                    I have been having an issue installing SQL Server Management Studio 2017, any version of it.  The install has consistently failed for the same issue, a Fatal

                    From what I can tell is that Visual Studio Tools for Applications 2015 Language Support will not install.  I have done multiple repairs to the VSTA 2015 Language
    Support.  I have even done repairs to SQL Server Management Studio 2016.  This has been run as Administrator, and by an Administrator on the Administrator account.  Any thoughts on how to get SSMS 2017 past the VSTA_LS.exe failure?

       Good day, I no longer have the information you are looking for.  Prior to my vacation, a refresh was done on the computer, due to multiple issues with email, SQL, web browsing.  SQL Server Management Studio 2017 was able to install
    correctly, though I am seeing minor issues with it seeing the 64-bit servers that are installed.

I am installing the Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio (17.2).

It was installed before, but I re-install it because I forgot the admin password (shouldn’t do this actually).

However, the re-installation is not successful. The same error message occurs:

fatal error during installation (0x80070643)
SQL Server MAnagement Studio: A valid destination folder for the install could not be determined

I’ve found one solution here

But it didn’t work on my machine. I even couldn’t find the BootstrapDir.

Any ideas what I might look for to solve this problem?

Jumping ahead to 2020, this problem resurfaced for me while installing SSMS version 18. After many other suggestions did not fix the issue, I found that updating the version of Visual Studio Installer (VS 2019) to current version solved the issue. Since this error code shows up in many different install scenarios, but many different MS products also now share pieces with VS, I hope this might help someone else get to a solution faster.

I had the same problem and I «resolved» it by installing SSMS 16.5.3, which was successful. I then was able to install SSMS 17.2 without issue. After 17.2 is installed, 16.5.3 can be uninstalled.

Simply make sure the bellow path is already created and exists on the designated machine!

3 steps to fix SSMS installation error 0x80070643: (1) Uninstall ODBC Driver 17; (2) Restart the machine; (3) Rerun the installer

ODBC Driver 17 Prevents SSMS Install

TL;DR: Follow these steps to fix the above error message:

  1. Uninstall Microsoft ODBC Driver 17 for SQL Server
  2. Restart the machine
  3. Rerun SSMS-Setup-ENU.exe

Several weeks ago, I got stuck in a «reboot required» loop when trying to install SQL Server.  Today, I finally got around to installing SQL Server Management Studio on that same machine.  I received a different error message, but with the same root cause (and solution).

To help the search engines out, here’s the text from the above error message:

Setup Failed

Fatal error during installation (0x80070643)

Microsoft ODBC Driver 17 for SQL Server: A previous installation required a reboot of the machine for changes to take effect. To proceed, restart your computer and then run Setup again.

Just as before, restarting the computer as suggested in the error message was no use.  The SSMS install kept failing with the same error message.

Will this fix work for you?

Open Apps & Features from the Windows 10 Settings app.  Search for the text «SQL«.  If you have ODBC Driver 17 for SQL Server in your list of applications, there’s a good chance this is the source of your problem.  

There’s obviously some sort of issue with the way the ODBC Driver 17 for SQL Server installs itself, because this is the second time a related installation has failed simply because this driver was already installed.

No need to re-install the ODBC driver

The SSMS 18.6 install includes the ODBC Driver 17 as part of its installation package, so after uninstalling the driver and installing SSMS, I did not have to go back and manually re-install the ODBC driver.  Here are the before and after screenshots of my «SQL» Apps & Features.

One thing I did notice is that following the SSMS install, the ODBC Driver 17 version had increased from version 17.4.0.1 to 17.5.1.1.  Perhaps that has something to do with the failed install?

                    From what I can tell is that Visual Studio Tools for Applications 2015 Language Support will not install.  I have done multiple repairs to the VSTA 2015 Language
    Support.  I have even done repairs to SQL Server Management Studio 2016.  This has been run as Administrator, and by an Administrator on the Administrator account.  Any thoughts on how to get SSMS 2017 past the VSTA_LS.exe failure?

       Good day, I no longer have the information you are looking for.  Prior to my vacation, a refresh was done on the computer, due to multiple issues with email, SQL, web browsing.  SQL Server Management Studio 2017 was able to install
    correctly, though I am seeing minor issues with it seeing the 64-bit servers that are installed.

🔥 В данной статье я расскажу из-за чего случается неисправимая ошибка 0x80070643  ✅ которая происходит в процессе установки программного обеспечения на windows 10

✅Сегодня в процессе установки Microsoft SQL Management Studio практически сразу вылетела ошибка:

⭐️Сбой установки В процессе установки произошла неисправимая ошибка (0x80070643)

🔥 Для исправления данной ошибки как написано на сайте микрософта необходимо запустить проверку диска командой chkdsk

  1. Открываем командную строку от Администратора
  2. Вводим команду chkdsk c: /f /r
  3. ⭐️ т.к. это системный диск он может запустить проверку только после перезагрузки с чем мы и соглашаемся
    как я исправил ошибку (0x80070643)
  4. перезагружаем компьютер и ждем пока пройдет проверка диска, у меня это заняло порядка 30 минут
  5. запускаем установку и вуаля) все работает!
    0x80070643 в процессе установки произошла неисправимая ошибка

The installer takes many minutes to arrive at this point, but fails with the same result each time.

We have restarted the server in between each attempt, and have run on the latest Windows Updates. We have .NET Framework 4.5.2 installed on the server. All attempts have been made using accounts with full admin permissions on the server.

Can anyone please advise how we can get this installed successfully?
