Focus error»:

Focus error»:

Focus error»:

Error messages may appear on the camera for various reasons — memory card, lens or camera malfunction.

Deleted Pictures In a Fujifilm Camera

  1. Use a Data Recovery Program:

Incorrect use of a camera or a memory card or other unintended actions can make pictures in the memory card to become damaged or lost.

Recover lost or damaged files with the help of data recovery software. Scan your memory card with Hetman Partition Recovery and restore the files you have found (pictures or videos) in the form they appear in the preview window.

The tool recovers data from any devices, regardless of the cause of data loss.

You can download the software for free to make sure that your files can be recovered. To find your way with the program read the manual.

Memory Card Errors

If the «Focus error» message is related to a memory card error in a Fujifilm camera, do the following:

  1. Connect The Memory Card:

In digital and reflex cameras, photo and video files are mostly saved to a memory card. If the memory card is not connected to the camera, it can show an error message.

«Focus error»: Connect the memory card

In this case connect the memory card to the camera or, if it is already connected, make sure such connection is proper.

  2. Disconnect And Reconnect The Memory Card Again:

If a memory card error has occured, disconnect it from the camera. Before doing that, don’t forget to switch the camera off. After you have taken the memory card out of its slot, make sure its contacts are not damaged or dirty.

«Focus error»: Disconnect and reconnect the memory card again

Insert the memory card into the proper slot of your camera again.

  3. Unlock The Memory Card:

Make sure the memory card is not locked. The memory card lock switch (for SD cards) should be in the unlocked (upper) position.

«Focus error»: Unlock the memory card

Otherwise, if the memory card is unlocked and there is an error saying it is still locked, you’ll have to format the memory card.

    Go to view

How to Unlock a Write Protected USB Drive, a SD or Micro SD Memory Card or a Hard Drive

How to Unlock a Write Protected USB Drive, a SD or Micro SD Memory Card or a Hard Drive

  4. Format The Memory Card:

If disconnecting and reconnecting the memory card did not yield any result, format it. Before formatting the car, make sure all files from there are copied to another media, because formatting will delete all the files from your memory card.

If formatting cannot be performed, it means the memory card is out of order and it has to be replaced.

    Go to view

How to Fix a Flash Drive for a Computer, TV or Car Audio

  5. Take Pictures or Make Films In Lower Resolution:

If while shooting a film your camera stops the process of recording/saving and flashes an error message, it may indicate insufficient read/write speed of the memory card. This speed can be low both because of the camera overheating and because of the speed restrictions set by the manufacturer.

In this case, we recommend reducing the resolution of the pictures you are taking or videos you are making.

  6. Clean Or Replace The Memory Card:

The camera can flash an error if its internal memory/memory card is full. In the camera’s menu, change the settings so that files are saved to the memory card instead of the camera’s internal memory. Transfer files from the memory card to the computer or clean it to continue your work.

«Focus error»: Clean or replace the memory card
  7. Try Testing The Memory Card With Another Device:

If a memory card is not recognized by the camera, connect it to another camera or device to make sure it works properly with them.

  8. Use a Memory Card Compatible With Your Camera:

A camera can flash an error if an incompatible memory card is inserted. Replace such memory card with the one compatible with this camera according to the manufacturer’s recommendations.

Lens Error

If the «Focus error» message is related to a lens error in a Fujifilm camera, do the following:

  1. Disconnect And Reconnect The Lens Again:

Disconnect the lens from the camera and make sure that its metal contacts are clean and intact as well as the lens contacts on the camera body.

«Focus error»: Disconnect and reconnect the lens again

If reconnecting the lens and cleaning its contacts haven’t fixed the problem, the camera may need repairing.

  2. Make Sure The Camera And The Lens Are Compatible With Each Other:

A lens error may result from trying to connect a lens model which is incompatible with your camera. Make sure your camera model is compatible with the lense model according to the manufacturer’s recommendations.

  3. Switch The Camera «Off» And Then Switch It «On» Again:

A camera can show an error because of its lense jammed or blocked during the transportation. For some reason, the blocking may not be disabled.

If the camera reports a lense error, switch it off and then switch it on again.

  4. Update The Camera’s Firmware:

A camera’s lens error may occur because the device needs updating its firmware. Go to the camera manufacturer’s website to check for latest firmware and update it if a newer version is available.

File Damage Or File Error

If the «Focus error» message is related to a file integrity error in a Fujifilm camera, do the following:

  1. Copy Files To The Computer And Format The Memory Card:

If the camera fails to read files, copy them to the computer and try opening them on the computer. Then format the memory card.

The pictures or videos may have been taken with another camera model and therefore cannot be read by your particular device.

  2. Insert Another Memory Card Into Your Camera:

If your camera reports a damaged file error, and formatting the memory card did not help, connect another memory card (which works properly) to your camera.

If the error does not appear again, then your memory card must have been damaged or broken. If the error occurs again and again, it indicates more serious problems, and you’d better go to a service center to fix them.

  3. Try Taking A Picture Once More:

If the camera cannot complete the process of saving or compressing a picture and flashes an error message, try taking a picture again. Picture file format may need to be changed, or there may be a processing function failure.

  4. Unlock The File Which Is Marked “Read Only”:

If you cannot delete a photo or video file with the help of your camera, it may be marked “read only.” Go to the file properties tab and uncheck the box “read only” using your computer or camera menu (if such function is provided by the manufacturer).

    «Focus error»:Unlock the file which is marked «Read only»

Power Error

If the «Focus error» message is related to a power error in a Fujifilm camera, do the following:

  1. Disconnect And Reconnect The Battery Again:

If there is an error related to your camera’s power supply, disconnect and take out the battery (accumulator cell). Make sure the battery was connected to the camera properly. Make sure the battery model corresponds to the camera model. Make sure the battery contacts are not damaged or dirty. If all the previous actions yielded no result, you battery may be out of order.

«Focus error»: Disconnect and reconnect the battery again
  2. Charge The Battery:

Some activities of the camera consume much power from the battery. For example, if you need to clean a digital camera sensor, the battery has to be fully charged. If the camera detects that the battery level is insuficient for a certain action, it will report a battery low error. In this case, you need to charge the battery.

  3. Cool The Battery:

If the camera’s battery is overheated, it may stop charging and indicate this problem by flashing the accumulator charge light. In this case, let the battery cool down to normal temperature and make sure its contacts are not dirty.

Common Or System Error

If the «Focus error» message is related to a common system error in a Fujifilm camera, do the following:

  1. Switch The Camera «Off» And Then Switch It «On» Again:

If your camera reports a common or system error, switch it off and then switch it on again.

A camera may become overheated when used intensively. Wait for the device to cool down to normal temperature and then switch it on.

  2. Reload The Camera:

To reload the camera switch it off, take out the memory card and disconnect the battery. Wait 15 minutes and put the camera together in the reverse sequence. If the error is still there, your camera may need repairing.

    «Focus error»: Reload the camera
  3. Charge Or Rreplace The Internal Power Supply:

A common or system error may result from discharge of the camera’s internal battery (which also controls the camera’s time and date settings).

«Focus error»: Charge or replace the internal power supply

In this case, you will have to replace or charge the internal power supply (depending on the format of such power supply).

  4. Transfer Your Pictures To The Computer:

If pictures in the memory card are taken with another camera, viewing them can produce errors. It happens because the camera cannot show such pictures in full size and only displays their icons.

Transfer your pictures to the computer to vie them in full size.

  5. Connect The Camera’s Cable To a Computer Or a Printer:

When transferring pictures from the camera to the computer or printing them from the camera you may encounter a connection error.

Make sure that the camera’s cable is connected properly to a computer or a printer. Check if the cable fits firmly into the connection socket. After that, switch the camera off and then switch it on again.

Fujifilm FinePix S9600

Are you using a UV filter with an adapter? If so, putting this on backward will restrict the lens from breathing in and out thus it was unable to focus freely, causing this error. message. This happened to me and I had to keep powering off/on the camera until I figured it out. Good Luck!

I hope someone has more ideas.  First thing I would do would be remove battery, then re-install.  But I imagine you already tried that.  There may be a more powerful reset but I have never heard of one.

Focus Error! is quite common with my X100F!! Normally it’s fixed with a turn off/on. But not this time. Also battery removal did nothing. So it’s off to Fuji, where it can meet its friend (my XPro2) which is also sick. I’m anticipating an eye-widening repair bill …

Marry me! Yes, I do use a UV filter. Plus I have an adapter attached to it to use a hood. Just taken all of them off. And … we are go again. Screwed UV on in reverse. Still OK. Added adapter & hood. Still OK.

HUGE THANKS (especially as I have $100 repair bill for an XPro2 and I also live in Thailand, where communications with Fuji Thailand in Bangkok are ‘problematic’ and drink-inducing.)

Thanks for kicking off 2019 on a high note.

This is the #1 cause of lens error ever since the original x100 came out. I’m glad everything worked out.

A solution? What solution. The problem is that any filter stops lens focus movement,

What about the adapter ring I use to attach my JJC lens hood? Does this affect lens movement too? Presumably the official Fuji lens hood also requires an adapter ring. If so Fuji are (knowingly?) contributing to the problem.

i used to have a u/v filter + hood adapter ring’sttached. I had further Focus Error! problems so I’ve removed the filter. Let’s see what happens now.

As mentioned before, it’s a pity Fuji haven’t put out an advisory note on this. I did ask for clarification on several Fuji Twitter sites. Still waiting.

The solution is using a threaded spacing ring that just puts a space between a too thick filter mount or lens hood. I have been successfully doing this with an extra thin B&W filter on a 60mm macro which displayed a focus error when used on infinite (or thereabouts).

This is an example of a spacing ring which has the same thread back/front and thin mount in between (you need to find the right thickness)

I currently have only an adapter ring on to which the lens hood screws (JJC kit). (Previously I had a u/v filter + adapter ring.)

Are you suggesting I get a thin adapter ring to fit between lens & lens-hood adapter?

yes, a spacer,  not an adapter, there are special spacers, this serves the purpose to allow focusing without impeding the movement of the lens (which is causing the error) of course the spacer has to be thin.

I had this problem when I used my 60mm with a different lens hood than the gigantic original one. I used UV filter by B&W which was thin enough not to jam the focusing movement when focusing at infinity or longer distances.

Just one more query: if I use a thin spacer, can I return to using a u/v filter? So I would have: spacer + u/v + adapter ring for hood.

Thanks for your helpful replies.

By any chance, do u also own an XT20?

It al depends from the thickness of the system. I don’t see why not. I have an X-T1 and I am still using it. I am no longer using the 60mm macro.

I have an adapter, UV filter, and hood combo on my X100F and have never had the error come up. I’ve used the trio on my X100S and X100T also with no problems. The key is to use filters that are thin enough not to block the path of the lens movement. FYI, I’ve always used B+W filters on my X100’s.

I would suggest you purchase the least expensive 49mm filter available, remove the cheap ‘glass’ and use that in reversed form to mount the quality filter to your camera. Or do as I did, and purchase a complete adapter ring/lens hood from Amazon.

If you are using the JCC lens hood adapter, thread that on first… then the filter onto the adapter. This provides the needed room for the lens to move.

Hello StephenPG

Thanks for the advice. I was doing that: JJC adapter ring + u/v  filter + JJC hood. Focus issues disappeared after I removed the filter!

I traded in the X100F for a 100V. A YouTuber recommended using a B+W filter to sandwich between the JJC adapter and lens hood, which I’ve done. No focus issues to date. So same system as before, just different filter. I’m not sure if the B+W is thicker or thinner than the previous one (just cheap, off the shelf). The lens on the 100V has been tweaked, so maybe it doesn’t travel out as far as the one on the 100F. Excuse my lack of technical geekery.

If I meet an 100V owner who has ‘weather sealed’ the lens using Fuji’s pricey official adapter, it may be worth doing a thickness comparison.

Wow. Just experienced this lens lock with the UV filter on, but just added the hood spacer and then the UV and I’m ready to go. Super helpful! Thanks.

Have the “focus error” on an x100f. Using an fpro uv filter. How do you screw it in backwards. I have the adapter ring and a hood. Ready to return the filter.

Sorry: can’t remember what I did with the 100F. With 100V: removed the lens adapter ring (that came with the camera); replaced it with the JJC ring (came with hood); screwed B+W filter into it; attached hood to it.

With the 100F, I may have added a spacer ring before adding the JJC ring. Instead of screwing this in clockwise, it was turned around (ie backwards) and the inner ring screwed in anti-clockwise. Try a Google search for better help.

Thanks Waldo, I used the ring that came with the hood and it works. I would have rather screwed it directly to the lens to keep it more compact, but that’s life. Thanks for your response. 📷

Hi All! New to the X System here, but have been a photographer for most of my life. Just picked up the GFX 50S ii and am really excited to have a digital medium format. This completely divorces me from film and being locked into Bronica Zenza, which has been very good. I also use full format Nikon z6ii, z7ii, D5, D3, and F3 for assignments when I am not shooting portrait, landscape, or architecture…

Glad to be here and sure a bunch of questions will come up and look forward to participating in this forum.

      Hi,

      I think I have a similar issue.

I own an xpro 3 since December. Before that I had an x100s

Most of the Time the shutter is reacting as expected. Sometimes, often multiple times in a row, the shutter just does not seem to react properly when full pressing. It takes 2 sec to fire for example, after fully pressing down. Or just a half a second longer than normal. I often thought my finger was a bit off the shutter but over time I am really convinced it is the camera. It is as if a full press does not register for a short moment.

mis this what you are describing as well?

I am shooting a manual lens and have tried multiple settings. I first thought the boost mode solved it, but now it returned. I am not shooting with clarity. I also ruled out an almost empty battery as I had it just after a full charge.
Often I thought it returned each time I connected the camera to the computer but this as well does not seam the origin.

I still believe it is somehow a software issue easily resolved but fail to find it.

have you send it in to check with Fuji?

thank you for keeping us updated.

      greetings

      bert

Fuji X10 — Focus Error! Is This Really The End?

Jun 12, 2016

On turning the X10 on yesterday I got a screen warning I have not seen before — «Focus Error» — complete with a yellow exclamation point at the beginning.

It had last been used a week ago on a ramble around the city with my dog. At home I had taken the card out of the camera and uploaded it to the iMac. The camera sat on the computer table until I picked it up yesterday.

I took the battery out and put it back in. No change. I recharged the battery. Still no luck. I visited the Fuji website to see if there were any FAQs which would deal with my issue. Nothing there.

While being an owner of the X10 has not been without drama, I would miss the little guy if I could no longer reach for it on the way out the door. I did more recently pick up a sony NEX 3N and the 16-50 lens for $150. but the X10 was still a favourite.

What little I found surfing the net does not sound promising.

Perhaps you can fill me in on the Focus Error issue? Is the a sign that my camera is dead? Is there a simple fix that can bring it back to life?

Also — and it may be related — when I turn off the camera the lens makes a funny stuttering noise that I have never noticed before.

I am positively the last guy in the universe that should respond…..but:

1 — noises are never good. Perhaps a macro motor dying.

2 — did you try a firmware update?

3 — the camera knows you bought a new one and is simply pouting.

I do hope this gets fixed!

Re: Fuji X10 — Focus Error! Is This Really The End?

This is a fix I read on someone else’s thread about focus error warnings. Turn on the camera.  Put it face down on a flat surface and give the body a bit of a firm and level push down. You might hear a click. Turn it off, then back on.  See if the problem has disappeared.

Re: Fuji X10 — Focus Error! Is This Really The End?

LP48 — I think I may have somewhat applied your solution without knowing it! After failing a number of times during the weekend to get anything other than the Focus Error message when I turned the camera on, I put it in my bike bag and cycled over to Vistek, a local camera shop.

When I pulled the camera out turned it on the Focus Error message was gone! I was shocked to see it actually working — and I decided that I wouldn’t send it in after all. Maybe the bumpy bike ride jarred something?

Off I went — stopping at a Thai restaurant for lunch. Out came the camera. I just had to confirm my good luck. I turned it on — the Focus Error message was back!

So — back to Vistek to hand the camera in to the service department. Unbelievably, when I got to the service desk, I turned it on — and it worked!

The camera is being sent to Fuji service and I’ll find out next week what they can do. A technician mentioned the likelihood of the main board — perhaps he was referring to the camera’s processor? — needing replacing. He estimated about $100 to $130 CDN. to do the job. Hopefully he was not being overly optimistic.

Re: Best wishes, Peter

I hope is keeps working once it’s back.  It’s a fun camera.  If it’s unreliable down the road or just plain dead, time for a replacement then  X30?  Or even a used X20 would still get you the OVF and the same body style at least.

Folks, thanks for the «get well soon» wishes!

I still like my X10, as quirky a camera as it has proven to be! In spite of a mostly Sony line-up, I still reach for it in certain situations. I did a couple of weeks ago to build up a photo collection of neo-classical archtiecture in Toronto for a future post.

Here is the last time my X10 shots resulted in a post at my blog site — it was just after our first major snowfall in mid-January.

January 12, 2016 – Viggo In The Snow As It Blankets Riverdale

I am just hoping the Fuji repair department does not conclude it is working okay — as I did both times I stood at the service counter and turned it on!

audavid, the camera did go to Fuji Canada in Toronto for repair. They quoted $340. CDN to have the lens replaced. I told them to just send the camera back! In the meanwhile I spotted an incredible deal on a X20 for $250. and decided to buy it as a replacement for the X10.

Now here is the weird part — when the X10 came back it was working! I have not had any issues with it since. While I usually grab the X20 now — it is just a better camera — I still occasionally shoot with the X10 — it reminds me of the hours I spent on this forum reading threads about EXR and how it works! I certainly would not take the X10 on a trip since I could not be sure if the problem will come back or not!

I realize this is not a very helpful answer to your question! Good luck with your X10.

Here are a few  X10 shots taken yesterday while walking the dog — I am always surprised when the camera works when I twist that lens!

I had this issue after honeymoon in 2015.  I have periodically tried to start it again but could not get it to work.  Out of the blue I thought I would try and google it again today and found this post.  I tried it a few times and it worked!!!  I have a Canon 7D and various lenses so use this mostly but to have this little camera working again is a dream!  Thank you everyone.

What about the adapter ring I use to attach my JJC lens hood? Does this affect lens movement too? Presumably the official Fuji lens hood also requires an adapter ring. If so Fuji are (knowingly?) contributing to the problem.

The solution is using a threaded spacing ring that just puts a space between a too thick filter mount or lens hood. I have been successfully doing this with an extra thin B&W filter on a 60mm macro which displayed a focus error when used on infinite (or thereabouts).

How to fix a Fujifilm camera?

Turn the camera off, remove the lens, and clean the mounting surfaces, then replace the lens and turn the camera on. If the problem persists, contact a FUJIFILM dealer.

How to clean memory card contacts?

The memory card contacts require cleaning: Clean the contacts with a soft, dry cloth. If the message is repeated, format the card. If the message persists, replace the card.

Can you focus on a camera with a red frame?

Charge the battery or insert a fully-charged spare battery. (displayed in red with red focus frame) The camera can not focus. Use focus lock to focus on another subject at the same distance, then recompose the picture. Aperture or shutter speed displayed in red.

What Was The Fuji X100F Manual Focus Problem?

All previous versions of the X100 series have maintained the focus distance when the camera was powered off or entered sleep mode. This let street photographers (like myself) use the camera as a hyperfocal shooter. Set the focus point to the hyperfocal distance of the lens at a given aperture and shoot with the confidence that just about everything will be in focus all the time.

What happens when you focus on a Fuji X100?

The front element of the 23mm f/2 lens moves forward and back when you focus. Previous models of the Fuji X100 would remember your focus position after a power down making it possible for the lens to collide with the lens cap when the camera is powered on. When this happened, the camera would throw an error and you’d have to remove the lens cap and restart the camera.

How far does the Fuji X100F focus?

For some reason Fuji decided to protect the AF motor and force the Fuji X100F to reset the focus distance to 2 meters (or around 7 feet) whenever the camera powers down or enters sleep mode. This means every time the camera powers up your focus point is in the wrong spot. WHAT THE H??

What is the Fuji X100F?

The Fuji X100 series of cameras have been a favorite of street photographers since day one. And the latest Fuji X100F is a stellar little shooter but whenever the camera powered down the manual focus distance reset to 2 meters which made manual focus shooters (like me) a little crazy.

Where can I buy a Fuji X100F?
