Здравствуй выживший. Сегодня мы поговорим о том как поиграть в Fallout 2 с подходящим разрешением рабочего стола для широкоформатных мониторов 1920х1080. Технологии шагнули далеко вперед, мониторы стали больше, а игры устаревали в техническом плане. Хорошо что есть фанаты которые выпускают модификации, которые позволяют играть в старые игры комфортно.

Статья разбита на две главы.

1. Установка и настройка.

2. Если что, то пошло не так.

Глава первая

Установка и настройка.

Для этого нужно установить мод HIGH RESOLUTION PATCH автором которого является «Mash» Matt Wells. Ниже я расскажу как его установить и починить если возникнут проблемы в процессе запуска. Мод любительский, но количество нюансов с его настройкой и установкой на удивление немного.

Данный патч модифицирует файл «fallout2.exe», что позволяет запускать игру в более высоких разрешениях экрана. Подходит для версий US 1.02d, UK 1.02e, французской 1.02d, немецкой 1.02d, китайской и русской от «Левой Корпорации». Для версий от 1С и Фаргуса тоже подойдёт, ибо они являются модификациями версии US 1.02d. Для нас как жителей СНГ интереснее всего будет перевод «Левой Корпорации» или «Фаргус», но это дело вкуса.

You mean the patch that comes with the game from steam, that Bethesda provided?
or are you telling me I need to go and fix something that neither company has payed any attention to?

Open f1_res_Config.exe and change the Graphics Mode to «DirectX 9» and then enable windowed mode.

Open f1_res_Config.exe and change the Graphics Mode to «DirectX 9» and then enable windowed mode. Done. I get a window for one second, then it collapses and the error message returns.

Disable «run on 640×480 screen resolution»

Set SCR_WIDTH=640 and SCR_HEIGHT=480

Also try running as administrator if none of that works.

Okay, we’re going to have to try something ridiculous:

Delete ddraw.ini, run it again. If that doesn’t work, reinstall the high-res patch.

I recently bought the Fallout Series pack as it was on sale.
I installed Fallout and Fallout 2, and it seems that they installed properly (Steam hasn’t notified me of anything wrong)
However, when I launch the game I get an error saying «Error initializing video mode 640×480» and the game never launches.

I am running Win7 64 bits.

I looked through a few forums and they say that we can fix this by downloading the hi-res patch update, but it didn’t work for me.
Regardless, I think it’s crazy that Steam allows to sell a game that won’t play on modern systems.

I feel completely ripped off.

I don’t want to spend 4hours trying to figure out how to patch/mod the game just so I can play it, when I can just pirate it and get it playing directly.

Did anyone encounter this problem ? How did you fix it? Is Steam aware of this ?

I have the same problem, but I think there are mods which can fix this. Can anyone help me out?

Ok so after some research, it seems that this error will occur on most modern systems.

I think it’s shocking that steam proposes a purchase without at least telling us that there is this compatibility problems. Did they even test it before releasing?

Also, apparently the patches and the mods that fix this problem can be applied on the 1.1 version of the game, but not the version 1.2, which is the one Steam gives. The 1.2 is not an official version, it’s the Steam release (basically the difference is that it forces the steam client to be opened for the game to be launched).

So all in all, Steam sells a product that won’t run on current hardware for the most cases, and doesn’t warn the buyers, and to top it off they modded the game to fit their requirements, without regards for the fact that it blocks any modifications on the game that would actually fix the problem.

Not gonna buy them, because I’m not gonna pay twice for the same game, but for anyone wanting to buy that game I’d recommend going there, at least for older games since they always make sure they are compatible with current systems, run in full screen etc.

This guide tells you how to use high-res textures, which is nice, and incidentally fixes the video problem (at least it did work for Fallout 2).

I recall telling myself : «I should always buy games, if only to avoid all the hassle of patching / cracking / modding a game before playing»

[A] Темные очки +1 Cha.
Откус уха Мастикатоpом +3 Cha (или -1), после патча только -1.
Хабологистка в NCR +2 Luck (или -1).
Memory modules для Brotherhood’а +1 Str +1 Per +1 Cha +1 Int.
Power armor +3 Str (APA +4).
С помошью пеpка gain статс.
Дpугих способов нет.

[Q] Я взял пеpк «Gain INT», но количество скиллпоинтов пpи повышении уpовня осталось пpежним, это баг?
[A] Да, это баг, однако количество скиллпоинтов увеличивается после опеpации по повышению INT в Brotherhood of Steel. Аналогичная ситуация с gain END — HP per Level не меняюися. Еще следует помнить, что влияние наpкотиков и дpугие вpеменные изменения статсов пpи повышении уpовня не учитываются.

[Q] Мне не дают квест «Get a lot of cash, exp and equipment» , что делать ?
[A] Hекотоpые квесты можно получить только пpи высоких паpаметpах пеpсонажа, напpимеp Per, Cha и дp.

[Q] Я стеp игpу, но сохpанил каталог SAVEGAME, а тепеpь на свежеустановленной игpе из этого каталога ничего не загpузить
[A] Hадо было еще сохpанить файл worldmap.dat.
