Hello Everybody. So recently, a problem has come up revolving around me attempting to connect to a server. To start off, here’s the basic scenario: I start minecraft, log in (which suddenly takes longer than it ever did before, but not by much), go to multiplayer, then select the server. All good so far, for the most part. I’m able to play on the server for about 20 seconds, until it suddenly freezes. This freeze isn’t as in I can’t move or minecraft stops responding, but a very differing kind. Primarily, I can’t open chests, I right-click and nothing happens, I destroy a block but no blocks pop out, everybody stops moving. That seems generic for lag, however, something else happens. I can talk to my cousin on the phone (who in my perspective is standing still even though he is moving), and he tells me that he does see me moving, exactly as I am on my side. From this point, it either goes two ways. One way is that in about 30 seconds, boom, everything suddenly happens, chests open, characters move like lighting, I randomly get a bunch of blocks (Soon, a few seconds later, the problem repeats however). The other way, the more common one, is that eventually about after a minute, «Internal exception: java.net.SocketTimeoutException: Read timed out» appears on my screen. This has been screwing with me recently and really been bogging down my experience.

A few things to put out. This only occurs on one specific server, but I don’t believe it’s the servers fault. This is because all my friends on the server which I am able to talk over the phone with have perfect connection, they never run into this problem, or really any problem at all. (For interest, some friends live beside me, other’s are across the country). As well, this is only occurring on my desktop. When I connect with my Macintosh Laptop (Which I believe doesn’t even have the most recent java version) this problem is not run into (This of course is using the exact same internet connection). As a final side note, when the server was open, this problem wasn’t really occurring, but instead it started at a later date, and as time went on it’s become worse. There have been little moments where a fix slightly helps my connection, but then the problem comes back right after even more to detriment my connection. As well, my connection is indeed wireless, but I’m practically situated on the opposite side of the house compared to the router. Currently, I have a wired connection as the router is now situated beside me instead.

Yes, I am currently using Java 64 bit, and the most recent version.
Yes, I have deleted all Java and re-downloaded it from the website.
Yes, I have set Minecraft priority to high in the Task Manager every time I open Minecraft.
Yes, I have completely​ removed minecraft from my computer, and re-installed it.

How to fix Jsoup java.net.SocketTimeoutException: Read timed out exception?

You may encounter “java.net.SocketTimeoutException: Read timed out” exception while using the Jsoup. Here is the program which gave me the exception.

Fix:

The problem is the default Jsoup timeout which is 3 seconds. If you encounter the exception “java.net.SocketTimeoutException: Read timed out”, it means that time our program took to read the requested webpage was exceeded the default timeout time (3 seconds).

You need to increase the timeout Jsoup uses to fix the problem using timeout method of Connection class.

This method sets the connect and read timeout both. Please note that the timeout is in milliseconds.

How to fix Jsoup java.net.SocketTimeoutException: Connect timed out exception?

Another exception Jsoup may throw is “java.net.SocketTimeoutException: Connect timed out”. This exception means the time taken by our program to connect to the requested URL exceeded the timeout Jsoup uses.

Here is how to fix/resolve the “Connect time out” exception.

1) Make sure you are connected to the internet. Try to open the same URL in the browser and see if it opens the page.
2) Specify Jsoup connection time out before getting the document as given below.

Hi All ,
I have webservice client connecting to SOAP Servivces through HTTPS using sun JSSE implementation. Everytime i make a webservice call i get the Read timed out exception. I am sure of SSL handshaking is happening. Below is the stack trace. I am behind the proxy as well.

I am having the same problem. I am not using Axis, but am using JBoss’ HTTP-Invoker and get this stack trace. It does not happen for most users, but happens consistently for a few that claim they aren’t using a proxy server. Any pointers would be appreciated.

My problem is that I can’t join my friends server, this is because i get the error: java.net.SocketException: Host is down

This began since the IP from the server changed to get more RAM. I couldn’t join anymore and i’m getting this error the whole time.
My brother is also playing on a mac and he can play on the server without any problems.. :/

i am having the same problem. it just says the read timed out thing.(i didnt want to type the whole thing). i cant log onto servers. i have 1.3.1. i tried deleting my .minecraft and that didnt work. what should i do? whats going on.

btw. it logs me on but i it stops at «downloading terrain». other people can see me. i know from skype. but for me it just stays there and then after a while the message pops up.

I figured out it was one of my No Lag plugins incompatible with craftbukkit 1.3.1
Delete it if you have one!

I run both a MineCraft server and a Tekkit server on a single desktop Not at the same time tho. Since starting Tekkit both me and my husband were having the Java Exception errors. After reading up on the forums of all the good ideas this is what I did to fix it.

1. Run Windows Updates
A. Install EVERYTHING
2. install the newest version of Java. (we both use 64 bit)
A. Install the Java JRE Version to fit your computer
B. If you are running the server make sure you Shut it DOWN before proceeding
C. If your not see if the owner is wiling to do step 5 for you.
3. Reboot both Modem and Router
4. I use Windows 7
A. Start — type CMD in search window — Hit enter — command prompt should open — type ipconfig /flushdns- Hit Enter again (i did this on my laptop remember server’s running on a desktop)
5. On server computer do same thing as step 3. if your not using Windows 7 it will be different for you. Both of our machines are Window’s 7.
6. Once into Command Prompt type ipconfig /flushdns and hit enter
7. Restart Tekkit / Minecraft.

Sorry for those of you who do not use a Window’s machine I have no idea how to help you but maybe you do based on what I’ve said

This is what fixed my java errors and connection lost i’ve been logged in for over an hour now. I used to only be able to stay on for approx 2-4 minutes before I would lag out and drop.

We have been running a Minecraft server for a long time with mostly family playing. Recently (right before patch) We all agreed to give Tekkit a chance. Since July 29th we’ve been playing/running Tekkit and this is the only problem we have had with it.

A few days ago, I went to connect to a friend’s server and my screen stayed at the «Downloading Terrain» message for about a minute and then I got the error message: INTERNAL EXCEPTION: JAVA.NET.SOCKETTIMEOUTEXCEPTION: READ TIMED OUT.

I was very confused as I had been on the server with no problems a few minutes before then. I tried to connect a few more times with no success.

I began my serach on the internet for solutions to the problem. I came across this thread and tried everything that people suggested. I comepletely uninstalled Java and Minecraft serveral times and that did not fix the problem. I tried the ipconfig /flushdns command and that did not fix the problem. The server and my client are vanilla, so none of the «too many plugins» or «uninstall Tekkit» suggestions applied to me.

I then hypothesized that the problem had to do with my bad internet (Ping: 45ms, Download Speed: 1 Mb/s, Upload Speed, 0.38 Mb/s). However, I noticed that many people on this thread have very good internet.

I then gave up on the issue. I was still able to connect to other servers, so I played on some PvP servers and tried my hand at MineZ.

A few days later my friend running the server called me on Skype and told me that he had the problem in the past and so had a few other people on the server. He said that it just went away after a while and I would have to be patient. But I suggested we try one last thing before giving up. Neither of us actually thought it would work, but he deleted my player file from the world folder.

Deleting my player file seems to have worked. I haven’t had any problems since then, besides some block lag due to my poor internet connection.

I truely hope this helps.

P.S Make sure to back up the player file just in case this fix doesn’t work for you.

I had the person running the server open up the the folder containing the files for the server, open the ‘world’ folder, open the ‘players’ folder, and then delete the ‘.dat’ file that corresponded to my Minecraft username.

I have the same issue. I’ve been running a server since late alpha, this is the first time I’ve had any problems at all that couldn’t be solved with a server upgrade. Everybody has issues on my server now, it started having issues for no apparent reason. I’ve tried upgrading to Java7 and everything.

If I do get connected (which isn’t often), typing a command disconnects me. It’s not a DNS issue because I’ve been trying to connect via IP and I’ve bound the server to an IP. The server specs are:

I’ve tried making a new world, I’m running a vanilla client and server, I’ve tried from multiple computers and locations. I’ve tried dropping a new server jar into a folder and letting it generate a default config while running the server with default parameters.

Here is how I typically start the server:

I’ve tried 32 and 64bit JRE7 on the client. I don’t think I’ve attempted JRE6, I know a lot of people (everybody) who try to connect to my server have the issue so it’s likely somebody using JRE6 has tried.

Which should imply that the server status checker (I forget which one) is connecting fine. I’ve tried with the query server on and off. I’ve tried using different server ports.

Is there any known fix for this at all? I haven’t tried connecting to the server via Linux yet. I’ve tried the Jar and the Exe on the client.

Edit: The «issues» I refer to are the same errors that other people in the thread have been referring to.

Having the same problem with a tekkit server. It worked fine yesterday but now every time the server admin connects he falls through the world and everyone gets kicked with the client side message: Internal Exception: java.net.SocketTimeOutException: Read timed out . He then has to restart the server before we can connect again. The server seems to work fine for all other users as long as the admin («maximus») doesn’t connect.

We are using BuildCraft 2.2.14, minecraft server 1.2.5.

Now, as you can see every time maximus connects it triggers the «java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: codechicken.core.CoreUtils.getDimension(Lnet/minecraft/server/WorldMap;)I» exception and everyone gets kicked with the client side message «Internal Exception: java.net.SocketTimeOutException: Read timed out».

В отличие от других языков программирования, Java жёстко заточена под использование ООП, потому при возникновении ошибки бросается исключение (объект содержащий сведения под ошибке). Его можно «поймать», дабы предпринять какие-то действия (допустим, вывести в лог). В случае майнкрафта, при возникновении исключения, создаётся краш-отчёт и работа игры завершается.

Понять исключения достаточно просто и вам для этого не понадобится специальное ПО для отладки.

Полная печать исключения состоит из 3-х частей:

  1. Исключение — имя класса ошибки. Классам обычно дают понятные человеку имена, достаточно знаний английского, чтобы понять значение.
  2. Сообщение — содержит более детальное описание ошибки. Может отсутствовать.
  3. Стек вызова — отражает ход работы программы (снизу вверх). Данная информация больше полезна разработчику, дабы понять, где именно возникла ошибка. Обычному пользователю данная информация может помочь понять, с чем связана ошибка (по именам классов и вызываемым функциям — методам).

Исключения могут иметь предков, что присутствует в данном примере (после «Caused by» идёт печать исключения-предка). Если вам не понятно исключение, возможно, стоит рассмотреть его предков — они могут содержать более понятное сообщение.

В данной теме я опишу наиболее часто встречающиеся ошибки, а также, какие действия следует или вовсе не следует предпринимать. Причин у ошибок множество и это не всегда повреждённые файлы игры (чего быть в принципе не может, поскольку лаунчер проверяет файлы игры).

При возникновении ошибок не спешите бежать переустанавливать Java и игру! Java — стабильный продукт. В большинстве случаев, ошибки возникают из-за неправильной настройки ОС; ошибок сети; неправильных драйверов.

org.lwjgl.LWJGLException: Pixel format not accelerated
Недоступно аппаратное ускорение графики. Описание ошибки (англ.)

Решение: Установите последнюю версию драйвера видеокарты.

javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException: sun.security.validator.ValidatorException: PKIX path validation/building failed
Не удаётся установить защищённое соединение из-за невозможности проверки SSL сертификата.

Что можно сделать:

  • Эта ошибка может возникнуть из-за использования слишком старой версии Java. Рекомендуется регулярно обновлять ПО, чтобы иметь актуальный список корневых сертификатов.
  • Виновником может быть антивирус, пытающийся «подсунуть» свой сертификат с целью прослушивания трафика. Настоятельно рекомендуется отключить в антивирусе проверку защищённых соединений (HTTPS/SSL/TLS) — это значительно снижает безопасность защищённых соединений и вызывает проблемы в работе приложений, использующие их.

java.net.SocketTimeOutException: Read timed out
Ошибка сети «время ожидания истекло». Здесь сложно установить виновника: проблема может быть как на стороне сервера, вашего провайдера или вызвана антивирусом.

Что можно сделать:

  • Отключите антивирус и попробуйте выполнить запрос снова.
  • Используйте другое подключение к интернету (другой провайдер; мобильный интернет; VPN; Wi-Fi соседей).
  • Используйте VPN для обхода блокировки (цензуры) со стороны вашего интернет-провайдера.

java.net.ConnectException: Connection timed out: connect
Ошибка сети — не удалось установить соединение с хостом. Обычно виновником данной ошибки является Firewall (брандмауэр) или отсутствие интернета.

Что можно сделать:

  • Проверьте наличие подключения к интернету.
  • Временно отключите антивирус и Firewall.

java.net.SocketException: Connection reset / Удаленный хост принудительно разорвал существующее подключение
Ошибка сети «соединение сброшено». Как и в предыдущей ошибке, проблема связана с «плохим» интернетом, либо проблемами на стороне сервера (в этом случае ошибка будет у всех). Чаще всего возникает у пользователей мобильного интернета (USB-модем). От вас никаких действий предпринимать не требуется, кроме как найти «другой интернет» или использовать VPN для обхода фильтра сайтов.

java.lang.ClassCastException: XXX cannot be cast to YYY
Ошибка в логике программы: попытка привести объект к классу, экземпляром коего объект не является.

Решение: Сообщите о проблеме разработчику программы, приложив лог ошибки.

java.io.IOException: Server returned HTTP response code: 000 for URL
Проблема на стороне веб-сервера. Стандартная библиотека Java выбрасывает исключение, если веб-сервер выдаёт, например, страницу «404 Not Found».

Решение: Сообщите о проблеме владельцу веб-сервера, URL которого указан в тексте ошибки.

java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: Can’t load library:
Не удалось загрузить нативную библиотеку (скорее всего, отсутствует файл по указанному пути).

Что можно сделать:

  • Чаще всего ошибка возникает из-за отсутствия библиотек LWJGL. Почему их файлы пропадают, пока остаётся загадкой. Если пути вы видите «.redserver/natives/2.9.1/lwjgl.dll», значит надо удалить папку natives, находящуюся в .redserver, чтобы лаунчер их скачал заново.
    Неактуально: С версии 3.2 лаунчер проверяет наличие всех файлов и автоматически, при необходимости, перекачивает их.

java.lang.RuntimeException: Unknown character in
Синтаксическая ошибка в конфигурационном файле мода.

Что можно сделать:

  • Удалите указанный в ошибке файл. Мод создаст новый с настройками по умолчанию.
  • Если вам сложно удалить файл, можно сделать сброс конфигов через лаунчер. Нажмите в лаунчере на многоточие на кнопке «Играть»; выберите в меню пункт «Очистка клиента»; установите флажок возле «Сбросить конфигурацию» и запустите очистку.
  • Выполните проверку диска на наличие ошибок. Испорченные файлы могут быть признаком неисправности диска.

java.lang.NullPointerException (NPE)
Ошибка в логике программы: попытка вызвать нестатичный метод, обратиться к полю несуществующего объекта — null.

Решение: Сообщите о проблеме разработчику программы, приложив лог ошибки.

java.net.UnknownHostException
Ошибка сети: не удаётся определить IP-адрес доменного имени (в общем, проблемы с DNS).

Что можно сделать:

  • Иногда ошибка может возникать, если вы не подключены к интернету, либо же произошёл разрыв интернет-соединения. Обычно исчезает сама через небольшой промежуток времени после возобновления соединения. Если ошибка не исчезла — может помочь перезагрузка компьютера (сбрасывает кеш DNS).
  • Доступ к ресурсу заблокирован вашим провайдером. Сейчас данная проблема актуальна для украинских пользователей: используемый нами Яндекс.DNS заблокирован в этой стране. Читайте, как обойти блокировку DNS.

java.io.EOFException: Unexpected end of ZLIB input stream
Неожиданный конец файла. В данном случае — ZIP-архива. Возникает например, когда вы пытаетесь распаковать недокачанный архив.

java.net.SocketException: Address family not supported by protocol family: connect
Проблема возникает из-за неправильной настройки протокола IPv6. Если таковой не поддерживается вашим интернет-провайдером, его поддержку следует отключить.

java.lang.OutOfMemoryError
А вот это как раз «любимая» ошибка про нехватку ОЗУ. Не стоит сразу спешить выставлять память в лаунчере на максимум, потому что дальнейшие действия зависят от сообщения к ошибке:

  • Unable to create new native thread / Metaspace — в вашей системе закончились ресурсы (ОЗУ). Решается только путём завершения всех лишних программ, либо апгрейдом ПК (больше ОЗУ — больше программ можно запустить). Не забывайте, что следует использовать 64-разрядную систему.
  • Java heap space — нехватка размера heap области памяти. Увеличьте лимит памяти в настройках лаунчера.

Unfortunately I don’t have access to the client, so I am just trying to confirm on various reasons this can happen,

  1. Server is trying to read data from the request, but its taking longer than the timeout value for the data to arrive from the client. Timeout here would typically be Tomcat connector → connectionTimeout attribute.

  2. Client has a read timeout set, and server is taking longer than that to respond.

  3. One of the threads I went through, said this can happen with high concurrency and if the keepalive is enabled.

For #1, the initial value I had set was 20 sec, I have bumped this up to 60sec, will test, and see if there are any changes.

Meanwhile, if any of you guys can provide you expert opinion on this, that’l be really helpful. Or for that matter any other reason you can think of which might cause this issue.

No. That would cause a timeout at the client.

That is obviously guesswork, and completely incorrect. It happens if and only if no data arrives within the timeout. Period. Load and keepalive and concurrency have nothing to do with it whatsoever.

It just means the client isn’t sending. You don’t need to worry about it. Browser clients come and go in all sorts of strange ways.

Here are the basic instructions:-

  1. Locate the «server.xml» file in the «conf» folder beneath Tomcat’s base directory (i.e. %CATALINA_HOME%/conf/server.xml).
  2. Open the file in an editor and search for <Connector.
  3. Locate the relevant connector that is timing out — this will typically be the HTTP connector, i.e. the one with protocol="HTTP/1.1".
  4. If a connectionTimeout value is set on the connector, it may need to be increased — e.g. from 20000 milliseconds (= 20 seconds) to 120000 milliseconds (= 2 minutes). If no connectionTimeout property value is set on the connector, the default is 60 seconds — if this is insufficient, the property may need to be added.
  5. Restart Tomcat

actually, the error occurs when you have slow internet so try to maximize the timeout time and then your code will definitely work as it works for me.

I had the same problem while trying to read the data from the request body. In my case which occurs randomly only to the mobile-based client devices. So I have increased the connectionUploadTimeout to 1min as suggested by this link

I have the same issue. The java.net.SocketTimeoutException: Read timed out error happens on Tomcat under Mac 11.1, but it works perfectly in Mac 10.13. Same Tomcat folder, same WAR file. Have tried setting timeout values higher, but nothing I do works.
If I run the same SpringBoot code in a regular Java application (outside Tomcat 9.0.41 (tried other versions too), then it works also.

Mac 11.1 appears to be interfering with Tomcat.

As another test, if I copy the WAR file to an AWS EC2 instance, it works fine there too.

Spent several days trying to figure this out, but cannot resolve.

Suggestions very welcome! :)

This happenned to my application, actually I was using a single Object which was being called by multiple functions and those were not thread safe.

Something like this :

Class A{
    Object B;
    function1(){
        B.doSomething();
    }
    function2(){
        B.doSomething();
    }
}

As they were not threadsafe, I was getting these errors :

redis.clients.jedis.exceptions.JedisConnectionException: java.net.SocketException: Socket is closed

and

redis.clients.jedis.exceptions.JedisConnectionException: java.net.SocketTimeoutException: Read timed out

This is how I fixed it :

Class A{
    function1(){
        Object B;
        B.doSomething();
    }
    function2(){    
        Object B;
        B.doSomething();
    }
}

    Hello Everybody. So recently, a problem has come up revolving around me attempting to connect to a server. To start off, here’s the basic scenario: I start minecraft, log in (which suddenly takes longer than it ever did before, but not by much), go to multiplayer, then select the server. All good so far, for the most part. I’m able to play on the server for about 20 seconds, until it suddenly freezes. This freeze isn’t as in I can’t move or minecraft stops responding, but a very differing kind. Primarily, I can’t open chests, I right-click and nothing happens, I destroy a block but no blocks pop out, everybody stops moving. That seems generic for lag, however, something else happens. I can talk to my cousin on the phone (who in my perspective is standing still even though he is moving), and he tells me that he does see me moving, exactly as I am on my side. From this point, it either goes two ways. One way is that in about 30 seconds, boom, everything suddenly happens, chests open, characters move like lighting, I randomly get a bunch of blocks (Soon, a few seconds later, the problem repeats however). The other way, the more common one, is that eventually about after a minute, «Internal exception: java.net.SocketTimeoutException: Read timed out» appears on my screen. This has been screwing with me recently and really been bogging down my experience.

    A few things to put out. This only occurs on one specific server, but I don’t believe it’s the servers fault. This is because all my friends on the server which I am able to talk over the phone with have perfect connection, they never run into this problem, or really any problem at all. (For interest, some friends live beside me, other’s are across the country). As well, this is only occurring on my desktop. When I connect with my Macintosh Laptop (Which I believe doesn’t even have the most recent java version) this problem is not run into (This of course is using the exact same internet connection). As a final side note, when the server was open, this problem wasn’t really occurring, but instead it started at a later date, and as time went on it’s become worse. There have been little moments where a fix slightly helps my connection, but then the problem comes back right after even more to detriment my connection. As well, my connection is indeed wireless, but I’m practically situated on the opposite side of the house compared to the router. Currently, I have a wired connection as the router is now situated beside me instead.

    Yes, I am currently using Java 64 bit, and the most recent version.
    Yes, I have deleted all Java and re-downloaded it from the website.
    Yes, I have set Minecraft priority to high in the Task Manager every time I open Minecraft.
    Yes, I have completely​ removed minecraft from my computer, and re-installed it.

    What java version? I’m not sure about other people but I have found that you have to install the 32bit version then the 64bit version. Java doesn’t seem to run right and/or crashes a lot when I ahd just the 64bit version. I also found installing the 64bit before the 32 also screws java up. I would suggest uninstalling ALL java versions you may have. Then install 32bit followed by 64bit

    Mabye a problem with your upload speeds? They don’t seem adequate with your download speeds.

    I’ve done tests with the macintosh laptop (in which these problems do not occur) and the results weren’t much different. I had 12 ms Ping, 23.98 Mbps download, and 0.98 Mbps upload (wireless). For one of my friends, who’s located much farther away from the server, he had much less than me in all three categories, so I’m not so sure it’s that. It’s what I would think but I guess we’re wrong.

    I’m positive that I’ve read this and tried it, but it didn’t change anything. I’ll try again and update if anything happens.     I have started experiencing this recently as well. A friend experienced it a few days ago, and then it went away, for no reason that we can determine. I’ve experienced the lag on both the server I have hosted at Beastnode.com and the MassiveCraft rpg server, but not on a mirror of my hosted server running on my local machine. Both the hosted server and the mirrored server run with 512mb of ram and both run with all the same plugins.

    I *believe* the issue is with connecting to Mojang for authentication. I did tractrts to both my hosted server, the MassiveCraft server and to Minecraft.net and the Minecraft.net tracert timed out while the others were fine. I don’t know enough about the authentication though. I know it happens, I know Minecraft.net is involved in the process, but I don’t know anything beyond that.

    Addendum: The issue could also be random network issues with various network providers or even sunspots for all I know. I just believe I know where the general source of the problem is.

    I’ve been having this same problem nearly word for word. I haven’t done as much as you have, such as reinstalling java or Minecraft, but I’m guessing that if it won’t work for you, then it probably won’t work for me either. I’m really hoping there is a fix out there, as this seems like a problem that other people have been having as well (based on Google search).

    Im also in this problem ive tried the following so doing so will not help at all i beleive so, i re installed minecraft & deleted all the files from my mac i also re downloaded java and made sure all things were updated correctly and everything was ok nothing is wrong in the files i have found nothing wrong my java is working correctly -_- im still going to be searching trough but ahh yeah at least im not the only one with this problem. . . :steve_tearful:

    Yes, me and my bf are both having this problem. We can’t play together since this afternoon because of this error! :( We are using both using hamachi if that helps anyone… I really hope someone finds a solution to this.

    And same symptoms as OP — mobs freezing, doors/chests won’t open, ect. I also get massive chunk errors that I fall into and I don’t die.

    The problem was something called ‘tekkit’. It’s something my bf has installed and he says it was the problem. It’s fixed now though.

    Oh hey, we got it fixed.

    The problem was something called ‘tekkit’. It’s something my bf has installed and he says it was the problem. It’s fixed now though.

    May I ask what was done to fix it? Did he just delete all the tekkit stuff?

    Yep, he just uninstalled everything having to do with tekkit and technic launcher. Now it works fine. He hasn’t tried to reinstall any of it yet.

    Yep, he just uninstalled everything having to do with tekkit and technic launcher. Now it works fine. He hasn’t tried to reinstall any of it yet.

    I had tekkit as well so I deleted everything Minecraft and reinstalled. It had appeared to work fine for a while, but sadly the problem has returned and I can only assume it’s the same thing because the Error is the same.

    This is going to be a wild stab in the dark, but i run a server and friend has this problem, the way my server works it doesnt request authentication from minecraft.net (so even people who havent bought the game can actually connect) and when i look at the server log with whats it says when my friend gets the error and it disconnects him it looks like its the server struggles to send the data to him, so could it possibly be something to do with a firewall making it difficult for the server?

    Hello Everybody. So recently, a problem has come up revolving around me attempting to connect to a server. To start off, here’s the basic scenario: I start minecraft, log in (which suddenly takes longer than it ever did before, but not by much), go to multiplayer, then select the server. All good so far, for the most part. I’m able to play on the server for about 20 seconds, until it suddenly freezes. This freeze isn’t as in I can’t move or minecraft stops responding, but a very differing kind. Primarily, I can’t open chests, I right-click and nothing happens, I destroy a block but no blocks pop out, everybody stops moving. That seems generic for lag, however, something else happens. I can talk to my cousin on the phone (who in my perspective is standing still even though he is moving), and he tells me that he does see me moving, exactly as I am on my side. From this point, it either goes two ways. One way is that in about 30 seconds, boom, everything suddenly happens, chests open, characters move like lighting, I randomly get a bunch of blocks (Soon, a few seconds later, the problem repeats however). The other way, the more common one, is that eventually about after a minute, «Internal exception: java.net.SocketTimeoutException: Read timed out» appears on my screen. This has been screwing with me recently and really been bogging down my experience.

    A few things to put out. This only occurs on one specific server, but I don’t believe it’s the servers fault. This is because all my friends on the server which I am able to talk over the phone with have perfect connection, they never run into this problem, or really any problem at all. (For interest, some friends live beside me, other’s are across the country). As well, this is only occurring on my desktop. When I connect with my Macintosh Laptop (Which I believe doesn’t even have the most recent java version) this problem is not run into (This of course is using the exact same internet connection). As a final side note, when the server was open, this problem wasn’t really occurring, but instead it started at a later date, and as time went on it’s become worse. There have been little moments where a fix slightly helps my connection, but then the problem comes back right after even more to detriment my connection. As well, my connection is indeed wireless, but I’m practically situated on the opposite side of the house compared to the router. Currently, I have a wired connection as the router is now situated beside me instead.

    Yes, I am currently using Java 64 bit, and the most recent version.
    Yes, I have deleted all Java and re-downloaded it from the website.
    Yes, I have set Minecraft priority to high in the Task Manager every time I open Minecraft.
    Yes, I have completely​ removed minecraft from my computer, and re-installed it.

    What java version? I’m not sure about other people but I have found that you have to install the 32bit version then the 64bit version. Java doesn’t seem to run right and/or crashes a lot when I ahd just the 64bit version. I also found installing the 64bit before the 32 also screws java up. I would suggest uninstalling ALL java versions you may have. Then install 32bit followed by 64bit

    Mabye a problem with your upload speeds? They don’t seem adequate with your download speeds.

    I’ve done tests with the macintosh laptop (in which these problems do not occur) and the results weren’t much different. I had 12 ms Ping, 23.98 Mbps download, and 0.98 Mbps upload (wireless). For one of my friends, who’s located much farther away from the server, he had much less than me in all three categories, so I’m not so sure it’s that. It’s what I would think but I guess we’re wrong.

    I’m positive that I’ve read this and tried it, but it didn’t change anything. I’ll try again and update if anything happens. (Just presume it doesn’t work because I’m almost certain I’ve tried this before). I’m a little confused on what you mean by «What java version»? On the website I took Java SE 6 Update 31

    I have started experiencing this recently as well. A friend experienced it a few days ago, and then it went away, for no reason that we can determine. I’ve experienced the lag on both the server I have hosted at Beastnode.com and the MassiveCraft rpg server, but not on a mirror of my hosted server running on my local machine. Both the hosted server and the mirrored server run with 512mb of ram and both run with all the same plugins.

    I *believe* the issue is with connecting to Mojang for authentication. I did tractrts to both my hosted server, the MassiveCraft server and to Minecraft.net and the Minecraft.net tracert timed out while the others were fine. I don’t know enough about the authentication though. I know it happens, I know Minecraft.net is involved in the process, but I don’t know anything beyond that.

    Addendum: The issue could also be random network issues with various network providers or even sunspots for all I know. I just believe I know where the general source of the problem is.

    I’ve been having this same problem nearly word for word. I haven’t done as much as you have, such as reinstalling java or Minecraft, but I’m guessing that if it won’t work for you, then it probably won’t work for me either. I’m really hoping there is a fix out there, as this seems like a problem that other people have been having as well (based on Google search).

    Im also in this problem ive tried the following so doing so will not help at all i beleive so, i re installed minecraft & deleted all the files from my mac i also re downloaded java and made sure all things were updated correctly and everything was ok nothing is wrong in the files i have found nothing wrong my java is working correctly -_- im still going to be searching trough but ahh yeah at least im not the only one with this problem. . . :steve_tearful:

    Yes, me and my bf are both having this problem. We can’t play together since this afternoon because of this error! :( We are using both using hamachi if that helps anyone… I really hope someone finds a solution to this.

    And same symptoms as OP — mobs freezing, doors/chests won’t open, ect. I also get massive chunk errors that I fall into and I don’t die.

    Oh hey, we got it fixed.

    The problem was something called ‘tekkit’. It’s something my bf has installed and he says it was the problem. It’s fixed now though.

    Oh hey, we got it fixed.

    The problem was something called ‘tekkit’. It’s something my bf has installed and he says it was the problem. It’s fixed now though.

    May I ask what was done to fix it? Did he just delete all the tekkit stuff?

    Yep, he just uninstalled everything having to do with tekkit and technic launcher. Now it works fine. He hasn’t tried to reinstall any of it yet.

    I had tekkit as well so I deleted everything Minecraft and reinstalled. It had appeared to work fine for a while, but sadly the problem has returned and I can only assume it’s the same thing because the Error is the same.

    This is going to be a wild stab in the dark, but i run a server and friend has this problem, the way my server works it doesnt request authentication from minecraft.net (so even people who havent bought the game can actually connect) and when i look at the server log with whats it says when my friend gets the error and it disconnects him it looks like its the server struggles to send the data to him, so could it possibly be something to do with a firewall making it difficult for the server?

    i know this is kind of the same blah but here is a list of things i did befor getting this error (exactly same err) : downloading steam, texturepaks, messing around with nodus, rearranging files, deleting and un deleting minecraft.jar, adding optifine but failing, forceing updates , using mc patcher… thats all i recall befor i click on multiplayer wait wait wait for the server to log me in then blah blah blah internal exception blah u know the whole story now … tell me if u did any thing on the list i gave -jarjarmaster ill take any advise

    Read time out explains that it is a simple timeout error, the server is not responding in time, the minecraft servers have gone offline right now, just sit tight untill they come back online.

    Its not the server’s fault , my friends can stay on … it just kicks me off everytime, so it must be a minecraft issue ? maybe someone did something to it ?

    Update after trying everything, including reformatting my computer. I logged on to the server in issue.
    things were working fine and seemed to be fixed. until I used the /home command. I spawned and problem started again

    It looks to be an issue with DNS. so try something like this, worked for me!

    Start — Run — cmd — ipconfig /flushdns

    The same thing happened to me, although it was when I was trying to CONNECT to the server it gave me the Java error screen. The Java thing should be temporary, but I don’t know about the lag.

    One of the moderators on my server has this issue. I’ve done everything I can for her over TeamViewer, and absolutely nothing works. She is forced out of the server in less than ten seconds.

    Tried to do it, but it doesnt do anythin when I type /flushdns .. I type ipconfig, and it does some thing, then I try /flushdns but not doing anything.. am I doing something wrong?

    i too have this problem… the server i play on was working well, until it updated after it got hacked. then it started getting the java errors, but it seems to only affect me, not anyone else. is this a problem for me or the server?

    I’ve been having issues with servers lately as well. They aren’t too bad, but once I start timing out, it gets pretty intense.

    I’ve seemed to get rid of the read time out error by flushing my dns (Start — Run — cmd- type ipconfig /flushdns), unistalling and reinstalling java, setting minecraft priority to high, setting minecraft affinity to only cpu 1, and clearing some old caches. Now, i get the second error, java.net.socket.socketexception:connection reset. Both errors still apear to come, and I haven’t found any other way to stop them. So much work and it still won’t work…

    Ya Have the same problem, and I run the a server off my comp. It really annoys my friends and the people on my server. So much infact that I have to give the server away to one of my friends. Now I have log block and it only started when I used log block. Hopefully that helps. But my upload, download speed is ridiculously good. I have 4 gigs on my comp, and 1 gig dedicated to the server with max slots at 20. I really want to know whats wrong its been killing me. Plus I’m also making a big 125 slot server with 10 gigs of ram dedicated to it (I’m getting a 16 gig upgrade). AND I NEED TO KNOW WHAT THE HECK IS WRONG!

    I’ll post if I find out more.

    Oh and I have a domain and a subdomain. Hopefully that helps? I also have a mac.

    I’ve been having the exact same problem. I’ve tried everything suggested in this thread and the others I’ve seen. It has to be Minecraft. My computer is an i5 with 6gb of ram. My cousin has a little that’s like 10 years old and his minecraft works fine. Mine has kind of fixed itself, it went from not working,to only working in the morning and afternoon, but I can’t get on in the evenings. My computer is more than capable of running minecraft, but recently I get logged out after 10 seconds or so (during this time, I am incapable of breaking blocks, speaking, or doing any commands). I get these errors:

    internal exception java.net.socketexception connection reset by peer socket write error <— This one is after I break some blocks
    internal exception: java.net.sockettimeoutexception:read timed out <—— This is if I try any commands or wait 10 seconds

    I’m ready to restore my PC, but I’m hesitant because Minecraft is the only thing that isn’t working at the moment. I had AVG at one point, I have since uninstalled it. I’ve turned off my firewalls. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled Java and Minecraft numerous times. I’ve reset my PC, tried different servers, I’ve tried the ipconfig command, I’ve forced update like 20 times, I’ve reset my router, hell I’ve even tried a different router……..AAAAARRRRGGGGGGG!!!!!!! I sure hope 1.3 is better

    I find it kind of humerous how so many people can have the same problem, and it not be noticed or fixed. The most help I’ve recieved, are from tech-savvy members of the minecraft community taking time out of their day to make suggestions.

    I find it interesting how it only happens to me in the evenings, and someone said it only happens to them in the daytime. Could it be related to our internet providers, I use Rogers, and I hear they’ve been throttling people allot lately. Could it have anything to do with that? Who else has Rogers?

    I’m the same in this area, I do encounter this error in the mornings and afternoons, but mostly in the evenings. I as well have rogers; so this problem might be caused by our ISP.

    Same problem for me. I’ve been assuming its because i have a shitty processor. Minecraft alone, maxes out my CPU usage. But lately, i really dont know anymore. Because some of the posts i’ve seen here, are by people with good processors, yet they have this problem too.

    I’ve tried updating/uninstalling java, disabling firewalls and virus protector, untinstalling certain mods/texture packs, nothing seems to work. I dont have «rogers» internet though. And my internet connection is always perfectly fine. So i dont think it’s internet providers. Someone said it might be minecraft.net, but i doubt that as well. Because i have an account that isnt even registered to minecraft.net, and i get the same problem with it.

    Also, an interesting thing is that there are moments throughout the day, when the game works just fine. I go on multiplayer servers and get no lag at all. That kind of made me think that i might just be overheating my laptop or something. I’m at a loss though. I was almost certain it was because of a crappy CPU. I have a celeron in my laptop. TERRIBLE for gaming.

  1. So I am not new to hosting a home server at all. I know how to do it, I know how to port forward, change settings, install plugins, the whole thing. So everything was working fine until I decided to do a clean intall of Vista ( was previously running Vista before I wiped everything) but I backed up my server on a flash drive before as to not lose anything. The install went fine and the computer works great!

    Except now I get kicked from the server 30 seconds after joining and a message says:
    «Internal Exception : java.net.SocketTimeoutException : Read Timed Out»

    This ONLY HAPPENS TO ME. The server is running on the vista and I am trying to connect to it on my wireless macbook on the same network. I have been doing it like this for months with no problems but now it times me out.

    Everyone else on other networks can join the server fine with no lag or anything.

    I can connect to the server fine but after I join I almost immediately time out ( within 1 minute ).

    I can join other servers just fine with no lag or anything also…

    So whats up with this? Why is it just starting now? I have had this setup for months with no issues and now I get timed out of my own server literally every time I try to play. Please offer me any advice on what to do. I’ll even pay someone 5 bucks who can help me fix this problem otherwise my hosting days are over. PLEASE RESPOND WITH ANY ADVICE. Thank you so much.

    Also sometimes, the screen gets stuck on «downloading terrain» and then after a while it will say
    «connection lost : timed out»

    EDIT: I also discovered I can run a server from my laptop from the same port that the desktop server is running on. It normally would say «ERROR: COULD NOT BIND TO PORT, IS THERE ANOTHER SERVER RUNNING ON THAT PORT» but now it does nothing so this makes me think something is wrong with the internal network connection. But I’m not sure.
    EDIT: This person seemed to have the same problem I did but nobody answered him.

    EDIT: Turns out I just needed to update the drivers on the server computer. Thanks again for all the help guys!

  2. When this happens it is usually a connection or client/server response problem.
    «Read Timed Out» means that the client/server could not read data from the other and after a certain amount of time, stopped trying and returned an error.
    The game has an internal timer that (when not communicating with the server correctly) begins to count to 30 seconds. If, after that half minute, there is still no response, it gives the error you have. The Nodus grief client i use (why grief? building is so much funner) makes this timer visible on the HUD so i know exactly when there is lag on the server. Will test in a moment.

  4. Edit: Went on your server for about 5 — 10 minutes and there wasn’t any lag at all. My lag-timer never appeared. Commands and chat responded instantly. Actions and interactions did not have a delayOne cause might be you playing on your server from the same computer that you host it from. That together can use a lot of cpu+ram. Network usage may also be an issue. If the network has more users than it can handle it can delay connections.

  6. Sorry, but idk what could be going wrong with the server. It couldn’t be a cpu, ram, or network overload. Whenever you disconnected and reconnected, I never experienced anything. If it was any of the above three reasons, or just general lag, my lag timer would have started up from 0 but it never once appeared in the hour or so i was on the server, yet you kept having issues. In any of those 4 cases there would be a delayed response from the server/client but it was a perfectly good connection the whole time.

    BTW get a chat anti-spam plugin. the lag some users could create with chat spam is very bad. Even if only your friends play on it, they may get unhappy about something one day and… Well its just a good idea.

    10 or so minutes of me playing on your server, NO PROBLEMS! You come on, get error and d/c, I get….. nothing… :(

  7. Thanks for at least trying. My hosting days might be over if I can’t figure this out. Im just pissed because everything was working fine for months and then I do a clean install of Vista and this starts….

  9. It is already. Nothing changed…. And it’s every wireless computer on my network that times out. Like my other laptop on the same network times out as well but again, people trying to get on from anywhere else it works flawlessly. And it didn’t used to do this.

  10. Then turn online mode to true. Also what are you typing in for the ip address when you try to connect? Is it the one everyone else uses?

  11. I usually use the one everyone else uses to connect and that worked fine but now it doesn’t. I have also tried connecting with my local internet ip (192.168.*.*) and the same thing happens. I log in and get kicked within 30 seconds and timed out

    I will honestly pay like 10 bucks to whoever can solve this because I honestly have tried everything I can think of.

    This person sounds like they had the same problem I have http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/606524-minecraft/62554098 and they said they fixed it by doing this. «When I forwarded the Port on my router (D-Link) it gave me a box to put the IP Address in, but all you have to do is select the device (PC, Laptop or whatever else you have) & press a button, it then inputs the correct IP Address. That was the IP I used to connect, & It worked.» No idea what that means. Maybe they meant they used the 192.168.*.* address but that didnt work for me

    So can anyone give me any tips? I’ve tried putting in the local network ip. (192.168.*.*). Connected but still timed out within a minute. Then I tried (192.168.*.*:25565). Same thing. And still the ip everyone else uses works for them but when I try it, I time out within a minute like the others…

  12. It sounds like it’s an issue with the portforwarding. I had this problem a while ago and I don’t remember exactly how to fix it but if I were you I would mess around with the portforwarding a little more.

  14. The server is on the same network. I am not actually on the same computer the server is onOkay. Not sure what else I can really do as I have already forwarded the correct port but i will look again. Can you remember anything about what you did to solve it?

  16. Did you change the amount of RAM you allocated your server? Did you use anything like MC Patcher to change your client in any way?

    Your hosting days are fine. Your ability to play on the same system you host from is not.

    I changed the amount of ram but then i changed it back after. I am not playing on the same system. I am playing on a different system than the server but on the same networkI was actually thinking about doing that but ive never used linux before. Would that even help my problem though?

  19. Have you tried not connecting from a wireless connection in your LAN, but a wired one instead?

    Is your wireless access point also your router?

  20. I have not tried a wired connection but even if it worked it would be super inconvinient to use regularly. And yes it isWhat version of linux would you recommend?

  21. I didn’t say you had to stick with wired if it were to work. It sounds like your router is having issues with the network traffic, so I suggested wired to eliminate one aspect of that situation.

    You may want to look into updating your wireless drivers on your server (assuming your server is also on a wireless connection).

  22. CentOS (I’ve used 5.6 and 5.8) (It’s rather large)
    Or Ubuntu, TnT can tell you proper versions of Ubuntu to use.

  23. My server is on a wired connection. But things worked fine until I did a clean install of windows so im not sure what could have changed there to make it so i couldnt play on the same network anymore…

  24. Try updating your wired nic drivers?

    What IP are you connecting to? Internal or external?

  25. How do I update wired drivers on vista? And I tried connecting to both. They both let me connect but time me out within 30 seconds

    What could cause my network to time me out of my own connection but others it lets play? Is there some sort of internet setting I could try playing with to see? If not I can try updating the drivers

    I’m going to make you DMZ your computer’s ip from your networks firewall
    (Hope your regular firewall is decent)
    These things tend to act as blockers to inter network connecting

    Also I need you to set your firewall to allow private connection on the port you are using for minecraft

    lool call your isp they might have you on a limited bandwidth running a server and playing on the same server through the same network can eat alot of bandwidth and some asses of companies will limit your bandwidth.. really sounds to me like internet overload 2 reasons others can sign in and you cant from the same network = has to be the network try signing in on a different network like a friends house if you can you might want to pay a little more for internet speed especially upload

  28. No no It is an interal network problem. If he cannot connect within the house it has something to do the router inside the house, not his ISP.

  29. I have a NETGEAR router. Not sure what DMZ is but that solution sounds like a fix to the exact problem I have. I have completely disabled the firewall on the server just while I was testing solutions so everything should be down.

  30. You completely re-installed your OS. That means your driver and patch levels completely changed. You may also have changed how you are connecting to the server. There are many reasons that could have caused that.
