  • I believe I’ve corrected this. There was a registry limit for 5MB for files to process in the inbox. I change that to 15MB and moved the files from the folder back into the inbox and they processed correctly and I can now report on the files.

I have been struggling with slow software inventories. The client settings are pretty basic, with only one item set to search subfolders (*.exe in Program Files (x86) or Program Files). The inventory time has gone from 20 minutes to 3-8 hours and I really cannot find any reason why. We have about 20,000 workstations and this is impacting the vast majority of them.

In the inventoryagent.log there are no errors… just LONG delays between each namespace. On some machines we may see a timeout after 2 hours:

CThrottler::Throttle()[{C0ED66AD-8194-49FD-9826-D0DD38AB7DAA}] — soft timeout exceeded. Throttling is now disabled for the current iteration of this task.

The other thing I see is a lot of errors in the inventoryprovider.log. First of all a search of books and the web does not provide me with a description of what this log is tracking, so if anyone can explain I am all ears. But there does seem to be a lot of errors here… keep in mind this is happening on thousands of machines:

Here is a snippet:

Anyone have thoughts as to why the Software Inventory is so slow?

Thanks.

Software Inventory reporting — No results / Empty.

Good day.

I need your help. We are facing an issue with the software inventory reporting to some of the clients on our SCCM 2012 R2 deployment. We get no results on report query for a Software inventory.

Three weeks ago it is working. Suddenly it stopped working.

Here are the issues:

1. When we check client though Resource Explorer, the items were striked out.

2. There are no results on Report query Software 02E Installed software on a specific computer.

I’ve read various posts with identical description, Checked logs on server and client, checked AI settings, manually run HW and SW inventory cycle, Client settings, and Hardware inventory classes but to no avail.

Please help. Thanks in advance

It’s impossible to help without knowing an error or something like that. The reports would display data if everything was working as expected.

What exactly do you have set for you AI classes? Post a screenshot.

May 27th, 2014 5:54am

@Garth,

We have enabled all AI classes. Also checked SMS_InstalledExecutable and SMS_InstalledSOftware on hardware inventory classes at client settings

@Torsten,

Here are some errors I have seen taken from the logs of client and CM server

Client errors:
1. InventoryProvider.log — Could not load logging configuration

2. InventoryProvider.log — GetObjectAsync — Error handling request, 8004100f

3. InventoryAgent.log — Inventory: 1 Collection Task(s) failed.

4. InventoryAgent.log — Collection Class «SMS_FolderRedirectionHealth» does not exisst

Server:

1. SinvProc.log — WARNING -Attempting to resync due to missed delta reports (sp return code = 12)

2. InventoryAgen.log — InventoryVersion Number for ‘{00000000-0000-0000-0000-00000000010}’ not found

3. SinvProc.log — ERROR — SQL Error 11 in exec dbo.sp_SoftwareInventoryStatus 1,0 16777300,7,N’05/22/2014 16:08:54′,12884901890,0 SMS_SOFTWARE_INVE 5/22/2014 4:09193548 (

4. InventoryProvider.log — GetObjectAsync — Error handling request, 8004100f

Thats the error I got from various logs.

@Garth,

Pardon, How would I know? what error to look for?

Thanks,

May 27th, 2014 11:24pm

Don’t look for errors, trace the mif file, when you can’t find it any more, that is likely where the issue is.

May 27th, 2014 11:26pm

Garth,

I’ve checked the last move of MIF file to dataldr.boxprocess folder. However, It doesnt appear.

Looking for HSEA1MXG.mif at E:Microsoft Configuration Managerinboxesauthdataldr.boxprocess folder

No HSEA1MXG.mif file seen.

When you look on my first post. Its shows that last Resource Explorer inventory was on 5/6/2014.

I wonder why this is happening. Since we have set the hardware/software inventory to run every other day.

Also why is it striked?

May 28th, 2014 1:40am

I also noticed my last successful hardware and software inventory was on May 06, 2014 to all clients.

I changed my Inventory setting was Every 2 days.

Search for the computer name within the log file. Do you see it?

Do you have any files under the bad folder?

No setting your inventory to daily will not be the problem.

Garth,

Yes, saw the name of the client (VANADMIN-HP) on MP_Hinv.log and dataldr.log. Please see screenshots below.

MP_Hinv.log

Dataldr.log

Bad files? Yes. I have plenty of them. Most are on BADMIFS (80 files).

I wonder whats the issue? Please help. Thanks.

That tell me that the PC submitted it inventory correctly to the CM12 database.

Check that the PC does NOT exist twice within the all system collection.

Check that the last inventory date is today, found under the Hardware inventory node and not the History node.

BTW 80 Bad MIF is generally not consider a lot. I would just delete all of them.

May 28th, 2014 9:49pm

Garth,

PC doesnt exist twice on the device collection.

Meanwhile, looking at resource explorer, I can only see 3 property areas for hardware inventory.

Why does this happen? what probably cause this?

This also what can be seen to other PC’s resource explorer

Please help.

Thanks,

What changes to inventory did you make about 3 weeks ago?

May 29th, 2014 5:35am

Hi Garth,

We haven’t, made any changes to Client Settings HW/SW schedule 3 weeks ago. It just that we can’t get reports anymore.

Meanwhile I think, every single PC being logged on dataldr.log now returns software report. :)

Here are the changes done on May 28,2014.

  1. Reinstall Management Point
  2. Manual synchronize Asset Intelligence point
  3. Monitor inventoried computers on dataldr.log
  4. Re-schedule Asset Intelligence Synchronization. Occurs every 1 day. Effective 5/30/2014 10:00 AM
  5. Re-schedule HW & SW inventory. Occurs every 1 day. Effective 5/30/2014 2:00 PM

Garth, What do you think? is the schedule fine?

Thanks

No I don’t think the schedule is right.

  1. turn off SW inventory. Or change it to simple schedule every 14 days!
  2. Make SW inventory a simple Schedule

There is clearly a policy issue if you only have so few classes listed within your HW inventory. So Add a new HW inventory class to see if thing get reset?

Hi Garth,

Yes, I think so the schedule isn’t coping up. Last time we got 23 inventoried clients and the next day it became 8.

We will look up items you recommended.

Thanks.

Did you reset the HW inventory policy? are more PCs showing up in the database?

June 3rd, 2014 11:39am

Hi Garth,

We still has no progress.
On your questions:

1 Did you reset the HW inventory policy?
— What we did was just create another policy. 1 for HW inventory and 1  for SW inventory

2
Are more PCs showing up in the database?

— No, It has been stuck, not all users were inventoried. What do you mean by HW inventory
policy reset?

Thanks

  • Problem to generat an report on an SSRS for SCCM 2012 R2 SP1. I got error has occurred during report processing.

    Hi,
Problem to generat an report on an SSRS for SCCM 2012 R2 SP1. I got error has occurred during report processing.
In general it is no problem to generat SSRS reports, but an custom one i get issue with.

error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted)
    Query
execution failed for dataset ‘DataSet1’. (rsErrorExecutingCommand)
    ExecuteReader:
CommandText property has not been initialized

    Hi SaiTech,
According to your description, when you render report on SCCM 2012 R2, you got the error message.
According to my knowledge, the issue can be caused by following reasons:
Select permission not granted to ConfigMgr reporting account. We need to open the SQL management console and open the properties dialog box of configmgr db, grant select and execute permission to ConfigMgr reporting account.
Reporting Services Web Service URL or Report Manager is false. Make sure Web Service URL and Report Manager URL are correct. Restart SMS_Executive service and reinstall Reporting Service Point, then please render the report again.
Report timeout. Increase query and report timeout.
If the problem remain unresolved, please provide detailed information of SRSRP.log (default location: %programfiles%Microsoft  and Configuration ManagerLogs) and reporting services error log(default location: %programfiles%Microsoft SQL Server<SQL
Server Instance>Reporting ServicesLogFiles), it will help us move more quickly toward a solution.

    Hi,
You could use SCCM console to add these drivers. From the SCCM console, go to Operating Systems -> Drivers. Right click and select Import Drivers and follow the wizard. Or go to Operating Systems -> Boot Images -> Right click the boot image in question
-> select Properties. Select the Drivers tab and click on the add button on the right and then select the NIC drivers.

  • SCCM 2012 R2 sp1 cu1 ccmsetup.exe still 5.00.7958.1000

I downloaded sccm 2012 r2 sp1 cu1.  I applied the server update to our Primary server.  I also pushed out the client update (5.00.7958.1203) to all of our servers.  But I have noticed that any new servers are still showing client version as
5.00.7958.1000.  I checked the version of ccmsetup.exe on our Sccm primary server and it is showing 5.00.7958.1000.  I would have thought when I applied the sccm 2012 r2 sp1 cu1 server update to the primary server it would have updated the ccmsetup.exe
to version 5.00.7958.1203.  I know with time the client on new boxes will be updated with the client update push I have running on all windows server collection, but why not just have the most current version from the start.  I searched for
an updated copy of ccmset.exe on the primary server, but never found it.  I checked MS site for the most current version of sccm 2012 client install, but could find that either.  Any help would be greatly appreciated,
    Mark

Nope. CU1 is simple an update that must be layered on top of the R2 client. You can do this using either SCUP or a program deployment using the package/program that was created during the CU setup.

Here is the complete smsts.log: http://1drv.ms/1pwTEBf
To explain the Problem in Detail:
The SCCM Primary Site Server and the Clients are in different trusted (bidirectional) forests!
Everythings working fine in this Scenario, I can install SCCM Agent on the Clients with Manual ccmsetup and with Client Push Installation. Additionally i can deploy Software Updates and so on… only OSD is crashing in the releaserequest step.
During my Tasksequence new Clients are joined to Domain A while SCCM Primary Site Server is installed in Domain B
If I change my TS and let the Clients also join Domain B everything works without any Problems and the Tasksequence finish without any Errors.
My Problem must be related to the different Domains and the forest trust.
    My Setup:
MP published to DNS in both domains
    Schema Extended in both domains
System Management Container published and verified in both domains
ccmsetup Parameters in TS: ccmsetup SMSMP=sccm.domain.b FSP=sccm.domain.b DNSSUFFIX=Domain.b
Network Access account configured with Domain B account
Domain Join account has create Computer rights on the OU in Domain A (Domain join is successful)
DNs conditional forwarders configured in both Domains and DNS resolutin is working in both directions
    Any suggestions?
    Many thanks.
    regards,
    Christian

    Hi Christian,
So do you actual get an error message in your TS or is it just failing to join Domain B?  (Could be both if the machines fails to join the domain).
Can you review netsetup.log on the machines after the issue and see what error message you might be getting during the domain join process?
Also, if it a domain join issue, can you try manually joining to domain B using the same service account?

    Hi Daniel,
Thanks for replying on my post, actually I have downloaded the  kb2880552 sp1 for
    enterprise edition from the link
https://support.microsoft.com/kb/2880552 , and this has been experienced with me before since I had my Standalone Dev machine first installation, and the issue only occurred when the SP1 installed though.
Anyway, I’ve tried to install CU Nov 2013 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2889944
but still facing the same issue,
I run the Setup of SP2013 from the CD to repair the SharePoint and error message appears,
The issue related to «Microsoft.Office.TranslationServices» is also related to running
the repair successfully which leads to the same error message above.
The Version of SP 2013 from the program file is : 15.0.4571.1502
The Update snapshot is as below:

Hi, I set up a Site Maintenance Task for Backup our Primary Site, but every time I run this task it fail with the following message:

so it seems to me that I have a permission issue … what is the correct Permission setup for UNC Backup? (Share and NTFS Permissions) … I tried to give the SCCM Server and SQL Server Computer and SQL Cluster Account Full Control without success…)

    Hi,
Did the Distmgr.log say that allowing to process 1 package at a time?
And have you tried to change these settings, then monitor the changes in Distmgr.log and Sender.log?

I am trying to package the SCCM 2012 console (with SP1) and with and without CU4.  Both packages give me the following error in the event log. ‘the virtual application…..could not be started because the App-V subsystem ‘Virtual FileSystem’ could not

I’ve re-sequenced the app, had another package create a different package too and both get the same error.

  • WMI Corruption — SCCM 2012 — Win7 SP1

    Hi all,
So we are in the process of switching to Configuration Manager 2012 and we are now having MANY instances of WMI corruption on user workstations. The OS we are deploying is Win 7 SP1.
    Symptoms:
-Keeping users from logging in (heavily delayed or not at all), spinning at the blue login screen.
    -Computer hangs at logoff/shutdown.
-NIC lags on recognizing internet connection at startup.
-Programs running slow and crashing (Includes MS Office and IE).
-Windows crashing and getting black screens.
    Fixes we’ve tried:
-Deleting all expired updates from Configuration Manager.
-Consolidating software update groups. When originally installed, someone configured it so every update would create it’s own update group. After fixing this, we saw a decrease in affected machines.
-Reseting the repositroy. This is pretty much putting a band-aid on the problem. It get’s users to be able to get functional again while we continue to troubleshoot the underlying problem. We’ve tried salavaging the repository, but it hardly if ever completes
    successfully.
-Applying the following hotfixes from Microsoft, after the repository has been reset. This method is only on about 1% of the machines on our network and is still in testing phase.
2705357      The WMI process stops sending events to
WMI clients from a Windows 7-based or Windows Server 2008 R2-based server
    2692929      «0x80041001» error when the
Win32_Environment WMI class is queried by multiple requestors in Windows 7 or in Windows Server 2008 R2
2617858      Unexpectedly slow startup or logon process
in Windows Server 2008 R2 or in Windows 7
    2465990      «0x80041002 (WBEM_E_NOT_FOUND)»
error occurs when you try to open a WMI namespace on a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2
2492536      Msinfo32.exe takes a long time to display
or export system information on a computer that has many MSI-X-supported devices and that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2
    2578159-
When you log on to a computer that is running Windows Server 2008 R2 or Windows 7, the logon process stops responding and a blue swirl is shown on the Welcome screen indefinitely. After some time, the computer stops responding to any network-related commands.
You must forcibly restart the computer to recover from this issue.
This issue occurs because of a race condition between the Windows Event Log service and the Event Tracing for Windows
(ETW) tracing functions. When the race condition occurs, it causes a deadlock situation. This deadlock situation then causes the Winlogon.exe process to become unresponsive.
2639505- Assume that you run a service which queries the Win32_StartupCommand Windows
Management Instrumentation (WMI) class on a computer that is running Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, or Windows Server 2008 R2.
In this situation, all loaded user profiles occasionally cannot be unloaded successfully after the WMI query is finished. If the number of unloaded user profiles keeps increasing, the system resources may be exhausted. For example,
the virtual address control block (VACB) may be exhausted.
    2639077-
Handle leak in Svchost.exe when a WMI query is triggered by using the Win32_PowerSettingCapabilities class in Windows 7 or in Windows
    Server 2008 R2
2547244-The WMI service and the WMI providers stop responding
when you use WMI performance classes to monitor performance on a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2
Thanks in advance for any help!

    -Fails to boot from NIC.
Booting from NIC (are you talking about PXE boot?) has nothing to do with WMI at all. There’s no OS involved. So *I* do not see a connection between WMI and PXE.
Have you already tried excluding the WBEM directory from antivirus scans? How are the WMI memory limits configured? See
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/askperf/archive/2008/09/16/memory-and-handle-quotas-in-the-wmi-provider-service.aspx as a starting point.

  • SCCM 2012 R2 Client install error — CcmGetOSVersion failed with 0x80070008

Getting this error message, CcmGetOSVersion failed with 0x80070008 and CcmSetup failed with error code 0x80070008.  Only thing on this error I can find is Windows Update and removing languages.  Only language installed is English.  I’ve pasted
the last part of the ccmsetup.log file.  Not sure if more would be needed.  I’ve done a complete uninstallreinstall attempt.  Recompiled MOF files and reregistered DLL files for WMI.  Did a repository rebuild of WMI.  Nothing has
helped.  Not sure what it’s checking besides WMI to get the OSversion or what that error code means.  This is the only server having this error.  Our other 700 servers have installed the client with no issues.   OS is Server 2008 SP2, NOT
R2.  Any help is greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

Everything seems fine.  7GB of free space, 500 MB of free RAM, 5GB of page file free.  I’ll reboot the server during our next maintenance window and see if that helps.  Was hoping I wouldn’t have to reboot but will probably help.  Thanks
    again.

  • HT4623 How do I return to iOS 6 after iOS 7 install has failed?

I attempted to update my iPhone 4s last night via iTunes on my Mac.  I backed up my iPhone 4s via iTunes. iTunes prompted me that it needed to be updated which I did. Then I proceeded to update my iPhone and iTunes made another back up of the iPhone.  The download failed a few times but eventually completed.  Eventually the update was proceeding and then I got a message stating the update failed for a unknown reason.  Currently the iPhone is unusable and shows the iTune + iPhone or connect to iTunes picture and iTunes give this message … «The iPhone «iPhone» could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (3014).»  I tried multiple scenarios from Apple Support Communities and nothing has worked.

I used a another Mac with the previous version of iTunes to attempt a recovery and it seemed like it was working and then it gave me «The iPhone «iPhone» could not be restored. This device isn’t eligible for the requested build.»  When I look this up it points to a similar and potentially related issue with conneting to the gs.apple.com server.  Is there a diagnostic tool that can confirm this?

  • SCCM 2012 client not getting updates, processidtosessionid failed, getfileinfosize failed, createobjectasync error

I have one particular client that will not pull down patches from the site server. The ccmcache folder stays empty, nothing appears in Software Center, report Compliance 5 — Specific Computer says it needs 4 patchs and that they are approved (other computers
get these patches). Four logs look like they have messages of interest:

    MTRMGR.log
    «ProcessIDtoSessionID failed for process 12345, error 80070057

this pattern repeats over and over. I read on site that this is error set is normal, but I’m not so sure.
    INVENTORYPROVIDER.log
This line appears over and over:
    «GetObjectAsync — error handling request 80041000f
    then I get:

The SMSSHA error in ccmexec.log could be ignored if you are not using NAP (network access protection).

Which version of Windows you’re running? You could try to run System Update Readiness tool or try to reset Windows Update components.
What is the System Update Readiness Tool?
How do I reset Windows Update components?

  • SCCM 2012 SP1 | Database Replication Failing on from Child to Parent

I am having a very urgent issue. The symptom manifested itself as an inability to distribute content (this months software update package) to a secondary site server with DP role.
As we dived into it we see that the replication links are dead with «Link has failed».
Using the replication link analyzer it fixes it for about 1 hour but then fails again. On a closer look I noticed that replication is working from parent to child but not child to parent. Also check out the time stamps:
Parent Last Send and Child Recv are both up to date, only Parent Last Recv and Child Last Send are failing.
    What do I do?
None of the logs seem to tell me much other than the statesys.log on both secondaries are pumping the following line over and over again almost to fast for cmtrace to keep up with:
    total chucks loaded (0)
Oh final thought, we did restore a full offline disk image of the primary server a month ago due to a hardware server failure. The snapshot of the disk luckily was taken only 30 mins before the hardware failure but I suppose there could be something related
to that although the server seems to have been fine these last few weeks until now.

Nothing I can see right now, I started the link up again, ill try to check the log right at the time the link fails this time. Here is a snip of what the child rcmctrl.log looks like:

  • so Hi everyone, struggling to solve this almost for a day, i haven’t used crystal reports much, so please point me in the right direction.

Here is the problem, we have an asp.net web site using crystal reports. All the reports seems to work fine except one. The Report is opening when it is running in local, but when deployed to the server it is throwing «System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x8004100F)» error.

when i searched for it, it is a logon error, if thats the case it shouldnt work from local either, and other reports using the same connection also working well when deployed in server.

    Taken from SAP:

If it’s only certain reports, the compare the reports:

Connection type (OLE DB, ODBC, etc.).

Is it reports with subreports only? If so, check the above and log on to the subreports.

Check other differences. parameters? Tables vs. Stored Proc, etc., etc.

You may also want to troubleshoot by trying out the 32 bit runtime

Okay, currently the report is working, maybe of help to someone else facing the same problem.

In the report database properties, the Locale Identifier of the connection was set to 17417 which is English-Malaysia(dont know why and how), i changed the connection Locale Identifier to 1033 English-United States and now it is working in the server.

Database -> Set Datasource Location -> report -> properties -> Locale Identifer

If someone could reply how the locale identifier got set to 17417, it would be a great help.

    The problem

Following a clean install, I’m seeing the same error repeating six times in the log following boot up:

I’ve done nothing since booting up, the only integrations installed are the defaults:

    • Meteorologisk institutt (Met.no)
    • Raspberry Pi Power Supply Checker

The following have been discovered, but not configured:
