I acquired an MSi RTX 3080 Ventus 3x OC from a friend who used it to mine along with other 3080s (Trio, Strix, FTW3 Ultra).
This one has an outdated BIOS version without resizable bar, which I wanted to test. So, I tried to flash it and:
-can’t flash it with newest nvflash following all the steps in guides, CMD as admin, even tried in safe mode, gives me error «Adapter not accessible or supported EEPROM not found, skipping» and «ERROR: Detecting GPU failed.»
-can’t save the current bios with nvflash, gives me error «ERROR: A system restart might be required before running the utility.» and restarting does not work.
-can’t remove the protection with —protectoff, gives me error «ERROR: A system restart might be required before running the utility.» which again does not work.
-can’t save current bios with GPU-Z, gives me the «bios reading not supported on this device» (this is the first thing I tried)My friend told me he never changed the bios, all he did was save it with Hiveos (he did change pads and thermal paste)
GPU-Z shows me all the info, including the bios version no problem there, and the card works, except it has a low performance compared to other 3080s: furmark bench at 1080p is around 16000 points when in other 3080s is 17000; also in Unigine Superposition is a similar matter.
My friend told me to install Hiveos and he would flash my card from his home as apparently one can’t do it in the same computer and I have only one now…
I was thinking of using a bootable USB and see if I could do it that way, but I don’t know if I will need another card to do so, I guess no…Any ideas?

Hello everyone,
Sorry to just drop in like this (being new and all), but I really need some help. Usually I try to do with what I can find online, but this time I’m pretty much stuck in mud, unable to move.
So my problem is this. I have an Asus UX303UB Zenbook series computer with two GPUs. One being an integrated Intel 520 and the other one is a discrete Nvidia 940m. Im happy with what the computer ofers, but the Nvidia GPU gets so damn hot under load and its capped at 80 degrees which makes for some nasty BSODs and general driver crashes. I tried using using MSI Afterburner to underclock the Nvidia but it doesnt do much. In any case I would like to permanently underclock it to reduce the thermal stress.
So far I have tried NVFlash, both the regular one and the one with the certificate bypasses, to get info about the GPU BIOS, save it, and then flash it. This didn’t work. I constantly get errors that the GPU is not configured and or not accessible. On some forum I someone wrote that in this case you should delete the GPU drivers and then try. Still didnt work. After that I found some more info suggesting that the vBIOS is probably a part of the main system BIOS and that I need to extract it somehow. Easier said than done. First I tried to use FPT tool to read the system BIOS, which worked without any problems. However, after thinking about it, it didn’t make much sense in reading it since the BIOS file is available on the Asus website (latest version: UX303UB-AS.206). In any case I had the file and it’s the American Megatrends BIOS, AMI. So to actually extract the vBIOS I needed to use MMTool. I tried with both MMTool 4.5 and 5.0 (honestly, I had no idea which one I was supposed to use, still don’t). Here is where it gets weird(er). After opening the BIOS file with MMTool, nothing happes, or should I say, nothing can be found about the vBIOS. In version 4.5 ticking the Link present checkbox produces no links at all so I tried manually reading every entry I had seen in the list (with both the Extract As is and Extract UnCompressed from the Extract FFS options) with a hex editor. Still nothing. Tried version 5.0 which doesnt even give me the Link present option (it’s grayed out). Tried the extraction option with version 5.0 (a real pain in the butt, since there are more than twice items on the list it seems) and in some extracted files I found Nvidia entries but nothing seemd like a BIOS description. Still, I tried to open those with the MaxvellBiosTweaker Tool 1.36 (assuming I found the correct information that my card is from the Maxwell lineup) but the files were not recognized. The interesting part is that in both tools not even the Intel GPU is listed (and I assumed it should be).
So in the end, I came here looking for help and hope you will be willing and able to do so. I’m 90% sure that this is all my mistake and that I am probably not using the tools as intened or that I am using the wrong versions. In any help, any advice will be appreciated.

A part of my BIOS got corrupted that controls my laptops backlights. Other methods like the Gary Key fix did not work for me because I do not get any light up during post. i followed this guide that says I need to extract and use the 6MB portion of an 8MB bios dump, only AFUWIN tells me «Error, ROM file size does not match existing BIOS size which is because my laptop BIOS size is only 5.87MB. I don’t need to flash the whole BIOS, I only need to flash a portion of it.
I’ve searched everywhere online for a dump of my laptop model but non exist that I know of.
I’m doing a small project to try to resurrect my GT783R (MS-16711) and I’d like some advice.
I’d like to replace the video card as I suspect it is where lies the issue. When I went to eBay to look for spare cards, I noticed that a new GTX580M for Alienware costs around 130.00 while a pre-owned one for MSI costs about 250.00. After researching a bit, I found that the vbios from Alienware is not compatible with the one from MSI. So here is my question, is it possible to flash the MSI vbios into an Alienware card? I suspect so but I’d like confirmation from someone with experience.
Also, assuming it works, will flashing the vbios be the only procedure needed or do I have to do something else?

[SOLVED] Bricked 1080ti bios — Nvflash — Adapter not accessible or supported EEPROM not found skipping — Detecting GPU failed — Expection Caught
dowerranger
Reputable
I’m hoping you can help me out.
I recently bought a faulty Asus Strix GTX 1080ti from ebay which doesn’t display a image.
It still has its warranty sticker on so has never been taken apart, and I’ve looked at the bios on NVflash and believe its been bricked by the previous owner maybe trying to flash a custom bios?
When typing NVflash —list the graphics card is recognized and shows up, however the EEPROM ID is 00,0000: Unknown — which looks wrong to me. (I’ve flashed a number of ex mining cards before)
I’m trying to restore the original bios but I keep getting the following error messages (see photos as well):
Adapter not accessible or supported EEPROM not found skipping — Detecting GPU failed — Expection Caught — Nothing changed!
I’ve been googling and some people have mentioned a program called HEX to make a custom bios that might fix it?
However I have no idea how to use that, so if anyone has any insight or can help me out I’d really appreciate it!

Weird Bios problem
Fergutor
-can’t save current bios with GPU-Z, gives me the «bios reading not supported on this device» (this is the first thing I tried)
My friend told me he never changed the bios, all he did was save it with Hiveos (he did change pads and thermal paste)
GPU-Z shows me all the info, including the bios version no problem there, and the card works, except it has a low performance compared to other 3080s: furmark bench at 1080p is around 16000 points when in other 3080s is 17000; also in Unigine Superposition is a similar matter.
My friend told me to install Hiveos and he would flash my card from his home as apparently one can’t do it in the same computer and I have only one now.
I was thinking of using a bootable USB and see if I could do it that way, but I don’t know if I will need another card to do so, I guess no.

Well, no, I need the card to be able to be flashed as any other card. If there’s a future new BIOS resolving some issue or introducing some new feature, I want to be able to flash it as it should be.
Also when I sell it, I don’t want to sell a card that misses a normal feature.
I don’t remember now if I did it right after before reboot or after reboot, but I did try that first thing and nothing.
Also couldn’t save the bios, etc.
Then I installed nvidia drivers and GPU Z didn’t show them. I used DDU and reinstalled and now it shows.
AAahhh. this thing.
What do you think about trying with a bootable USB?

Bro don’t worry it’s not about a mined card or bla bla whatever the comments are making this a poop party.
I wanted to reflash my 3080 g x trio from the suprim bios bcoz i be running it 24hrs for awhile.
I FACED(so read for the good part) i’d the same issue prompting restart required and gpuz saying is not supported whatever F’s
After some research i’d a hunch the manufacturers have a shadow deal with these bunch.
Skip gpuz and dont use the latest nvflash, its made to make us feel like be bricked our cards or so

сайте палит-RTX3090_BIOS_Upgrade201201 ?

C:>nvflash64 -6 82.08.17.00.0E.rom Checking for matches between display adapter(s) and image(s)… Adapter: GeForce 840M (10DE,1341,1043,130D) H:—:NRM S:00,B:04,D:00,F:0 Command complete with error, Error code = 0x0003 Results: ERROR: Detecting GPU failed.

Thanks

GPU stands for Graphics Processing Unit and it is designed to handle the graphical operations of the system, but if your device has an external GPU, you might face the GPU not Detected Issue. This particular issue sometimes halts the whole operation of your computer and prevents you from being able to run any GPU heavy applications because it forces the graphics to load on the integrated GPU. The Graphics card doesn’t even appear in the device manager and this isn’t solved simply by restarting the system.
What Prevents the GPU From being Detected?
There can be a lot of triggers behind this error but some of the most common ones are stated below.
- The GPU might have been disabled in the device manager either because the card was faulty or because it got glitched during the startup.
- You might have inserted a new graphic card and your system might not be detecting it.
- Your system might have faulty drivers or incorrect BIOS settings might have been configured due to which the GPU is not being detected in the device manager.
- There are also certain Hardware failures that can prevent the GPU from being detected.
Pre-Tips:
If you encounter this error the first thing to do is to check if the graphic card is properly installed into the system or not. To do so follow the steps given below.
- Power off your computer and wait until it is completely turned off.
- Now open your CPU’s case cover, locate the graphics card and remove it from the PCI-Express x16 Slot.
- Put the card back again in the PCI-Express x16 slot carefully and make sure that you install it carefully.
- Put the case cover back on your system, power on your device and check if the problem is fixed or not.
What can you do if your Graphics Card is not Detected?
Solution 1: Enable the GPU in the device manager
In most cases, the GPU might have gotten disabled in the device manager due to which it is not being detected. Therefore, in this, we will be enabling the GPU in the device manager. In order to do so, follow the steps stated below.
- Go to the search bar in the taskbar and type device manager or press windows key+x.
- Select the device manager and click on display adapters.
- Click on the arrow beside the display adaptors and select AMD Radeon R5 graphics (chose the card installed into the system).
Disabling Adapters - Click on the driver tab, select the Enable button. If the button is not present it means that your graphics card is already enabled.
Solution 2: Disable Selective Startup
In some cases, you might have enabled the selective startup feature on your device or it might have gotten enabled after a power loss. In this mode, the GPU drivers aren’t loaded and instead, Windows loads the basic Microsoft Display Drivers. Therefore, in this step, we will be disabling the selective startup and then we will restart our computer to load the normal ones. For that:
- Press “Windows” + “R” to open the Run prompt.
- Type in “msconfig” and then press “Enter”.
Typing in “Msconfig” - Click on the “Normal Startup” check-mark and select “Apply”.
- Restart your computer and check to see if the issue persists.
Solution 3: Disabling Other GPU
It is possible to get around this issue by first disabling the integrated GPU that is being used from the device manager and then reinstalling the drivers while it is disabled. In order to do so, follow the guide below.
- Press “Windows” + “R” buttons simultaneously to open the run prompt and type in “Devmgmt.msc”.
Typing devmgmt.msc in the Run prompt - Press “enter” and expand the “Display Adapters” dropdown.

- Restart the computer again and now both the drivers should be showing in the device manager.
- Right-click on the “Intel” card and select “Enable Device”.
- Check to see if the issue still persists.
Solution 4: Display the hidden devices
If you have recently replaced your GPU, there is a high chance that it shows up in the hidden devices. It is necessary to unhide it and to do that follow the steps listed below.
- Go to the search bar in the taskbar of your desktop and type device manager or press windows key+x.
Selecting Device Manager - Select the “view” option which is located in the toolbar present at the top and click on the Show hidden devices button in order to make hidden devices visible.
- Now click on the “Action” option present besides the view and select “scan for hardware changes”.
- After the scan is completed, click on display adapters and check if the graphics card is detected.
Solution 5: Reinstall the Graphics card Driver
Sometimes reinstalling the graphic card can help in getting rid of this error. This can be done by following the steps given below.
