It gave me that when I tried to redownload paradox launcher, can you help me?

Please try this:

— exit the Steam app entirely
— uninstall Paradox Launcher v2 from the Windows «Apps and features» utility, if still present.

Delete the following folders if still present:

— C:/users/ /AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/
— C:/users/ /AppData/Local/Paradox Interactive/
— C:/users/ /AppData/Roaming/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/
To see the AppData folder you’ll need to enable View Hidden Items in File Explorer.

— run steam.exe as the Windows Admin user

— run the game from the PLAY button in Steam

IF that doesn’t help, in this folder are some .log files:
C:/users/ /AppData/Local/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/
Please attach them here.

Game stopped launching (Steam Runtime Communication Error)

As of 17/07/2020, Cities: Skylines stopped launching. It gives «Steam runtime communication error», though Steam is running fine in the background. Additional error: «Steam API is not initialized». Tried to launch Steam as an administrator but it had no effect.

Please try a **clean** reinstall:

— Remove the game from Steam (uninstall)
— Manually delete all these files and folders, if still there:

. SteamsteamappscommonCities_Skylines
. SteamSteamAppsworkshopcontent255710
. AppDataLocalColossal OrderCities_Skylines
(first move the /saves/ folder elsewhere to keep your save games)
(To see the AppData folder you’ll need to enable View Hidden Items in File Explorer)

— Install the game again and see if it runs now.

On my end, there is no need to reinstall the game. That is very heavy-handed. Are you shooting in the dark?

A simple reboot allows the game to run exactly once. After closing the game, starting again is impossible until I reboot my computer again. AndrewT, what information do you require to do some actual troubleshooting? And before you request, no I will not try running the game with extra privileges or administrator rights, per the many help articles I’ve combed through on the paradox website.

Edit: The problem is obviously with the launcher, not the game itself. I attempted to link to the relevant paradox help page where I followed instructions, but your dumb system thinks the link is some sort of spam. Amazing.

The launcher is still broken. Attached are the logs I found in the launcher folder.

At this point, there is no telling what the problem was, as it resolved itself, and support seems perfectly content to regurgitate shots in the dark instead of actually investigating. The problem is no longer reproducible on my end, and just to be clear, no reinstallation or deletion of files coincided with the disappearance of the problem. I never reinstalled the game, and I never will attempt such inanity, as I will never be that desperate to play a video game.

In the future, I just hope that support will be honest with us when they don’t understand or don’t care to understand a particular issue. Complete reinstallation should always be a last resort. It’s very wasteful and presumtive.

That player.log does not match your problem report, I wonder if it is old . if you delete it then run the game again, does it make a new one?

The only issue i see in there is the nVidia driver is old but that’s not going to cause that Steam ID issue. You are running the game from the Steam PLAY button? Not a desktop shortcut or command line?

Launcher Error: Trouble Communicating with Steam

Hi I have this issue with the launcher. I’ve tried reinstalling and deleting the launcher files but to no avail. I’ve uninstalled it through the programs menu in windows and reinstalling with no luck either.

The ‘more details’ message is:

Do you have a firewall that might block the communication between the launcher and steam which happens over the loopback/localhost network interface?

— exit the Steam app completely
— uninstall Paradox Launcher v2 from the Windows «Apps and features» utility, if still present.

If so, my guess is one or more of your mods is (incorrectly) putting or changing files in the game’s folder, instead of the mod folder.

— unsubscribe from all mods in BOTH the Steam Workshop and the Paradox mod site mods.paradoxplaza.com
— delete the folder Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/mod/
— delete the file Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/mods_registry.json (if present)
— delete the file Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/launcher-v2.sqlite (if present)
— run the game up and check the launcher is okay with no mod or other errors
— subscribe to a few mods

— run the game up and see if those mods are now available to you.

— move any valued save games elsewhere, and user empire designs.txt from /Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/ if you have made any custom empires or races.
— «uninstall» in Steam-Stellaris
— exit the Steam app entirely
— manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/Stellaris AND Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris folders
— delete everything in the Steam folder EXCEPT steam.exe and the SteamApps folder
— run steam.exe to rebuild all that
— re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
— add stellaris.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware «Apps Allowed Through» list.

Logging in from a different user and launching Stellaris from Steam did NOT cause an error to appear.

Still have no idea how the existing original Windows user fails to work.

Then either there are still game, mod or launcher files left in your original Windows user profile folders, OR that profile is bugged or corrupted in some way.
