Code:
dn@Roxanne:~$ head /etc/init/cups.conf # cups - CUPS Printing spooler and server description "CUPS printing spooler/server" author "Michael Sweet <msweet@apple.com>" start on (filesystem and (started dbus or runlevel [2345])) stop on runlevel [016] respawn
I think I need to install avahi-daemon, or else change the code to remove reference to it.
Comment?

Re: CUPS fails to start on bootup
Well, I edited cups.conf and removed the line referring to avahi-daemon. I was correct — this was stopping cupsd from starting. Tested and confirmed this solution. Printing on Lubuntu 13.04 now works.
Now, anyone who downloads and installs Lubuntu 13.04 from the same iso is going to be affected by the same problem.
The iso is at:
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/lubuntu/re…sktop-i386.iso
and has a misconfigured cups.conf that will prevent the cups-daemon from starting unless fixed.
The corrected cups.conf begins:
Code:
# cups - CUPS Printing spooler and server description "CUPS printing spooler/server" author "Michael Sweet <msweet@apple.com>" start on (filesystem and (started dbus or runlevel [2345])) stop on runlevel [016] respawn
Thanks to Synoc and tgalati4 for your input.

Re: CUPS fails to start on bootup
thanks for the tip. Solved this issue for me too.
