You say «Epson» was no help — are you referring to Epson Pro Graphics support? They should certainly be able to tell you specifically what an error code means.

It’s kind of like the latest chewing gum commercial…

Epson thinks you’ve had this printer long enough and it is time to buy another.

I did talk to a Epson printer support person, but I’m not sure if it was an Epson Pro Graphic, person. But the only thing they had to say was to take it to a service center.

I did ask them what the 150 C error was for? and only got the, need to take it to a service center reply.

It was the dallas,tx. autorized service center that looked it up and told me that it looks like its a platten? error.

I was just putting this thread out there to see if anyone else has had the Error.

OH, by the way, love you 3800 site….. your the man! Mr. Chan

Every time I turn it on.

It pops up as FATAL ERROR 150C / Service Required, or something like that.

I must say it was a little daunting seeing FATAL ERROR pop up on the screen the first time it happened when I hit the print button :o.

But if I turn it off and unplug it the restart the 3800. I can get it going again.

Sometime on the 1st try.

And if that does not work I do the Tried and True, Windows Restart.

Now I’m not convinced that my prints may not be coming out just rite.

But let me plug David at : Levi Systems, INC.

Dallas, TX.

for his help in this matter. When I get it repaired they will get my buisness.

Sorry to through Epson Support, under the bus. But they just were not any help

even after I tried a little,,,,, Come On Man, Can’t You Help Me Out On This?

I have an Epson 3880. My research on line basically says it’s not worth trying to fix; buy a new printer. The work around is just to keep turning it off and on until it works — may take several tries (this is what I do). 150C is a platten error; I have seen suggestions that the platen can be adjusted via the printer menu (printer setup) but I have not tried this.

Epson’s fix is to replace the APG motor or Sensor which requires tearing the printer apart.

I am having the same problem with my 3880. An error 150C. I returned my printer to Epson only for them to exchange it with one with the same problem. Now I have a nice $1200 paper weight. I would like to be able to fix it myself. Thanks for the post. It has been informative.

Re: Service error 150 C on my Epson 3800

Keep posting this line, and folks just ignore it and shell out megabucks that they do not need to………

At 2. 1/2 years this is an unreasonable product failure. The printer is «NOT fit for the purpose intended» it is therefore the responsibility of Epson to fix it.

THE ONLY TEST AT LAW is Does a consumer have an issue with a product that is REASONABLE. In other words is this an EXPECTED failure…..yes/no….If NO then Epson fix or replace…..

You just have to provide the determination and drive to get that result. Epson know this as does every Manufacturer and they rely on you and all of us ‘giving up’ before starting. No lifetime crusade required here.

eg. Telco has a policy that ALL invoices HAVE to be paid before 180 days……Knowing that sent a valid invoice for repairs……….the proverbial hit the fan cos it got escalated to executive (with assistance) and the local press (with assistance) and consumer watchdog (with assistance) result…………….FIXED!!

No money no quick fix just guts and determination and finding the chink, they all have one hidden somewhere!!!!!

Cheers

    Epson printer 3880 error 150c

Don’t know if this was posted or not. If anyone purchases an Epson 3880 printer and it displays an error message “150C” call Epson Tech within the 30 days from the purchased date to receive a new printer. Past the 30 day mark they will only send a refurbished printer and yes with new 80ml inks. I talked to the tech on Monday about 3:30pm and I received my printer on Tuesday at 10am the next day.
    Nice.

Re: Epson printer 3880 error 150c

I had the same experience. The problem was sporadic, so I didn’t take it too seriously, and the 30 day period lapsed. Finally an epson tech hinted that I should just replace the thing. I was hesitant, because it had been a good printer, and had clogged lightly just once or twice in the few months I’d had it—a record for me.

At any rate, I’m glad I got the refurb. No more error, the new printer prints identically to the original, and I’ve gone months without a single clog. And then there’s the matter of all the free ink.

It feels very different being an Epson pro printer customer than it did being an Epson chump printer customer. The company’s making up for the many years it abused me.

I just had the same problem after the printer had been sitting for about 3 weeks. Epson said it is a platen gap sensor error. The tech suggested that I open and close the front feed tray, which sets a different gap. That cleared up the problem, but I still started a trouble ticket with them, just to have it on record.

My 3880 wasn’t used for a month or so & when I went to print last evening I received the above message. Printer is still under warranty until 11/13. This printers document count is only 144. Did a web search & found a thread over on DPreview site where others have had this error and it seems the only solution is to have the printer serviced. From what I read it seems this error is fatal & Epson will typically send a refurbished unit for exchange. Anyone else here encountered this? Any home remedies? Care to share your experience or tips regarding Epson service? Appreciate any help or insights before I call Epson on Monday.

Thanks.  Ed

100% agree with you EJ. I might have used better wording in looking for a known fix. Last thing I would do is jeopardize the warranty.

Ed,

I am on my third 3880 because of this problem, it seems to be the a fairly common issue with this printer. I had two printers replaced under warranty with the problem and my current printer has started showing this error, but I can clear it every time by turning the printer on and off several times. This can be a real pain if it takes 4 or 5 power cycles as it takes several minutes each time the printer is powered up. Because of this I purchased the 3 year extended warranty so I will most likely exchange by current printer shortly also.

Try powering the printer on and off several times and it may clear the error, but by guess it will continue to show this error. I would also recommend exchanging the printer. Epson USA will overnight you a printer and then you put your current printer in the box and return.

Good Luck,

Roy

Thanks Roy — followed your advise with turning it on & off a few times & the error has not returned. Printed several images & the output is perfect. I’m still concerned the error may return so I’ll keep an eye on it for a couple weeks then decide next steps (warranty is up in November). Seems it’s not a good idea to let these printers sit for an extended period. When the 3880 acted up I pulled out my old 2200, ran a clean cycle twice & it printed like new after sitting since November. Ed

Just to close this out I spoke with Epson & they overnighted a refurb replacement for my printer, complete with a new ink set. They provided everything to send my original printer back to them that included free shipping. The first printer I received did have a broken front feed & when I called Epson they said they would overnight another printer & for my inconvenience keep the new ink set. The 2nd replacement arrived in good working order with another complete ink set.

My kudos to Epson customer service.

Ed,

That has been the same experience I have had with replacing my previous 3880’s because of this problem. I also received a refurbished unit in bad condition and call them and told them I wouldn’t accept the printer and they had no issues with replacement and had me keep the ink set, in fact I still have two free complete sets of ink waiting to be used because of issues with replacement printers.

Unfortunately now awaiting the 4th replacement as the 3rd refurb unit also had a failure. This is really a pain!

The 2nd refurb started failing to print photo black when switching back from matte paper. Ran though the diagnostics with Epson & determined they need to send out another replacement (3rd refurb — 4th 3880). I only have 12 days left on the warranty & am considering warranty extension options. It really stews me that I have to wage the bet that the new replacement will also fail but this is what my experience is dictating with the 3880. Apparently no amount of discussions through escalating within Epson customer service will convince them to bend on their policy of only providing a new printer for those that are within a 30 day period from original purchase.

I was planning on purchasing the 3880 in the near future, but these types of stories are giving me second thoughts.  It’s not just the fact that the original printer failed, but that Epson is replacing them with refurbished units that are either broken out of the box or fail soon after.

This is not at all the norm.  The VAST majority of users have had 3800 and 3880 printers that are completely trouble free for many years!

The 3800 / 3880 printer has indeed been a workhorse for most folks. Unfortunately, it does seem that some of them are plagued with problems, and getting into the Epson refurb replacement merry-go-round can be just as big a problem in its own right.

I’m sorry to say that my 3880 purchased new, earlier this year, is now throwing a lot of 150C service errors. It started last week. It’s under warranty still, but clearly I’m not eager to get into an endless round of bad refurbs. So I’m still trying to decide what I want to do about it. For now, I’m able to clear the 150C errors after several power cycles, but if it the situation deteriorates that won’t be acceptable for long…

That’s reassuring.  But the fact that Epson is sending out faulty refurbished printers as replacements is inexecusable.  A refurbished product should go through a particularly thorough QC procedure.  It sounds like that is not happening, and the fact that it’s not is an example of bad customer service.
