I simply wanted to play during the Welcome Back Weekend, to experience the game again from a Shadows of Angmar point of view, but it seems everything is conspiring against it.
With my most recent install I can enter the game without any problem, but shortly after entering and going about my business I’ll be thrown back to my desktop and asked to send a report to microsoft. Again and again…
Among several errors I’ve received, the most common error beginning with my first install is: Game Error [205] The game client was passed invalid command-line parameters. [205]
Lotroclient log:

Hmm. My patches folder is empty, not even a crumb, this doesn’t seem.. right … but I’m not being prompted to download anything.

Navigate to your Turbine/The Lord of the Rings Online folder, and launch the game from TurbineInvoker.exe
If that works for you, create a shortcut to that file.
Edit to add: I just reread your post. It seems as if the error you described here has been fixed as you can now get INTO the game. Please post the error you get when you are in game and it dumps you out.

Tried it several times. It’ll crash shortly after entering the game… just sooner.
Edit to your edit: Yes I can get in game, 2.. 3.. 7… 15… minutes later I’ll crash to the desktop

Post the error code you are getting when it crashes after entering the game.

Okay, crashed again.
When it crashes I don’t get a typical error could one might imagine, just the typical; xxx (in this case, lotroclient) has encountered a problem and need to close, we are sorry for the inconvenience. Would you like to send a copy of this report to microsoft?

yes, error 205 will always happen when trying to directly access lotroclient.exe.
TurbineLauncher.exe or TurbineInvoker.exe has to be the process that calls up lotroclient.exe for it to work.
The game crashing after logging in is another problem.
When it crashes there should be a link or button you can press for more information. It should give you an idea of whats going on.
Also just after a crash, you should be able to go to Documents/The Lord of the Rings Online and find a txt file called lotroclient which is a log, the last entry might tell us what caused the crash. Then we can work from there.

Go to Control Panel, user accounts, create a new admin account. Log into that and try launching the game. Let me know if that works.

You had to ask me that question, what does it mean? I can’t give you an answer.
I had a very similar problem when I was running XP. The only GOOD fix I found was upgrading to Win7 (that crash has not happened since)
If you don’t want to, or can’t upgrade windows, the best I can tell you is what I did to make it work, when it would happen.
First, delete userpreferences.ini and start the launcher, click the Down Arrow at the top to find the Options menu, find the repair check box and check it. Log into the game.
If it doesn’t crash again, great. If it does, repeat same process over and over again until it lets you in.
After 3-4 tries if it seemed hopeless the only thing I could do would be create another windows user account and play on that until it started crashing again.
Unfortunately I never found an answer to it.

Well at least it appears I can play on a secondary user account.

For me, when I’d make a new user account I’d go a month or two with no problems at all. Then I’d get the error every once in a while and it’d gradually get to where it would happen every login, then to the point where deleting the .ini and running a repair would do no good.
I can’t explain it.
Anyway — glad you’re able to get some game time in!

I’ve read an explanation of this from one of the mods, but I’m sure that post has been purged already. If I recall correctly, it’s most likely due to a corruption or bad data in the registry.

Bah! Yeah, I’m not about to reformat nor feel like upgrading.
Now the client is glitching itself into a seizure and crashing on the secondary user account! I’m taking all this **** as a universal sign that I should not play.

So upon waking up this morning I decided to give this one last attempt… I,
Unistalled LotRO
Cleaned registry of all LotRO instances
Used CCleaner to repair/remove around 1000 unused and/or broken files within my registry
Scanned for all viruses & malware, just to be sure
Restarted my computer
Installed the high res client
Restarted my computer againIt worked! … Nooo no, it crashed, and crashed… and crashed. Forgive me for being cynical, and I hope nobody else experiences this preposterous issue.

ok this is weird, ive been doing every solution on the forums since last week with no good results! every time i try to launch the game nothing happens, i never had any problems with the game in 3 years,the game just dosent start, i have the same error in the lotroclient (0000000 00 invalid command line……)SOMETHING is *****here cause when you check the forums theres about 15 or so treads related to this big problem! The last update ****** something real bad,by the way ppl are paying for this game!pls help a bit more lotro admin!Just venting a bit here.

Заканчивается обнова, клиент закрывается. Я снова запускаю его, вылезает ошибка: Could not patch file «lotroclient.exe», error 5: отказано в доступе. Сразу говорю, от имени администратора запускал. Добавлено через 7 минут Пробовал же запустить сам lotroclient, выдал следующее: Ошибка [205]

Между прочим, проблему с бьющимися экранами также помогают решить vpn-программы, с помощью которых мы всякие закрытые роскомнадзором странички смотрим. Только что обновился с Hotspot Shield — полет нормальный.

Помогите После переустановки винды переустановил клиент.После запуска игры ввожу логин и пароль когда появляеться сервера выбираю тот на котором у меня персонаж нажимаю кнопку играть и далее окно закрывается (сворачивается) и далее нечего не происходит.

Помогите! При обновлении 1 из 3 файлов обновился, на втором возникла проблема. Либо выдает: «Ошибка…..80043017» и начинает заново. Или после 5% полоса состояния загрузки резко становиться 100%, появляеться надпись «загрузка завершена» и по новому начало загрузки. После ввода логина и пароля просит указать файл: Полная переустановка VC 2010 не помогла. В файле PatchClient.log следующее: Отключал анивирус/фаервол, сносил VC , переустанавливал, перезагружал, запускаю от имени администратора, в опциях лаунчера поставил без прокси, ничего не поменялось. Возможно поможет полная переустановка клиента? Или проблема у меня в системе? Спасибо.

If you receive this error message, try to open my file client (or dndclient.exe lotroclient.exe) without Login To connect, you must launch the game from «TurbineLauncher.exe» on Windows XP or «TurbineInvoker.exe» on Vista and Windows 7.
Additional Notes: Shortcuts to these files should be created automatically for each game on the Windows «desktop» or «Start Menu» under «All Programs»> «Turbine» Windows XP or Vista / Windows 7 in the «Games» panel accessible via their menu «Start» respectively
Solution
But if you want you can manually perform a desktop «shortcut» to the games by following these steps:
Click the Windows «Start» and select «Computer» (XP) or «Computer» (Vista / 7) in the list
In and double-click your C: drive (may display as «Local Disk C»)
Double-click the «Program Files» (Note: if you see «Program Files (x86)» double-click on that one instead)
In this folder, double-click the «Turbine» folder
Users must DDO then double-click the «Dungeons & Dragons Online» folder (Note: New installs might have «DDO Unlimited» instead)
LOTRO users should double-click the «Lord of the Rings Online» folder
In this case, the Windows XP users should seek «TurbineLauncher» (it will be said that as an «application» and will be «one-ring» Lord of the Rings Online, or red «shield» icon DDO), or Windows Vista / 7 should find «TurbineInvoker» (again its the one listed as an application that is a «one-ring» icon or the red «shield» icon) *.
(* Note: You can see «TurbineInvoker.exe» and «TurbineLauncher.exe», but those will list «configuration» files and the default value will be «empty» Windows icon because they are in fact the «TurbineLauncher.exe.config» and «TurbineInvoker.exe.config» from «hide file extensions» Windows in its default mode.)
Once you have located the appropriate file that you want to right click on it and choose the options in the right-click menu that comes up: «Send To»> «Desktop (create shortcut)» which will create a shortcut on the desktop to start the game.
(Additional notes: If you continue to receive the error message 205, please also make sure that your computer meets the system requirements for LOTRO or DDO compatibility issues with the game and a system that not meet these requirements can sometimes cause this message. occur as well.)
In some rare occasions the 205 error can also occur (often at launch, but sometimes just before or after a «crash to the desktop») because the system has a «controller» device or device driver linked in charge «DirectInput» in DirectX believes that the game is a controller supported (eg, a mouse or joystick, etc).
These are often either a non-type device that the system controller (via DirectX) is responsible for conducting and DirectX configuration error as «DirectInput» device that transmits the commands that the game can not interpret (generation of 205 «- invalid command-line parameters» message). In some cases, this may be a control non-standard like a joystick or keyboard / mouse (or keyboard / mouse «add-on» device as an external keypad for a laptop).
In some cases, the device or the driver is not even technically what you would consider a «controller» device or unusual DirectX is not quite «know» what to do with, as a remote control or similar device (at least one case this was caused by a «fan speed» controller mounted in a drive-bay on the system that had a knob to adjust the fan speed measurement systems that dial the game has been moved a given error 205). Other causes of this problem were «ghosts» USB device drivers that the system does not «unload» when the unit was moved to a different USB port or offline.
If you run a test by unplugging all non-essential USB devices (eg everything except the keyboard / mouse) and restart the system, but still the error 205 game is launched or during / after a crash try the following steps:
Click the Start menu, then right click on the icon «My Computer» (or computer) and choose Properties
Click the «Device Manager» option link on the left or select «Hardware» (tab), then click on «Device Manager» (button)
Right-click on the first item in the list (should be your computer «name») and select «Search for hardware changes»
Allow Windows to run this scan (after all the dialog boxes that are able to find) and once it finishes close Device Manager
At this point, restart the PC case, and after rebooting relaunch the game to test
