So far I had to redownload 3dXhange 6. I was able to drag and drop .fbx And .obj files. |

Is this a specific file? I just tried and I can open FBX and OBJ files. What FBX version are you using? I believe 3DX only supports up to FBX 2015.

I think you are thinking of sketchup. Which only 2015 is supported. FBX 2019 is supported and working fine. I had no issues at all. I would probably suggest uninstall and reinstall 3DXchange. Although it says 7.5 in that screen i do have the 7.7 update. But that’s just a visual difference and shouldn’t impact the import/export of fbx.

I had this same issue yesterday with cc3, and importing some old characters I made in daz 3D a while back, I never had a problem with them before but I discovered that it had to do with how other objects are linked to the character …apparently when I exported fbx without having the clothing parented to the main character, it must have looked at one of the clothing props and declared the whole file incompatible — this was never an issue before as I’ve imported these characters before, I just wanted to reimport them to the new updated meshes to use the new tools…. when I parented the clothing to the main body, it came in fine ….it’s a new …I don’t want to call it a bug … …but at the very least a new restriction. It probably came from cc3 — and updating it to daz compatibility, but was copied and pasted over to 3DXchange too.

I’m using the trial copy of 3dxchange, and had constructed a prop from several primitives in iclone 5 pro, attached them all ,then saved said item in iclone as one prop. I then reloaded the same prop into the scene to see how it loads. All is well here so far. I wanted to export it to 3dxchange and work on it outside of iclone but I get a ‘file import error’ pop up. Everything else I’ve done in 3dxchange has worked great , save for one particular model i tried opening but found it was waaaay too large EDIT: Answered my own question just now. i tried exporting just one primitive alone and got the same result. file import error from 3dxchange. Are iclone primitives not usable in the program?

Sen is right! If you want to do 3DX operations you need iCLone4, but I guess not for long.

This is because 3DXchange4 does not support IC5 file data. A new version of 3DXchange is in development and this will be fully compatible with iClone5. Peter www.reallusion.com |

3DXchange can not import/open an iProject. It can only import/open iProp, iAcc and iAvatar files from iClone. wires (7/13/2016) 3DXchange can not import/open an iProject. It can only import/open iProp, iAcc and iAvatar files from iClone. I have notices the same when trying to import using blender and your character you have rigged using rigify it brings the same message. Anybody with a solution? |

Import FBX Error
When I import my character FBX as an asset into Stingray I get the following error repeatedly and the FBX import fails:
…»has more than 4 influences per vertex, weights were pruned.»
Any tips for solving this issue?

In your DCC of choice (Max/Maya/etc) you need to limit the amount of influences per vertex.
In Maya, for example, you set the Max influences when you bind your skin. Or, you can use ‘Set Max Influences’ under Skin -> Edit Influences to modify an existing skinned mesh.

Hi, Thanks for your help. I found that area and was able to edit the Max Influences.
I am also getting another persistent error:
«Error message: ‘Failed to read scene cache file: Named object has empty string'»
This occurs when I drag and drop my FBX to the Asset Browser.

Thanks, I’ll look into this. You could try deleting your project data folder and recompiling. It could be that because the compile failed previously, your data may be in a bad state.

Animize, i’ve recreated this issue — it is logged as: GAME-9549 for reference.
This means that you have a node in your scene that has an empty string as the name. 3DS Max allows this — and we aren’t properly handling that data.
Looking at your scenes I don’t know what nodes are causing the issue — but I am looking into it so that you can have a workaround.

After importing into 3dsmax or maya and re-exporting the scenes I can import into Stingray. That seems to sanitize the scene.

Hi Andrew, I’m using Maya LT and when I import the FBX file to Maya LT and then export FBX again I still get the…
Error message: ‘Failed to read scene cache file: Named object has empty string’
Does it work for you if you export from Maya LT? I am trying the Games Exporter and just exporting FBX.

This issue has now been addressed based on the above feedback and will appear in a future build.

Details:
Nodes/objects in the attached scenes have names with empty strings
Workaround until a build with the fix is available:
Give all objects/nodes in the scene a name that is not empty
What the fix will do:
Any object or node with a empty string as a name will be renamed to «_ncl1_0» during import into the editor.
