When I install MikTeX for multiusers I get a setupwiz options error (no details). The single user install works fine, but TexnicCemter does not accept C:UsersJohnAppDataLocalProgramsMiKTeX (or any other MikTeX folder I have found in APPData) as valid. I would prefer the multiuser version so I can keep the good packages separate for the POS packages I pick up from the LaTeX Stacl Exchange.

Just today after the latest update of MiKTeX (6/12/2022) on WIN10/TeXstudio platform, the arabtex package (seemingly included in that update) stopped working altogether.

Here’s a MWE:

documentclass[a4paper,10pt]{article}
usepackage{arabtex}
usepackage{utf8}
begin{document}
%
setcode{utf8}
Here is the word ``Arabic'' written in Arabic: <العربية>. You can also use the command verb|RL{arabic text}| like this: RL{العربية}.

Here is a section in Arabic. Computer:
%
begin{RLtext}
يشير إلى أي أداة بشرية تقوم بعملية الحسابات.
end{RLtext}
%
end{document}

which gives the message Process exited with error(s) upon local compiling, with no more details or messages that I could find.

The same code compiles just fine on Overleaf with the output:

enter image description here

where I guess the website has been delayed on today’s update.

Does the problem look specific to my installation (like being corrupted, etc.), or is it related to the update? And if so, where can the package maintainer be reached?

Thanks.

I have the same problem as described in issue 238 and I think the problem is not solved, even if the original issue is closed. I get the same error in the MVE.
Also, the console shows that the ngerman language is not installed.
ngerman

The dehyph-exptl package has an install tutorial which is not part of the readme but inside the package. This tutorial recommends adding new language for ngerman-x-latest but there is no «new» button in the language tab as described by this tutorial.

Can I debug this any further?

When the package pgf should be installed on macOS, the MikTeX package manager runs in some kind of infinite loop. As far as I have seen, there are several subdirectories in which package contents are installed (general, latex, etc.) It seems as if some files are only installed in some of them, but not in others. The package manager re-offers to to install these files again and again, but they are probably copied to the wrong directory. A real deadlock occurs if installing packages automatically without asking for permission is enabled, because the package manager gets stuck on at least one of the files from the pgf package.

The following example gives an error «Missing number, treated as zero» on MiKTeX 22.1, macOS 12.3.

documentclass{book}
usepackage[perpage]{footmisc}

Lorem ipsum.
end{document}
main.tex:5: Missing number, treated as zero.

texmfs/install/tex/latex/ednotes/perpage.sty Package: perpage 2006/07/15 1.12

I track the loaded package and find it loads the outdated version of perpage.sty 2006/07/15 from ednotes. This file should be 2014/10/25 2.0 from bigfoot.

    Hi everyone!
    I’m trying to convert my Jupiter Notebook’s code into a PDF file but I got the following error message and I got stuck here.
    First it asks to change «attachment keyword» in inserting images script. After fixing that it ran into following error which I thought may be due to inserting GIF into markdown, but after removing the script of inserting it, it again triggered the same error. However, LaTex works perfectly that it doesn’t generate any typo in my notebook, just getting error when trying to convert Jupyter Notebook’s file into PDF.

Here is the error that occurs:

  • I have read and acknowledged this HOWTO article:
    Submitting a MiKTeX problem report

Problem description

The Latin Modern package lm available in MiKTeX repository is of version v1.6, released 2009. It contains several incorrect declarations that — according to Stack Exchange user Ulrike Fischer — has been corrected in later releases.

An example of this incorrect declaration causing trouble is the apostrophe textquotesingle in ttfamily, using lighttt setting and slshape. The following document reproduces this error:

documentclass{article}

usepackage[lighttt]{lmodern}
usepackage[T1]{fontenc}

ttfamily
DeclareFontFamily{T1}{lmtt}{}
DeclareFontShape{T1}{lmtt}{m}{it}{
  <-> ssub * lmtt/m/sl
}{}

begin{document}

itshape texttt{textquotesingle}

end{document}

In this script, usepackage lines load lm with lighttt setting and fontenc with T1 encoding. ttfamily ... lmtt/m/sl}{} maps the italic light font to slshape. In the document body, itshape texttt{textquotesingle} attempts to produce an lmtt light slanted apostrophe '.
The error message given is

... No declaration for shape TS1/lmtt/l/sl.
sub@sfcnt ...e forspace shapespace mandatory@arg }
                                                  error@fontshape else MiKTeX/miktex#1{Fo...
l.14 itshape texttt{textquotesingle}

This error message was generated by an errmessage
command, so I can't give any explicit help.
Pretend that you're Hercule Poirot: Examine all clues,
and deduce the truth by order and method.

I shared this script with aforementioned Ulrike Fischer, who successfully compiled it with lm version 2015/05/01 v1.6.1.

Hi,

I keep getting the same error when I typeset any documents using hyperref.

! Package hyperref Error: Version mismatch!
(hyperref) * 2012/11/06 v6.83m: hyperref.sty
(hyperref) * 2022-02-21 v7.00n: hpdftex.def.

I have tried removing the hyperref package via the MiKTeX package manager and reinstalling it. I have also tried reinstalling it by running a file that calls for it but the error persists.

Is there any way to eliminate this error?

Thank you,

The MikTeX ieeetran package appears to only include IEEEtran.cls and is missing all the .bst files from https://www.ctan.org/tex-archive/macros/latex/contrib/IEEEtran/bibtex. AFAICS those files are not available in any MikTeX package.

Note that the .bib files IEEEfull.bib and IEEEabrv.bib should also be available in run-time, but aren’t.

Consequently

documentclass[british]{article}

}
end{filecontents}

begin{document}
Lorem cite{elk,moore}

bibliographystyle{IEEEtran}
bibliography{IEEEabrv,jobname}

won’t compile with working citations in MikTeX.

In TeX Live the files are present in the ieeetran package (https://www.tug.org/svn/texlive?view=revision&revision=59672).
