Dismas Mersiv, also known by his Skorpe handle gigantisDebilitation, is one of the trolls in Vast Error. His associated alchemic sigil is Phosphorus, and he is a deconstruction of the «edgy» fantroll archetype.[1]

His survival ability is a pseudo-healing factor, which speeds up his body’s natural healing process but does not lessen any resulting scarring.

He was the fourth troll introduced and the fifth troll to enter the game.

Etymology

Dismas shares a name with Saint Dismas, the «Penitent Thief» or «Good Thief», possibly as a nod to his player class. According to the Christian tradition, Saint Dismas was one of the two criminals who died on crosses next to Jesus during the latter’s crucifixion.

The name Dismas is also derived from Greek δυσμή (dysme), meaning «sunset».

Biography

Early life

As stated by Glomer during Snowbound Blood: Volume Nine, Dismas was taken captive by a Skulltitan while still in school. He was four passes old at the time, «graduating» early. Since that moment, he was forced to look after his new lusus, mining irradiated ores from the canyon where his hive is located and eventually building up a resistance to the hazardous material.

A younger Dismas working for Murrit.

Later, Dismas reunites with Murrit Turkin through an online game of poker in which he bet and lost his «soul», coming to work for the seadweller as a personal hitman in the process. During this time, he helped them take back the pieces of the Frog Temple they had sold, as Murrit needed them back in order to fulfill their deal with White Noise. The two became kismeses over the course of their relationship.

Also during that time, Murrit found Jentha Briati through unknown circumstances, leading Dismas to her under the guise of a hit. Dismas refused to end her life, and eventually the two found solace in each other, entering a moirallegiance.

Act 1

Dismas is first introduced inside his respiteblock. He is soon messaged by Murrit, who urges him to go outside in order to help her with her plans to save their friends from planetary annihilation and bring about The Game. Despite his concerns about dealing with his lusus, Dismas begrudgingly complies.

After leaving his hive, Dismas finds one of Murrit’s remote surveillance boobdrones waiting for him. Controlled by Murrit, the boobdrone points toward the sky and draws his attention to an incoming meteor, proof that their world-ending claims are true. Moments later, Dismas’ angered lusus finds him. He braces for a confrontation.

Later, Dismas receives a message from Albion Shukra while hiding from the Skulltitan inside a cave. Unaware that she is being possessed by her long-dead ancestor, he has a brief conversation with Cyprim Shukra, who warns him not to «lend credence to the man who spins his words like yarn» and tells him to stop the «limeblooded vessel to his heart». Both statements leave Dismas deeply confused and concerned for his friend.

During the events of [S] Arcjec: Enter. DCRC icon.png, Dismas is shown fighting his lusus. He is knocked off cliff and then shot with a laser-like blast from the Skulltitan’s mouth, losing his bandana in the process and hurtling toward a nearby waterfall.

Act 2

Some time later, Dismas wakes up at the bottom of the canyon, alive but heavily injured. He’s approached by the same boobdrone from earlier and lets Murrit know that he’s out of commission, on account of a newly-broken arm. They get into an argument about Murrit’s previous actions putting Dismas’ in harm’s way, all for one of their fun little exploit/tion numbers, but the couple dances around an actual apology. In an effort to make Dismas feel better and get him to move on, Murrit brings his moirail, Jentha, into the call.

After Dismas reassures Jentha about his condition, downplaying his injuries, Murrit states that he’s ready for Dismas to act as his server player. Dismas and Jentha are outraged at the suggestion, both due to Dismas’ condition and Murrit being entirely at fault for it, but the seadweller manages to talk Dismas into listening to him: he tells them that he’s hatched a plan to get Dismas back to his hive using an ore-powered minecart by the nearby rails.

Jentha and Dismas are skeptical, but Dismas concedes, due to both a lack of options and Murrit’s reassurances that things are >([under control]. Dismas is then deposited into the cart and proceeds to MELT TRACK, boobdrone in tow.

During [S] Engage. DCRC icon.png, Dismas is shown almost falling to his death as he’s forced to jump from the minecart in order to avoid a pile of rocks on its path. Murrit manages to catch him with the boobdrone, safely throwing him inside his hive through a window. She then pushes him down through the ladder that leads into his respiteblock, where Dismas finally manages to help her with her entry.

At some point after Murrit’s entry into the Game, Albion messages Dismas in order to assist him. Dismas inquires after her strange behavior from before, a subject she tries to deflect much to his chagrin. She concedes on talking about it later on the promise that he’ll let her call him «cowboy», an old childhood nickname, again.

The two friends spend some time working together to figure out his entry codes, without much success. In the midst of an angry tirade, Dismas is visited by Weird Al, who enters his hive through a strange portal. Weird Al then tears a hole through Space, uncovering Dismas’ entry codes for him. Seemingly taking over his entry process, Al continues to assist Dismas with the help of a few wispy black creatures.

As the homunculi build Dismas’ entry gate, his paragon repository trial activates, binding him and simultaneously taking control of his lusus. Before he has a chance to act, however, Al kills the skulltitan with alchemy, releasing Dismas’ denizen and activating his gate. A fuming Dismas is then kicked inside his gate and into the Medium.

During the events of [S] Ellsee: Enter. DCRC icon.png, Dismas is shown landing on his welcome platform and arguing with his denizen, Forcas.

Act 3 Act 1

Dismas is a part of the memo Arcjec makes after the group’s entries into the Medium. He catches up with the other players, as they discuss the events of the past day and their progress through the Game so far, explaining the situation with his lusus and showing frustration at his dungeon crawler-like planet.

Some time later, he is shown fighting boss monsters on his planet, killing them with ease. He then comes across Granite, who offers him a healing potion for his broken arm. When Dismas questions how he’s supposed to drink it, Granite cheekily suggests taking off his bandana. Dismas angrily drinks it anyway, unaware of how hot the liquid is, causing him to breathe fire and burn off the bandana anyway. He quickly shoves the bottle back in his mouth to cover up his facial scar. The bone heals as promised, and Granite activates the floor beneath them, elevating them both to the next layer of the labyrinth.

Dismas, much to his annoyance, then receives a message from Murrit. A brief conversation is shown between them in which Murrit asks Dismas for an example of a paradox.

Personality and traits

The world’s not going to be ending anytime soon.
Not if he has anything to say about it. DCRC icon.png

Dismas is defined by a constant struggle to overcome his difficult circumstances. Having been raised by a volatile and aggressive skulltitan lusus, he was forced to endure horrible physical tolls and fend for himself from a very young age. Before the Game, Dismas was driven by his goal to escape his abusive home and kill his lusus, a dedication he shows through time spent studying ancient footage of skulltitans and the methods of their defeat.

He also seems prone to overestimating his abilities, to the point where he often does more harm than good to himself. Dismas tries to present a façade of being capable and tough, but has a tendency to freeze whenever it comes to making riskier decisions, a fact he is painfully aware of. His gentler, more nurturing side is on display whenever he interacts with those he cares about, namely Albion and Jentha. Although he remains curt and a bit «prickly», it’s clear that he is an understanding and honest friend. In contrast, Murrit seems to bring out his thornier side, intentionally flaring his temper and causing him to lash out in frustration.

Dismas is very self conscious about his appearance, particularly his facial scars which have disfigured the left side of his mouth. He tends to cover himself up with multiple layers of clothing in order to hide this scarring.

Relationships

Murrit Turkin

Murrit and Dismas have known each other since childhood, and have been in a kismessitude for at least two sweeps, sharing a mutually antagonistic relationship. Murrit appears to have a tough-love stance toward Dismas, often «helping» him in roundabout, frustrating ways meant to prod him into action. Dismas is vocally disapproving of Murrit’s more aggravating stunts, but tends to go along with them most of the time. He is particularly frustrated by Murrit’s avoidance of honest communication, being much more inclined to talk things out without resorting to the usual rival-like theatrics. There is, however, an implicit bond of trust between the two, which is a testament to their partnership of many sweeps.

Dismas seems to hint at a more recent strain in their relationship, which is aggravated by Murrit’s aforementioned typical avoidance of direct communication.

Jentha Briati

Dismas and Jentha are childhood friends, and are in a moirallegiance. Despite being anxiety-ridden and constantly struggling to get her thoughts into words, Jentha is much calmer when in Dismas’ presence, and he’s very good at intuitively understanding her feelings. He also provides for Jentha’s material needs, as her anxiety has stopped her from being able to find a source of income on her own. The two are shown to be very in tune with one another.

Albion Shukra

Albion and Dismas are longtime childhood friends. Dismas was notably concerned about Albion’s behavior during her brief possession stint, only relaxing when Murrit assured him that she was fine through his surveillance feeds. The two share an easy rapport, frequently teasing each other but still showing a lot trust and personal insight into the other’s emotional states. They used to go by «star child» and «cowboy» when they were younger.

Trivia

  • Dismas’ chat handle, gigantisDebilitation, means «Godzilla’s weakness» or «weakening Godzilla», with «gigantis» being a reference to the original international title of the second Godzilla movie: Gigantis: The Fire Monster, and «debilitation» meaning «to weaken», a reference to Dismas’ desire to eliminate his lusus.
  • Dismas’ distinctive facial scars appear to be a reference to «phossy jaw», an occupational disease to those who work with phosphorus without proper safety equipment.
    • Murrit has specifically called Dismas «phossy jaw» in reference to that condition.
    • Notably, this coincides with Dismas’ alchemic sigil, phosphorous.
  • In Snowbound Blood: Volume Nine, it was confirmed that Dismas is a trans man.[2]
  • Being a Derse dreamer, a bronzeblood and a Hero of Mind, Dismas’ would-be extended zodiac sign is Taurza, Sign of the Revealer.
  • Dismas runs a Filler account under the username irradiated.

Dismas enters the Stone Age[]

Dismas was born in the stone age, which was a lie constructed by corporate in order to sedate the masses into thinking their way of life was the best. The stone age has mystical powers that trolls should not have known, but did for seemingly no reason. However, Dismas insisted on remaining feral, and left when a time portal opened up. Some theorize that Dismas leaving the zone is what caused the fall of the stone age.

Dismas enters the Drug Age[]

When Dismas left the Stone age, he quickly became a Colombian drug dealer, and rose to the top of the stonks by stealing products with Murrit, and along the way, he met Jentha and taught her his feral ways, and to this day, he thinks fondly of her and wishes to meet her again. At the top of the stonks, upon the sands of Colombia, he and Murrit decided to murder someone to celebrate their anniversary of stonking.

Dismas enters the Caldcceus Divorce Catastrophy Age[]

After he engaged in stonks with Murrit, his 55% share in Titcoin collapsed, causing him to enter sex slavery to Murrit as to repay his 400 billion loops debt, oh yeah and then the Caldcceus divorce happened and dismas was gifted a god tier bussy by murrit as a repayment for his loyalty

Dismas enters the Repition 2: Electric Boogaloo[]

Once the Caldcceus Divorce ended in the distruction of Repition 2 thanks to the giga brap caused by Calder in his final moments on Repiton 1, he soon left for Repition 2 where he is now a well known male prostitute for Murrit

Because of these factors you’ve been left a little SOCIALLY HINDERED. Your MATESPRIT has spent a lot of time teaching you the ropes but you aren’t able to grasp at a lot of the “lingo” your clique tosses around “on the reg”. You desperately make the attempt regardless though. You’ve spent a majority of your free time READING throughout your life as an aid to try and see what you’ve missed, giving you a profound knowledge of PLANETARY HISTORY and making you a bit of a buff in the process. You also like to give POETRY a try when you can but it tends to wax a little too far on the complex side for your tastes. You were never good at riddles and figures of speech.

  • Dark and Troubled Past: The story hints at a troubling time in Sova’s life. One which she is apparently reminded of by a Phantom Of The Opera poster she has in her room. Said past has also apparently made her unwilling to sing at the present time.

These mini-rebellions are grounds of territorial abuse to your custodian, and as such you have MANY SCRAPES WITH HIM, quite literally in fact. These poisoned marks would normally kill on principle, but your body has a PSEUDO-HEALING FACTOR that mends your wounds albeit leaving them SCARRED AND DISFIGURED. You are EXTREMELY SENSITIVE about this, and as such make sure to COVER THEM UP as much as possible.

You are the TWELFTH and FINAL in a long line of EXTRATERRESTRIAL PROPHETS, the true name of these multiuniversal deities only given the vague term of STAR CHILDREN. Your overall purpose in life is to teach others about COMING TOGETHER. He is the Prince of Blood. His trolltag is macabreExude. His sign is based upon the alchemical symbol for Sulfur.

He has allocated his STRIFE SPECIBUS with the LASERKIND ABSTRATUS. He was the eighth troll introduced.

Your religious allegiances lie within that of the MIRTHAMANIACS. A specific breed of JESTER-ESQUE PERSONAS, that wishes to promote THE IDEOLOGY OF RIGHTEOUS JUDGEMENT against LETHAL FALLACIES OF CORRUPTION RUNNING WILD IN THE SYSTEM. This is a fancy way of promoting the perverse nature of CHOREOGRAPHED INFIGHTING GRUDGE MATCHES to decide who TRULY DESERVES A SPOT AT THE TOP OF THE LADDER with the RAWED BROTHERS. As well as keeping the personal intents of GRIEVANCE SLAUGHTERING away from the public. Everybody’s got a price.

A cantankerous troll who goes by the nickname of ‘Taz’, and is religiously affiliated with a cult of corrupt wrestler personas called the «Mirthamaniacs».

She is the Sylph of Rage. Her trolltag is perniciousOverkill, her sign is based on the alchemical symbol for Platinum.

She has allocated her STRIFE SPECIBUS with the MACEKIND ABSTRATUS. She was the second troll introduced.

~She begins and ends her sen+ences wi+h a +ilde and replaces +'s wi+h plus signs~
~She also CAPI+ALIZES words some+imes for emphasis~

  • Ax-Crazy: Has murdered at least one other Mirthamaniac and supposedly many others along with various lowbloods.
  • Boobs of Steel: Often not noticeable, due to the Limited Artstyle nature of the Homestuck artstyle, but as seen during the few times Taz is seen from specific angles in the more detailed Hero Mode art shots, she has a much more noticeable bust than most of the other female cast, and Murrit outright calls her «big breasted», and he constantly mentions and nicknames her breasts when speaking to her. And, as typical of a Purple-Blood, she is also one of the most physically imposing of the cast, one of the most physically strong of the cast, prefers using the heavy and brutal Macekind Specibus, and is always quick to choose physical, often violent solutions to problems.
  • Juggalo: A parody of a parody of juggalos.
  • Leitmotif: Razzmatazz.
  • Murder Is the Best Solution: What the Mirthamaniac’s supposedly revolve their practices around, only hiding it in a show like format to distract others from the fact that they kill lowbloods as population control.
  • Wall of Weapons: Has a lot of various torture weapons in her respiteblock and her hive, including a novelty hand clapper.

    Murrit Turkin

Murrit Turkin

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/murritsprite_by_sparaze_db814mu.png

In the past you were a SALESMAN. But after your DREAMSELF was awoken on the moon of DERSE by making a DEAL WITH A STRANGER, a small group of CHEATS known as the DEAD SHUFFLERS took you in as a HOSTAGE to the BLACK QUEEN. It was soon that their leader, the SCATHING SHARPER, took a shine to you. Learning from your newfound home, you were soon turned into a FEARED PERSONALITY AMONGST THE LAST REMAINING MEMBERS OF THE SEA TROLL HIERARCHY. As a RUTHLESS SWINDLER and CARD SHARK in the world of many various GAMBLING SPORTS, you acquired a fine taste for TAKING WHAT YOU WANT regardless if you earned it or not, and MURDERING any poor sucker who didn’t pony up the goods. You actually ended up meeting your PARTNER, Dismas, through these means. You still technically OWN HIS SOUL from that virtual poker game about two or so sweeps back, not that it matters now. You soon realized that wasn’t the life you wanted to lead, and as such you GAVE IT ALL UP. Ending your reign and betraying the family you once had, sentencing one to a LIFE of COMMUNITY SERVICE and the other three INTO HIDING.

A sleazy, lecherous troll who is more complex than first glance would suggest.

He is the Thief of Time. His trolltag is unclaspedKahuna, his sign is based on the alchemical symbol for Lead.

He has allocated his STRIFE SPECIBUS with the 2xKNUCKLEKIND ABSTRATUS. He was the fifth troll introduced.

  • Anime Hair: His reverse pompadour.
  • Complexity Addiction: Nobody knows how or why Murrit works the way he does, most of the other trolls don’t even understand what he’s saying. And it seems he would rather keep it that way.
  • Cool Shades: His shutter shades, all fifty two pairs of them. Which coincidentally is the same number in a deck of cards and in year, (or in this case, half of a sweep) Murrit switches between all color variations of his shades within this timeframe.
  • Fetish: Hentai. Though nobody knows if he actually likes it at this point or if it’s still just a long running gag to make fun of another troll’s interest, including himself.
  • Filth: His «hentai dungeon», as well as nude drawings of all of his friends on body pillows.
  • Fish People: Subverted, as he refuses to act or acknowledge his place according to GS.
  • Leitmotif: Mammory Master.
  • The Gambler: In the past.
  • The Nicknamer: Has not once referred to another character by their real name and instead opts to use fitting nicknames about their personality or interests. Usually insulting.
  • Young Entrepreneur: His past self could be classified as this before joining the Dead Shufflers, which made him more of a ruthless Con Man.

    Calder Kerian

Calder Kerian

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/calder_kerian.png

Your life is secured as not only a SEA DWELLER, but because you hold the highest SHADE of violet blood remaining on the hemospectrum, MAGENTA. A gift given to you by your ANCESTOR, a gift which leaves you as a societal pariah by association due to his unbridled jealousy… Your goal is to undo the mess he made and become a POWERFUL LEADER yourself, sending society into a new age with instated law and legislation. You make strides towards this goal by using your endangerment as leverage to publish SLANDEROUS PERIODICALS speaking on topical issues while harshly criticizing those who disagree with what you put out into the public. Even from his shadow, you are regarded as overly SELF-IMPORTANT. But that exact attitude has given you a LEGION of admirers amongst the scoffing crowd, ones that agree with your ideals and see the facts for what they truly are.

He is the Maid of Void. His trolltag is grandioseSaturation. His symbol is based upon the alchemical symbol for Iron.

He has allocated his STRIFE SPECIBUS with the GLAIVEKIND, HALBERDKIND, AND GOLFCLUBKIND ABSTRATI.

He does not use a typing quirk of any sort because he sees it as silly and useless.

  • All of the Other Reindeer: Word of God declares that pretty much everyone on the planet would hate Calder on principal because of his ancestry.
  • Authority in Name Only: While typically a higher blood caste is indicative of a ruling status, and Calder has the highest blood available, he has nowhere near the power he’d like to. Not helped that Repiton is an apparent capitalist hellscape where the greater corporate powers are the only ones who have any real power.
  • Genocide Backfire: On the receiving end of his ancestor’s actions during his reign, during which almost every sea dweller in existence was wiped out.
  • He-Man Woman Hater: One of his most well known traits is that he has a very announced and unabashed lack of respect for the female gender. Often insulting the girls he knows both to others and even to their faces. Fittingly, his sign, the alchemic symbol for iron, is also most commonly associated with the ‘male’ symbol.
  • Last of His Kind: While not the last sea dweller, Calder is the last of the sea dwellers with a shade of magenta blood, the closest kind left to proper fuschia. Not that it gives him much right to rule, given how this attempted power grab ended up wiping out the future monarchy altogether.
  • Must Make Amends: One of Calder’s primary motivations for his current actions and interests. Whether out of guilt or a simple sense of duty, his biggest goal at present is to right the wrongs of his ancestor to fix the planet and reinstate a proper rule over the planet again, and fix all the ways that his ancestor damaged the planet.
  • Noodle Incident: There are apparently as of yet unknown events in the past which formed his present day opinions about things.
  • Parental Neglect: Word of god is that Calder’s lusus, a giant female anglerfish, really doesn’t care about her charge and leaves him to do whatever while she does her own thing. And Calder resents her for this. Though, considering his beliefs and the interactions between male and female anglerfish, that may not be the only reason for his resentment.
  • Redeeming Replacement: How he views himself. At present, his blood color and the Kerian name are viewed on Repiton as symbols of genocide and violence. His current goal is to work past this and regain control of the planet to set things back into proper order, fixing what was done by his legacy in the past.
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something: Though Calder is a royal in name only, he’s actively working to repair the damage his ancestor did, and trying to fight the ruling powers which continue to ruin Repiton in pursuit of wealth. Though this is mostly seen as him running magazines hosting controversial topics using what limited authority his blood allows him.
  • Sins of Our Fathers: Seems to feel this way about his ancestor’s reign on Repiton, during which 99.9% of all sea dwellers were killed out of apparent jealousy, and every single Fuschia blood was wiped out. Leaving his ancestor, and Calder himself, as the highest shade of blood left on Repiton (magenta).
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: With his irritating behavior and his outspoken beliefs about gender, it’s little wonder as to why he spends most of his time alone despite being able to contact them. Hinted to have not been the case in earlier times, but as of the present everyone else in the group has dropped him like an empty soda can.
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: «Calder: Traverse corridor» hints at a past Calder who was decidedly much less of a pompous jerk. Showing photographs of him smiling with former kismesis Serpaz, former moirail Occeus, and hanging around with characters like Laivan, Murrit, and even Arcjec
  • We Used to Be Friends: Calder used to be friends with much of the rest of the group, being close enough to have pictures of Murrit, Laivan, and Arcjec in the hallway connected to his hive’s throne room. As well as having once been moirails with Occeus and kismesis with Serpaz. However, word of god declares that everyone else abandoned him and whatever relationships they had with him. Leaving him only tangentially related to the group and part of their game.
  • Wine Is Classy: Deliberately attempts to invoke this in order to seem more refined and sophisticated to others. Too bad he can’t stand the taste.

Ancestors

     The Annalist

The Annalist

Sova’s ancestor who lived during the Renaissance. A writer who created many scrolls which Sova herself owns in the present day. She suffered a life of hardships as numerous as they were intense.

     The Unknown/The Forgiven

The Unknown/The Forgiven

Arcjec’s ancestor who lived during the Renaissance. After committing suicide for unknown reasons by hanging, he was brought back to life by The Vivifier using the blood curse that came with her Lime blood.

  • Driven to Suicide: For unknown reasons, he hung himself from a tree and killed himself. Where he was found not long after by the Vivifier.

     The Vivifier

The Vivifier

Also knowns as Zekura Raines. Ellsee’s ancestor who lived during the Renaissance. Carried the same blood curse that Ellsee does, which she shared with The Forgiven after he killed himself. Was once in a pale relationship with The Exemplar, who broke it off when she learned that The Vivifier had shared her blood curse with someone else when she had promised it to her.

     The Exemplar

The Exemplar

Also known as Cyprim Shukra. Albion’s ancestor who lived during the Renaissance. The Twelfth and final Star Child of her bloodline, relinquished her title as The Pure Oneself in order to bind herself to Repiton. Formerly in a moirallegiance with The Vivifier, she felt betrayed when she learned that the latter passed on her blood curse to The Forgiven instead to revive his dead body. Matesprits with Dismas’s ancestor, he died, and not long after she was murdered by her followers for unknown reasons. It is through her comunications that Albion learns the truth behind The Game, and receives a final warning to keep Ellsee away form it, and to not trust White Noise.

     The Jagerman

The Jagerman

Laivan’s ancestor who lived during the Renaissance. An accomplished hunter whose skills provided his companions with many a meal when they were on the run.

  • Pelts of the Barbarian: Wears a fur of unknown origin around his neck as part of his normal clothing, presumably having hunted it himself.

     Acerigger Switchem

Acerigger Switchem

Murrit’s ancestor who lived during the Renaissance. A serial bonder who chemically bonded with multiple trolls, including Caesar Consceleratus Persolus, only to leave them to suffer the effects of withdrawals. Simply because he could and he enjoyed seeing them suffer.

  • Villainous Legacy: Because of his tendency to bond with and then leave Trolls, it set a bad precedent on Repiton for Trolls who wanted to have more than one bondmate in a single quadrant, or more than the allotted two. Even in present day, the social ramifications on relationships can still be felt across the board.

     Caesar Consceleratus Persolus

Caesar Consceleratus Persolus

Calder’s ancestor who lived and reigned over Repiton during the Renaissance. He ordered a mass genocide against all sea dwellers on the planet, eliminating every last Fuschia blood, leaving him and his eventual descendant as the highest shade of violet blood on Repiton, and eliminating 99.9% of the planet’s sea dweller population.

  • Genocide from the Inside: During his reign, accomplished the deaths of every member of the Fuschia caste, and reduced the total number of sea dwellers on the planet to a mere 50, having wiped out 99.99% of the sea dweller population.
  • Villainous Legacy: Because of his actions in causing the murder of most all the other sea dwellers, the present day planet’s environment is shot to hell and back and dangerously polluted. To the point all present know his line’s name and even blood color with absolute disdain.

Other Characters

    White Noise

White Noise

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/whitenoisesprite_by_sparaze_db814pd.png

The enigmatic ETERNAL GUARDIAN of Repiton. He has played a significant role in the history of the planet and the events of Vast Error. Oh and he’s the narrator.

  • Berserk Button:
    • Being compared to his father Gaiaeon.

White Noise: DON’T YOU DARE COMPARE ME TO HIM.

    • Realizing that his omnipotence has been compromised. Like when learning from Murrit what Elisee did to make everyone weary of her.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: His bread and butter, as all of the narration is White Noise himself expositing to the audience.
  • Dem Bones: Just look at him.
  • Foil: To the other immortal troll guardian, Doc Scratch. Noise is a gracious host who greatly enjoys conversing with visitors whom he summons into his static realm. Unlike Doc Scratch, however, he is very personable and isn’t very smug, but is instead slightly overbearing and overly-talkative in conversation.
  • Medium Awareness: White Noise appears to have some amount of awareness of what’s going on. Appearing to be speaking to the audience about things that are happening in the comic and such.
  • Narrator All Along: He’s the narrator.
  • Pet the Dog: He managed to change quite a few elements of The Game, such as getting Derse to not be as violent as they were in previsions versions and having the Trolls’ planet teleported with them into the Medium rather than being abandoned and destroyed.

     Weird Al

Weird Al

Otherwise known as the «Weird Alchemist». A Troll version of Weird Al Yankovic. Heads a cult determined to make people happy. Whether they want to be or not.

  • Affably Evil: He the head of an insane happiness cult, but still cares deeply for his members, such as nuzzling Edolon’s hair when he sacrifices Serpaz’s lusus to unlock his powers.
  • Non-Standard Character Design: He looks just like the real-life Weird Al Yankovic, albeit with shadowy troll skin and horns.

     Edolon

Edolon

Member of the Weird Al cult who acts with as of yet unknown intents. Has some past association with Serpaz.

     Sestro

Sestro

The Corporate Heir. A purple blood who is set to one day take control of the planet-wide megaconglomerate known only as Corporate.

     Hamifi

Hamifi

The Advisor. A jade blood who is Advisor to Sestro.

     Rogi

Rogi

Occeus’s golem lab assistant that he created from parts of dead Trolls. A successful animation, though he lacks a soul and is not especially bright.

     The Dead Shufflers

A group of notorious white-collar Dersites kingpins. Lead by Jack Noir, also known as Scathing Sharper, their group consists of Defrauding Dealer, Hustle Bones and Charmed Defalcators. They ruled Derse with an iron fist until their newest member, the Dreamself of Murrit Turkin got bored of them and screwed them over. Only Scathing Sharper was punished, as DD, HB, CD sold him out and are now in witness protection, while SS became THE TRASH MAN.
They take center stage in Intermission 2 Side 1, where are invited to a transdimensional space called HOTEL CALIFORNIA with the express purpose of devaluing it and facing off against SS’s Arch Nemesis.

Laivan ferro vast error

Your name is LAIVAN FERROO.

You were born with a RARE AND QUITE SEVERE LUNG CONDITION, due to a mishap in your REDUPLICATION PROCESS — your lungs are a few sizes TOO SMALL, which makes it hard for you to string long sentences together or partake in any sort of intense physical activity.

ACUTE LACK OF BREATH is a very serious issue to you.

Not that this stops you from giving those ventures a shot regardless. In fact, you spend a majority of your time hunting BIG GAME with your trusty custodian, MUTT. You like to think of yourself as quite the SHARPSHOOTER, when it comes down to it — if not in terms of raw gun-toting skills, then at least in the total positive net-worth of your firing attempts.

Which is to say, you’ve had a number of HORRIBLE ACCIDENTS involving your RIFLE and stray BULLETS, but one of those incidents ended up changing your life for the better — significantly so, considering it led to you meeting a very SPECIAL SOMEONE, and you’re both far happier for it. Or so her preferred method of framing the situation goes.

You also enjoy performing TAXIDERMY on the animals you take home, turning them into STATUES, TROPHIES and ASSORTED KNICK KNACKS which you then SELL ONLINE FOR A LIVING. You’re not sure why anyone is interested in buying the stuff you make — it’s all just for fun — but hey, you’re not going to say no to financial compensation. Especially when you’re always running out of glue.

Oh, and you’re pretty avidly into KNOT TYING, you guess. Just as a fun pastime. You’re TERRIBLY BAD AT IT and just end up leaving a majority of the tangles you make lying in the corner over there.

Other than that, you enjoy GAMING with your friends. You’re personally more into the classic titles than any of the fancy new releases that have been consistently pumped out in recent sweeps — call you old school, but the notion of a virtual simulation WARPING REALITY AROUND YOU kind of freaks you out a little. As such, even though you DID rank at the top of the leaderboards in a game of this nature with an OLD FRIEND, the aging ANTHROPORMUNICIPALITY remains a big guilty pleasure of yours to this day.

The message it tries to hammer into everyone’s skulls doesn’t really stick the landing when it’s coupled with a polygonal mess of multicolored, vaguely lusii-like player avatars glitching all over the place.

And that’s exactly why you love it so much. The hamfisted, poor presentation has a certain lo-fi charm to it, you think.

Your trolltag is windlessArtificer and you Speak in a measured way that lets you breathe- when it’s needed-

Vast Error: Act 1

Please, bear with the gaps until it is time for them to be appropriately filled.
This page has missing content or no content at all! Beef it up with some information before it is lost to the void.

This young troll stands in his respiteblock. It just so happens that today, the 22nd bi-lunar perigee of the 3rd dark season’s equinox, is the day of this indicated troll’s larval awakening, also known as his wriggling day. A night that stands out in infamy among the rest of the litter, mainly just because of the fact that it really doesn’t need to exist.

The first act of Vast Error is titled Slow, Yet Infinite. The act is an introduction to half of the main twelve trolls with a primary focus on Arcjec Voorat. It begins the world building of the planet Repiton, while setting up the idea of what major actions are needed to enter The Game and what importance the cast will hold in the future.

  • The perspective changes to PO, introduced as Taz. Just Taz.

  • Albion tells her that she’ll be the one to save her and her friends and that the world is ending, which Taz accepts. She then ends the conversation and calls out to her lusus, ready to merge with it.
  • The Star Guardian, Albion’s lusus, tells her that their planet was meant for destruction and not for salvation.
  • The perspective changes to GD, who is introduced as Dismas Mersiv.
  • Dismas receives a message from his «partner-in-crime», which happens to be UK, who tells him to need to go outside and tonight was important as UK tries to save his friends from an impending doom and bring the Game into light.
  • Dismas encounters one of UK’s remote surveillance robots, Boobdrone, and is underwhelmed by it.
  • Dismas still doesn’t believe in UK until he points out to the sky, a falling meteor heading to the planet.

  • UK is introduced as Murrit Turkin.
  • Murrit fondly regards of his past self.
  • The narrator vaguely mentions the concept of Quadrants, which depicts four types of romance with their own symbol as it follows:
    • Matespritships/Flushed Quadrant ( )
    • Moirallegiances/Pale Quadrant ( <> )
    • Kismesissitudes/Caliginous Quadrant ( )
    • Auspisticisms/Ashen Quadrant ( c3 )

  • Albion receives a message from SA.
  • Albion is then thrust back into her vision with her lusus and demands an explanation.
  • An unknown person possessed Albion’s body and messages Dismas, who apparently retreated in a nearby hideaway by the waterfall and wasn’t aware of Albion being possessed.
  • The unknown person warns Dismas to not «follow credence of the man who spins words like yarn» and to stop «the limeblooded vessel to his heart», leaving Dismas deeply confused and concerned for his friend.
  • The perspective switches back to Murrit, who ventures to the Frog Temple and appears to be bloodied as a result of the traps he set beforehand.
  • Murrit approaches the temple’s time capsule flower and waits for it to open
  • Murrit receives a message from Laivan, who’s concerned for Albion after receiving a panicked messages from her.

  • He dismisses the memo and Taz forces him to look out his window and look at the meteor hurtling towards his hive.
  • Arcjec begrudgingly agrees to work with Taz and the two of them begin working to unravel the secrets of The Game.
  • Arcjec realizes the symbols he has been writing in his sleep since he was young are connected to the game and begins inputting them.
  • The television, still on Arcjec’s perspective, suddenly glitches as the unknown narrator speaks up.
  • The glitching stops, as Arcjec and Taz inputs their own set of codes in the game window.
  • Arcjec prints out the numeric codes.
  • Arcjec grabs his scythe and allocates it as his strife specibus. He too then takes the book on top of his thermal hull and captchalogues it in his Replica Modus.
  • Arcjec and Taz bickers once again and this time, it’s about their past.
  • The narrator vaguely states the fate of the twelve main trolls.
  • The end of Act 1 encompasses a flash animation.

Laivan Ferroo

Knight of Space

Does not use periods, suffixes every message with «-«.

Laivan Ferroo, also known by his Skorpe handle, windlessArtificer , is one of the trolls in Vast Error. His associated alchemic sigil is Zinc and his horns resemble dog ears. He is a deconstruction of the «furry» and «unoriginal» fantroll archetypes.

He was the sixth troll introduced and the final troll properly introduced in Act 1. As a Space player, he is one of the two players meant to usher The Game to its players along with the session’s Time player.

He was the third troll to enter the game.

Biography

Six Sweeps

Laivan used to play SBVRPRPG tournament games with Calder and Arcjec, and they all used to be good friends. This stopped after Arcjec started to become more depressed and distant.

At some point, Laivan met and accidentally shot Serpaz in the leg during a hunting trip. This encounter would leave Serpaz permanently disabled and reliant on a leg brace, but would also lead the two to form a strong matespritship.

It was around this time that Laivan met and made a deal with White Noise with the condition that he will return at a later date and fulfill an obligation for him. Upon making this deal, Laivan awoke on the moon of Prospit and became a well-recognized figure on the moon. Eventually spending his nights getting newspapers to give to Arcjec upon his awakening so he isn’t left in the dark about the dream planet.

Pre-Game

On the night of the game, Laivan spends much of his time goofing around and playing Anthropormuncipality with Murrit. He messages Arcjec, asking him if he wants to join in as well, which Arcjec declines. During their game, Murrit wanders off to mess with Dismas and prepare him for the coming night, before going off to the Frog Temple next to his hive to observe the Nightshade within it. Before he leaves, Murrit makes a memo regarding the game and includes everyone (except Ellsee) in it.

Meanwhile, Laivan takes a nap, waking up on Prospit, as he’s done ever since he made a contract with White Noise. He visits Arcjec, who has yet to wake up. He delivers another Prospitian newspaper to Arcjec’s dreamself, in hopes that once he wakes up, he can easily be caught up on being a Prospit dreamer. Laivan quietly wishes that Arcjec had woken up sooner, wondering if he might have been a happier person if he did. As he gives a reassuring pap to Arcjec’s dreamself, the dreamself glitches out briefly, momentarily turning into his younger, less-depressed self. Laivan is freaked out by this.

He is then intercepted by White Noise and taken into The Static. The two speak for a time and reflect on the purpose of the game and its existence, and how the trolls are destined to play it but are ultimately destined to fail to meet its purpose. Noise notes that their destined failure does not necessarily mean they will be faced with inevitable defeat. They also reflect on why Laivan took Noise’s deal, with Laivan simply stating that the deal would give him a purpose. White Noise then gives Laivan the essence of his soul: a medallion with the Green Sun contained within, telling him that he must return it to its source for the sake of the perpetuation of reality. As Laivan puts on the Green Sun medallion, he finds himself unable to breathe, and White Noise uses his abilities to send Laivan away.

Laivan is then awoken by his dog lusus: Mutt. After making sure he still has the medallion, he answers a message from his matesprit: Serpaz Helilo. The two lovers discuss Murrit’s plans for the night and the fact that it happened to be their anniversary. Serpaz light-heartedly brings up how she and Laivan first met when he accidentally shot her in the leg and left her with a permanent handicap, which makes Laivan visibly uncomfortable, despite Serpaz not being mad about the accident anymore. When the conversation ends, Laivan goes to find some glue to fix his dog’s toy. As he is away from his desk, he receives a set of panicked messages from Albion, who had recently learned a distressing truth from her lusus.

When Laivan returns, he is unable to get a hold of Albion, and messages Murrit instead, voicing his concern for Albion’s well-being and letting Murrit know he met with White Noise. After the Nightshade opens, which leads to the installation of The Game on everyone’s computers. Laivan and Murrit play more Anthropomunicipality in celebration and do a fake high five.

After Arcjec enters the game, Laivan is seen helping Taz with her entry. The two struggled to find Taz’s code set of codes while Laivan continues to play more Anthropomunicipality with Murrit, which infuriates Taz. The two are abruptly pulled into a memo made by Ellsee, who wishes to share her own knowledge of the game in response to being excluded from Murrit’s. Laivan is grateful for the prospect of help, but Taz behaves incredulously when she sees that Laivan wasting time with banter. When Taz leaves the memo in a huff, he chides her for burning bridges when they could have used the help. Suddenly, when Taz’s back is turned, Taz’s lusus succumbs to her natural instincts and jumps into the black ocean depths that neighbor Taz’s hive. The large mink monster is very swiftly eaten alive by the deadly fauna below, and its blood reveals the location of Taz’s code: in the rocks at the edge of the cliff, hidden by the murky black water. As Taz goes into a grief-driven rage, Laivan asks if Taz is okay, and Taz makes it clear that she does not want to talk about it and that they should move on.

Taz and Laivan make quick work of the entry process, and when it comes time for Taz to unleash her denizen, she has Laivan to put the rusted and locked cage, her Paragon Repository, in her Torture Fort so that she can go against it on her own terms. Despite trying everything in her power to destroy the cage, as it has a lock with no key, she is forced to ask Laivan for help to fetch her Ferocity Weaver which she left outside in the rush. Laivan obliges and gives it to her, and Taz uses it to channel the full power of her rage and chucklevoodoo to destroy the cage and unleash her denizen. The release of her frustrations on the cage calms Taz back down in the process. The denizen quickly enters the portal and Taz follows suit.

After Taz’s entry, Laivan begins preparing for his own, with Murrit as his server player. Laivan questions why Murrit left Ellsee’s memo, clearly upset about how poorly she is treated. Murrit doesn’t provide an answer, only telling Laivan that he has his reasons and he should trust him. Murrit then begins the entry process.

During the game

After Laivan entered The Game, he spoke to the denizen of Space, Haniel, about his life and asked Haniel about whether or not they know about White Noise. After the conversation, the Land of Construct and Deluge was formed as Haniel prompts Laivan to follow them. As they explore the planet, they came across a temple wherein The Cauldron was located and Haniel vaguely explained its true purpose to the Game.

Personality and traits

Laivan is a passive but sociable troll who seems to get along with just about anyone. He is generally very laid back and is somewhat easily distracted. Among Laivan’s interests are sharpshooting, taxidermy, playing video games and dogs. If trolls had a concept of furries, Laivan would be one, due to his love and frequent association with dog-like creatures. This further established by his love of drawing original characters based on dogs, he has two as far as we know; one named Figment and one named Abel.

Having a severe lung condition after a malfunction in his artificial birthing process, Laivan’s capabilities and choices with what he does in life are inherently limited. However, this doesn’t appear to bother him much and makes due with the help of his friends and his beloved dog-lusus, Mutt.

At some point in his youth, Laivan made a deal with White Noise to fulfill some sort of obligation related to the perpetuation of reality. In matters related to these obligations, Laivan tends to take things much more seriously but also gets somewhat impatient. In his conversation with White Noise, Laivan admits that he doesn’t really know what he wants out of life and that he largely took White Noise’s deal out of a desire for purpose. In the same conversation, Noise characterizes Laivan as pragmatic, caring and constantly listless.

Relationships

Serpaz Helilo

Laivan and Serpaz are matesprits and appear to be as close as two can be. The two met two sweeps prior to the night of The Game when Laivan accidentally shot Serpaz in the leg during a hunting excursion, which left Serpaz permanently unable to use that leg without a cane or brace. Apparently, they fell in love within the night due to this accident, the absurdity of which is something that does not elude them. Serpaz is evidentially more comfortable with making light of the accident than Laivan is, for obvious reasons.

Arcjec Voorat

Laivan isn’t bothered by Arcjec’s cantankerous personality and sardonic demeanor but considers him to be a generally sad person. The two appear to be good friends and their relationship appears to be one of Arcjec’s least tumultuous ones. They potentially share some sort of deeper connection, as Laivan frequently visits Arcjec’s sleeping dreamself on Prospit and Arcjec’s pants match Laivan’s blood color.

Murrit Turkin

Murrit is one of Laivan’s closest friends, with the two sharing a passion for Anthropormuncipality and a destiny in leading everyone to play the game they recovered from the Frog Temple. Laivan is one of the few trolls who aren’t put off by Murrit’s bizarre quirks and even jokingly calls him out on it. Murrit is often more honest around Laivan in turn and does not seem to harass him as harshly as some others, even though he isn’t free from it either.

Sovara Amalie

Sova is an old friend of Laivan and Serpaz, but they seem to have fallen out of touch with her prior to the events of the Game. The couple appears to be quite fond of and protective of Sova, apparently having saved her from something in the past and possibly made her a place to stay.

Albion Shukra

Although their relationship has not been elaborated on, Albion and Laivan appear to be on good terms and do message one another enough to where Albion feels comfortable in asking Laivan for help. He is visibly worried when she messages him in a panic and he is unable to get a response afterward.

Ellsee Raines

Laivan and Ellsee are longtime friends, and the two are on amicable terms. Laivan is very upset when people mistreat her and belittle her, and is willing to come to her defense when others put her down or ignore her.

Occeus Coliad

Laivan and Occeus are work colleagues; Laivan stitches up corpses that Occeus finds for the sake of his revitalization experiments.

Taz does not enjoy speaking to Laivan very much due to their naturally opposite personalities. She is put off by his simple demeanor and nonchalance, finding it frustrating especially when his attention is away from the subject at hand. She compares talking to him to talking to a brick wall.

Laivan seems to be more or less neutral towards Taz despite not having the words to describe her, but isn’t above getting frustrated with her when she is being unreasonable, as most people are.

Calder Kerian

Calder and Laivan were once friends in their youth, but that doesn’t appear to be the case anymore.

White Noise

White Noise appears to have a fatherly affinity for Laivan. White Noise tries to provide guidance and support to the young troll and has stated that Laivan and his friends are capable of much more than he might believe. Laivan appears to be comfortable with him and clearly respects his guidance, although he does think he rambles on too much.

The two have made a deal, the conditions of which leave White Noise beholden to serve and assist Laivan, while Laivan promises to help bring about The Game and care for the propagation of reality. This deal is what allowed Laivan to awaken on Prospit.
