Fallout new vegas error unable to find an ini file please reinstall

So I tried to install fallout new vegas again, I have previously installed and played the game successfully on this same machine some time ago, but when I started it up today, it showed the error message «Unable to find INI file. Please reinstall fallout.» before going to the launcher and starting the game resulted in an instant crash.

I have tried doing the following:
-making a backup and restoring the game from the backup (found this as an apparent fix on the internet)
-reinstalling (redownloading) the game
-verifying the game cache (multiple times)
-checking out the directory where the INI should be (documents/MyGames/falloutnv): I have found that I was missing the fallout_default.ini -> I got the file from the internet and put it there, it still didn’t work
-putting that dll file in the install directory thats supposed to fix both fallout 3 as well as nv
-deleting the fallout nv directory in MyGames and verifying the game cache so it would maybe download the INI: It redownloaded the folder but it is now missing BOTH the fallout_default.ini and the fallout.ini, verifying again doesn’t do anything

googling the issue brings up a lot of people with the same problem but none of the solutions have worked for me. Does anyone have an idea what I could do to fix this?

Предлагает переустановить игру, пробовал, не помогло. Кэш тоже проверял, может кто с таким сталкивался?

У меня решилось переустановкой с внешнего накопителя на локальный диск D

попробуй найти файл с форматом ini,может даже config.ini.и скинуть в папку с игрой.может и поможет

1. стоит ли у вас GeForce Experiance?
2. имя пользователя и компьютера написаны на русском или Английском ?
3. какой антивирус установлен ?
4. отвечает ли ваш компьютер минимальным системным требованиям?

да, помогла, плюс, попробуй устанавливать без прерывания, а то у меня бывало ноут в спящий режим уходил, пока steam игру качал

Просто запустите игру через fallout 4.exe в папке с игрой, потом в самой игре измените графику сохранитесь и все, потом можно запустить через ланчер

а что на счет GeForce expirience? он должен стоять или лучше снести?

Решил проблему запустив игру через лаунчер в папке с установленной игрой. GeForce expirience не трогал.

Решил проблему запустив через приложение в папке, но теперь не настроить графику и игра запускается в окне. что делать?

теперь сохранись в игре выйди. запускай через лаунчер и настраивай графику как хочешь)

Проблема эта в сохранениях игры, у меня лично стоит win 10, и после того как я скопировал сохранения в папку на onedrive в папку документы все запустилось, посмотрите у себя в папке с сохранениями должен быть файл fallout4.ini, и посмотрите в правильной ли папке они лежат.

Ошибку в «Fallout 4»: fallout 4 unable to find an INI file, игроки смогли решить таким образом.
Нужно создать папку «Fallout4» в My Games, дальше нужно проверить кэш игры в стиме через «свойста» и верифицировать кэш. Дальше в «яндексе» нужно ввести «СКАЧАТЬ fallout.ini» и открыть 3-ую ссылку на файлообменнике (Rghost, так рекомендуют игроки, которым помогло).
Файл, который вы скачали забрасываем в папку «Fallout4».
Стим запускаем от имени администратора.
Далее нужно запустить Лаунчер Fallout4 в папке с игрой, причем только от имени администратора.
Игра должна после этого запустилась.

Зайти в папку steam, steam apps и удали эту игру, потом установи ещё раз. Проблема не решена тогда пиши мне

не, на 90% уверен, что переустановка тут не поможет. попробуй нагуглить файлы, которых не хватает. то есть тот ini файлик. кинь в папку с игрой, и запусти снова

Yes you do have one, you wouldn’t be able to start the game if you didn’t. The «ini» part might not be showing up because for some reason Windows by default hides known extensions. You should change that setting in your folder options.

You can find it in Documents/My Games/FalloutNV. There will be two files there, Fallout.ini and FalloutPrefs.ini. Or just Fallout and FalloutPrefs if the extension is hidden. You want the first one I mentioned.

Open any folder, select «View» at the very top. Click on «Options» and select «Change Folder and Search Options». Select «View» once again and in the menu that pops up look for «Hide Extensions For Known File Types». Uncheck the box that’s right next to that line. When that’s done, click the «Apply to Folders» and choose «Yes».

I’m really not sure why Microsoft hides extensions by default, it confuses people more than it helps them.
