The Network Setup Service service entered the stopped state.

The service is set to Manual (triggered) start up and is normally off.

I thought this service starts when network drivers are being installed or network configuration changes. Is this normal for it to be restarting every hour? How do I figure out why this service is starting?

On a similarly configured server we did see some network errors that correlated with this service starting. I’m trying to figure out how to troubleshoot this.

The NetSetupSvc service’s default startup type is «manual». That means it is ‘triggered’ to be started whenever an application needs it.

The Network Setup Service does a few things that are not needed continuously. Like the installation of network drivers, configuration of low-level network settings and/or updates. If this service is stopped, network driver installations that are in-progress are cancelled — and the other way round, a network driver update triggers it to be started.

It is pretty usual to see it starting and stopping somewhat often, depenting on what software is installed on your machine.

  • Hi everyone. I have a Windows server 2016 R2. Through the event viewer, 32,000 records associated with the Service Control Manager source are detected. The most repetitive messages are:

    1) The WinHTTP Web Proxy Automatic Detection Service service entered the «running» state.

    2) The WinHTTP Web Proxy Automatic Detection Service entered the «stopped» state.

    3) The Network Configuration Service entered the «running» state.

    4) The Network Configuration Service entered a «stopped» state.

    Points 3 and 4 are the most frequent. When viewing the log from December 2016 to today April 24, 2017, it means that for each month 6400 records are created for the same 4 previous points (stop and run). In a day are made around 213 records, meaning we could
    say that in one day the service stops 100 times and then another 100 times. It means that the service is not stable and for some reason is constantly being generated the fall and execution of the service constantly.

    What can I do to avoid frequent service drops?

    Would you please check on the problematic server to see if the if the startup type of WinHttpAutoProxySvc service is «manual» and the startup type of NetSetupSvc service is «manual (Trigger Start)»? If not, please change them back to
    the default. Please reboot the server and then monitor if the event ID 7036 will appears frequently.

Файл NetSetupSvc.dll.mui считается разновидностью DLL-файла.   • Не удается запустить Windows. Отсутствует требуемый компонент: NetSetupSvc.dll.mui. Повторите установку Windows.
  • Не удалось загрузить NetSetupSvc.dll.mui.
  • Не удалось запустить приложение, потому что не найден NetSetupSvc.dll.mui.
  • Файл NetSetupSvc.dll.mui отсутствует или поврежден.
  • Не удалось запустить это приложение, потому что не найден NetSetupSvc.dll.mui. Попробуйте переустановить программу, чтобы устранить эту проблему.

On a VM running Windows Server 2019 Standard, I see every hour the Network Setup Service (NetSetupSvc) starts and stops

The service is set to Manual (triggered) start up and is normally off.

I thought this service starts when network drivers are being installed or network configuration changes. Is this normal for it to be restarting every hour? How do I figure out why this service is starting?

On a similarly configured server we did see some network errors that correlated with this service starting. I’m trying to figure out how to troubleshoot this.

The NetSetupSvc service’s default startup type is «manual». That means it is ‘triggered’ to be started whenever an application needs it.

The Network Setup Service does a few things that are not needed continuously. Like the installation of network drivers, configuration of low-level network settings and/or updates. If this service is stopped, network driver installations that are in-progress are cancelled — and the other way round, a network driver update triggers it to be started.

It is pretty usual to see it starting and stopping somewhat often, depenting on what software is installed on your machine.

  • We have recently deployed a Windows Server 2019 on AWS. We are running IIS, with a WCF service. Connectivity to the service seems to be fine, however, in the Windows event log I’m seeing regular entries of the following :

    The Network Setup Service service entered the stopped state.

    The Network Setup Service service entered the running state.

  • I’ve updated my question, something I should of added initially but this Windows 2019 server has been deployed on AWS.

  • Regardless, I’d still try the clean boot, or better yet if you think the image is problematic, ask amazon to stand up a new one for testing, verify the issue isn’t present before installing the WCF / IIS configuration.

  • I’ve gone back over the event log from when the instance was first launched and these event entries were not present.  So these entries are as a result of one of the following

    • Installing  WCF / IIS configuration
    • Changed the NIC from DHCP to have two static IP addresses
    • Installed all of the pending Windows Updates. 
    • Disabled TLS 1.0 and make further changes to ensure that the server passed a PCI Compliance  vulnerability scan
