Unable to create bottle

Hi!

I just installed Crossover 20.0.4 on my MacBook Pro M1 running MacOS 11.3 public beta. The installation of Crossover went fine.
But when trying to install Steam from «install a windows application» guide, I get an error message saying that «The Creating the Steam bottle task failed» and «cxbottle:error: unable to create the ‘Steam’ bottle».
When I click cancel, the app just crashes.

I can see that there is a folder called ‘Steam’ created under Library/Application Support/CrossOver/Bottles

Looking at the log is says:

preloader: Warning: failed to reserve range 0000000000001000-0000000000010000

:cxlogfilter:exit

Does anyone know what could cause it?

I also tried to install Half-Life 2 via «Install a windows application» guide, and I didn’t get any errors and it seems to work!
Is the template for Steam broken perhaps?

Update: I tried to create a bottle from scratch just to test. I was able to create a Win7 32-bit bottle but not a Win7 64-bit.
Tried to create a 64-bit gave me error:

preloader: Warning: failed to reserve range 0000000000001000-0000000000010000
winewrapper.exe:error: cannot execute L"Z:\Applications\CrossOver.app\Contents\SharedSupport\CrossOver\lib64\wine\rundll32.exe setupapi.dll,InstallHinfSection win7Install 128 Z:\Applications\CrossOver.app\Contents\SharedSupport\CrossOver\share\crossover\bottle_data\crossover.inf"
setup:error: 'rundll32 win7Install crossover.inf' failed
cxbottle:error: unable to create the 'test2' bottle in '/Users/username/Library/Application Support/CrossOver/Bottles/test2'

Perhaps Crossover is not able to run 64-bit on M1?

This seems to be a regression in 11.3 Beta, as 64Bit bottle creation works in 11.2.1.
After 11.2 was released to be public I removed the developers seed.

Also Half-Life2 will be unplayable on Apple Silicon current due to graphical glitches, this will hopefully be resolved in CX21.

Thank you!
I think I’ll need wait for the next version of Crossover or if an potential upcoming beta version of 11.3 solves it :)

Yeah…

reckon you folks are spot on.. I’m on the Dev update of 11.3 Beta.. damn it, broke now.

0000000000001000-0000000000010000 ARGHHH!

Booooo, sad. ☹️

That Preloader warning is a none issue as that memory region is marked “DOS area”

Also I would highly advise against installing a developers seed, after 11.2 launched I removed the developers seed and kept my M1 system on officially released updates only.

From what’s been discussed with me the issue only happens since installing the 11.3 beta, 32Bit bottles work but 64Bit bottle eventually fail and require a reboot to function again.

I would recommend anyone who’s running 11.3 beta to open a support ticket with this issue, I know at least one was filled but having additional confirmation is always good.

with latest beta everything working again

We are also seeing the fix with beta 3 :)

Best,
Meredith

My XBOX one controller los works flawlessly even with bluetooth connection only.

The error logs:

setup:error: ‘rundll32 win7Install crossover.inf’ failed
cxbottle:error: unable to create the ‘New Bottle’ bottle in ‘/Users/mt/Library/Application Support/CrossOver/Bottles/New Bottle’

Not being able to create a bottle may be due to the removal of 32 bit executables starting with macOS Catalina.

I have experimented with both 32 bit-bottles and 64-bit bottles on Catalina. The application I use is 32-bit application but it cannot be run using CrossOver even in a 64-bit bottle.

I have reinstalled Mojave on my MacBook to make the app functional again.

I will continue to explore ways to make it possible to a 32-bit windows exe on 64-bit bottle but I am in a halt right now.

But the 64bit bottle cannot be created yet, same error log as above.

Crossover does not work with Mac OS Catalina.

Codeweavers are working to solve this.

This is an interesting issue. As of beta 1 on a fresh install of both macOS 10.15.1 and crossover 19-b1 I am able to create bottles and import bottles from archives. I am also able to run some simple apps and games. Not sure is this is a good or a bad sign for solving your particular issue. In general this seems like a good sign however.

As Caleb said, Crossover 19 is currently in testing and does allow 32-bit Windows apps to run on Catalina.
Crossover 19 should be available soon, with Codeweavers announcing that officially on their blog.

Yes, I am testing the 2nd beta of crossover 19 and out of 27 32-bit PC games (all of them complex wargames or strategy games) for which I had working bottles in Mojave, 23 (85%) work fine in Catalina.

So I am extremely pleased with the extraordinary work Codeweavers is doing, and certain that a near perfect capability of running 32 bit Windows programs in Catalina will be possible.

Lots of developers work with open source, but only a tiny fraction of those are good enough to get software that was designed for one platform to work on another one. We invented CrossOver software — a unique approach to cross-platform compatibility that does not require dual-boot or another OS license. I have problem with installing the bottle.

I have next error:

Can I fixed it manually?

It sounds to me like you have an antivirus software installed and it incorrectly flagged and deleted some crucial CrossOver 19 files. We are working on a solution for this issue, but in the meantime you can fix this by temporarily disabling your antivirus software, redownloading and reinstalling CrossOver, and creating exceptions for CrossOver files. I have created a tutorial on how to do this here: https://www.codeweavers.com/support/wiki/mac/mactutorial/bitdefender

I’m having the same problem.
I’m running Crossover 19.0.0.32195 on a VM Catalina 10.15 Beta (19A471t) and I’m trying to install a 64 bit application on a Windows 7 64 bits.

Hi there,
Whenever I try to create a new bottle in CrossOver, I get a Bottle creation failed error with the details below. This never used to happen before but happens with the latest 19.0.2 version. I even tried rolling back to 19.0.1 but it still has the same problem. I am running macOS Catalina 10.15.5 (19F101).

How do I fix this and get it working again?

Don’t know, I’ve never used Crossover, and now trying. Creating any bottle fails. Running Mojave 10.14.6 & Crossover 19.0.1. Same result with Win 7, Win 8, Win 10 64-bit.

Same problem here. on v20 and I cannot create any bottle . I get the same error message on latest version on MacOS

Any advise anyone is very much appreciated

I really hate to suggest this but I had a similar problem when I first up dated to Catalina. In the end I had to use AppCleaner to remove every trace of the app and then reinstall from scratch. That worked and I have no problems since. 😯 😊

Unfortunately this didn’t work either for me. Removing and install from new, even with the AppCleaner gives me the same error

There is one other solution. If this does not work you could possibly need to reinstall your system as it could have a corruption in it. Restart your Mac in Safe Mode. That will disable any and all extensions that could be causing the problem. If you can create the bottles then you likely have a conflicting extension. 😕

One other thought! I would download a new installer. Again delete the current install and see what happens. After your earlier note I deleted my app and reinstalled it fresh in this nightmare called Catalina and I had no problems even with the horde of extensions that I have onboard.

The most likely problem is that you have some antivirus software installed that is incorrectly flagging and/or deleting CrossOver files. We have a basic how-to on telling your A/V software to ignore CrossOver here: https://www.codeweavers.com/support/wiki/mac/mactutorial/bitdefender

Some A/V software actually deletes CrossOver files without your permission, so the best practice is to download a new CrossOver installer after you disable your A/V software.

We have talked to various A/V companies, and the only way they have given us to «solve» this problem is for folks to report the incorrectly flagged files to them so that their algorithm can learn that those files are actually safe. We are deeply grateful for everyone who has been doing this 🙂

Another possible cause is if you do not have enough space in the location where the bottles are being stored. If you are running very low on storage, try freeing up some disk space 🙂

[Solved] Crossover bottle wont create on fat32

I’ve run into the issue that a game trips over case sensitive filenames. I could correct this for existing files but then I would have to redo that when I add/copy files and whatnot.

So I thought I had a smart idea, I created a 40GB file with DD, formatted it with mkfs.vfat and mounted it. I added the following line to fstab:

I mounted it under my regular user account issuing mount -a.

Next, I added a symlink while sitting in my homedir for Crossover’s settings directory:

I can enter the dir .cxoffice and create files and dirs. So far so good.

When I start Crossover and create a new bottle to install Steam and the game, I get the following error message:

An error occurred while running the ‘Creating the Steam bottle’ task

Application tried to create a window, but no driver could be loaded.
The explorer process failed to start.
wine: cannot find L»\\?\unix\opt\cxoffice\lib\wine\rundll32.exe.so»
winewrapper.exe:error: cannot execute L»\\?\unix\opt\cxoffice\lib\wine\rundll32.exe.so setupapi.dll,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 128 \\?\unix\opt\cxoffice\share\crossover\bottle_data\crossover.inf»
setup:error: ‘rundll32 DefaultInstall crossover.inf’ failed
cxbottle:error: unable to create the ‘Steam’ bottle in ‘/mnt/Data/home/citizen/.cxoffice/Steam’

I’m lost, I have no idea what that means.

Some other info that might be relevant. My root filesystem is BTRFS and /mnt/Data is a RAIDZ1 on ZFS. I doubt it matters but you never know.

If you have any ideas how to fix that I’d appreciate it!

When i try to install fl studio 11 on crossover 19 i get this error message cxbottle:error: unable to create the ‘FL Studio 11’ bottle in ‘/Users/.

Just in case anyone else is running into this problem and found this thread:

I just ran into this problem myself and then realized it was because I was testing some antivirus software and it murdered my CrossOver install. If you have Bitdefender, Avast, or any other antivirus installed, please look at this page for instructions on how to protect CrossOver 19 from these programs which are currently flagging vital CrossOver files with false positives: https://www.codeweavers.com/support/wiki/mac/mactutorial/bitdefender

Hi everyone,

I’m an old user of this forum (maybe some of you remember me) and supported actively the OSx86 Project.

After playing around with hackintoshes I decided to switch and now I’m a happy owner of a 24″ iMac and a Macbook Air.

Enough presentation, let’s get to work ^_^

I want to make the point of the situation on apps working and not in Snow Leopard.

ONLY CIDER GAMES REFUSE TO WORK, EVERYTHING IS WORKING SO FAR

7zX works

Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended works

AppZapper works

Azuresus WORKS, EDIT THE INFO.PLIST FILE AS DESCRIBED LATER IN THIS 3D

Boycott Advance works

CandyBar works

Coolbook works

Eclipse works

ExtremeTuxRacer works (very fast)

EZ 7z works

iLife 08 works

Limewire WORKS, EDIT THE INFO.PLIST FILE AS DESCRIBED LATER IN THIS 3D)

Microsoft Office 2008 EDIT: WORKS, UPDATE TO THE LAST VERSION

Microsoft Messenger works

Pacifist DOES NOT WORK

Parallels WORKS BUT YOU HAVE TO START IT FROM TERMINAL

PCSX works

smcFanControl works

SMS Plus works

Speed Download 4 works BUT IT DOESN’T INTEGRATE IN SAFARI 4

SPORE Creature Creator DOES NOT WORK (refer to the cider problem)

Stuffit expander 11 works

TeamSpeex works

TGEmu works

Toast 8 Titanium WORKS WITH EVERYTHING, UPDATE TO 9.0.2

Tunnelblick works

Unreal Tournament 2004 works (slower than in lepoard)

VLC works

Warcraft 3 works

World of Warcraft works

Serious problem are those with java apps… I’d like to hear something from you so we can help each other and work on it.

P.S.: I know, Snow Leopard it isn’t even a beta but so far I’m more than satisfied with it, especially with its speed… if we manage to make more or less everything work it would be really nice while we wait for the final version of SL to come out. :)

  1. Help with Crossover…

Crossover support gave me a generic answer to my query that hasn’t really helped me at all.

I got the lame duck challenge free registration for crossover in the hopes that it would enable me to completely leave windows behind (a few games are all that binds me to windows at this point) and though I had some difficulty at first installing the software, I’ve got it now.

My trouble is this: The download itself is a ‘demo’ version, and the full version must be unlocked by entering your email and registration code. When I do this, I get a couple of strange errors, which I have transcribed below:

«Automatic registration failed when creating a temporary bottle: Error
executing ‘»/opt/cxgames/bin/cxbottle» —creat —scope private —bottle
    «unlockbottle-4» —install’:

wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x00000200 at address
    0xb7f27fed (thread 0027), starting debugger…
    setup:error: ‘rundll32 DefaultInstall crossover.inf’ failed
wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x00000200 at address
    0xb7fe2fed (thread 0020), starting debugger…
    setup:error: ‘rundll32 DefaultInstall crossover.inf’ failed
cxbottle:error: unable to create the ‘unlockbottle-4’ bottle in
    ‘/root/.cxgamers/unlockbottle-4’

And then it tells me to contact support if the problem persists. This is the response I got from their support person:

«Make sure you’re using a regular user account to register Crossover with, not the root account. That unlockbottle-4 error is usually caused by new security restrictions present in Ubuntu 8.10.»

The problem is, that I *am* using my regular user account for the installation. At least… I think I am… I only have the one account (the one it asked me to make upon initial installation of ubuntu).

Any assistance would be, in a word, awesome.

My download was the full version. The instructions I got from Codeweavers were as follows:

    «Go to www.codeweavers.com
    <click> Log-in
    <click> Returning customer
    <enter> Username = xxx
    <enter> Password = yyy

Now, <click> My Account (upper right hand corner) <click> My Downloads (fifth link in box on left)

Here is where you will find the download.»

Could you try this and see what happens?

  3. Re: Help with Crossover…

Thanks for the reply — I do have access to the full version download of Crossover Pro, but the one I’m having trouble with is Crossover Games. I’ve been all over my account profile on the crossover website, and the only download I can find for crossover games is for the demo version.

I’ve thought about trying to install my games using crossover pro, but they aren’t supported with that version of crossover, whereas they *are* supported with the crossover games edition.
