There could be various reasons why this is happening. The most common ones:
1. Add-ins or security programs conflicts — disable AVG/Firewall, run Outlook with the command-line «Outlook.exe /safe» to check if it still crashs.
2. Corrupted email profile — Create a new Outlook profile to test.
3. Damaged Office programs file — Repair and reinstall Office 2013.

As you probably know Office 2016 has been released for a while, and many Windows 10 users have switched to it.
Although Office 2016 seems great, users have reported that Outlook 2016 crashes when launched, so today we’re going to see if there’s a way to fix this problem.
When launching Outlook 2016 you might receive an AppVIsvSubsystems32.dll error followed by the crash of your email client, and this can be quite frustrating if you need to check your email.
Others describe that their Outlook 2016 crashes when opening – Event ID 1000. In one case or another, there are a few solutions that might help you.
What can I do if Outlook 2016 crashes on launch?
1. Temporarily switch to a different email client
If you can’t fix the problem with Outlook, but you need to check your email, you might want to temporarily try out a different email client.
Alternative email clients can help you keep all your emails in one place, regardless of your email provider or the number of accounts.
Good email clients implement additional features that help you keep your inbox organized. They can help you sort your contacts into customizable categories.
On top of that, many productivity email clients come with great search features that save you a lot of time and hassle.
They integrate automatic tagging and filtering that will help you find a specific email by using descriptive keywords of the content within it.
Additionally, worthy email clients come with great encryption to ensure that all your data is private and no third party has access to the content of your emails.
2. Disable Host IPS on McAfee Antivirus
- Right-click the McAfee Antivirus icon in your system tray.
- Go to Quick Settings.
- Now, just set Host IPS to off.
If you’re using McAfee Antivirus you should know that some of its features can cause crashes, but there’s no need to worry because you can easily fix this.
This solution has been confirmed as effective, but the only downside is that you have to repeat this process every time you start your PC.
Users reported that other antivirus applications, such as ESET antivirus, also have this feature. However, after disabling the HIPS feature in ESET, the problem should be resolved.
If this is a problem for you, you might want to consider switching to a different antivirus software until Microsoft or McAfee fixes this issue. There are many great antivirus solutions on the market.
The best antivirus software comes with full protection against malware, ransomware attacks, and more. On top of that, they include online protection features such as an integrated VPN.
3. Uninstall old addons for Outlook
- Go to Settings > System > Apps & features.
- Wait until the list of installed apps shows.
- Now search for any Outlook 2013 addons and delete them.
- After deleting them, restart your computer and try starting Outlook again.
If you have used Outlook 2013 chances are that you might have some addons for it installed on your computer. If you can’t start Outlook at all, you might want to try starting it in Safe Mode.
To do that, simply press and hold the Ctrl key and run Outlook 2016 to start it in Safe Mode. Users reported that Kaspersky Anti-Spam add-on caused this issue, but other add-ons can also cause it.
4. Reinstall Office 2016
- Open Control Panel.
- When Control Panel opens, go to Programs and Features.
- Select Microsoft Office from the list and choose Repair.
- Choose Online Repair option and follow the instructions.
If none of the solutions above help, you might want to try uninstalling and installing Office 2013 again.
If that doesn’t help, you’ll just have to wait for an official solution from Microsoft or to temporarily roll back from Office 2016 to Office 2013. Check out our dedicated article about rolling back to Office 2013 for more details.
Several users reported that they fixed the issue by repairing their Office installation. This is relatively simple, and you can do it by following the above steps.
After repairing your Office installation, check if the issue still persists.
5. Disable hardware acceleration
- Start Outlook.
- When Outlook starts, go to File > Options > Advanced.
- Locate Display section and check Disable Hardware graphics acceleration.
Many modern applications tend to use a hardware acceleration feature in order to provide a better performance, but sometimes this feature can cause problems to appear.

We recommend installing Restoro, a tool that will scan your machine and identify what the fault is.

To fix the issue, you need to disable it by doing as described above. Once you disable this feature, the problem should be completely resolved and Outlook will start working again.
6. Delete all email accounts and add them again
- Press Windows Key + S and enter control panel. Select Control Panel from the list of results.
- When Control Panel opens, go to User Accounts > Mail.
- When Mail window opens, click on Email accounts.
- Now select the desired account and click Remove. Repeat this step for all available accounts.
According to users, this problem might be caused by a corrupted email account. To fix the issue, you need to remove all your email accounts and add them again.
After removing the accounts, you need to add them again. Once the accounts are recreated, the problem should be completely resolved and Outlook will start working again.
7. Check your password
If Outlook keeps crashing on your Windows 10 PC, the problem might be your password. Users reported this problem after changing their account passwords on a different PC.
Even if you change your account password on a different device, other devices will still use the old password.
To fix that, you need to change your account settings and configure the account to use the new password. After doing that, Outlook should start working again without any problems.
8. Start Outlook as administrator
- Locate the Outlook shortcut on your Desktop.
- Right-click the shortcut and choose Run as administrator from the menu.
According to users, Outlook can sometimes crash if you don’t have administrative privileges. Fortunately for you, you can always try running Outlook as an administrator.
If this method works, you’ll have to use it every time you want to start Outlook. This can be a bit tedious, but there’s a way to always run Outlook with administrative privileges. To do that, just follow these steps:
- Right-click Outlook shortcut and choose Properties from the menu.
- Navigate to the Compatibility tab. Now check Run this program as an administrator option. Lastly, click on Apply and OK to save changes.
After doing that, Outlook will always start with administrative privileges, and you won’t have any issues with crashing.
9. Delete iCloud and Internet calendar
- Go to Control Panel > User Accounts > Mail.
- Click on Show Profiles.
- Select your profile and choose Properties > Data files.
- If you see iCloud or Internet calendars on the list, be sure to remove them.
If Outlook is crashing on your PC, you can fix the problem simply by deleting iCloud and Internet calendar. If you’re using these features, you might want to skip this solution and try something else.
On the other hand, if you don’t use iCloud or Internet calendar, you can remove them as described above. Then, try to start Outlook and check if the issue still persists.

10. Use manual configuration
- Select Manual setup or additional server types > Exchange ActiveSync.
- Now enter your user information.
- For the Mail server, you need to enter m.hotmail.com. If you’re using Outlook address, enter m.outlook.com.
You can fix this problem simply by using manual instead of automatic configuration. Automatic configuration is faster and simpler, but sometimes it can cause your Outlook to crash.
To use manual configuration, you just need to follow the above steps while setting up a new account.
After doing that, your Outlook should start working again without any problems. Many users reported that this solution worked for them, so be sure to try it out.
11. Perform a BIOS update
According to users, you might be able to fix the problem with Outlook crashes by performing a BIOS update.
Few users reported that Outlook 2016 crashes on their laptops, but after updating their BIOS, the issue was resolved.
Updating BIOS is a somewhat advanced procedure, so we advise you to be extra cautious while doing it. Be sure to check your motherboard manual for detailed instructions.
Keep in mind that you can cause permanent damage to your PC if you don’t update the BIOS properly, so be extra cautious.

7. Check your password
If Outlook keeps crashing on your Windows 10 PC, the problem might be your password. Users reported this problem after changing their account passwords on a different PC.
Even if you change your account password on a different device, other devices will still use the old password.

- Click on Show Profiles.
- Select your profile and choose Properties > Data files.
- If you see iCloud or Internet calendars on the list, be sure to remove them.

INTRODUCTION
There are plenty of occasions when you will find that Microsoft Office 2016 applications may crash or cannot start. You hook up to the net to find a solution and there are many articles around such issues from Microsoft or others. However, every case is very different and there is no one rule to solve them. The same happened to us and we thought a discussion of such a particular case could be helpful to others since we did not find any ready reference for a quick remedy for the issue we faced.
When an application on your PC crashes, one of the possible codes you will see in the Event Viewer log is the Event ID 1000 application error. When this shows up, the program you’re using will unexpectedly close. Moreover, you won’t be able to launch it properly. If you start to notice that this error code has been occurring more frequently on your computer, then it is high time you addressed the problem.
In this article, we are going to tell you how to resolve the error code 1000 application crashes for OUTLOOK.EXE.
ISSUE
Recently a Microsoft security update caused an issue in Outlook 2016. Outlook crashes on opening after July Security Updates are pushed by Microsoft.
After update to Windows 10 Pro (64-bit) build number 19041.388, Outlook has been refusing to start up. All the other Office applications work without error. Only Outlook closes automatically every time it is started.
Users will notice an error message of ‘Event ID 1000’ in their Event Viewer log. This entry basically means that a specific application crashed due to unknown events. Along with the error code, you will also be given the file path of the application which crashed.
In this case, Outlook 2016 crashes almost immediately with the following message in Event Viewer:
