   game will now start with the new video settings

   this game has a minimum requirement of DirectX7 compatible hardware

   im still wondering who is the evil… isnt valve able to make a right detection of system settings or is that only to annoy FX users

   this driver is optimized for the 6x.xx and 7x.xx Generation Card — not for FX.

   Use the 56.72 ist the best for my 5600 256 MB!!!!

   Does the 56.72 support the newest games ?

   And is it better the forceware 56.72 or the XG 56.72 ?

   I was using the 77.13 HD before i tried this one .. and it was all right .

   foofi, sorry, but thats stupid!

   go to nvidia website, choose gfx driver, win xp and you will get the 77.72 website and NOTHING there says ONLY GF 6 or better GFX card !

   new drivers = new fixes! bugs are everywhere. i will not sit on a driver which is 2 years old!

   71.89 worked ok too, so i dont see why this one shouldnt work too!

   i want opengl 2.0 support too — so nvidia or valve, move your a$$ and fix this !

   that error normally comes up when using a refreshrate forcer ie reforce.

   maybe the drivers are forcing it? check your driver refreshrate settings.

   Same problem here, reinstalled the 77.50 and same problem. The I driver cleaned them, reinstalled them…. Damn Same problem. What’S wrong? This is the only program that dont work anymore.

   This happens on all drivers above 77.50 for me. And I have a 6800GT so it’s a driver specific bug I guess, not card.

   It only happens for me in 1280*1024 res tho, if I press ok change it runs flawlessly in 1024*768 but looks like crap because it’s not the monitors native resolution.

   Currently using XG 77.13 and working fine

    back on 71.89 and everything is fine again.

    im not sure if my next gfx chip will have a nvidia chip on it

    -driver support sucks the last months…
    -all FX users were fooled with the bad DX9 performance — damn, i paid 529€ for this card when i got it!
    -trilinear/anisotropic filter optimizations just to win crap benchmarks — who cares if a game has 500 fps or 300 fps damn… the image quality could be so much better…

    i really dont know what to get when i need a better card …

12. No FarCry anymore

    Hi all

    Well i just install the new WHQL 77.72 from nvidia’s site. All was just fine (i mean fine good IQ) so i went to try these good looking drivers on FarCry. wtf farcry would not even start. So it’s not just hl2-cs s. Thats funny becuse with tho’s games beta driver 77.50 work,ed just fine. So do you people think Nvidia is starting to **** up i kind of think so.

    (Note) That’s two games now. Any more

    I like to add i just install,ed Nvidia’s WHQL 66.93 and FarCry is work’ing just fine now . So i think nvidia is mess’ing things up a little. Or do you think i am wrong

    I fixed the problem by myself.

    Reinstalled the 77.50 problem still there so I tough, WTF!!
    Driver cleaned theses bit**ses. Reinstalled 77.50… WTF again! Was working before….
    Anyway, I installed the 77.13. Fine, no more problem. But IQ is Sh*ty
    Then reinstalled the 77.50. Problem Solved!

The fact that the new drivers are on the Nvidia page is not a sign saying all users with cards that are 2 generations old need to use them , thats why they offer the older drivers with a little look you will find them on that page also , simple fact is at one point you will have hit the roof and there is no gains at all or even bug fix’s really I mean if there is a bug fix that is the exact one you need then that is the only valid reason to use the drivers because if you think there is a gain in performance to be had them your wrong. You need to just find the driver you like and thats it leave it at that , stop acting as if 2 years later you are spose to be first in line.

    im not one of the idiots running 3dmark with every driver release and posting stupid fps which is stupid coz of the cheats, errrr. optimizations. i know what my card can do and what not.

    tried playing hl2 with old driver — lost about 15 fps average.

    when i look back, nvidia is still not able to support the gf6 series with a driver which makes no trouble! temp problem, desktop icon problem, gamma problem, problem with via chipset… and so on..

    you read it every day in the guru forum

    they put something on the market and they are done — poor

    I get the same problem with HL2 and CS:S, reinstalled the drivers several times and no difference. I’ll see if they still don’t work when my Geforce 6600 arrives on Monday. Otherwise I’ll just go back to the 77.30 that came with the BF2 demo

What your realy saying is if you have a Geforce 7800 GTX & you download (WHQL) 77.72 you can play HL2-CS S and play FarCry …etc. But if you have a any other Geforce card & you download (WHQL) 77.72 you can’t run these games. That just dot sound right to me. What’s going on here nvidia

20. First for Gary sorry all of those problems I have not one single one of them and I have the GF6 and VIA chipset ,

    I think most of the time its user error and just lack of knowledge that cause’s a lot of problems then there is the long known fact that any card any driver will act somewhat different on any setup, this is a very well known fact it is not either nvidia or ati…
    … just video cards and drivers

    but dont forget the games there are so many games that are just really coded poorly, and are thrown out there full of bugs.

    There has never been and never will be the perfect card or perfect driver and if you cant understand that then you need to go outside and look around and when you find anything that is perfect come back and tell me what it is.

    I am sure most of you understand that video cards and drivers tend to work better for the time frame they are made meaning the gf4 cards work all around better with the drivers made around the same time as the cards, the fact that they still work years later is proof that either nvidia or ati are pretty good at trying to make things a little easier for the less well schooled computer freaks and geeks who know that we are not spose to use the «brandnew drivers» with the 3 years old card.

    I think I covered most of what I was really trying to say .

Вот решил посмотреть на это чудо, которое многие хвалят.

Взял диски, установил, запускаю — появляется мужик с непонятным красным левым глазом, логотип VALVe, видимо. Играет музыка.
Потом появляется надпись, о копирайтах. После чего музыка стихает — игруха вылетает, появляется MessageBox:

«<Video Mode Warning>

Failed to set video mode — resetting to defaults.

Game will now restart with the new video setting»

Перезапуск дает тоже самое.

Чего можно сделать?

P.S. Win2000, DX9c, разрешение рабочего стола стоит 1024 x 768 x true color

P.S.S. Диски пиратские, но у знакомого игра запустилась без проблем

видюха GeForce Ti 4200 — а какая разница?

В гугле сейчас ищу… похожие проблемы есть, но решения пока не помогают…

разница большая, на ТНТ такое видал(не без мессажа) попробывать удалить файл конфигурации(или переименовать). Насильно выставить Директ пониже(mat_dxlevel 70). Скорее всего понадобится патч на звуки(что бы рты раскрывали), называется lipsync_patch.exe

ЗЫ У меня тоже была пиратская копия, тоже титаниум, и тоже DX9c. Но работало.

Поставил в DX частоту обновления в 100

раньше по умолчанию стояло — нигде проблем не было
