    user is that it’s actually the Autorun handler (enabling Autorun on my own Win7 box causes the same process to be spawned).

    If you don’t want to see it, go into the control panel and disable Autorun. Otherwise, it needs to run for Autorun to work properly.

Sometimes when you run some scripts to tweak the default functionalities of Windows, you might face the DCOM errors with error code 10001.

This error code has several variations like:

How to Fix the ‘DCOM Config Error 10001′(title image)

What is DCOM?

DCOM (Distributed Component Object Model) is a service that allows computers to run programs on the network as if they’re running locally. As you can see, this is a sensitive service because it is closely related to the proper working of the Windows operating system. Hence, we don’t recommend tweaking the permissions and settings of DCOM in any condition.

Still, if you want to tweak the permissions of DCOM to resolve a particular or 10001 error code, then you should understand the reason for that error code first.

When Does the DCOM Error 10001 Occur?

This error code mostly occurs:

  • When you execute some scripts to disable Cortana or the software keyboard in Windows 10. That is why people also call it the 10001 windows 10 error.
  • After installing a fresh copy of Windows in some cases.
  • When updating Windows applications like the Windows store.

Pre-requisite

Before we move on to tweaking your registries, you should first check whether your local Antivirus isn’t conflicting or quarantining the application files through which you are encountering the error message.

In this series of steps, we will demonstrate how to resolve the error message w.r.t the InputService. This is one of the use-cases and you can freely replace it with the other application you are having the error with.

  1. First, disable the startup of ‘InputService‘ (or any other app if you’re solving some other error code with DCOM).
  2. Now, open the ‘Component Services’ console from the Start menu.

Copying the ‘App ID’ from ‘Component Services’

  1. In the new window, expand the ‘Component Services,’ then ‘Computers.’
  2. Now, expand the ‘My Computer’ and then, ‘DCOM Config.’
    Expanding ‘Component Services’ < ‘Computers’ < ‘My Computer’ < ‘DCOM Config’ in the ‘Component Services’ console
  3. Right-click on the service you need to change inside DCOM Config and choose the ‘Properties’ option.
  4. Now, jot down the ‘Application Name’ and ‘Application ID’ in the properties window of that particular service.

Note: Copy the ‘Application ID’ here because we will need it later on

Changing the Permissions of that Particular ‘App ID’ in ‘Registry Editor’

Note: Modifying the permissions of a particular service can break some functionalities in Windows so make sure you follow the steps correctly.

  1. After that, minimize the opened windows and go to the ‘Registry Editor.’
    Typing the ‘regedit’ to open the ‘Registry Editor’
    Confirming ‘Yes’ to open the ‘Registry Editor’

  2. Click on the ‘HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT’ folder inside the ‘Computer’ section and paste the copied (jotted down) ‘App ID’ after ‘ComputerHKEY_CLASSES_ROOT.’
  3. Hitting the ‘Enter’ key will take you to that particular key in the registry editor.

  4. Now, right-click on the folder that has the same ‘App ID’ and choose the ‘Permissions’ option.

  6. Now, you will notice that the Owner/account type is ‘TrustedInstaller.’ So, click on the ‘Change’ option to change the ownership.

  7. Then, change the ownership to the ‘Local Administrator group’ or some applicable owner and click on ‘Apply’ to save the new changes.
  8. After that, click on the ‘OK’ button to close this window.
  9. Now, choose the ‘Local Administrators group’ under the ‘Security’ tab of the ‘Permissions…’ window.
  10. Then, check the ‘Allow’ box for ‘Full Control’ in the ‘Permissions for Administrators’ section in the same window.
  11. After that, click ‘Apply’ to save the changes.

  12. Now, close the ‘Component Services’ console and everything else.
  13. After that, reopen the ‘Component Services’ console and try to change the ‘Launch and Activation Permissions’ from the ‘Security’ tab of the applications’ properties.

Note: You need to deny all the permissions for ‘InputService’ to resolve the DCOM error 10001

Conclusion

This procedure is dangerous for your operating system because it can break your Windows and you may need to reinstall the Windows. So, we don’t recommend trying this solution at all because it is better to play safe. Still, if you want to tweak the permissions of ‘DCOM Config,‘ this procedure is the only one that has worked for others.

If you don’t want to see it, go into the control panel and disable Autorun. Otherwise, it needs to run for Autorun to work properly.

Разрешения на папку F:WindowsApps.
И убедиться, что Microsoft.SunriseBaseGame_1.274.237.2_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe наследует их.

    Iv tried refresh and reinstall, the dcom error still occurs.

    the only GPO i have that changes security memberships is for the administrator group were i remove all member except administrator and nt auth.

    i also get application log erros 5973 regarding activation of app store.

    what i did was the following:

    Install windows 8

    Run windows 8 update several times to insure no new updates were missing.

    Joined domain

    Tested 10 user logins were working as intended.

    Install Mcafee end point (Run as administrator and not some one in the administrator group).

    Now things appear to be working just fine.

    If mcafee wasnt run as administrator windows 8 would only work as intended for the original user who ran the installation.

I have a fairly new remote desktop server that has developed some nasty issues. Server 2019.

the left mouse button will not open the start menu, but the right mouse button has function. the «Type here to Search» field will not accept text. if I select Search by right clicking the Windows start button, nothing happens. Users started complaining about performance and stability. the system event viewer is choking on DistributedCom errors, Event ID 10001, apparently when users sign in.

    I think I found the answer.  Someone else asked this question on the sysadmin sub-reddit and liquidkristal on the thread posted a solution.

    Essentially, this issue is due to a bunch of firewall rules registry keys that get created during the login process that don’t get removed.  I remember reading about this issue with the firewall rules registry entries in other places, but didn’t realize it would affect the server like this.

    I ran the three suggested registry updates on my server having this issue and the problem went away (just required a logoff and log back in, no reboot required):

    reg delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesSharedAccessParametersFirewallPolicyFirewallRules /va /f                      
    reg delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesSharedAccessParametersFirewallPolicyRestrictedServicesConfigurableSystem /va /f            
    reg delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesSharedAccessParametersFirewallPolicyRestrictedServicesAppIsoFirewallRules /va /f
