Error Codes
SteamCMD
SteamCMD can sometimes output errors when something goes wrong. Sadly Valve has never released an official list of what the error messages mean. Because of this, a lot of guesswork has been needed to figure it out. This page will highlight what we already know and info on researching what the error might mean in the hope that you can contribute to understanding SteamCMD errors.
SteamCMD uses hexadecimal numbers to give its current «state». Every time SteamCMD does something it changes its state. When SteamCMD fails it will output its has hexadecimal state, for example 0x202
.

Seems to affect HLDS based servers. Running again often fixes the issue

Error 0x606
SteamCMD is unable to write to the disk. Normally caused by permissions issues. This issue was discovered when a directory that was linked using symlink did not have the correct permissions to allow SteamCMD to write to it.

SteamCMD Logs
To get more info and output see the SteamCMD logs in ~/.local/share/Steam/logs
or ~/.steam/logs
. The most useful log is content_log.txt
that will provide more information on errors.

SteamCMD Hex Codes
SteamCMD uses hex error codes such as 0x202
which can be converted into decimal 514
. You can use a hex-to-decimal converter to do this. Using the table below you can work out the status messages. By doing a calculation. Find the highest number below the state 512
which is the first error. Then take the number away from the total 514-512=2
which gives you the last error. This can be done for any error

ulimit SteamCMD startup error
./steamcmd.sh: line 17: ulimit: open files: cannot modify limit: Operation not permitted
Some users may get a ulimit error (no permission/cannot open file) while SteamCMD is starting up. This error caused by a low setting of the -n parameter (number of file descriptors) of ulimit. Some servers forbid increasing ulimit values after startup (or beyond a limit set by root). This can be fixed by changing the file descriptor number ulimit:
ERROR! Failed to install app ‘<appid_number>’ (No subscription)
The Steam account being used does not have a license for the required game.
ERROR! Password check for AppId <appid_number> returned error Failure.
The password for the branch is incorrect.
[S_API FAIL] SteamAPI_Init() failed; SteamAPI_IsSteamRunning() failed.
Ignore the error, do not do anything to attempt to fix it. It is a known error that has appeared ever since SteamPipe was introduced. It does not cause any issues and can be ignored.

После последнего обновления сервера не запускаются. Удаляются все
файлы
из папки csgo и в корне srcds_linux, srcds.exe и еще мои личные а потом ругается что ничего нет. Обнова идет по кругу —

Так же нашел что новые файлы скачиваются по пути в /steamapps/downloading/740 и оттуда уже никуда не уходят
С правами все ок, ничего не изменялось уже пол года и стабильно обновлялось. Пробовал вручную перетянуть новые файлы на сервер, но сам сервер их удаляет и заново скачивает в steamapps/downloading/740
Второй день пытаюсь что-то сделать. Уже новый сервер заливал, все равно такая же дичь. Может кто знает в чем проблема и как ее решить?
Как я понял главная проблема — это «Error! App ‘740’ state is 0x602 after update job.»
Выделенный сервер; 153GB свободного места на диске

В какой-то момент все заработало. Решил перезагрузить сервер и снова все удалилось и не может заново скачать

Спасибо, я умею гуглить)
Сеть я проверял, стабильная. Это даже видно по логу скачивания csgo, что каждую секунду стабильно получаю пакеты
А еще в какой-то момент все загрузилось, но после рестарта начало заново удалять/загружать

Сеть — штука такая, что уверенности в ней никогда не может быть.

на нем работает nginx и с 2019 все работало стабильно

Просто обновление сервера идет полное, ну типа весь левый срач удаляется, остается только срач от вульвы. =)
У меня с обновкой все норм. 2 выделенных тачки, без проблем обновляются, моды работают.

У нас вчера на одной ноде была подобная проблема, помогло удаления всего в папке steamapps и обновления с -validate.

Вот решение моей проблемы:
я заблокировал от записи srcds_run (по понятным причинам) и из за этого сервер пытался пересоздать себя
я скачал новый сервер, протестировал на рестарт раз 10, залил файлы сервера (SM, MM и т.д.) и все было ок, не удаляло ничего само. Как только я использовал chattr +i для srcds_run, то с первым рестартом оно начало удалять все подряд и заново скачивать
короче пацаны, не балуйтесь с chattr

При загрузки CS:GO, выдает ошибку:

А разница? validate — это проверка целостности приложения.
Проблема решена.
Решение:
Нужно отключить брандмауэр
service iptables stop && chkconfig iptables off

А может правила не нужно добавлять какие попало? Потому что с фаерволом никогда таких проблем не было.

Вообщем проблема связана с загруженностью серверов стим.

Вообщем проблема связана с загруженностью серверов стим.
Попробовал рано утром и всё как по маслу встало. Ничего с файрволом делать не нужно и правил (тем более когда не знаешь, что они делают) никаких писать не нужно.
Та же проблема , но уже с установкой css
Никаких правил и запретов iptables нет . Всё с 0
Установила нужные библиотеки и всё.
Ставила сервер css на других хостингах много раз и всегда это занимало считанные минуты, решила поставить сервер на myarena , долбаюсь второй день .
Вот что ответила тех.поддержка через 5 часов
Введите:
wget https://steamcdn-a.a…md_linux.tar.gz —no-check-certificate
вместо:
wget https://steamcdn-a.a…md_linux.tar.gz
Но даже после того как скачала и запустила steam cmd войти не удалось ни под anonymous , ни под своим логином -паролем .Пишет :
opensslconnection.cpp (1490) : Assertion Failed : unableto load trusted SSL root certificate
Кто то сталкивался с таким вот на vds myarena ?
PS.Решение нашла. Может кому то пригодится :
apt-get install —reinstall ca-certificates

This little project took me about 25 hours, because of a lot of debugging and very little documentation for error messages regarding eBot. With this tutorial I will hopefully help someone else (and future me) to do this in 1-2 hours instead 🙂
My setup
- Ubuntu 16.04 running as a VM in ESXi 6
- eBot v3.1
My local IP for the server is 192.168.2.101. Remember to change it with your own server IP. Most of this guide also uses default config, and has not been optimized.
I also recommend to read the sources I have added, as they helped me a lot, so all credits to them. They could also help you if I forgot something in this article.

Update 24.10.2016: I recorded a video with installing Ubuntu, CS:GO server (with LGSM) and eBot.
Install Ubuntu
I will not include install of Ubuntu in this tutorial. I just installed a default Ubuntu server with SSH server and LAMP package.
Ubuntu and CS takes about 18 GB, so make sure to allocate enough space for future updates and logs.
Prepare
If you are using a template server or something from a hosting company, you are probably are connected with SSH already. If so, just jump to «Update» before installing CS:GO.
I usually like to change the SSH port for some extra security, and allow root login to make it more simple.
sudo vi /etc/ssh/sshd_config
change:
Port 41144
PermitRootLogin yes
(WARNING: Allow root login is not best practice, but I like to have full and easy access when testing and debugging:-) PermitRootLogin should only be enabled in the setup-process, demo environment or home/private network…)
Set a password for root-user
sudo passwd root
*Set password for root*
Restart SSH service
sudo service ssh restart
Find IP-address
Ifconfig
Now connect with SSH (putty?).
Firewall
I disabled my firewall to prevent any problems with blocked ports, do NOT do this on a public server. See documentation to open ports. You should most likely open port 27015 for CS (if using default) and 12360 for eBot (can be changed in config).

Make sure server is up to date

Install Counter Strike: GO dedicated server
Update 25.10.2016: The guide below shows how to install a CS:GO server from scratch (to original way). In my last setups I have started to use Linux Game Server Managers (LGSM) instead. You can look at it here: https://gameservermanagers.com/. I also use LGSM in my video-tutorial at the top of the article. If you use LGSM to install the server, you can just jump to the eBot part after the server is up and running.

Prepare

Now you should be running the steamcmd, you should see «Steam>» when entering the command.

Solution: Ran out of diskspace on server. I was working on a VirtualMachine, so I just booted from Ubuntu Desktop Live CD, started gparted and expanded the disk. Just Google if you need to do this.

Create a service

If you are putting the server on the Internet (not LAN), you need to request the GSLT key from Steam, on the Game Server Account Management. I used the app-ID 730 for CS:GO, but installed app-ID 740 above, I’m not sure if there is a difference, but it worked for me.
You can find the command line options on this page. You should configure the start parameters for your own needs. The example below is copied from the tutorial in sources and are missing IP that can give an eBot error. I have included my working config at the end.

eBot has three parts:
The bot
Collects data from the game and communicate with RCON.
Panel / Website
Web-page – allows you to create matches, control them and see stats.
Gameserver / addon
CSay and allows eBot to communicate in the in-game chat.
Installing eBot

I assume you have installed the LAMP package (apache2, MySQL and PHP) when you installed the server. If not, you have to install apache2 and MySQL by yourself (Google it or see this guide for eBot).
PHP in the other hand, we actually should remove – because we need a lower version and we need to compile in pthreads. I didn’t want to take the chance of removing my php packages, as there is no direct uninstaller – so I just installed the old PHP over the previous one with the steps below.
Compile and install PHP

If using Ubuntu 16 as me, you probably need to write apt-get install nodejs-legacy and apt-get install npm. You would most likely get an error for the nodejs package.

The steps above are critical to get eBot to communicate over socket.io. Please check the feedback to see that everything was installed OK. I had some problems with nodejs and npm while using the tutorial i followed.

Adding www-data group to the /home/ebot/ebot-web/ is important, if not, the apache can’t access the webpage files and you will get a forbidden error.
I’m not used to the chown-syntax above, so I used chown -R user:www-data /home/ebot/ebot-web/, where you set user to root or the user you created on install.
If the php sumfony steps fail, you will not be able to login on the eBot webpage.
Config apache

(I tried to set alias to /ebot istead of just /, but it looks like the web-path is hard-coded somewhere, giving a load error for images and files in the browsers console.)

You should now be able to open the eBot webpage and log in. You will probably get a socket error or something before you run eBot (next step).

Install CSay addon to CS server
I recommend going to http://www.esport-tools.net/ebot/requirements, and click on the green label CS:GO under Gameserver part – to download it.

- Download CSay addon to your computer
- Extract the .zip file
- Upload the «addon» folder under /home/steam/csgo/csgo/ on your server.
I used WinSCP to upload the files.
The addon folder probably doesn’t exist in /home/steam/csgo/csgo/ before you upload it.
It should be loaded automatically, but recommend to write «service csgo restart» or restart the server.
The reason for allowing root login at the start of this article, is to get full access with WinSCP. If you don’t have access to upload the folder, you need to change the user in SSH with chown.
Run eBot
php /home/ebot/ebot-csgo/bootstrap.php
If you started the service you created above, the eBot should be running. But by running the bootstrap.php, you will get a log of what is happening.

The first time I got error on MySQL and pthreads. The PHP version was also PHP 7 and is not working with eBot at the moment.
After restart of the server all changed to YES, and the php version changed down to 5.5.

But still some problems after the restart… «Websocket server crashed».
The IP should be the same in most config files. Trying and failing IP-addresses in the different config files was probably the most time-consuming in my case. Should I use 127.0.0.1 as I hosted all on the same server? or the LAN IP? Or the public IP, as my server was public?
I also had different errors and some weird stuff happening between restarts, my conclusion is that some of the config is not reloaded properly. So remember, restart could help 🙂

Your own config (cfg) in eBot
Update 11.10.2016: If you want to run your own config with eBot, you can write the name of the config-file when creating a match (without the .cfg extenion). This cfg-file should be located under the default csgo/cfg folder in your CS Server installation.
I have noticed some other problems, if the .cfg is also set in the startparameters of CS:GO, there can be some issues when loading the config on knife- and matchround. So make sure to create a brand new .cfg file only for use with eBot.
When I used csgo-server.cfg in both startparameters and in the eBot match, the kniferound didn’t get rid of the guns and match-rounds didn’t execute things like mp_roundtime. Not sure why… It all started working fine when I created a new single competative .cfg file for the eBot to load.
The other problem was with the freeze-time, if the game-mode was not set to competitive. I have only seen this option in the config for gameservermanagers.com so far – not sure if this is an issue on a clean install from Valve.
Troubleshooting and debugging
Push F12 to get the developer console in the browser. Works in most browsers, but I like Google Chrome.
If Websocket is not avalible, it will say Loading in the sidebar and you would get a connection error in the console.
In my case it took some time to figure out what and how the connection was made. I was debugging firewall-log and more. I think the problem was what IP to use. 127, 192 or the public IP.
I tested by creating multiple servers.
When running the bootstrap.php I could see what was going on…

I changed the IP in the start parameters for CS:GO (/lib/systemd/system/csgo.service) and it started working.
But then got a whole lot of other error messages. It looked like the CounterStrike client could talk back to the eBot.

As CS:GO and eBot was on the same server, I changed almost all IP-addresses in the config files to my local IP (192…). I usually set 127.0.0.1 if it’s the same host. The default config also used 127 – but that didn’t work so well in my case.
After changing most of my IP-addresses to the 192 address, everything started working. But I probably had to restart the server a couple of times due to some reload config bug – or I am just missing a service or something to restart/reload.
See my config files above to see where I added my local IP-address.
File access, Apache forbidden…
Another possible error-source could be file access. E.g. if you get «Forbidden» in Apache, then the apache does not have access to the eBot web-files.
Change myuser with your username.
chown -R myuser:www-data /home/ebot/ebot-web/ chmod -R 0775 /home/ebot/ebot-web/
500 error
If eBot webpage is working, but you get an 500 error when opening /admin.php.
Check the apache log.
tail -f /var/log/apache2/access.log
tail parameter is to get the bottom of the log, and -f parameter is to follow the log. Push CTRL+C to quit.
In the access log I could see the same as in the browser. The request had an 500 error.

It’s a lot of text, but if you look for the sentences, and not the file paths, you can see «Failed to make cache directory».
I probably forgot to create the cache directory, created it in the wrong folder or just forgot to set correct access to it.
Solution:
mkdir /home/ebot/ebot-web/cache/ chmod -R 0777 /home/ebot/ebot-web/cache/
Full fileaccess
If you get really annoyed and nothing is working, you could do…
chmod -R 0777 /home/ebot/ chmod -R 0777 /home/steam/
…then there is nothing stopping access to the files. But this is also a security risk! I was testing on a virtual machine for testing purposes, but don’t do stuff like this if you still have some hope to get it working 🙂

Кросс-платформенная загрузка
Разработчики добавили в SteamCMD новый параметр ( @sSteamCmdForcePlatformType ), который позволяет выбрать платформу для которой необходимо скачать файлы, даже если это не та платформа на которой вы сейчас работаете.
Для загрузки Windows сервер CS: 1.6 из под Linux:

Исправление неудачной загрузки сервера (папки cstrike)
В свете последних событий, некоторые люди испытывают проблему с загрузкой сервера, в частности у них просто не выкачивается папка cstrike. Ниже будет описан способ исправить данную проблему, а в архиве прикреплены нужные файлы.
- Выполняем инструкцию запуска steamcmd
- После выполнения команды app_update 90 -beta beta validate, переходим в директорию, которую указали в force_install_dir
- Находим там директорию steamapps и удаляем все ее содержимое
- Помещаем в данную директорию наши файлы (appmanifest_10.acf, appmanifest_70.acf, appmanifest_90.acf) из архива
- Выполняем еще раз команду app_update 90 -beta beta validate
- Теперь директория cstrike должна нормально скачаться

SteamUpdater: Error Problem
Sometimes you may encounter such problem on some machines which have incorrect config of Internet Explorer.
Please tick Automatically detect settings in LAN tab of Internet Explorer Options on your operating system.
SteamCMD always quit at startup
Please refer to the above one SteamUpdater: Error Problem.This is often caused by incorrect IE settings.
I was able to download or update the server package with SteamCMD, but the server fails to start
Common causes:
- On some Linux distributions the path cannot contain any capital letters.
Clients cannot connect to the server. They receive the error «Failed to get session data.»
This is probably caused by specifying an invalid map group in the startup command line. E.g., the August 10, 2012 update removed the «mg_allclassics» mapgroup. Changing it to a valid map group, e.g. mg_active, may fix the problem.
How do I determine whether a change I want to make should be done in autoexec.cfg, server.cfg, or gamemodes_server.txt?
This is where the gamemodes.txt (not gamemodes_server.txt) comes into play. Look for the value you want to change, and if it exists in this file, then make the override in gamemodes_server.txt (pay attention to hierarchy and syntax!!!). Otherwise, most other changes should be done in server.cfg.
Maxplayers doesn’t work/is overridden
- Starting with the August 14 update, Valve heard the cries of its people and added a -maxplayers_override command line argument that overrides any other definitions of maxplayers. And there was much rejoicing.
Progression of maxplayers configuration through the beta:
- In the beginning (pre-CS:GO), Valve created the +maxplayers command line argument. This generally allowed game server providers to set a value that couldn’t be overridden by server operators through config files (and thus gaining access to more player slots than they paid for). Valve and GSPs saw that it was good.
- [Is this correct?] Then, Valve created CS:GO and removed +maxplayers from the command line. Thus Valve saith: «No longer shall you set maxplayers through the command line. In its stead, I have created the maxplayers convar in gamemodes.txt. You shall define maxplayers in gamemodes_server.txt as so:»

Bug. As a workaround, de-list your server from matchmaking with the convar sv_steamgroup_exclusive 1.
How do I force the server to reload gamemodes_server.txt after the server has started?
This may currently not be possible without restarting the server.
How can I run multiple/different server instances from a single install?
The -gamemodes_serverfile command line parameter allows specifying a file other than the default gamemodes_server.txt.

sv_consistency reports models as not allowed
- -Simply set sv_consistency to 0 for now.
round_end lag
- Most noticeable when the round_end is triggered by all players dead
- Apparently setting srcds to run on just 1 core fixes this problem, however this is unconfirmed since I have the same problem on a single core.
- I quote: I just tested this over and over again , and came to the result that affinity affects csgo server ( I have also windows 2008 R2 , my virtual machine). With affinity enabled to one of the 4 cores , I didn’t notice any round end lag , compared to when It was before , with all cores enabled.
mp_autoteambalance 0
- If you start a server with mp_autoteambalance 0, bots will not join and you will get an error that says the game is full when you try to add them. Also only 1 person can join per team. If a 3rd player trys to join a team they get a team is full message for both teams when trying to join. Just started after the May 21st update.
Enabling Killcams
- If you want to enable killcams, GOTV must be enabled (run server with -hltv +tv_enable 1). Then make sure spec_replay_enable is set to 1. Killcams won’t work with bots, nor on competitive.
Disabling MOTD
- To disable MOTD, simply delete motd.txt in csgo folder.
Updating/Downloading CS:GO Dedicated server
- When running «app_update 740» or «app_update 740 validate» you get the following error.
App state (0x10102) reconfiguring, progress: -nan (0 / 0) Error! App '740' state is 0x1 after update job.
- Use the force_install_dir command then retry.
- In case you receive the following error after a successful account login when running «app_update 740» on linux:
ERROR! Failed to request AppInfo update, not online or not logged in to Steam.
- Remove/rename the «Steam» directory from the current user accounts home folder and re-run steamcmd.
players switching teams adds bots
- In Arms Race, no matter if bot_quota is 0 or what bot_quota_mode is set to, when anyone changes teams it will add 1 to bot_quota and add a bot. On some servers, if someone switches teams back and forth quickly it will crash the server. This can happen in classic mode during warm up too.
- Sylwester over at alliedmods.net has created a SourceMod plugin to resolve this issue. I have tested and verified that it does work.

Weapon Progression
- Changing the weapon progression in the gamemodes_server.txt file will not change the weapon progression. You have to also remove this section from the gamemodes.txt file for the changes in gamemodes_server.txt to take affect.

- Since an update on April 29 2015, when a player tries to join a server with more than around 1500 edicts present, they will be disconnected from the server with this message. Keeping the amount of edicts (entities like props, weapons, etc) below 1500 will prevent this bug from occuring.
- This bug was reported on Valve’s csgo-osx-linux github repository some time ago.

Blank map in server browser with GOTV and hibernation
- A server using GOTV and hibernation will not show the current map in the server browser. Not using hibernation is the only known work around.
App update 740 error
Hi folks. I’ve always had issues updating my csgo dedicated server. Once an update is pushed and server needs updated, I have never been able to do the «app_update 740». I’ve always been forced to remove entire directory and redownload through steamCMD. That’s not really an issue, but the last update I have not been able to complete the download. I get this error:
Error! App ‘740’ state is 0x402 after update job.
The error stops at 93.47 percent every single attempt.
I attempted the download on a different server with no issues so it has to be specific to my server.
Make sure the Steam Client is not running when you run SteamCMD.
Make sure your anti-malware protection system is disabled when you run SteamCMD.
Try and log into an account that owns the game through SteamCMD.
Issue command:
app_update 740 validate
try
app_info 740
or
app_state 740
in order to view detailed information.
Since 93.47% is at the later part of the update download process (i am guessing you don’t mean it stops at 93.47% commit) it is most possibly downloading the main executable binary files.

А разница? validate — это проверка целостности приложения.
Проблема решена.

Нужно отключить брандмауэр
service iptables stop && chkconfig iptables off

А может правила не нужно добавлять какие попало? Потому что с фаерволом никогда таких проблем не было.

Вообщем проблема связана с загруженностью серверов стим.
Попробовал рано утром и всё как по маслу встало. Ничего с файрволом делать не нужно и правил (тем более когда не знаешь, что они делают) никаких писать не нужно.

Та же проблема , но уже с установкой css
Никаких правил и запретов iptables нет . Всё с 0
Установила нужные библиотеки и всё.
Ставила сервер css на других хостингах много раз и всегда это занимало считанные минуты, решила поставить сервер на myarena , долбаюсь второй день .
Вот что ответила тех.поддержка через 5 часов
Но даже после того как скачала и запустила steam cmd войти не удалось ни под anonymous , ни под своим логином -паролем .Пишет :
opensslconnection.cpp (1490) : Assertion Failed : unableto load trusted SSL root certificate
Кто то сталкивался с таким вот на vds myarena ?
PS.Решение нашла. Может кому то пригодится :
apt-get install —reinstall ca-certificates

I log in with root
I guarantee that «/root/csgoserver» exists.
I had chomd 777 /root/csgoserver
I had chmod 777 steamcmd.sh
I have enough space to install it.
I would appreciate it if that you could hlep me.

It’s a bug out there. So you can’t use force_install
If you make the server just inside steamcmd folder that won’t be a problem then you can move that folder to the CSGOserver
