• Hi! I am trying to install sql server 2014 express with advanced services and I am getting the error message «Extraction failed».  I have tried both versions 32bit and 64bit but the same results.  I am new user and I want to install sql
  server in order to practice what I study.  My laptop is pentium dual-core 2.20 GHz, RAM 4GB, system type 64bit, Windows 7 home edition.  I have been trying to fix this problem for hours, please help me.

Issue:

When uploading a DWG file to Autodesk Document Management (Docs), the upload fails with the following symptoms:
 

• In the folder view, the file icon shows as a broken or torn paper file:

• The dialog box at the right lower side of the screen shows the following, after the upload is completed:

Process
1 Failed.
Name.dwg
Processing failed.

• The following message appears in the Publish Log when clicking the red exclamation mark next to the Extract status:

Causes:

The file has been uploaded successfully to Docs and can be downloaded without problems. The sheets and views cannot be extracted, so they are viewable due to one of the following reasons:

• The file contains links (XREFs) to other files that are causing the issue.
• Model is placed on large X/Y coordinates in the drawing.
• There are OLE images in the DWG file.
• One of the layouts is not set to Extents. 
• The file contains too many objects, so extracting the properties takes too long.
• Corrupted layouts.
• Proxy objects introduced by 3rd party software.
• The drawing contains one Xref for which any of the preceding conditions apply.
• The file contains in the model space blocks with hidden geometry applied with x-clip. After disabling the command by tiping x-clip > select option «off» the block appear to have a huge amount of geometry that is not needed for the view. 

Solution:

Make sure that you have a backup copy of the file before applying any changes to the contents. Then check the extraction to narrow things down:

1. Open the DWG file in your AutoCAD product.
2. Run the command DWGEXTRACTORSCRIPTED.
3. When prompted for a JSON index file, enter «C:Temp» and run the command.

If the Publish that launches fails (check the command line), the extraction failed which is an indicator that there are too many objects in the drawing. Continue to the section «The file is too large/ Too many objects» below.

If the extraction test above succeeded, use one or more of the following approaches:

External references (Xrefs)

Detach external references (Xrefs) and try reuploading the host drawing. This helps you to narrow down the source of the issue:

• If the drawing fails to be processed after detaching XREFs, the references can be excluded from the investigation. Follow the following suggestions for the host drawing.
• If the drawing is processed successfully after detaching the XREFs, the host can be excluded from the investigation. Troubleshoot the references separately using the following suggestions.

Model is placed on large X/Y coordinates:

1. Move the model close to the origin (X=0, Y=0).
2. Move the viewports of the layouts to adapt them to the new model position.
3. Save the drawing and upload the new version to BIM 360 again.

​​​​​​OLE Images

Replace OLE images with PNG images:

1. In the drawing, save the OLE image to a PNG file.
2. Delete the OLE image from the drawing.
3. Attach the PNG image to the drawing.
4. Save the drawing and upload to BIM 360 again.

Layout Extents

Open the drawing and check if the layout is set up as expected. If necessary, change the plot area to Extents.
To set a layout to use Extents:

1. In the Layout tab, right-click and select Page Setup Manager.

1. In the Page Setup dialog box, under Plot Area, select Extents.

1. Save the drawing and upload to BIM 360 again.

The file is too large/ Too many objects:

• If the file was exported from a source software other than AutoCAD, try to change the export settings to reduce the complexity of the model. (For example, try to reduce the number of facets or the number of objects in the exported model).
• Use the following commands to remove redundant objects in AutoCAD:

1. RECOVERALL
2. AUDIT
3. PURGE
4. OVERKILL
5. WBLOCK
6. X-Clip > Off 

• Check if the file was exported (or even «exploded») from an infrastructure file like Civil 3D or Infraworks. Upload the native Civil 3D or Infraworks file instead of the exported DWG to avoid having too many objects in the file.
• Place all objects into a single block, if possible.
• Use the EXPORTLAYOUT command to export each layout to Model Space in a new drawing and upload the files to BIM 360 Document Management.
• «Outsource» objects as XREFs to other DWGs. (The properties of these objects will not be extracted):

1. Create a new DWG drawing (for example, XREF1.dwg).
2. In the original drawing (for example, Host .dwg), select objects. Cut and paste them into XREF1.dwg
3. In Host .dwg, open the XREF palette.
4. Insert the XREF1.dwg so that it matches the original position of the objects.
5. Repeat the process to further «outsource» object until the Host .dwg is light enough to be processed in BIM 360

• Check for complex blocks then, simply existing blocks in the drawing using the block editor to reduce the number of objects contained in the block.

Further possibilities to ‘clean up’ the DWG file:

• Re-Create the Layouts.
• Copy and paste the contents of the DWG file into a new file. (Make sure it is positioned close to the origin 0,0,0).
• If the malfunctioning file does not open, import it as a BLOCK in a new DWG file and EXPLODE it.
• Change XREFs type from Overlay to Attached.
• Follow the instructions in this article to remove possible corruption and proxy objects: Optimizing drawing files in AutoCAD with Purge, Audit & Recover.
• Repair corrupt DWG files: How to repair corrupt AutoCAD files.
• Select the objects in the drawing and use the WBLOCK command to save out the objects into a new file. 

Use an alternative file format to upload the drawing:

• Convert the drawing to a DWF file. (Plot to DWF printer within AutoCAD print/plot command.)
• For viewing reference, convert the DWG into a PDF and upload to Project Files folder.
• A DWG file (or multiple files) generated from a WBLOCK of a smaller area of the DWG.
• A DWG file that contains only AutoCAD elements — use the AECTOACAD command to convert AEC objects into plain AutoCAD elements.
• Split the DWG file in smaller several files (for example, files with only a few layouts and just the objects that need to be plotted).
