Started getting this after I re-installed EU4. The first time I launched the game through Steam everything went fine and I proceeded through the launcher as normal, but now it’s giving me this error. I can launch the game normally through eu4.exe

Have you moved your Windows User Documents folder somewhere else perhaps?
Please try this:
— exit the Steam app completely
— uninstall Paradox Launcher v2 from the Windows «Apps and features» utility, if still present.
Delete the following folders if still present:
— C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/
— C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Local/Paradox Interactive/
— C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Roaming/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/
— run steam.exe as the Windows Admin user
— run EU4 from the Steam PLAY button
I hope that works for you!

Nope, it’s still in C:. EU4 (and presumably the Launcher) is uninstalled in D: however, could that be the root of the problem?

I think you’ll find the launcher is in C:
Please try installing EU4 in C: also; while that should not be a problem it is worth the test I think. Do the process in post #2 above afterwards.

I’ve not seen it before, but it looks like a file access issue. What antivirus do you use?

i do not have that file. I simply mounted the iso to /mnt/archiso according to the instructions at https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/PXE
there a many *.cfg files in /mnt/archiso/arch/boot/syslinux/, e.g.,
archiso.cfg, archiso_pxe32.cfg, syslinux.cfg, etc., but no «pxelinux.cfg»

Sounds like it’s trying to find the archiso CDROM in the PXE client. it needs to be mounting the NFS share.

my mounted archiso on the server is mounted on: /mnt/archiso.
here is my pxelinux.cfg/default. perhaps it may shed some light on where I’m falling short.

I did not install nfs-utils. I’d like to mount the root file system to tmpfs instead of using NFS.

It looks like you are skipping tftp entirely, and going with http serving of the kernel and initramfs files.
But you still have to give it a root in which it can mount to. which is normally NFS and maintains a continuous connection with the PXE server through a root mounted through NFS a the root. to use tmpfs, you need the whole image stored in RAM (which uses up free RAM), by storing all needed files in the initramfs image altogether. which can be a large file (still over the network). Mounting via NFS, allows the PXE client to ask for only the files it needs, which one client won’t necessarily need the same files as another client as is Arch uses a stateless diskless client setup. Other distributions make a static/stateful image for each individual client, which for mass usage is inflexible, when nothing else is different. With stateless IP, the PXE client can figure out that one IP address is already in use and just get another free IP to use.
So here you don’t even have a root= option, which maybe is the result of using archiso, Idk, I have a permanent PXE installation running off of another permanent installation (daily driver machine). It’s actually quite easy, you just make another installation, point pacman to the root of the installation, and you’ll need mkinitcpio-nfs-utils for it to compile your initramfs to use PXE. Usually a PXE client actually uses some less memory, because unless a disk is being used or accessed, it won’t be loading any disk modules which frees up memory.

Re: [SOLVED] PXE — «Unable to locate configuration file» error
Usually a PXE client actually uses some less memory, because unless a disk is being used or accessed, it won’t be loading any disk modules which frees up memory.
thank you for your detailed explanation. I was about ready to try NFS when I stumbled upon this: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Archboot
I downloaded the 3 image files and created a menu entry (http was significantly faster than tftp):
it boots up fast and I can ssh into the client with no manual intervention on the client side. this is helpful as I have a 12-year old computer (remote and headless) and this allows me to reboot the client, do admin tasks, then reboot back into the arch install on hd0
I’m switching between the two boot alternatives by swapping the two menu items in pxelinux.cfg/ not sure if that is the best way to alternate between them.
here is the file system info:
just for comparison, here is the output when i booted releng’s arch ipxe live netboot http://releng.archlinux.org/pxeboot/
I liked the arch live netboot as well, but it takes longer to boot and I can’t ssh into it without client side intervention — unless I’m overlooking something, e.g., append options.
I will try NFS soon so I can compare how it works in my use case vs. archboot

Have you moved your Windows User Documents folder somewhere else perhaps?
Please try this:
— exit the Steam app completely
— uninstall Paradox Launcher v2 from the Windows «Apps and features» utility, if still present.
Delete the following folders if still present:
— C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/
— C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Local/Paradox Interactive/
— C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Roaming/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/
— run steam.exe as the Windows Admin user
— run EU4 from the Steam PLAY button
I hope that works for you!

found a fix
try downloading the older version of the game inside properties and betas Yeah, that works. Sadly I was playing a mod so can’t go back. Seems it is a launcher problem. (What a shock. ) Thanks for helping out but seems I will need to wait on a fix.

UPD:
С новым декабрьским лаунчером перестали работать DLC, пишет «The DLC files appear to be corrupted». Раньше, с ноябрским лаунчером такого небыло.

I have been playing ME Legendary Edition via EA Desktop, via the EA Play subscription service. Everywhere I look online, I am told the configuration file should be located here
C:Program FilesEA GamesMass Effect Legendary EditionGameME2BioGameConfig
However, there is no Config folder in this location. The only folders I have are CookedPCConsole, DLC, Movies, and Splash.
I have played the first game, in it’s entirety, and have played an hour or two of the second. Neither of the game folders have a config folder, in the BioGame folder.
Am I missing something stupid obvious here?

@Holger1405 Yes installing it onto another drive/location seemed to have worked.
Unknown, if the solution is due to it being in another location, or if it any ole reinstall woulda fixed it. If I was a betting man, I’d say it was likely, that the location was the problem.
Thank you.

I don’t have EA Play, so my file path is a bit different:
C:Program Files (x86)Origin GamesMass Effect Legendary EditionGameME2BioGameConfig
I haven’t finished playing ME1LE, so I didn’t see the file at first. I fired up ME2LE to see if the Config file would appear and it did faster than a Collector attack.
Is it possible that the file may be hidden?

Did you looked under «DocumentsBioWareMass Effect Legendary Edition«?
Is there a «PCConsoleTOC.bin» file?

@sundance31us Yes I have all of those for the regular Mass Effect games, but not the legendary edition.

@Holger1405 Yes I did, interestingly enough, C:UsersCarlDocumentsBioWareMass Effect Legendary Edition only contains a save folder, launcherconfig.cfg and trilogygamerprofile
it does not contain the game’s config file or, a folder called config.
But, for the regular ME games, the documents folder does contain BIOgame/config with, everything you’d expect to see
C:UsersCarlDocumentsBioWareMass Effect 2BIOGameConfig
There is PCConsoleTOC.bin file.

Yes, in the old games the «Documents» folder was the standard folder for the «Config» folder.
I thought that the game might have got back to Momm if it had a problem creating the folder in your «BIOGame» folder in the game folder.
Search your PC for the «GamerSettings.ini» file. If you have the original games installed you should have 5 of them.
The two for the original ME2 & ME3 and three for the MELE. (If you have started LE3 already)
Wherever the «GamerSettings.ini» file is, your «Config» folder should be there as well.

@Holger1405 Yeah already did that, the only GamerSettings.ini files are for the regular ole mass effect games, nothing regarding the legendary edition which makes me wonder if this is a EA desktop subscription sorta thing, similarly to how Microsoft’s game pass has their installs, which are sometimes, similarly nebulous.

@xXTheBingsXx
The files in the «Config» folder are created from the «Coalesced_INT.bin». (or the local equivalents.)
(If you delete the «Config» folder it is just recreated from the settings in the «Coalesced_INT.bin».)
So it is possible that the game reads directly from the»Coalesced_INT.bin» if it can’t find a «Config» folder
It is also possible that the EA Play subscription version has a different file structure, I just saw no other reports about the «Config» folder missing, neither here nor on the Nexus.
What about a «BIOWeapon.ini»?

@Holger1405 I do have Coalesced_INT.bin
I also have BIOWeapon, BIOGame and BIOEngine.
Out of curiosity I decided to attempt to create a config folder, in the proper location, and I was told I needed administration permission to do so.
I am now wondering if the issue is, the game cannot create the folder itself. I am going to reinstall the game on another drive, and see if this is the problem.

Yeah, it had to be there, without it the game would not work.
Is that «BIOWeapon.ini?»
If yes, in what folder is it?

I assumed from the start that some permission isuue is the problem, the «C:Program Files (x86)» and «C:Program Files» folder have special protection inside Windows.
(It normally still should work.)
That is why I said it might be possible that the game reads directly from the «Coalesced_INT.bin», or the language variants if you play the game in a different language than English, if it can’t find a «Config» folder.
Installing it to another drive could very well solve the problem.
