Steps to reproduce

  1. Navigate to «Run and Debug» in Visual Studio Code
  2. Add a launch.json that comes by default with Visual Studio Code
  3. Hit F5 or Start Debugging by pressing the Green Arrow.
  4. You will see that the project will start building, but will error out without starting the Debugger —
    Error processing ‘configurationDone’ request. Unknown Error: 0x800700c1

Expected behavior

Debugger should start and one should be able to setup break points and debug an application

@mazhan465 Can you share with me how this was compiled and your launch.json file contents?

@mazhan465 if you use the Visual C++ debugger on windows, the executable needs to be compiled with Visual C/C++. If you are debugging a gcc/g++ compiled app you need to choose gdb as the debugging option when initially setting up the launch.json file. You can delete the launch.json file and hit the gear button and choose the C++ (GDBLLDB) option.

Thanks.I have solve this problem for debuging with GDB.I think the error is that I haven’t compiled with vcbuildtools.

try creating a folder in the same environment of python or cpp and add your code file into it. then open the vs code, it worked for me. I was getting this error while coding in tensorflow python.

@haneeshh Is this with debugging C++? Your screenshot doesn’t show any error.

Whenever i try and build a program I get the following error message.

Unable to start program ‘File Path’
Operation not supported. Unknown error: 0x800700c1

I am running Visual Studio Community 2015, on a windows 10 system, currently coding with C++.
If any other info is needed let me know

It seems that it is not the unit test project, am I right? Which kind of VC++ app did you really run, console app or others?

Do you create it in your VS2015 locally? If you create a simple VC++ app, how about the result?

If you run/debug it in other VS machine, how about the result? If it worked well in other machine, at least, we could know that it is not the project code issue. But if it still has this issue, we would think about the project itself.

The reason why I want to know that whether you create it by yourself is that it doesn’t have the VC++ project template if you install your VS using the default option in the setup wizard.

In addition, please close all third party processes or «security» software in your windows.

    Whenever i try and build a program I get the following error message. 

    Unable to start program ‘File Path’

    I am running Visual Studio Community 2015, on a windows 10 system, currently coding with C++.

    It seems that it is not the unit test project, am I right? Which kind of VC++ app did you really run, console app or others?

    Do you create it in your VS2015 locally? If you create a simple VC++ app, how about the result?

    If you run/debug it in other VS machine, how about the result? If it worked well in other machine, at least, we could know that it is not the project code issue. But if it still has this issue, we would think about the project itself.

    The reason why I want to know that whether you create it by yourself is that it doesn’t have the VC++ project template if you install your VS using the default option in the setup wizard.

    In addition, please close all third party processes or «security» software in your windows.
