Thanks to all.

@ Additional info: When i was trying to install arch i could not download base and base-devel with pacstrap because this error… And it was solved putting the line «ipv6.disable=1» on boot arch.

The real way to solve it was changing resolv.conf to use Google DNS.
Thanks to all.

[Pacman]

WTF?

Это я к чему: mirrors.kernel.org пробовали?

Это я к чему: mirrors.kernel.org пробовали?

Что в pacman.conf?

pacman -Syu —debug

XferCommand = /usr/bin/wget —passive-ftp -c -O %o %u

XferCommand = /usr/bin/wget —passive-ftp -c -O %o %u

[SOLVED] error: failed retrieving file

First, sorry for bad english xD

I recently install Arch x64 but only in my home network i need to try much mirrorlists to download an package.. but the internet works to any site / download.
My home network works 100% on Fedora, Debian, Ubuntu and Windows.

I get the error iwlfifi unsuported splx structure. (but in another SOS wifi works 100%)
My moden: Telsec 9000.

Example, in some packages i can not even install.

@ Additional info: When i was trying to install arch i could not download base and base-devel with pacstrap because this error. And it was solved putting the line «ipv6.disable=1» on boot arch.

The real way to solve it was changing resolv.conf to use Google DNS.
Thanks to all.

Works okay here. Requisite scolding — DO NOT USE PACMAN WITH -S SWITCH UNLESS YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU ARE DOING. There, that feels better
Use -Syu so you don’t inadvertently do a partial upgrade. Partial upgrades are a «Bad Thing»©

Is your internet up? For example, can you browse to http://archlinux.c3sl.ufpr.br/ ? (I can)
Any chance you are in some kind of Internet Jail where you need to use a browser to go enter some credentials (like from a hotel room or an Internet cafe)?

[SOLVED] Installing xorg-server failed retrieving file

I am installing Arch for the first time and while trying to install xorg-server and xorg-server-utils I get:

«error: failed retrieving file ‘llvm-libs-3.9.0-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz’ from mirrors. * «

The error repeats for every mirror that I have listed in /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist

The file hosted on archwiki says that the file was flagged as outdated yesterday, 11/26. I downloaded the file and placed it in /var/cache/pacman/pkg with the other files, but I am still unable to install. I get the same error.

What am I doing wrong, or how can I fix it? I can’t install Xorg and I am at an impasse for my install.

Re: [SOLVED] Installing xorg-server failed retrieving file

Which release of the installation media are you using (or have you already installed the base system and booted into it)? What’s in /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist? Have you tried enabling some mirrors listed in the mirrorlist generator?

Re: [SOLVED] Installing xorg-server failed retrieving file

I have successfully installed Arch onto my machine and I am booted into it. I also sorted my mirrors using:

# rankmirrors -n 6 /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist.backup > /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist

I did this after creating a backup at /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist.backup during the install process. However, I can’t find that backup now so I might have misplaced it or it did not transfer after the install. The mirrors are indeed updated with the 6 fastest mirrors.

/var/cache/pacman/pkg is populated with many files.

How would you suggest that I get the logs or outputs from my arch machine? I could cp the logs to a flash drive, but I’m at a loss for how to easily copy the outputs without typing them.

[Solved] error: failed retrieving file ‘core.db’ during instalation

I’m having this error error: failed retrieving file ‘core.db’ for all mirrors of mirrorlist during intalation when I try to install «base» «linux» «linux-firmware», seems like the sistem can’t resolve the names od the servers. Actually I have installed this three packages one or twice but after that other problem comes up, it’s something related with keys PKG.

The iso image is not corrupted.

I have instaled Arch linux one time and nothing this happned before.

Anyone can help me.

I’m not been juvenile, he asked me if was connected to internet, I answered yes, and he said to me that was not the question, of course I’m laughing.

what I did was this.

And here is where the error starts

error: failed retrieving file ‘core.db’.

I think DNS can’t resolve server names. I tried to choose mirrors near to me, DNS doesn’t resolve the names, and when it does and all the packages are installed, I have issues with the PKG keys.

Re: [Solved] error: failed retrieving file ‘core.db’ during instalation

The question was how, as in by which means, which utility did you use not whether you have a connection.

This also isn’t the entire error, if you indeed have a working internet connection, there should be no issues in posting the whole thing: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Li … in_clients

No. He asked you how you are connected to the internet. I.e. provide information about the software used and possible network infrastructure.

Re: [Solved] error: failed retrieving file ‘core.db’ during instalation

First of all I would like to apologize for being so late, and also to apologize to everyone and especially Scimmia. obviously I misunderstood your question.

The connection is being made normally at home I am not in any environment that could result in this problem, the reality is that after spending the weekend I managed to do the installation normally, which did not happen on Saturday and Sunday. I think it would be a problem with DNS resolution. The problem is solved and the system is installed, again I apologize, and I thank you everyone who responded, thank you.

failed retrieving file ‘core.db’ from. when connected on the wifi

I’ve just moved home today and pacman doesn’t work when I’m connected on wifi:

But no problem to update once I connect to my phone’s hotspot. Is there a rational explanation (and how to fix this problem) ?
Thanks

Re: failed retrieving file ‘core.db’ from. when connected on the wifi

Seems like a DNS problem. Can you issue `ping www.google.com` and ping 8.8.8.8 to see what happens? Can you connect to the internet at all? Can you try to force your system to use Google DNS (8.8.8.8)? Also what is the content of /etc/resolv.conf?

Re: failed retrieving file ‘core.db’ from. when connected on the wifi

Not a DNS problem apparently

Yes, I can browse on the internet as well, I can reach my server in ssh, everything seems normal except pacman

wlp1s0 is my network interface name.

There’s one thing that strikes me as odd : all replies are ipv4 .
Do you have ipv6 disabled ?

Can you tell me exactly how to know if it’s enabled or not ? It seems ok according to this command:

By the way, I don’t have a file like /etc/sysctl.d/40-ipv6.conf

How can I find the link to try ? I’ve tried $ wget archlinux.mirrors.uk2.net/core.db but I guess it’s a wrong address

Re: failed retrieving file ‘core.db’ from. when connected on the wifi

Pass the —debug option to pacman to show the urls it is using.

Re: failed retrieving file ‘core.db’ from. when connected on the wifi

Will print (-p) the file locations for all packages that are in the current full system update (-u).

For packages available in the cache, this will be file:///var/cache/pacman/pkg urls, for packages that still need to be downloaded, this will be http urls that you can use to download. You can also use a package you definitely don’t have installed, in order to retrieve the correct url. The core.db will just be swapping out the last component, but I assume any file from the mirror would have the same error.

For the current version of pacman, you can now use

To get the right base url for a repo, and then append «/core.db»

IPv6 addresses starting with fe80 are a special case, see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Link-local_address .

Ping uses ipv6 by default and ipv4 as fallback or when ping is specifcally told to use ipv4 (like pinging 8.8.8.8 )
The kernel by default supports ipv6 , but your networkcard hasn’t gotten an ipv6 dhcp address .
That means you disabled it OR your router / isp don’t support ipv6.

problems with ipv6 might have to do with the timeouts.

Re: failed retrieving file ‘core.db’ from. when connected on the wifi

The last router I used worked well, I guess it means that my router doesn’t support ipv6 ? It’s the first time that I get this issue, most of the routers support ipv6, right ?
Then how to fix it ?

And I have also a small question aside my issue, why the mirror protocols are not using ssl ? I guess it’s a leak because a man-and-the-middle could modify the db file and make a link pointing on another content (locally or from internet, I guess there are further securities to prevent it, but still it’s something incertain), do you have any explanations about the http ?

It’s not of big as a risk as you’re making out. All of the packages in the official repositories are signed so it would be impossible for an attacker to get you to install an untrusted package. The worst they could do is to modify core.db so you didn’t get any updates for specific packages hoping to keep you on a vunerable version of a piece of software.

pacman prints:

«error: failed retrieving file ‘core.db’ from ftp.icm.edu.pl : Operation too slow. Less than 1 bytes/sec transferred the last 10 seconds»

and then many other similar messages (with different mirrors) upon invoking «pacman -Syu»

During an update I switched wi-fi network and now pacman refuses to work. I have two networks I usually connect to and it only works when connected to one of them (I don’t remember from which to which I was switching). Both networks are fine, «ping archlinux.org» and loading websites in Firefox works when connected to either.

Here’s pacman.conf and mirrorlist.

Things I tried so far:

  • «pacman -S pacman»

  • Removing resolv.conf and letting NetworkManager generate a new one.

  • Disabling and stopping NetworkManager and connecting via wpa_supplicant and dhcpcd

Solution:
