It’s as simple as flipping a switch!
We purchased a 22KW Home Standby Generator from Generac a few years ago, and it remains one of the best investments we’ve made in our house. With three young children in an area that is prone to losing power, keeping all the lights on and devices powered 24/7 is essential!
One day – about a year after being installed and running smoothly with no issues – our generator shut down and gave a 2800 error code. If this happens to you, there is nothing wrong with your generator and no need to get it serviced! All that happened is one of the auxiliary shutdown switches was accidentally flipped to the off position.
Here I’ll show you what triggers the Error Code 2800 and how to fix it so you can get your generator up and running again!

What Error Code 2800 Looks Like in the Mobile Link App
I was first alerted to the fact that the generator was no longer running via Generac’s Mobile Link app. After opening the app, I saw the following error message:
If you click on the Status History page of the app, you’ll see additional error messages and that the generator was shut down due to an alarm:

Heading outside to inspect the generator, I saw that the red “Alarm” light was on:
If you open your generator, the control panel interface will cycle between two error messages. The first indicates that the generator has stopped due to an alarm from Error Code 2800:
The second error message indicates that the generator has stopped due to the Auxiliary Shutdown Switch:
Reading these error messages (particularly since the Mobile Link app indicates that the generator needs to be serviced), you might think that something seriously wrong has happened to your generator. Rest assured, your generator is fine! Here’s how to fix Error Code 2800.
Step 1: Locate the Auxiliary Shutdown Switch on the back of the generator
Error Code 2800 is caused by flipping the Auxiliary Shutdown Switch (which probably happened accidentally). All models of Generac generators have an Auxiliary Shutdown Switch on the exterior of the generator. Our model’s Auxiliary Shutdown Switch is located on the back of the generator, in the top-left corner:
The generator will not start if the Auxiliary Shutdown Switch is OPEN (O symbol), and will instead activate an “Auxiliary Shutdown” alarm. So, the generator won’t run and will trigger error code E2800 if the O symbol of the Auxiliary Shutdown Switch is pressed down.
In the below picture, I have zoomed in on the Auxiliary Shutdown Switch in the OPEN (O symbol) position so you can see it more clearly:
Most commonly, the Auxiliary Shutdown Switch on the back of the generator is the culprit behind Error Code 2800. And sure enough, somehow this switch had accidentally been pressed on our generator!
Step 2: Set the Auxiliary Shutdown Switch to the CLOSED (| symbol) position
To fix error code 2800, simply set the Auxiliary Shutdown Switch to the CLOSED (I symbol) position by pressing down the CLOSED (| symbol) side of the switch:
Step 3: If applicable, check the Auxiliary Shutdown Switch on the inside of the generator
Generac generators that are 16 kW or greater have a secondary Auxiliary Shutdown Switch located inside the generator – right by the control panel interface. I’ve highlighted this additional switch in the below picture as an FYI:
It is highly unlikely that this interior Auxiliary Shutdown Switch would have been accidentally flipped since it located under the lid of the generator (and hopefully you lock the lid of your generator too!). Still, it never hurts to check this switch too.
Step 4: Clear the Error Code from the Control Panel
After ensuring that one or both Auxiliary Shutdown Switches are pressed down to the CLOSED (| symbol) position, the control panel interface will prompt you to clear the alarm/error with the following message:
It’s as simple as the message indicates! Simply press the red “OFF” button on the control panel, then press the gray “ENTER” button.
Finally, press the green “AUTO” button to set the generator in fully automatic system operation (allows the generator to automatically start and exercises the generator according to the exercise timer).

(Optional) Step 5: Run the generator in Manual mode
While you’re technically done and the problem has been solved, I like to run the generator in Manual mode for a minute or two. Especially if the generator has not been running or following its exercise schedule for a little while, it’s always good to make sure it cranks and starts up.
Simply press the blue MANUAL button, and the generator should crank up and run. The control panel will indicate it is in Manual operation with a blue LED light:
Assuming the generator starts up fine, let it run for a minute or two.
(Optional) Step 6: Return the generator to Auto operation
Whenever you’re ready, you can place the generator back into fully automatic system operation by pressing the green “AUTO” button. The generator will stop running and the control panel will look like this again:
How to Prevent Error Code 2800
Children using the generator for a game of hide-and-seek might brush up against and flip the Auxiliary Shutdown Switch. Or a bouncing ball might accidentally flip the switch. In our case, a leaf blower accidentally aimed too high was enough to flip the Auxiliary Shutdown Switch!
I’ll be honest, I was quite surprised by how easily the exterior Auxiliary Shutdown Switch can be flipped. I hope that future models of Generac generators either require more pressure and force to flip this switch, or have an enclosure around the switch to prevent accidental presses.
Until then, there’s little that can be done to prevent this error from happening. Knowledge is your best bet here. Just be aware of anything going on around your generator and know that the Auxiliary Shutdown Switch can be easily flipped.
What if the Auxiliary Shutdown Switch is in the CLOSED (| symbol) Position?
If the Auxiliary Shutdown Switch is already in the CLOSED (| symbol) position, then the switch is either faulty or the wiring to the switch is faulty. In this case, you’ll need to call a professional to get the generator serviced.
More Information on the Auxiliary Shutdown Switch
According to the owner’s manual, all Generac generators are equipped with an external means of shutting down the generator via an auxiliary shutdown switch. This switch is located on the exterior of the generator back panel, and shuts down the generator and disables restarts:
Generac generators that are 16 kW or greater have a secondary Auxiliary Shutdown Switch located inside the generator – right by the control panel interface:
If an auxiliary shutdown switch is activated, the control panel interface displays an “Auxiliary Shutdown” alarm and the red LED “Alarm” light illuminates. The generator will not start if either switch is OPEN (O).
To clear this condition, set the switch or switches to CLOSED (I).
Clear the alarm by pressing the OFF mode button, and then ENTER. The generator can then be placed back in AUTO or MANUAL mode.

I’m being flooded with questions about the 2800 shutdown fault code for Air Cooled Generac generators… This code is VERY simple to fix. The new Generac WiFi products that are shipping come standard with the Aux Shutdown kits installed. The 15kW are larger units have 2 switches, while 14kW and lower use just 1 switch. The switches are located one on the very back of the unit just below the roof line near the electrical connections and the other is located INSIDE the generator on the black firewall panel in the upper right corner. These MUST BOTH be on for the unit to run. If either or both are turned off, the unit will show that alarm and not run. If either switch is turned off during the unit actually running, it will shut down. These are for emergency personnel in case there is a problem where the unit must be safely and quickly shutdown. There is a section in the owner’s manual that will explain all about them as well.

Is there any other reason for the 2800 code besides those two switches or one of them being off? Both switches were on I shut them both off turned them back on then cleared the code and it went back into automatic.

Basically, if any part of that series circuit is broken, whether by a switch or loose wire or some other issue, the 2800 alarm fault will show up for the Auxiliary Shutdown.
It may have been that a switch was partially in ‘Off’ or maybe that it had a strange spot on the contacts inside. I’d just keep an eye on it. They really have no need to ever be turned off again.

What Causes the error code 2800 on the Generator?
The error code 2800 usually shows up during an auxiliary shutdown because the auxiliary shutdown switch is physically damaged, a loose wire or any part of the series circuit is broken; it is also possible somebody has, by mistake, pressed the auxiliary shutdown button.

How to fix the error code 2800 on the Generator?
The Generac generators have two auxiliary shutdown switches, which have to be On and then you have to clear the error from the control panel of the generator to let your generator run and stop showing the error code 2800.
Step 1: Locate the auxiliary shutdown switches and switch them On
There are two auxiliary shutdown switches that look like small toggle buttons. One is located on the back of the generator, and the other is inside the lid of the generator on the right side of the engine compartment. After locating both the auxiliary shutdown switches, switch them to On.
Step 2: Clear the error code from the generator control panel
When any error occurs, it is shown on the control panel interface of the generator, and to remove it, locate the Auto/Manual/Off buttons on the right side of the unit. Press the Off button after that, press the Enter button and then finally press the Auto button to run the generator in fully automatic system operation.

Всем добрый день. Купил газовый генератор Generac 6271 на 13 кВт. АВР покупать не стал по причине того что буду делать сам под свои «хотелки». Привез, установил, подключил — все работает нормально, только возникла одна проблема. При подключении к клеммам Т1 и Т2 напряжения 220 вольт пишется ошибка «Wiring error 2099». В инструкции указано, что это клеммы для подачи питания зарядного устройства АКБ. Пока напряжение не снимешь с Т1 (фазу) – есть ошибка и гена не запускается, ни в ручном режиме, ни в автоматическом. Как только фазу отключаешь – ошибка позволяет себя сбросить и все заводится, работает как часы. Но через какое-то время АКБ начинает разряжаться и появляется сообщение «Lowbattery» или что-то наподобие… Позвонил дистрибьютору, пообщался с техническим директором – он твердит одно – «покупайте автоматику RTSI 100M3 за 26 рублей и все заработать должно». Что такого волшебного автоматика подаст на клеммы Т1 и Т2 заставив исчезнуть ошибку непонятно, да и он ничего не смог сказать… Картинку из мануала и фото того как подключил, прикладываю.

Здравствуйте. В принципе вроде все правильно подключили. В прежних моделях генератора панель была немного другая, но смысл не меняется, N1-N2 -контроль города, Т1-Т2 -заряд АКБ. В некоторых моделях зарядка не монтировалась в сам контроллер и была выносная в виде БП типа как для ноутбуков.
В Вашем случае, если возникает конфликт при подключении Т1 (заряд акб), есть 2 выхода:
1) подключить контроль сети и заряд АКБ параллельно, такое подключение сделано на больших генераторах (QT22-27)
2) Вместо штатного БП приспособить внешнее, то есть, БП отрегулировать на 13.6 и напрямую подкинуть на АКБ, на всякий случай предусмотреть предохранители.И еще… Почему у вас провода управления, если это они, подключены к клеммам alarm? Управление реле осуществляется по проводам +12 В и transfer, то есть, контроллер управляет 12 В реле, которое в свою очередь управляет контакторами город/генератор. Для более правильного алгоритма работы рекомендую установить РКН (реле контроля напряжения) и реле времени, которое будет давать задержку на подключение контакторов города и генератора.

Кстати, небольшой совет по установке генератора на местности. самый простой и не затратный метод это сделать небольшую площадку из поребриков-бардюрчиков метр на полтора, засыпать щебнем мелкой фракции и все, площадка готова. Бордюрчики стандартные 500*200, углубляете в землю на 100 мм и оставляете над поверхностью 100 мм. В тоге у Вас генератор будет над основной поверхностью, дождик будет спокойно уходить в землю.

Сейчас мануала нет под рукой, но по памяти скажу, что эти проводочки, что Вы подключили, предназначены для ОТКЛЮЧЕНИЯ левых нагрузок, в штатном АВР предназначены для этого несколько релюшек, и то они шли только в первых поставках, потом с целью удешевить хоть на чем-то (один черт их никто не подключал) по договоренности с импортером их (доп.релюхи) перестали комплектовать…
Теперь по Вашим хотелкам. Приходилось уже «обманывать» контроллер генератора. Делалось все довольно просто, на клеммы Т1-Т2 подавал напряжение от ИБП. Если Бесперебойник оснащен контактом для управления генератора при просадке АКБ-то использовал этот контакт, если такового контакта не предусмотрено то ставил реле контроля напряжения АКБ, на котором выставлял нижний порого напряжения примерно 11,3-11-5 В на банку по (большинство ИБП отключаются при 10.5 В), при котором происходит запуск генератора. Верхний порог заряда 12.5-12.7 В, при достижении которого происходит остановка генератора.
И еще раз, по проводочкам которыми управляЮтся контакторы: +12 В и transfer, при наличии сетевого напряжения на выходе ничего нет, при работе генератора (запуск-прогрев 10 сек) на выходе появляется 12 В. В АВР стоит реле 12 В, которое переключает контакторы.
Скорее всего конфликт возникает именно из-за этих проводов, которые вы подключили не туда.
Вот фото АВР Generac прежних генераторов, сейчас они немного другие, с какой-то электронной начинкой, но принцип остался прежний…ПЫ. СЫ… Перечитал все что Вы написали в первом посте и нашел Ваш, извините за жаргон, косяк… Как и говорил прежде, ошибка в подключении проводочков. Поробуйте отключить провода 209-210, эти провода для управления второстепенной нагрузкой, на них контроллер генератора подает или убирает 12 В для управления второстепенной нагрузкой. Вы же, насколько я понимаю, наоборот, подаете на них напряжение из вне… Сорри за много букав)

PS-2. Генератор можно управлять дистанционно тольок подключив дополнительный блок, который подключается к контроллеру, иначе никак. Стоимость блока что-то около 500-600 уев была…

Попробую поподробней, а то прям недопонимание какое-то)
1. Контакты +12 В и transfer я не использую и провода к ним не подключал. Для моего АВР ни 12 вольт, ни сигнал от генератора на включение реле не нужны…
2. Контакты 209-210 — это нормально разомкнутый «сухой» контакт встроенного в гену реле. Оно срабатывает в случае «аварии». Например, если после всех отведенных «мозгами» попыток запуска ни одна не увенчалась успехом. Провода я к ним подключил для того чтобы в случае аварии приходила смска. В данный момент они (провода, вторым концом) НИКУДА не подключены. Тихо-мирно дожидаются подключения к «Кситалу» какому-нибудь.

я НЕ ПОДАЮ напряжения. НИКАКОГО.Это не так. Генератор дистанционно управляется подачей или снятием напряжения с контактов N1 и N2 (контроль «города»). Разумеется когда включен автоматический режим. Проблема возникает только при попытке обеспечить заряд АКБ подачей 220 вольт на контакты Т1 и Т2…

У нас возникла проблема с контроллером генератора. Вместо меню отображаются одни стрелки. Снятием питания ничего не решается. При включении контроллер нормально предлагает выбрать дату, а дальше что куда в меню- непонятно.

Приветствую. У меня генератора работал нормально, сегодня загорелся рыжий индикатор, пишет, что нет зарядки аккум, хотя по факту заряд идет. Как снять ошибку? Питание отключал, снимал аккум и вынимал предохранитель. Может кто сталктвался

Он у меня и так в таком состоянии, рыжий индикатор горит. Зарядка запитана от выходных клемм (после генератора и сети в щите) и ноль и фаза на автоматах. Общий ноль повторно заземлен, одна из фаз гены заземлена, т. е. превращена в ноль. Когда отключаю автомат с нулем (зарядки гены) ошибка пропадает

Сегодня пробовал провода T1 и T2 менять местами, ошибка пропадает, но, когда реально пропадает заряд, то ошибки нет. В нормальном положении проводов заряд идет и горит ошибка.

Я бы посоветовал не на контакторах делать. Они имеют свойство залипать. Себе сделал моторизованный рубильник. Тех поддержка рекомендует заземлять отдельно корпус гены, там сзади есть спец язычок (это молниезащита, что бы при ударе панель не выгорела) и размыкать ноль сети и гены (что бы каждый источник от своего нуля питался)
