Installarchives failed error in function install

When trying to download steam from the software manager, I have the following error:

The operation with the package failed, details:
installArchives() failed: Error in function: install.

I’m practically new to linux, I don’t know what to do.

then post the full output here.

Jn normal situations it should have the exact same results as installing via the «Software Manager», but the output is usually richer for debugging purposes.

ps: If it works you’ll know something is wrong with Software Manager, likely not gonna happen only with steam

Like on most forums, people post here in an out-of-sync manner, so there is no point in getting riled up when someone takes a while to respond, like may be the usual social requirement in IM chats. and even then, I rather not think much of it.

There is a lot that can be going on and we can’t assume ill-intention. Here is a couple examples that happened to me personally:
— mistaken chat status due to steam being minimized or due to having the chat app on a smartphone
— suppressed notifications while using anything in fullscreen
— passing out and sleeping in front of the screen (gaming and working and browsing random stuff). yeah, happens a lot here
— running off to the kitchen to control burnt food you forgot in the oven, then once that’s solved, forgetting what you were doing until a lot later

In short. life happens.

. and I know why it bothered you, but in general I’d rather keep the Steam for Linux forum in a more relaxed and welcoming tone, even at the cost of sometimes people really forgetting to go back and provide feedback for the ones helping them.

But. if it works while the «Software Manager» method didn’t, I’d be a bit worried that something may be broken in that Linux Mint install.

If I were you, I’d at least try installing other stuff via Software Manager just to make sure it’s not generally broken instead of just a fluke with steam specifically.

Now We try method 2

We are try remove & reinstall Software center.

To remove Software Center:

1. sudo apt-get autoremove software-center

To re-install Software Center:

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install software-center

or you can use single command for remove & reinstall Software Center

sudo apt-get —purge —reinstall install software-center

Now this will work & after this method work vote up the answer. Best of luck.

$ sudo apt-get —purge —reinstall install software-center. Removing oem-kernel-cmdline (1.4kittyhawk7) . postrm called with unknown argument `remove’ dpkg: error processing package oem-kernel-cmdline (—remove): subprocess installed post-removal script returned error exit status 1 Errors were encountered while processing: oem-kernel-cmdline E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

First of all run this commands on terminal

$ sudo apt-get update

$ sudo apt-get upgrade

$ sudo apt-get autoclean

This commands will try to fix broken packages if any and also install required library files if missed.

After that install Synaptic Package Manager, Using this you can add/remove/update/fix-broken packages very easily.

Install Synaptic Package Manager by using following command
