Minecraft error 137

I can play Minecraft for about 20 minutes before I get kicked out the game with the error code 137. I have 18G allocated to Minecraft and I get 80-120 fps while playing so I don’t think that’s the problem either. Help please! Also I am playing the modpack millenia 2.0 modpack.

Error code 137 usually means that your system has run out of memory and consequently killed the process using the most memory (in this case, Minecraft/Java) to save itself:

The exit code 137 then resolves to 128 + 9, whereas Signal 9 is SIGKILL, i.e. the process was forcefully killed. This can among others be a «kill -9 » command. However in your case this could be an out of memory condition on the operating system, which causes a functionality called «OOM Killer» to stop the process which is using up most of the memory in order to keep the OS itself stable even in such a condition.

In other words, you are allocating WAY to much memory, even for your system to handle, much less the JVM with good performance (generally, heaps larger than 4-8 GB significantly degrade garbage collection and overall performance and there can be a measurable difference even with smaller heaps).

Thank you for the suggestion but I tried allocating 6Gs and 8Gs and now the game is now incredibly laggy even with me adjusting the settings for maximum performance. I am also using a Chromebook if it helps.

Well, this is your problem then:

(maybe not entirely true, but Chromebooks were never designed for gaming, certainly not games as resource-hungry as Minecraft Java Edition, especially heavily modded. Other than that, lag can be caused by many other things than insufficient memory, such as the CPU (most likely) not being able to keep up, which is indicated in the logs you gave; only if memory usage keeps hitting 100% is memory likely the issue, otherwise, there is no benefit, and even downsides, to allocating more)
