20) An exception occurred while trying to run shell32.dll Control_RunDLL hotplug.dll

Do the following:

— Go to Device Manager (Right-click My Computer -> Properties -> Hardware -> Device Manager
— Click Show Hidden Devices (View -> Show Hidden Devices)
— Unfold Storage volumes, right-click on each Generic volume -> Update driver (Choose Install from a list or specific location (advanced) -> Choose Don’t search. I will choose the driver to install -> Make sure that Show compatible hardware is checked then press Next).


21) BSOD sptd.sys

The cause of the issue is sptd.sys driver, it cause BSODs on most computers. Some malware camouflage themselves as sptd.sys, particularly if they are located in c:windows or c:windowssystem32 folder. The driver can be started or stopped from Services in the Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services (try to disable it and see if the issue persists). Thus check the sptd.sys process on your pc whether it is pest. We recommend Security Task Manager (http://www.neuber.com/taskmanager/index.html?ref=file.net) for verifying your computer’s security.

If you run Daemon Tools then you have to upgrade sptd.sys driver using the following link http://www.duplexsecure.com/downloads/

22) Failed to create scheduled task. Acronis error 1722 RPC server is unavailable.

Make sure that Acronis Schedule2 Service (Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services) Startup type is set to Automatic in Properties. If it is not so make it so.

If the above does not help, run the schedhlp.exe and schedul2.exe (C:Program FilesCommon FilesAcronisSchedule2) manually in Windows Task Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del -> Task Manager -> File -> New Task) or do the following:

Download schedmgr.exe from http://download.acronis.com/support/schedmgr.exe, it  allows you to start  Acronis Scheduler 2 Service.

Place schedlmgr.exe into the following directory C:Program FilesCommon FilesAcronisSchedule2 and do the following:

Run Start -> Run -> type cmd -> then follow the instructions below:

C:Documents and Settings[User]>cd
C:>cd program files
C:Program Files>cd common files
C:Program FilesCommon Files>cd acronis
C:Program FilesCommon FilesAcronis>cd schedule2
C:Program FilesCommon FilesAcronisSchedule2>schedmgr service install
C:Program FilesCommon FilesAcronisSchedule2>schedmgr service start

23) Error E000101F4 Unable to open (initialize) computer. No hard drives found.Download the latest SnapAPI archive file from http://download.acronis.com/support/SnapAPI_l_s_e.zip

Unpack the archive and install the unpacked MSI package it will fix the problem.


24) E00640003: The error was encountered while the installation. Acronis installation program encountered the error #1625: «This installation is forbidden by system policy. Contact your system administrator. (0xFFF0)
code = FFFFFFFF80070659 Tag = 0xBD28FDBDD64EDb816″.
  — Click Start -> Control Panel;
— Open Administrative Tools;
— Open Local Security Settings;
— Click Software Restriction Policies;
If no software restrictions are defined, right click the Software Restriction Policies node and select New Software Restriction Policy.
— Double click Enforcement;
— Select «All users except local administrators»;
— Click OK;
— Reboot the machine.
25) Error: User name or password for the remote resource is incorrect. Please check user name and password and type it again.When you map the drive, it becomes mapped only under your Windows account. Acronis True Image runs its tasks using the system account and so it is sometimes impossible to locate your mapped drive (especially when you are logged off). Please use the full UNC path (e.g. \servershare) instead of the mapped drive.

I have Acronis. and I’m currently trying to do a complete image backup and it is not working. I have most my important pics, video’s and music, and some documents on my Ext Hard Drive. but I want to do a complete image backup of my current HD.

When settings everything up in Acronis. I name it, set Compression settings and Priority, then when I hit Process to start the backup I get this error.

«E00640068: Failed to create the scheduled task

Failed to create the scheduled task. Error #1722 — «The RPC server is unavailable. (0xFFF0)
code = FFFFFFFF800706BA
Tag = 0xBD28FDBD64EDB821″.

What is this all about? Does anyone know? I got Acronis for free back when They were giving it out for free. It was in our Online Deals section a few months back.

It seems a Windows error. Look into your services and confirm a service called Remote Procedure Call (RPC) is started.

If you also want to backup files from an ext3, you may try creating the bootable media and backup from there…

I just checked, and it’s running. I googled Acronis error 1722 and someone said it was one of Acronis programs that load on startup.. and that it might be disabled, so I checked and I’ve went to msconfig and set the acronis scheduler not to run on every startup.. so I changed that, and still no luck.

I just reinstalled. I’ll try again after a reboot.

Make sure the task scheduler is running as well. I never make my images within Windows though.

what do you do it with??

I was thinking of running safe mode while I make it. and giving full priority to it..

I re-installed Acronis. and now it worked.. but instead of saying 5 hours to backup about 350GB.. it’s now saying 11 hours.. that is a LONG TIME. or is that only there guess.. and will my Quad actually get the job done much fasteR?? does anyone know.

My one beef with Acronis is that it does take a long time to do backups. I think that is one of the major differences between it and the likes of Backup Exec. Of course, you pay lots for $$ for Backup Exec.

So what is the best program I can use for safe, and good backup’s.. is there other good ways to do it other than making an image. I’ve actually never done it. I do have everything on an external. but I’d love to backup exactly everything I have now.. like it is.

So where could I get backup Exec.. or any other good ones for that matter.

I think I’ll just run Acronis tomorrow while I’m at work.. that should give it enough time on HIGH priority mode.

Backup Exec is mainly for backups not specific to creating images. Also mostly used on servers and small businesses. Try Norton Ghost. I haven’t used their product in a long time but it was one of the premiere utilities for creating images many years ago. Are you using images as part of your backup routine or is this a one time deal?

When I was using images as part of my backup scheme I would only do an image of a base system build. It would have all the drivers,patches and essential utilities included in that image. I would then use a backup of my applications and restore those separately or just install as needed.

Well.. ya this is a first time thing. but i need to do this more often. as I’ve lost everything before, and don’t want it to happen again..

Basically I was just going to make an image of my entire C drive and that is about 350GB.. but that is everything.. all my games, 3DMarks, little programs, and CS3, Lightroom. all my thousands of songs, music and pictures..

I guess I could just do a image backup of my main system like you say, but that would take a while to sort through everything in acronis before starting the process..

I guess I don’t «need» to backup the software. I can always install them as needed. I save all my serials and online receipts and such.

The best time to do a base image is when doing a fresh install. This way there is no «gunk» or loose ends to hose you later.

If you really want an image now then just go for the shebang like you originally planned. It will just take some time and it may not take the

whole amount of time as reported.

The main thing is to backup whatever data (pictures, files, config files,game saves) you will need should you have a failure on your drive.

Personally, I like starting from scratch when having to do a build for whatever reason. This gives me a chance to cleanup and not install stuff I

really dont use often.

I suggest creating a list in Excel or notepad, of what your restore process is going to be. You will use this as your checklist. Verify that you

have all the source files, registration codes, and contact info for the vendors.

Of course that list is only good if you print it out prior to your build or if you have another PC. The latter is the best choice. Less pressure to get things fixed and lots of resources on hand in case of issues.

I see.. ya well I’m just trying to be safe. I have most my pics, audio, and video as well as some main serials and install files all saved on the ext.. Now I’m just wanting to do the image before installing the new drive that is coming, and before dual booting Windows 7 just to be safe.. although I’m sure 7 will be fine..

I’ve always ran Acronis from the bootable CD or bootable HDD and never had a problem, don’t let windows in on the act if you don’t have to.
