Method 1 — Close Conflicting Programs

When you get a runtime error, keep in mind that it is happening due to programs that are conflicting with each other. The first thing you can do to resolve the problem is to stop these conflicting programs.

Open Task Manager by clicking Ctrl-Alt-Del at the same time. This will let you see the list of programs currently running.
Go to the Processes tab and stop the programs one by one by highlighting each program and clicking the End Process buttom.
You will need to observe if the error message will reoccur each time you stop a process.
Once you get to identify which program is causing the error, you may go ahead with the next troubleshooting step, reinstalling the application.

Method 2 — Update / Reinstall Conflicting Programs

Using Control Panel

For Windows 7, click the Start Button, then click Control panel, then Uninstall a program
For Windows 8, click the Start Button, then scroll down and click More Settings, then click Control panel > Uninstall a program.
For Windows 10, just type Control Panel on the search box and click the result, then click Uninstall a program
Once inside Programs and Features, click the problem program and click Update or Uninstall.
If you chose to update, then you will just need to follow the prompt to complete the process, however if you chose to Uninstall, you will follow the prompt to uninstall and then re-download or use the application’s installation disk to reinstall the program.

Using Other Methods

For Windows 7, you may find the list of all installed programs when you click Start and scroll your mouse over the list that appear on the tab. You may see on that list utility for uninstalling the program. You may go ahead and uninstall using utilities available in this tab.
For Windows 10, you may click Start, then Settings, then choose Apps.
Scroll down to see the list of Apps and features installed in your computer.
Click the Program which is causing the runtime error, then you may choose to uninstall or click Advanced options to reset the application.

Method 3 — Update your Virus protection program or download and install the latest Windows Update

Virus infection causing runtime error on your computer must immediately be prevented, quarantined or deleted. Make sure you update your virus program and run a thorough scan of the computer or, run Windows update so you can get the latest virus definition and fix.

Method 4 — Re-install Runtime Libraries

You might be getting the error because of an update, like the MS Visual C++ package which might not be installed properly or completely. What you can do then is to uninstall the current package and install a fresh copy.

Uninstall the package by going to Programs and Features, find and highlight the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Package.
Click Uninstall on top of the list, and when it is done, reboot your computer.
Download the latest redistributable package from Microsoft then install it.

Method 5 — Run Disk Cleanup

You might also be experiencing runtime error because of a very low free space on your computer.

You should consider backing up your files and freeing up space on your hard drive
You can also clear your cache and reboot your computer
You can also run Disk Cleanup, open your explorer window and right click your main directory (this is usually C: )
Click Properties and then click Disk Cleanup

Method 6 — Reinstall Your Graphics Driver

If the error is related to a bad graphics driver, then you may do the following:

Open your Device Manager, locate the graphics driver
Right click the video card driver then click uninstall, then restart your computer

Method 7 — IE related Runtime Error

If the error you are getting is related to the Internet Explorer, you may do the following:

Reset your browser.

For Windows 7, you may click Start, go to Control Panel, then click Internet Options on the left side. Then you can click Advanced tab then click the Reset button.
For Windows 8 and 10, you may click search and type Internet Options, then go to Advanced tab and click Reset.

Disable script debugging and error notifications.

On the same Internet Options window, you may go to Advanced tab and look for Disable script debugging
Put a check mark on the radio button
At the same time, uncheck the «Display a Notification about every Script Error» item and then click Apply and OK, then reboot your computer.

If these quick fixes do not work, you can always backup files and run repair reinstall on your computer. However, you can do that later when the solutions listed here did not do the job.

Hi I keep getting the following message, «Run-time error ‘3024’: Could not find file ‘\T4S-SHOP-TWR-PCUsers……

A Debug prompt came up & I clicked DeBug. The new mask that came up has the highlighted text:

If strAdministratorPassword = DLookup(«[tbl322AdminPassword]», «Storage&Control Table») Then

This happened after I opened the Access Database, went to the Administration menu & tried to sign on with the password. It then gave me the debug prompt.

Not sure what other information you may need but can anyone please help me???!!!

Could it be that you are using a path that is protected and requires administrator rights. I suggest moving the file outside of the user folder especially if other users will be trying to connect to it. something like…

\T4S-SHOP-TWR-PCC$DatabaseFilesYourAppNameHere.accdb

What the error is telling you is that the system can’t find the database file that is linked to and provides the data for your application. Apparently your database is stored on a network drive that for some reason is not accessible to you
from the machine you are on. If you have a network administrator, you may need to speak to them about the problem.

One user reported getting error:

But there is no file of this name needed nor referenced nor coded, nothing. I have no clue as to why the error would say this.

Background:

Environment is Access 2010 on Windows 7 inside company network, back end SQL 2012 within the network.

Each user has a copy of the Access FE on their desktop and they get a fresh copy of the master each time they log in. This improved performance greatly. This database is heavily used.

My database was originally written in 2008, and has been updated as needed. Problems started being reported in July by multiple users. Prior update to database design was in Dec 2016. I upgraded the code to ADO and made fixes to syntax that I could find. Installed update 3 weeks ago, been running fine until today.

Any brilliant ideas out there would be greatly appreciated.

We are running access 2016 and getting a runtime error of 3024 when running the following code. This error has never occurred and we run this process every month and have done so for years. It appears to me that it is not creating the mdb file. I have validated that the code is returning to correct variables for sfilename, and sfilepath. Where would I check for access errors on the server. when I place a file in the directory and rename it to the mdb file that the copy section is looking for I get the same error. How would I check for permission issues in creating the mdb file? Thanks in advance for any input. I am a DBA not a developer. Regards,

I used to programmatically copy revised Access frontend to user computer C: root and then IT tightened up permissions and could no longer do that. Have your folder permission settings been changed to remove Write privilege? Maybe that would prevent saving a new table into existing db file.
Every get your problem fixed?
Old thread I know — but Windows 10 made it much harder to do anything directly into c: root directory.

[RESOLVED] Runtime error 3024 Could not find file

Hi there, I am a visual basis novice and new to this forum so please be patient with me!

I am having problems with getting Excel 2007 to send and extract data from an Access 2007 database. We have recently converted from Excel 2000 and Access 97 and I have upgraded my spreadsheets and databases accordingly (this code all worked fine in the old versions).

My problem arises when I try to get my Excel vba (v6.5) code to write data to my Access 2007 database. My code is as follows:

Dim Db As Database
Dim rst As Recordset
Dim i As Integer

Set Db = OpenDatabase(«p:effy_staMyDatabase 2007.accdb»)
Set rst = Db.OpenRecordset(«MyTable», dbOpenDynaset)

When it gets to the �Set Db = OpenDatabase(«p:effy_staMyDatabase 2007.accdb»)� line of the code I get an error stating:

Runtime error �3024� Could not find file �p:effy_staMyDatabase2007.accdb�

As I said, I ran this code successfully in my older versions of Excel and Access.

I have the following references set (but I don’t really understand what they are and what they do):

Microsoft Excel 12.0 Object Library
Microsoft Access 12.0 Object Library
Microsoft DAO 3.6 Object Library
Microsoft Office 12.0 Object Library
Microsoft ActiveX Data Objects 2.8 Library

I would be very grateful if someone could tell me where I have gone wrong and how I can fix it. I have a number of spreadsheets to upgrade and they are all giving me the same error.

The code you have got is DAO (which is very old), and I’m fairly certain that it does not support .accdb files. I think you will need to switch to ADO instead.

You can find examples etc in the «Classic VB: ADO» section of our Database Development FAQs/Tutorials (at the top of the Database Development forum). I recommend reading the «ADO Tutorial» to start with, which may be enough for you to work it all out.

I don’t know from experience one way or the other but I’ve seen several web references that say that DAO does support accdb files.

Marty, Si is bang on the target here.

Yes DAO does support accdb files but is highly unreliable when dealing with Access 2007/Oracle Databases. Your code might run the first time but will fail the second time you run it.

The best way is to convert to ADO.

A good exercise for the Heart is to bend down and help another up…

I have managed to get a solution to my problem via a help tutorial on the internet. The following code works as a replacement to what I had before. It uses the ‘Microsoft ActiveX Data Objects 2.8 Library’ add-in as opposed to the ‘Microsoft DAO 3.6 Object Library’ I was using before.
