Ebios error read error

Hey Guys,

This forum helped me a lot throughout my entire hackintosh experience and I gave back as much as I could with tutorials etc.

My Hackintosh was working like a charm during the last year. I was working on some very important projects when suddenly I had a Kernel Panic (Nothing new, I got some in the past year and I just did a restart) but this time after I did the restart I got the following error message: «EBIOS read error: Device Timeout» Block 0x****** etc.

Now just so you know I have an Asus P6T se with 6 Harddrives connected. I searched the entire internet but the only solutions were unplug external drives or usb, set to ahci etc but I did ALL those things. Booted with every parameter possible but I still get the error. I am really afraid that my harddrives are damaged because Windows boots normally and all the drives (except the boot drive with mac os x on it) shows that they’re damaged. But it can’t be! I have all my work on there (3 Harddrives with backups, all corrupt??)

Can anyone help me?

If you have a DVD/CD-RW, try disconnecting it. Or remove it from the device boot list in BIOS.

You may want to try the RBoot 1.2 from the downloads section and make a cd of that —
You should be able to boot up from that cd and be into a single user kernel —

On the screen you should see some text — I used to know it but I have CRS ( Cant Remember stuff)

On the screen you will be given some command prompts to enter to make the drive write enable — the default is read only
Also you should see the command to run a fschk — file system check — this should be run in read 1st then if it tells you you have errors do it in
write mode — you will have to enable that w a command.
Then run the command to do the fsck again on the boot drive — and see if you get errors — if so it will state what they are — in kriptic code no less — and then ask if you want to correct it — of course you do.

Run the fsck untill you come up clean — no errors — then do a reboot or shutdown command from the prompt ( not sure which) and see it this fix’s you problem

Did this work? I have the same problem with one out of 5 drives I have.

Not sure what the problem was, but I replaced that drive and have had no problems since.

Good to know … random halts like this are a real bummer !!!!

I found this link which has similar information to what you said — but make a good read as it discovers issues w Partition Maps on HD that have gone south —

Again it down to removing SATA cables — reboot — retest till you can get into the MAC OSX —
Also dont just think its only your Hack drives — this can be cause by NTFS volumes as well — even if its not the Windows boot disk.

If your hard drive has more that two partitions and the offending partition causing the timeout error which it appears to be — their are some Stand alone Linux distro that will check a NTFS partition and fix the issues. As for the HFS volume you could use iBoot and the Apple DVD — select disk utilities and rucn a check on that volume an well as fix permisions

I ran into this problem and it turns out my issue was I had the install dvd in the secondary cdrom drive instead of the primary. Once I put the DVD in the first drive, the issue went away.

Anyone got any ideas on this please?

Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply

ask a new question.

My Macbookpro will not start coming up with EBIOS read error: Error 0xbb block 0x142bc sector 0. The same happens while trying to start with CD. After 4 time nothing happens at all. Internet recovery produces an error (non of the options worked even I have backups) and suggests to start the application again. Can somebody tell me what is going on. By the way an update of the firmware 1.7 was waiting — but I did not say update. Did it happen anyway and is causing problems. Any suggestions?

Installing OSX Yosemite on Proxmox V4.0-50 — Ebios Read Error

hi all,
i’m trying to boot OSX Yosemite on proxmox V4.0-50 but can’t make it start.. (Proc : intel Xeon 64Bits)
here’s what i’ve done so far.

Files on Proxmox Host :
— OSX Yosemite installer.iso (converted from Official installer app)
— Bootloader chameleon_2757_boot

To set this up i used the great tutorials provided by will evans and by gabriel Somlo
I see the iso selected by the bootloader

but here’s is the error message i get in verbose Mode after i press «Enter»..

Il already did echo 1 > /sys/module/kvm/parameters/ ignore_msrs but it didn’t changed anything..

I’m perfecting my 2nd Hackintosh; the Mattintosh 2 (see signature for specs).

I have a few nagging issues that I can’t seem to fix, and I figure it’s best to start with the first ones that pop up, and maybe when they get fixed, some or all of the others down the line will get fixed too. Here’s what I’m seeing on startup, immediately following the ASRock boot screen:

With RC1 I get sixteen repeating sets of `EBIOS read error: Error 0x01′ and `Block -1364952312 Sectors 64′ lines before the Chameleon countdown timer. If I then press a key during the countdown timer I get eight sets of `EBIOS read error: Error 0x01′ and `Block -1364952310 Sectors 64′ lines, eight sets of `EBIOS read error: Error 0x01′ and `Block -1364950248 Sectors 64′ lines, and four sets of `EBIOS read error: Error 0x01′ and `Block -13649550224 Sectors 64′ lines before it freezes.

At least with RC1 it can boot, but with RC2 the Chameleon countdown timer never shows, and it goes through all thirty six sets of ebios error lines before it freezes.

This seems to be related to libsaio’s sys.c inability to cope with the Seagate 1.5TB drive, and fdisk reports negative geometry as well;

I too have the exact same error, two 1.5TB Seagate SATA drives in mirrored RAID. Same behaviour in RC1 and RC2 as the post above. If I format the drives to individual drives, then no errors occur.

Need to check how the booter handles the int 13h EBIOS read calls, but unfortunately i don’t have such large disks to test it.

Zef, I could run a debug version of the booter against the drives if you could supply one as source or binary.

The problematic Seagate drives have the fixed CC1H BIOS that seemingly has resolved the Solaris issue, but not the Chameleon one.
MB is a Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5 with the current F7 non beta BIOS, and the drives are attached to the ICH10R SB in AHCI mode.
The Intel RAID 0 is CCC’d to Seagate RAID 1 `backup’, and configured to boot with Chameleon 2.
Seagate RAID 1 `storage’ doesn’t have an OS, and is not configured with Chameleon 2.

One Seagate drive was originally attached via USB in a non RAID configuration to an OS X and Chameleon 2 Lenovo T61.
It didn’t have any boot errors, and I was able to select it in the Chameleon 2 GUI, but I wasn’t able to actually boot from it unless I was doing so from a Kalyway DVD.

Correction: I wasn’t able to boot from a single external Seagate 1.5TB with a Kalyway DVD, I was using an external 100GB drive instead.

Add me to the list of people with the ebios read error problem. 3 Samsung 1.5 TB drives mirrored on Apple software raid. Chameleon will not boot after the error — had to go back to efi v9 1.0.12.

As a work-around, I’ve been manually disconnecting the apple software raid with my 3 samsung 1.5TB drives and then re-connecting them after chameleon starts …

Noticed that the volume Apple Software raid creates is Apple_HFS format vs GUID or MBR — Wonder if this has anything to do with the problem or whether it might offer a work around that’s compatible w Chameleon … ?

What do you mean HFS vs. GUID or MBR?

HFS is a file system, GUID and MBR are partition types.

Just got this problem myself. Weird, all of a sudden, after a day or so of having the raid, this problem started happening. Is there a way to create the HSF+ raid without the 3 partitions that OSX creates? I believe that the problem may be one of partitioning.

I have figured out a (temporary, I hope) solution to this problem. Edit your com.apple.Boot.plist file and set a new key/value pair Scan Single Drive — YES
This is using Chameleon 2 rc 2 r640. I don’t know if any previous versions allow this.

The above solution works but we’re limited to one drive. Anyone know of a way (the syntax) to exclude scanning the problematic drives while still including all other drives …?

I think it would be better to fix the issue instead adding such options to exclude specific drives.
At the moment i don’t have access for such large disks…

I have the same issue with my Seagate 500 gb drive, it is formated ntfs and if I unplug it chameleon works normally. This issue occurs when using both chameleon 2 rc1 and rc2. Hope there will be a fix soon…

hi all,
i’m trying to boot OSX Yosemite on proxmox V4.0-50 but can’t make it start.. (Proc : intel Xeon 64Bits)
here’s what i’ve done so far.

Files on Proxmox Host :
— OSX Yosemite installer.iso (converted from Official installer app)
— Bootloader chameleon_2757_boot

To set this up i used the great tutorials provided by will evans and by gabriel Somlo
I see the iso selected by the bootloader

but here’s is the error message i get in verbose Mode after i press «Enter»..

At first I had a hard time installing OS X, so I installed it in a VM on a Mac with VMware Fusion. Then I copied the vm disk on Proxmox server. Maybe I could have installed it through Proxmox but I had forgetten that I needed to run this to make OS X boot:
