   [RESOLVED] Error Reading From Registry
   

   As a lot of you will already know I have been having some problems with a program that will shut down the computer at certain times and also after having not been used.

   There are a few bugs still in it that I can fix but there is one I cant. When I read in the value of checked2 and checked3 it always says that it is false no matter what is in the registry. I can’t fix it no matter what I do.

   There are a lot of bad programming practices in here but I was trying to get this done as quickly as possible with as few errors as possible.

   If anyone can help me out it would be great. As i’m not sure what is causing the error I am uploading the whole project. Thanks again.

   problem is this function and similar ones

   Code:

   Public Function RegReadChecked1() As Boolean

           RegReadChecked1 = False

           RegReadChecked1 = True

       checkBoxes
   End Function

   when this is called on Form1 load, it executes checkBoxes function, but at that time your checked1 is false. so it will make the check box unchecked , and its wrong. When check box is unchecked, it will wtrie False to registry since you are updating the registry on CheckBoxe’s Click event.
   One solution for this is to remove checkBoxes in above function and similar one’s.
   Or stop writing to registry in Check Boxe’s Click event.

   Put a break point in Form1’s Form Load and step thorugh the code.

   I think I get what your saying. Its giving the function the value and then changing the value when i call checkboxes? So the value of the function is incorrect?

   Not quite right I guess.

   See ,when you load Form1 , this function is called to get the value for checked1 boolen variable.
   But when this function is called, it sets the checked2 and checked3 to false because its calling the check box click event for all three Check Boxes in the first function.
   The function reads and writes at the same time. because it causes the click event of the check boxes to trigger.
   See the images for call stack when this happens

   

   This is when RegReadChecked1 is called and it goes upto Click event if Check 1

   

   This is when above function is executed, and it also cause the Click event of Check2 to trigger. This happens for Check3 also. But when this is happend , the Checked2 and Checked3 are false becuse the values are not rtrieved for them yet.

   Hopefully this time. So if I just put the code for the check box into the relevant sub for writing to the registry rather than all in one then it should work?
