Hi all

I’m trying to switch my Nvidia drivers from 304xx to 340xx (I have an old MSI Geforce 210 card) on my server

Some background:

I don’t quite get the (recursive) meaning of «removing nvidia-304xx-utils breaks dependency ‘nvidia-304xx-utils'» !

So do I really have to uninstall (and later reinstall) the wine package to execute this driver switch??

Re: [SOLVED] failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies

You just need to add the corresponding lib32- packages to your command line, to replace all nvidia packages at once.

Do you mean like this:

[xxxx@SRV ~]$ sudo pacman -Sy nvidia-340xx  nvidia-340xx-utils  nvidia-340xx-libgl    lib32-nvidia-340xx-utils  lib32-nvidia-340xx-libgl

Re: [SOLVED] failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies

OK — to solve this naughty  «dep hell» I had to run

pacman -Rdd nvidia-304xx nvidia-304xx-utils nvidia-304xx-libgl

before being able to install the 340-xxx driver

 pacman -Sy nvidia-340xx nvidia-340xx-utils

Re: [SOLVED] failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies

First running pacman -Sy [anything] is a good way to break your system with a partial upgrade (and with the readline update that just went through this is a real possibility)

Second it if you end up using the -Rdd switch you need to be sure to install all the replacements. It looks like you never installed nvidia-340xx-libgl to replace the the 304xx version, and still have lib32-nvidia-304xx-utils lib32-nvidia-304xx-libgl installed and not the 340xx of either.

There might be other dependency issues that you told pacman to ignore, so you should check to be sure no packages are left that relied on the nvidia-304xx packages

Re: [SOLVED] failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies

Sorry for this very late reply.

1) Immediately before the

pacman -Sy nvidia-340xx nvidia-340xx-utils

I had issued a

. Should have mentioned that of course so my bad.

2)

Yeah  that’s a given.

But alas my battlestation is up running fine again :-) so thanx for all assistance!

Today, I tried to update my Arch Linux desktop, and ended up with Perl dependency problem. However, I never installed those broken Perl packages directly. I thought it was due to pacman problem. After a bit of searching on Arch Linux forums, I found that it isn’t related to pacman, but AUR. Here is the error message I got when I tried to update my Arch system.

$ sudo pacman -Syu

Sample output:

The above packages are the dependencies of Shutter screenshot tool. The actual reason of this perl dependency issue is the developer of Shutter has stopped the development two or three years ago. It makes use of a lot of dependencies which makes it very hard to maintain.

To solve this problem, either you should uninstall Shutter, and go for the other alternative, or just remove Shutter and all its dependencies, and then reinstall it again.

To remove shutter, run:

$ sudo pacman -R shutter

After removing Shutter, you need to remove all unused dependencies using command:

$ sudo pacman -Rns $(pacman -Qtdq)

Alternatively, you can only remove problematic dependencies using as shown below. Please be careful while doing this. Just make sure you are removing the correct problematic perl packages only.

$ sudo pacman -R perl-gtk2-unique perl-gtk2-imageview perl-goo-canvas perl-gnome2-wnck gnomecanvas-perl gnome-vfs-perl gnome-perl

This time I updated my Arch Linux box without any issues. After updating the system, you can either find any alternative tool for Shutter or simply reinstall it using Yaourt or Packer.

yaourt -S shutter

Or,

packer -S shutter

Reinstalling Shutter may bring this perl dependency issue again. I recommend you to wait for the official solution. This method will solve the problem temporally.  Or, find an alternative to the Shutter screenshot tool, and get rid of it permanently.

Cheers!

    In November 2017, 12 teamviewer programs could be installed on Arch Linux. Support for the tiny 32 will be discontinued soon, and we’ll really see what that means for this type of application that rely on 32 serving packages.

    Now that you’ve written the script to install Teamviewer, you might like this answer

    Pot What teamviewer wanted was a storyline from an earlier version. He wanted to limit himself to this lib32-freetype2 package.

    Downgrade is actually an application installed on ArcoLinux that you can use when needed.

    Teamviewer from the start and everything went well. But updates come back because pacman sees that an older version of these packages is in use and wants to update it. But if teamviewer needs an older version too, you will be stuck by mistake.

    My Pacman is acting strange. I recently tried to run classic pacman -Syu to update my Manjaro, but it still shows:

    What is buttock pain. I am actively researching Archwiki and the forums to understand what is going on about this. It looks like my kernel no longer supports the password, the problem is I cannot remove it because it is the only one I am using and I cannot install inject new topics because sudo mhwd -kernel - i linux52 or again some other specific LTS kernel output:
