Error initializing main frame buffer

I have installed CS 1.6 (not stand-alone) and HL1 on my older MSI Wind U100 Netbook under a freshly updated Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 32-bit running the default Unity desktop environment. When I try to star...

Same message with Half-Life Beta and CounterStrike Beta on my Desktop PC.

I’ve a dual monitor setup (details below) and the game (in fullscreen mode) always starts on the primary monitor (set as primary in X-Server configuration, resolution 1632×920 59.9 hz) and gives me: «Error initializing Main frame buffer»

WORKAROUND: Start the game in windowed mode. After this, I could start Half-Life and also start a «New game» from the menu.
HowTo: Open Steam => right-click on the game => choose properties => start options => add «-window»
(terms might not be very exactly, because I use the german version and just translated it)

I know the proprietary ATI driver has better gaming performance but I like the opensource driver because it works much better with other parts of my X-Server.

у меня как будто инета нет!моргнет на секунду при нажатии рефреш и все пусто!

Черт его знает, возможно проблема с местер-сервером у steam, который как раз и отвечает за поиск игровых серверов…

Моя мечта поставить на комп Linux, Unix, *BSD, Mac OS X, OpenSolaris, OS/2, Windows.
Не спрашивайте зачем. Сам не знаю ???

Арчи, logdog, начало поста:
https://forum.ubuntu.ru/index.php?topic=205249.msg1624694#msg1624694

Hi all

I’ve never really worked with textures or buffers in OpenGL…until now. I’m trying to use a FBO for off-screen rendering and I’m receiving a GL_FRAMEBUFFER_INCOMPLETE_ATTACHMENT_EXT error when I call glCheckFramebufferStatusEXT() after initialization.

What am I missing? I used a renderbuffer for color instead of a texture. Maybe this is a no-no, but I’ve read otherwise (though I haven’t seen any examples).

void Engine::_initialize(int width, int height, GLenum internalformat)
{
	// save dimensions
	_width = width;
	_height = height;
	_internalformat = internalformat;

	// set up hdc and rdc
	_hdc = GetDC(NULL);

	// set the pixel format for the DC
	ZeroMemory (&_pfd, sizeof (_pfd));
	_pfd.nSize = sizeof (_pfd);
	_pfd.nVersion = 1;
	_pfd.dwFlags = PFD_SUPPORT_OPENGL;
	_pfd.iPixelType = PFD_TYPE_RGBA;
	_pfd.cColorBits = 24;
	_pfd.cDepthBits = 24;
	_pfd.iLayerType = PFD_MAIN_PLANE;

	int iFormat = ChoosePixelFormat(_hdc, &_pfd);
	SetPixelFormat(_hdc, iFormat, &_pfd);

	// create and enable the render context (RC)
	_hrc = wglCreateContext(_hdc);
	wglMakeCurrent(_hdc, _hrc);

	// get last bound FBO
	GLuint last_fb = 0;
	glGetIntegerv(GL_FRAMEBUFFER_BINDING_EXT, (GLint *)&last_fb);

	// make our frame buffer
	glGenFramebuffersEXT(1, &_fb);

	// select on which FBO to operate
	glBindFramebufferEXT(GL_FRAMEBUFFER_EXT, _fb);

	// initialize depth renderbuffer
	glGenRenderbuffersEXT(1, &_depthb);
	glBindRenderbufferEXT(GL_RENDERBUFFER_EXT, _depthb);
	glRenderbufferStorageEXT(GL_RENDERBUFFER_EXT, GL_DEPTH_COMPONENT24, _width, _height);

	// attach renderbuffer to framebuffer depth buffer
	glFramebufferRenderbufferEXT(GL_FRAMEBUFFER_EXT, GL_DEPTH_ATTACHMENT_EXT, GL_RENDERBUFFER_EXT, _depthb);

	// initialize color renderbuffer
	glGenRenderbuffersEXT(1, &_colorb);
	glBindRenderbufferEXT(GL_RENDERBUFFER_EXT, _colorb);
	glRenderbufferStorageEXT(GL_RENDERBUFFER_EXT, _internalformat, _width, _height);

	// attach renderbuffer to framebuffer color buffer
	glFramebufferRenderbufferEXT(GL_FRAMEBUFFER_EXT, GL_COLOR_ATTACHMENT0_EXT, GL_RENDERBUFFER_EXT, _colorb);

	// check status
	int status = glCheckFramebufferStatusEXT(GL_FRAMEBUFFER_EXT);

	// unbind renderbuffers from current context
	glBindRenderbufferEXT(GL_RENDERBUFFER_EXT, 0);

	if (status != GL_FRAMEBUFFER_COMPLETE_EXT)
	{
		if (_depthb != 0)
			glDeleteRenderbuffersEXT(1, &_depthb);
		if (_colorb != 0)
			glDeleteRenderbuffersEXT(1, &_colorb);
		if (_fb != 0)
			glDeleteFramebuffersEXT(1, &_fb);

		// fallback, fail
		glBindFramebufferEXT(GL_FRAMEBUFFER_EXT, last_fb);
		return;
	}

	// fallback
	glBindFramebufferEXT(GL_FRAMEBUFFER_EXT, last_fb);
}

Error Initializing Buffers*

I am fairly new to the DAW scene. I have a Lexicon Alpha audio interface that I have a condenser microphone hooked up to. Everything works perfectly when I hop in Audacity or Free Sound Recorder. I am getting this error message when I try to select my audio interface driver when I am in reaper, however. I’ll have to be honest and say I do not have a clue as to what the problem is, or even how to fix it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If any additional details would be needed, let me know. Thanks

Try select ASIO first, and then select among the drivers that come up then.

I had similar things happend when I select DirectSound which is used by Windows sound.

Just guessing…

I had the ASIO device selected and the ASIO driver as well. When I clicked okay or when I try to record, I always get the same error, failed to initialize buffers…

Just a couple of guesses but:
1) Do you have any other audio-capable programs open while Reaper is running? Music player, internet browser, midi player, Audacity, etc.? Reaper and ASIO sometimes don’t play together well if there’s other things going on.

2) Have you tried adjusting the buffer on your ASIO? You might have to find a sweet spot for your hardware and Reaper to work together too. A fresh re-install/restart with no other programs open might not hurt if you can’t get it to work.

It wouldn’t hurt to post your computer info, operating system, and so on for more specific advice.

I have not tried adjusting the buffering, mainly because I have no idea how. I don’t doubt that it would solve the issue, it makes sense…I just really wouldn’t know what to tweek and by how much. I’ll definitely try a fresh reinstall…but I have recently been having very bad lockups while trying to access the preferences in Reaper with my ASIO plugged in…to the point where I need to do a hard boot. Hopefully it’ll be okay and I can proceed to fix up the buffering, I guess I would need some pointers on how to do that.

As for my computer…

Buffer Initialization error

I have the same issues with the Omega and I am getting ready to smash it. It works fine for other programs, sound and media playback but it will not work in Reaper. Used the new Omega drivers and it goes straight to the fail mode. Tried the latest ASIO4all drivers too. ASIO4all just gives constant static noise.

I have a Line6 Guitar port that works flawlessly with the Guitar port drivers, input and output but it has no mic inputs or MIDI either. Regardless, I know Reaper and my system are good, it is just something in the Omega.

If anyone has any other ideas, I am listening. If it won’t work, its going up on Ebay…

I am open to suggestions on the best all in one interface for instruments, mics, and MIDI in case this just won’t work…

having the same issue now. Two different computers I have tried and now this is my second interface. I’m not sure what is next to do…..

My original gear was Focusrite 24 DSP firewire
IBM Thinkpad Win7 8G RAM but had work crap on it, this is why I bought another laptop

New setup
Apollo USB UAD Twin
Dell Precision m4600 8G of RAM and I hope to go to 32G at some point. SSD drive is boot drive and I have a hybrid 1T drive as my data drive for recording. This is Core i7 from 2012 and the machine is clean, no antivirus apps or anything else for that matter. Firewall is turned off. I have my Fractal Audio Axefx2 drive loaded so I can update the firmware and edit the sounds but it’s not selected in the Reaper. I had it set to 48k and 512 buffer and the 1024. I can’t imagine I need more than that for a buffer. I’m not even recording much. I have drums (all separate tracks) and I have bass one track and various guitar test tracks that I am comparing.

I think my machine is plenty powerful enough for what I am doing. It’s more of a machine than my singers Apple Desktop.

If you are on PC, you might want to try VoiceMeeter, which has its own ASIO driver, if ASIO4ALL doesn’t work for you. Although I’m not sure it will be much better.

But first make sure no other application is running in the background and using audio. This includes the web browser, even if there is no audio running. Because THAT may sometimes cause the issue.
Also, if the computer is exposed to internet, I don’t recommend turning off the firewall. Mine is on all the time and as long as it’s not on wifi, there is no problem.

the firewall is off only because I have a router firewall. So the software one is disabled. I just removed Fractal’s drive for testing. Really annoying because this interface is so much cleaner than my Focusrite interface. Really bumming out since I hoped this interface would solve my issue along with a nice upgrade. I can disable wifi while recording since I have a switch. I will
try that next.

thanks

seemed to work and now after trying to listen again after walking away it’s back. I’m wondering if the whole issue is just Reaper. I love the application, don’t get me wrong but what else do I need to change to get rock solid recording and play back with destroying my monitors ever time the signal breaks up.

Yes it will. Games on valve keep both their Mac and PC version in one copy.

———-

If that doesn’t say enough about VALVe.. Well it doesn’t actually. Nothing can tell you how amazing VALVe is. If you have not played Portal, do that now. Notice the company took their time to port this old game over to the Mac just so they can sell them for cheap. They care about customers, not money. Making games free for a limited time before they make a sequel… thats great marketing that makes everybody happy!

LOL, every and each company cares about money.

That game was awesome when it first came out.
I used to play it up close on a 120″ projection screen with 5.1 Surround system in the dark and it was very scary!

I wonder if Steam would let me play it on the Mac for free, considering I owned the Windows version.
I guess I’ll sign in later to see what happens.

If you still have your CD-Key, you simply need to activate your game on Steam and boom, they’ll show up in your library: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=5414-TFBN-1352.

I’ve just done it on my Mac with my CD-Key for Half-Life: Adrenaline Pack that I bought about 15 years ago for my Windows PC and all the games included in the CD showed up in my library.

Right now, only Half-Life and Counter-Strike (which show up as «Half-Life (Beta)» and «Counter-Strike (Beta)» on my Mac) are installable though.

———-

I took the train ride in the beginning of the game and got my answer when I looked at Barney — it’s the HD Barney. Doesn’t that mean it’s Half-Life: Source?

Maybe you’re playing with the «High Definition pack» that was included with the expansion Half-Life: Blue Shift turned on.

Oh yeeess!!! Finally, now I hope for Opposing Force

  • #54

Too little, too late.

I have the windows version and I see it in my mac library now, but the game is completely outdated to be enjoyed today, especially with Black Mesa mod out.

I don’t see why anyone may give 10$ for that game today, only if it is bundle with other valve games it worth getting it, just for nostalgia.

  • #55

Freaking took them long enough!

  • #56

OMG THIS IS GREAT NEWS! :D

As an all-time Counter Strike 1.6 player, this opens up for 1.6 on the Mac!! Have been missing this for a long time, and it’s the ONLY reason I have Windows installed via Boot Camp.

Hope Valve will port 1.6 too — it shouldn’t be so difficult as it’s just a mod for HL1 :D :D

  • #57

I had posted previously about the listing of files on the Linux version where Blue Shift and possibly Opposing Forces info was listed.

Here’s the output of the Half-Life directory:

Pretty interesting…blueshift and gearbox in particular.

I don’t know how excited I would get over that. When I downloaded the Portal and Portal 2 bundle a few weeks ago, it included the Level Editor.

Problem? It doesn’t work in Mountain Lion.

———-

Damn, people are still worked up over a 12 year old game?

Valve, unlike a lot of game developers, is squarely on the side of gamers. For example, I was able to pick up two incredible games — Portal and Portal 2 — for $6 as a bundle!! Who does that?? EA? Nope? Blizzard? Nope. They’re in it for those who enjoy their games, fantastic as they are. Left 4 Dead 2? I so got sucked into it, 32 hours logged before I knew what the Hell happened! «Best coop game ever» doesn’t do it justice!

Am I the only one who was hoping we’d see the OS 9 (Mac Classic OS ) version released? Even just for fun? ;)

Let me see if I can find my PPC 6100 or my Lombard.
I think my PB 520c can only run 8.1.

Maybe you’re playing with the «High Definition pack» that was included with the expansion Half-Life: Blue Shift turned on.

Thank you for the info

LOL, every and each company cares about money.

Well, sort of…some companies care about money to the exclusion of everything else and will do nothing without running the numbers and trying to maximize everything, whereas some companies will do something because they think it’s nice to do but doesn’t necessarily have any immediate tangible effect on the bottom line. Valve is run in a highly non-standard way, though it sounds like it would be an interesting place to work.

How about the Counterstrike Mod?

Amen. And The Specialists 3.0

———-

I wonder if this is a port of Half-Life: Source, or of the actual (Non-Source) Half-Life.

Non-source judging by the screenshots.

———-

Damn, people are still worked up over a 12 year old game?

Yeah.. it’s awesome.

———-

Really? There wasn’t much difference between the two though, just graphics, right?

No, different stories. But the graphics difference was amazing. I remember playing HL: Source and it was… «Wow… » back when it first came out.

———-

OMG THIS IS GREAT NEWS! :D

As an all-time Counter Strike 1.6 player, this opens up for 1.6 on the Mac!! Have been missing this for a long time, and it’s the ONLY reason I have Windows installed via Boot Camp.

Hope Valve will port 1.6 too — it shouldn’t be so difficult as it’s just a mod for HL1 :D :D

You still play 1.6? I would log on every once in a while…but I thought 1.6 was taken over by aimbots and walls. Unless… you are one of those aforementioned people?

No, same story. Half-Life: Source is just Half-Life ported to the Source engine, nothing more.

The Mac version is not available in Australia yet.

Yeah tis.

I took the train ride in the beginning of the game and got my answer when I looked at Barney — it’s the HD Barney. Doesn’t that mean it’s Half-Life: Source? I can’t see Valve porting the original HL1, which ran on an entirely different engine than the one they’ve already ported to OS X for HL2.

HL: Source actually uses the original character models, not the HD pack that came with Blue Shift. Though they could always be rectifying that in this version.

Damn, people are still worked up over a 12 year old game?

Sure, why not? It’s a game known today as a modern classic, a landmark title in the history of video games, and one that us Mac gamers (and us Dreamcast gamers…) were literally cheated out of — a nearly-complete version was created, but never shipped. Now we will have a chance to play it on our platform of choice. I’m looking forward to giving it a try, though I’ll personally hold off buying until there’s an official announcement from Valve — from the problems some folks are having, it’s sounding like maybe this is a late beta that sneaked out to the public before it was ready or something like that.

I can’t get this to launch :( it just sits at the Half-Life screen (the one with Gordon and his big gun) and for some reason keeps on invoking my screensaver. :rolleyes:

On my 2006 Macbook (2ghz, 2Gb ram, gma950), I’m getting an error on launch.

Fatal error :

Error initializing Main frame buffer.

I only get this error in full screen mode.

I can get the game to work using windowed mode….

I’ve looked the error on Google, and several Linux users are reporting the error.

Let’s hope for the best.

Anyone know how to disable the HD weapons? Don’t like them or the new sound effects.

The HD models are fine, just the weapons suck compared to the originals.

Well, the version I have in my steam library clearly says (Beta) on it. I bought it ages ago in the Orange Box. Never said that till now.

The bad news is that the game is literally older than my 7 year old 1,1.
The good news is that its a game my 1,1 can really render well.

tonight were gonna party like its 1999.

Not on the UK Steam store that I can see.

Half Life…say hello to my little friend, Mr. 4870. heh heh heh. This baby didnt come cheap but, then again, x2 anti aliasing and 25 FPS never does.

  • #74

Gosh when is Episode 3 coming out?

Yep. Some companies recognize that providing a product or service that makes your customers happy has a tendency to result in profits. As a result, they make happy customers priority one, and profits are simply a side-effect of achieving that.
