It means that you have your hard drive formatted in a case sensitive format, probably «Mac OS Extended (Case-sensitive, Journaled)«. That means that you can have files named (for example) test.txt, Test.txt, and TEST.txt and they will all be separate, individual files.

Do a Get Info on your hard drive to see how it is formatted.

You should be able to use either of the third-party applications «Carbon Copy Cloner» or «SuperDuper» (free for this purpose) to copy your case-sensitive volume to an empty case-insensitive one. Make at least two such copies on different drives. One is not enough to be safe.

If there are any name conflicts—that is, files in the same folder with names that differ only in case, such as «File» and «file»—then you will either get an error or one of the files won’t be copied. You must ensure either that no such conflicts exist, or that the consequences are not important. How you do that is up to you. Unless you went out of your way to create conflicts, they probably don’t exist.

Then erase the source volume in Disk Utility as case-insensitive. This action will remove all data from the volume. If the volume is the startup volume, you must start up in Recovery mode or from another drive in order to erase it.

Restore from one of your backups using the same application you used to create it, or use the «Restore» feature of Disk Utility, which will be faster. Search its built-in help for the term «duplicate» if you need instructions.

I was trying to install Adobe on a case sensitive-formatted hard drive, so I followed instructions to duplicate the main partition into another one and then to restore from the new one. However, when I removed the main partition, I wasn’t able to boot from it, the Mac displays the «stop sign». I’ve tried holding Option, but to no avail. THere is only one partition, not 3 like it is supposed to be and I can’t even reinstall the whole OS.

Any help?

EDIT: I managed to create a portion and I’m installing Mavericks now onto it. But.. will I be able to restore the data? :(

Mac?

Thanx!

https://bitbucket.org/lokkju/adobe_case_sensitive_volumes

Xcode 4

    hg clone ssh://hg@bitbucket.org/lokkju/adobe_case_sensitive_volumes

  • перейдите в каталог: cd adobe_case_sensitive_volumes
  • сделать библиотеку: make
Applications/Adobe «
Applications/Adobe »

    » <your sparsebundle>/Adobe » в » /Applications/Adobe «

https://web.archive.org/web/20150519130030/https://gist.github.com/cypres/1368631

I need someone to put this together in the most fool-proof way possible.

I recently reinstalled the OS on my Macbook Air 2014 (Yosemite) as I had a ton of useless files as it was acting super duper slow so now that I want to install Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign (which my entire life depends on as I’m a design student) it gives me an error:
Installation on case-sensitive volumes is not supported. Please choose a different volume for installation.

I know this topic has been discussed before but tbh I didn’t understand a thing going through them lol. So I know there is this thing called iPartition but I currently don’t want to spend any money on apps and am more than happy to reboot my entire Macbook or pick a different OS if that helps.

Any thoughts?

Here’s what Adobe has to say about this error.

It means you have to reinstall OS X.

enter image description here
Reformat and Choose OS X Extended (Journaled) as in the image above.

Most people never need the case sensitive option. It should have been deselected for you in install, and you selected it.

Don’t do this. If you take the defaults it gives you, you will get what you want.

My root directory, Applications folder and installer placed on case-insensitive APFS partition, then why does installer give me an error message that I should choose another volume to installation? Is the problem that my user’s profile placed on case-sensitive partition???
