[Solved] VLC ‘Audio output failed’ no sound from anything
Very new to Arch so not sure what outputs to post.
I installed arch about a week ago with no dramas, then after installing xfce-volumed I lost all sound and got this from vlc:
Audio output failed:
The audio device «default» could not be used:
No such file or directory.
So I did a new install and only installed vlc and the same thing happened again.
Here is the terminal output from vlc:

Вообще не один плеер не проигрывает видео, уже полазил куча бреда по устанавливал и всё равно не работает!
Пишет если через терминал:
это часть ffmpeg.
Поставь ffmpeg и посмотри будет ли проигрываться
Что не помогло? ffprobe где?
В Suse VLC из-за американских законов не умеет декодировать собственнические форматы вроде H.264, который обычно бывает в контейнерах m4v. Ставь VLC из репозитория packman.
Та и установил этот репозиторий, только как поставить с него хз, уже по на устанавливал всего и нечего не помогает
В сузе выпилили яст ?
Меня бы любой плеер устроил, главное что бы показывало, но не работает не на одном: mpv (выключается как только добавлю) gragon (не реагирует) smplayer
Он там как то не так уже работает!
Как в нем установить правильно?
Через яст пробовал короче нечего не меняется! Проблема еще в том, что во всех видеоплеерах не работает вообще не одно мое видео!
В VLC только звук слышно и все !
Все решено, надо было поставить vlc-codecs в YaST2 поставил!
Мультимедиа пакеты надо тоже на packman репозиторий перевести.
во первых прочитай про частицы «не» и «ни».
Во вторых почитай инструкции ОпенСусе, как ставить пакеты из разных источников.
И в третьих — вообще привыкни читать, перед тем как писать. Читать и думать.

В YAST можно открыть вкладку «Репозитории», выбрать репозиторйи Packman, и появится кнопка «Перевести системные пакеты на версии из этого репозитория»

Я рад, что всё наконец-то работает. Советую также сделать так, как на картинке. Кстати, на картинке Qt-интерфейс YAST. А в GTK-интерфейсе такого может не быть
Годы идут, ничего не меняется.
Свали уже на винду, всем только лучше от этого станет.

У меня на Linux Mint 18 (Ubuntu 16.04 LTS) была такая же проблема — все плееры, включая VLC, в лучшем случае воспроизводили только звук и не могли декодировать любое видео. Оказалось дело в драйверах видеокарты NVidia. Стояли 380-какие-то, откатился на версию 340 и все заработало как положено. Может поможет кому.

Make sure sof-firmware is installed, if it is and you don’t get more devices you might just be in one of the current buggy situations for sof-firmware and need to report a bug to the sof-firmware project.
FWIW as a test, do any of

One thing you can try though it’s not going to work anymore on newer HW is enforcing the older snd_hda_intel driver which might still have support for things, to do that you’d add a file in /etc/modprobe.d/dspcfg.conf
and reboot. That will guaranteed break mic support regardless but might give you an analog device.

I tried this, but still no sound.
I bought a new external sound card in case it was my sound card that had the problem. Although the system recognizes the new sound card, it does not output sound.

I am running the latest version of VLC on Debian 9.6
there are several audio formats for AV-files, such as AC3, AAC, E-AC-3, etc.
most of them play well with the latest version of VLC, but AC3 with the codec-ID A_AC3 do not have sound.
should I use another start-option ??
if so, which one ??

there is only only entry with S/DIF and it is not checked.

Hi, I have a fedora27 system with vlc 3.0.0-rc2 and libdvbpsi.so.10 and having trouble with playing streaming video from my HD HomeRun tuner. This problem has existed for at least a year, through fedora25, 26, and 27 upgrades. My tuner works fine with VLC on windows. I’ve also worked extensively with the HD HomeRun people and they believe it’s a vlc/fedora problem.
The problem I’m having is with video dropout throughout the entire time the streaming video channel is being viewed/played. Below are the error messages printed on the terminal where hdhomerun is started. There is audio, but it is also momentarily interrupted when the video drops out.
Please let me know what further information I can provide to help troubleshoot this.

I’ve actually just done that. Are you able to review the content of this file and use it to help determine what’s wrong? This is a 60s video that shows the audio/video dropout as I described.

This mostly fixed my problem too. There’s still occasional dropout, but it could be related to the antenna itself. After nearly two years of dealing with dropout, working with the HD HomeRun people, as well as the VideoLAN people without any clues or solutions, your comment helped fix it.
I’m surprised the Fedora folks who packaged the hdhomerun package didn’t require libdvdcss2 as a dependency.

Не работает VLC
В версии 6.0.52 проблема с VLC. С 5 разных терминалов одинаковая ситуация.

При этом тут же в десктопной версии VLC на Windows 10 всё отрабатывает корректно. На версии 5.8.56 всё было нормально.

Ну и последние строки так и повторяются циклично. В целом понятно. В момент создания лога к терминалу не подключены аудиоустройства, а камера передаёт и звук в том числе.
Если нужно, могу предоставить аппаратную конфигурацию терминалов. Но их 5 штук и они все разные. Начиная от старенького AMD Athlon II до Intel NUC 7. В чем может быть проблема?

1. Попробуй разные video= Если машина интеловая, то должны поехать video=intel(U) и video=modesetting(U)
2. Покажи оба лога целиком. Не надо отрезать от логов всё интересное. Можно на aka@pxe.ru

2. Попробовал оба режима. Не хотел отрезать от логов «всё самое интересное»))

Там всего четыре пункта. Первый, третий и четвертый выполнены. Осталось выполнить второй пункт. Думаю, поедет после удаления строки «bpp=16».

Да, проблема ушла.
Параметр bpp
Глубина цвета задается параметром bpp.
Просьба, укажите в документации, что этот параметр глобальный. Он будет действовать на все application. Chrome, VLC, RDP. Потому как обычно глубину цвета задают для RDP-подключений. В связи с этим вопрос. Почему в версии 5.8.56 всё отрабатывало корректно?

Не знаю. Может, в VLC сломали 16-битный цвет потому что он не нужен? Лишнее преобразование при выводе. Кодеки всё равно с байтом или больше на каждый цвет работают.

Hard to say without logs. Make sure you did not mistakenly enable S/PDIF passthrough.

S/PDIF passthrough is not enabled.
pls note that the only audio that is not working is AC-3, several other specs. are fine.

That is symptomatic of incorrectly enabled S/PDIF pass-through. Needs verbose logs to confirm.

I went to Menu — Tools and selected «all»
there is only only entry with S/DIF and it is not checked.
next I did:

there is nothing in pavucontrol relating to passthrough.
so, I went through the available documentation and made changes to the settings.
and now it works

У меня есть видео (с mediaifo показано всё ниже)
По какой то причине данное видео показывается в винде на vlc.
В calculate linux vlc при запуске этого файла сразу закрывается. А smplayer большую часть видео файлов, в том числе и этот файл — звучит только звук, даже показа черного экрана заместо видео нет.
Вопросы.
1. Как на nix просматривать этот файл?
2. Что именно с mediainfo надо смотреть, чтобы искать кодеки под nix?

Подсказали решение в чате. Надо было поставить форк mpv так как стандартный mplayer по отзывам очень плохо поддерживает все видеокарты. У меня при подключенном mpv в smplayer после всех эксперементов с настройками в кодеках так и не заработал, а зато из консоли в vaapi заработало всё отлично.

При этом это уже не первый раз, просто раньше просто смотрел на винде тогда. Вот хочу понять и разобраться.

С форматом Matroska проблемы были всегда, насколько я помню. Так, чтобы vlc именно падал, не видел ни разу, а вот, чтобы не было изображения, но был звук — частенько наблюдал.
Сам vlc обновляли? Заодно с libmatroska.
Мудрость приходит с возрастом.
Иногда возраст приходит один.

У вас глючная версия или сборка чего-то, что используется плеером. Возможно, самого плеера, возможно, какой-то библиотеки, а возможно, видеодрайвера.

В calculate linux vlc при запуске этого файла сразу закрывается. А smplayer большую часть видео файлов, в том числе и этот файл — звучит только звук, даже показа черного экрана заместо видео нет.

Smplayer — это, собственно, морда к mplayer,
но mplayer лично мне удобней по причине управления с клавиатуры и вывода ошибок сразу в терминал.

Почему то я был уверен, что у меня звук выводится через alsa (но не особо в этом понимаю). Есть множество файлов, которые в vlc показываются нормально, а в smplayer звука видео нет.
Попробовал запустить бэтмен в mplayer. Там такая особенность. Идёт кино минуты полторы, потом звук отключается и картинка нагоняет звук. При этом глядя на экран и стоя возле колонок такое чувство, что реально и картинка не все кадры показывает и звук с сниженой скоростью работает. Как так — не знаю.

Да, обновления у меня постоянные, но вот что там за обновления с libmatroska я не знаю. Вроде помню, что я делал что то именно для матроска, но ваще не помню что. vlc у меня версии 3.0.7.1 vetinari

У вас формат видеодорожки VC-1 Я про такой впервые слышу, но посмотрел в сети. Это формат (a.k.a wmv9), предложенный M$ взамен H.264. Так что — ничего удивительного

Это либо из-за кодеков (ac3 частенько преподносит сюрпризы, а уж VC-1 — вообще нормально не работает),
либо просто криво собранный файл. Например, в mkv есть возможность указывать смещения дорожек относительно друг друга, разные плееры воспринимают это по-разному — можно вполне получить рассинхрон. В Вашем случае больше похоже на проблему с кодеками.

А кстати, я сразу не сообразил, файл-то у Вас огромный.
Это же в mplayer оно так себя ведет? А когда это начинается, mplayer ничего в терминал не выплёвывает?
Типа YOUR SYSTEM TOO SLOW или что-нибудь в этом роде.
Если так, значит, плеер не успевает обрабатывать потоки.
Либо действительно слабая машина, либо нагружена чем-то помимо проигрывания — не хватает ресурсов.
Картинка там большая. Если у Вас монитор не большой, плеер на лету пересчитывает размер кадра под текущее разрешение и, вероятнее всего, не успевает.
На экране с YOUR SYSTEM TOO SLOW обычно есть рекомендация, что можно сделать (задать кеш при проигрывании, запустить проигрывание в сниженном качестве, разрешить пропуск кадров и т.п.).

точно нет, нашёл в vlc настройки аудио, стояло автоматически. Попробовал alsa, pulseaudio, фиктивный вывод звука. Во всех случаях на данном файле vlc падал при запуске.

вот скорее всего ответ в этом. У меня слабенький комп, методом научного тыка я узнал, что в его встроенной видеокарте есть кодек x264 который поозволяет проигрывать формат h264 на fullHD. То есть мощности хватает для 30 кадров, но только с аппаратным ускорением.
А ведь здесь используется другой кодек, то есть аппаратной поддежки нет.
но есть другая сторона медали.

сейчас loadavg у меня 4, а ядер 2, так как ffmpeg конвертирует видео. Тем не менее другой файл, также fhd который и раньше и сейчас показывается в vlc без тормозов. А именно это же видео тормозит в mplayer. То есть может дело в том, что mplayer пытается юзать только процессор, а vlc автоматически подхватывает аппаратное ускрение?

Если собран с флагом opengl, то должен.

нет к сожалению. Хотя он собран с opengl, но после запуска
mplayer -vo gl мой файл который показывает на vlc
фризы остаются, изображение догоняет звук.

При этом если в vlc зайти в настройки видео — то там работает вывод именно на OpenGL без фризов. И картинка прям ощутимо быстрее идёт и тормозов нет, и зависаний нет. Другие режимы вывода видео в vlc подвисают значительно больше, чем в mplayer. Также в vlc не имеет значение вывожу я картинку на весь экран или в окне (в mplayer картинка выводится только в окне).
В mplayer я перепробовал все опции по -vo. У меня звук подвисал даже в matrixview. Кое какие режимы не срабатывали или работал только звук без запуска окна плеера.

У меня подобные сообщения появлялись и на файлах гораздо меньшего размера, чем Ваш.
Именно по причине «slow media», то есть недостаточно быстрого считывания с диска.
При этом на процессе проигрывания это никак не отражалось, плеер просто в какой-то момент выплёвывал сообщение и ехал дальше, делать ничего не приходилось.
Поэтому для начала попробуйте дать ему кеш. Согласно рекомендации. Этого может оказаться достаточно.
Не исключено, что vlc кеширует по умолчанию, поэтому в нём тормозов нет.
По поводу (не)использования плеером аппаратной обработки x264 ничего сказать не могу — никогда не интересовался. И в моём железе (amd) этого, скорее всего, нету. В спецификации на MB это не упоминается,
а поверхностный поиск в гугель дает только решения от интел.

нет, mplayer -vo gl -cashe 16384 и другие значения кеша так и не помогли. Но картинка стала немного более плавно зависать, без рывков.

Про научный тык получается так. Прежде чем искать что то в спецификациях, надо сперва понять, что искать. То есть сперва я разбирался, что даже в интегрированном процессоре нет инструкций для x264 надо искать в видеокарте. Потом я только благодаря тому, что прочитал у бездельника аналогичную команду нашёл для своего процессора. И только потом я уже добрался до спецификаций и прочитал об этом. То есть чтобы понять, что есть две разные команды

vainfo
у меня ушёл ни один день и иначе бы я никак их не нашёл.
Вот у меня есть декодирование h.264 так как VAProfileH264Main. Vlc его подхватывает, браузеры подхватывают. А mplayer показывает мой проблемный файл, но о видеокарте ничего не знает.

Просто берем и читаем. И видим, что эта железяка умеет, а что нет.
Такие вещи как «аппаратная поддержка чего-то там» обычно преподносятся как суперфишки и рекламируются,

Я не понял, а «встроенная видеокарта» — она «встроена» куда? Не в процессор? В чипсет на материнке?
Вообще-то серверный мост (который и содержит встроенное видео) переехал в процы уже давным-давно.
Я в 2011 году покупал железяки — оно уже было так.

Вот из за этого я и пошёл по неверному пути, в результатет думал, что мой проц не умеет аппаратно видео декодировать. Плюс к этому дебиан, убунту, вин 7 — fhd на моём компе не показывали. А калька, внезапно, стала показывать.
Не помню когда я по времени разобоался, что смотреть надо именно видеокарту и для неё отдельные команды и флаги и в разных процах может быть одинаковая видеокарта.

можно проигрывать Blu-ray с аппаратным ускорением. Про h264 ни слова. Что вполне соотносится с другими спецификациями.
Хотя vdpauinfo вроде как утверждает обратное.
Меня с самого начала смутило то, что vdpauinfo — это утилита для карт Nvidia.
У нас с Вами карты немного другие. (;
Следовательно, утилита может наврать.
Скажем, декодер есть, но он ни разу не аппаратный.
Вывод: Если некая программа показывает результат, не совпадающий со спецификацией, я склонен верить спецификации.
По Вашим железкам я вообще не нашёл толком информации об аппаратных декодерах/энкодерах.
На различных сайтах вскользь упоминается об этих возможностях (как вот здесь, например), но официальных сведений найти не удалось.
А вообще, арчвики, например, рассказывает, с чем едят это ускорение вообще, и в mplayer в частности.
Если Вы всё-таки уверены, что поддержка этого дела у Ваших железяк есть, пробуйте.

Я ради смеха скачал Ваш файл и попробовал в разных плеерах.
Описанная Вами проблема не наблюдается. Вообще. Ждал минут тридцать.
Никаких сообщений, никаких рассинхронов, никаких фризов. Без всяких аппаратных ускорений.
Объем RAM у меня 8Гб, доступно 5Гб.
Правда, процессор четырехъядерный. Запускал на одном ядре.
Монитор 15 дюймов, разрешение соответствующее. Работает как в окне, так и в полноэкранном режиме.
Нагрузка на проц — порядка 60%.
Хотел ещё помучить это самое аппаратное ускорение, но для этого драйвер нужно новее, пока некогда с ним разбираться.
Пускай скрипят мои конечности.

какой файл вы скачали? Кино с рутреккера? С таким же кодеком и параметрами?
И почему вы свои 4 ядра сравниваете с моими 2 на 1.1 ггц? У вас может физически проц тянет fhd.

Не с рутрекера. Искал на просторах сети.

Ну уж, какие есть. Но запускал я всё-таки на одном ядре. Хотя частота другая, да.
И нагрузка на это ядро была порядка 60%. Предполагаю, что с аппаратным ускорением было бы 20-30%.

Да я не сравниваю. Просто у меня машина по нынешним временам тоже не слишком мощная.
Во всяком случае, смотреть кино в файлах по 30Гб — на это я уж точно не рассчитывал.
Стало интересно, что там за файл. Скачал вот. А оно вот взяло и запустилось без всяких проблем.

Может. А может и нет. По крайней мере, аппаратного декодирования x264 нет точно.
А у Вас, стало быть, с vaapi всё взлетело в итоге?
И как нагрузка? В сети народ говорит, что нагрузка на проц различается в несколько раз: 20-30 процентов с ускорением и процентов 60 без ускорения. Ну это помимо чисто визуальной оценки, что ничего не тормозит.

я файл именно этот удалил, только по новой скачать. Есть другие аналогичные.
Я нагрузку не замерял.
Суть проблемы в том, что vlc почему то подхватывает драйвера на видеокарту. А mplaer нет. А mpv подхватывает, но теряет кадры.

don’t install a flatpak if works the same in firejail, you have permission issues and vlc does not connect to network if no permissions are given. usempvwith no issues or find your issues:
So I tried that command and didn’t get any errors related to vlc. I’m fairly new to LM, I ran it as you typed and also replaced «$USER» with my user account name—which gave the same result of errors not related to vlc (compiled a package a while back that works fine and errors for that showed up).
Installed mpv and running «firejail mpv ~/Downloads/ a_video_file.mp4» also does not work…
It’s strange on my old hp laptop I have no issue with running firejail vlc/celluloid. The only difference between the two systems I can think of is the kernel is different because my Dell machine had problems running on the LTS kernel series, and the cpu/intergrated grahphics is AMD radeon if that matters, otherwise I set them both up the same.

And you will get VLC latest version, 3.0.16.

I’ll give this a shot, been avoiding flatpaks as I’ve heard there not the best practice but I guess I don’t have much choice lol. If it accomplishes sandboxing potentially malicious files then great works with me!
