[Maxscript] DotNet DataGridView + MultiThreading = error while garbage collection

I’m working on a script and observed a weird behavior and wanted to share it with you guys. I deleted everything which isn’t necessary — that’s why the structure of the script might seems confuse.

Situation
I use a DotNet DataGridView and fill it via MultiThreading (CSharpUtilities.SynchronizingBackgroundWorker) with data.

Problem
When i start the script and do a manual garbage collection afterwards (enter gc() in the script listener and hit enter), i get this error in some cases:

An unknown error occurred while MAXScript was
performing garbage collection.
If you get this error multiple times, recommend restarting max

Test Results
I found several places in the script which i can change to fix the problem. I can’t explain why that is, but i want to share the knowledge with you and maybe you can explain it to me or it helps other people in the future.

1. Copy this code and execute it in 3Ds Max
2. Do a manual garbage collection (via gc() in the script listener)
3. You should get the error message (see above)

Workaround #1

(Not really a solution because it will disable the multithreading, but at least you don’t get the GC error anymore)

1. Restart 3Ds Max
2. Change the line addThread #(addItemImage,»») to addItemImage() in the on gckick open do (-section.
3. Execute the script
4. When i do a manueal garbage collection now, i DON’T get any error

Workaround #2

1. Restart 3Ds Max (and revert all your previous script-changes if you made any)
2. Change the line gckick.height = 600 + 60 to gckick.height = 660 in the resizeList-function.
3. Execute the script
4. When i do a manueal garbage collection now, i DON’T get any error

I have no idea why the GC doesn’t drop an error after the change in the resizeList function. But I’m happy that i found a «solution» and hope this post will help future people. Or someone can explain what’s going on here.

Solution #1

Kind of a solution was to not call the resizeList() function directly from the multi threaded function addItemImage() since this seems to produce problems. I used a timer which is started before i call the multithreaded function and this timer checks a global bool-variable. This variable is set to true by the multithreaded function when it’s done. Then the timer reacts to the now true variable, calls resizeList() and deactives itself again.

Since i upgrade my RAM from 8GB to 16GB i get often this error:

MAXScript Garbage Collection Error:

An unknown error occurred while MAXScript was performing garbage collection. If you get this error multiple times, recommend restarting max.

This comes if i «reset» the scene or open a other scene.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Survey Data Collection Link Error

We use Survey Data Collection Link to convert our file formats, in this case it is a GPS job exported from a TSC2 using Trimble Survey Controller Version 12.46.  I exported the job from the data collector as a .csv file then use SDCL to convert the .csv into a .fbk file.  I am getting this error saying the file is invalid or in use.  We ran into this problem a couple months ago and it disappeared after a couple days, and now it has resurfaced.

Running Autocad Civil 3d 2012 with Service Pack 2, Windows 7 64-bit OS.

I am trying to clean up my block that i have made and there seems to be some lingering text styles?

I only am using the one? There doesn’t appear to be any more hidden layers or entities in the drawing? Yet when i try to delete these text styles from the text styles manager, it won’t let me? It keeps telling me it is in use?

Note: Purge doesn’t work within in the block editor it seems, and if i open the .dwg and do not go into the block editor, purge finds nothing to purge?

User reboots computer, logs into network, opens the printer properties on one of our HP plotters, and the print properties pages show just fine. 

The user will open Inventor, and attempt to print a drawing, and the print settings page shows in all weird characters.

We have applied all service packs and hot fixes. How do we get this to show normal like it does on all the other programs?

Lightroom :: Smart Collection — Can Source Be Named Collection Set?

If I specify a smart collection rule that says the source must be a collection matching some pattern, does this only apply to actual collections and exclude collection sets?

I was hoping fo a way to build a rule based on the collection set … is this possible?

I also tried matching Any Searchable Text set to the collection set name, but that doesn’t seem to work…wouldn’t all photos in the collection set be associated with that string? Looks like no.

 There used to be a way I thought that you could submit a new thread after doing a question search. That seems to be gone.

I’m running Photoshop Elements 5.0. Everything was working fine til this mornin. I’ve had the program for about a year now. When I tried to open it this morning I got this error message that popped up.

It says:

Unable to continue because of a hardware or system error. Sorry, but this error is unrecoverable.

I’ve tried repairing the program. That didn’t work. Restarted my computer. That didn’t work. Uninstalled the program and tried opening it again. That didn’t work. I’m at a loss! I really need to get into my program b/c my work is there. I tried opening some of my files (they are located in my Pictures folder) and they pop up with the same message.

3ds Max :: How To Categorize Collection Of Polygons

I found a nice model on the web but i just started out so got a few questions. The standaard model exists of 1 editable mesh that i converted to editable poly.

in Editable Poly — Polygon: Material IDs, I had categorized the model in 3 diffrent groups, i want to use these 3 groups to texture the model, each group a diffrent texture.

the problem is that from the moment i assign the material to selection, I only have 2 groups left; wich is the one i just textured and the other 2 meshed in 1 group.

the problem with that is that i can only texture my model using 2 diffrent textures. How can i «save» those groups?

though the Nik-Collection-Filters are listed (and installed) in PS CC 64, they do not work properly. The first visible difference is, that the «panel» of the various filters is not displayed when I start PS, but it is in the 32 bit version.Even if I want to apply an Nik-Filter on an image nothing changes, but it does in 32 bit mode.

I an trying to access the complete blocks collection but I’m not having much luck

What I’m doing is changing the style of the block attributes using objectdbx.

I can change all of the model and paperspace block attributes but I can’t seem to be able to access the un-inserted blocks in the blocks table.

After running my app all of the «visible» blocks are changed but when I insert a block from the dwg the style has not changed.

I keep my photos on an external drive. The drive was named J. It then failed and when reinstalled it was named K. I was able to relike the photos to the new name K drive, however,

 I am not able to see the photos that were previously in my collection sets. I see the blank images and the editing icons but no actual images, The photos are in the catalog.  How can I relink them to my catalog?

In Lightroom 4, I would like to copy a catalog from machine 1 to machine 2, and while someone else is working on machine 1, I would like to create a collection on machine 2, and then just move that collection back onto machine 1’s original catalog.  The user on machine 1 is also making collections, so if I just copied the catalog back from machine 2 when I was done, it would destroy the new collections on machine 1, so I think I want to just move the collection I create on machine 2.
