EMU1212M PatchMix DSP App Busted Since Win 10 1903

Ever since build 1903 of Windows 10 came out, the EmuPMX_PCApp_L6_2_10_00.exe user space program for my sound card has stopped working. I get a nasty error dialog saying «You don’t appear to have sufficient E-MU hardware to load the session in your system». This effectively makes my sound card useless.

Even though the kernel level windows drivers seem to be working, the card apparently won’t put out any sound until the DSP chip is initialized.

In order to get a working sound card, I have to revert back to Version 1809 (OS Build 17763.805) of Windows 10 and use the «deprecated» Creative Labs drivers for MS Windows.

UPDATE: This is frustrating because the sound card also now works at least partially in Ubuntu 18.04 LTS (Bionic Beaver) [A]

Does anyone have any idea how I can get the Patch Mix DSP app for the EMU 1212M working in Win 10 1903 and later versions?
(Right now it doesn’t even seem to work in Version 1909)

NOTE: I’ve tried the Open Source kxDrivers but they don’t seem to be working for me either. I’ve had the kxDrivers working on an EMU-APS before in older Windows OSes, but I’m not sure I’ve ever had them working for the 1212M on Win 10. As I said above, the 1212M does work with the stock EMU drivers and the EmuPMX_PCApp_L6_2_10_00.exe app on Version 1809 (OS Build 17763.805); however, it’s been broke since build 1903 and I’ve been rolling back the updates for months now.

UPDATE: Since my EMU1212M is now working at least partially in UBuntu thanks to the help of agkbill, I suppose the next step would be to compare the DSP initialization sequence between the ALSA GNULinux drivers and the opensource MS Windows kxDrivers. Unfrotunately, I’m afraid that’s going to be a non-trivial undertaking that could take me months (or maybe ever years?). I’m not sure my patience (or lack thereof) and other hobbies will let me stay up to that kind of task.

Вы пробовали установить стандартный драйвер, который доступен на официальном сайте E-MU последней версии?
У меня на E-MU 1616 и E-MU1616M сначала были проблемы, потом я нашел мануал в сети, сделал, как там написано, и все ок завелось на Win10. Ничего подменять не пришлось.

P.S. Подходит и для E-MU 1212m и E-MU 0404

P.P.S. Уже на пороге Windows 11, как там это все будет работать — неизвестно.

1212m mic input is working great in DAWS but not in Windows 11 for just talking etc.

When I do the mic test in Windows 11,it does not recognise any signal.

In the Patchmix mixer,the channel getting mic input has sends on the channel going to ASIO IN 1/2 Host and WAVE L/R Host so the input channel WAVE should be getting signal..

Spend more time mucking around.

Patchmix Channel 1 (Stereo 1) is WAVE 1/2 ,Patchmix Channel 2 (Stereo 2) is ASIO OUT 31/32 and Patchmix Channel 3 (Stereo 3) is I/O Card In L/R.

Patchmix Channel 3 (Stereo 3) is receiving input from the MIC but Windows 11 can not see it.

How to get Windows 11 to receive input from the mic?

P.S. might have to get a cheap headset for that but I have seen people use Pro mics on you tube,I don’t get it.

Windows MIxer only lets you pick the soundcard for input ,not a particular input channel OF that Sound Card,Here we are in 2022 and windows still thinks it’s in 1990.

микрофонный вход Windows 10 «не видит», при этом DAW распознает микрофон хорошо.

Это проблема старого E-MU-драйвера, подразделения, которое занималось E-MU звуковыми картами уже давно нет.
Изначально драйвера никто не адаптировал под логику всей линейки Windows XP — 10.
Этот продукт позиционировался как Профессиональный DSP. А юзать микрофонный вход на Винде — это для рядовых юзеров.
Я вам даже больше скажу: линейный вход не определялся Виндой еще со времен Windows XP.

Кроме того, from-the-box невозможно никаким образом настроить корректно «видимость» сигнала с Line-In в Диспетчере звука Windows только используя родной PatchMix DSP.

Но, если уж так сильно «надо», чтобы Винда распознавала Mic-In, то это решается покупкой дополнительной USB Звуковой карты или USB Микшера (внимание! также этот способ работает и на урезанных по шине 32x CardBus вариантах).
Итак, сначала нужно произвести audio-forwarding настройки внутри PatchMixDSP (расскажу на примере E-MU 1616M).
Для примера возьмем второй Line-In Hi-Z вход на Доке:

1. На DOCK IN 2L/2R Strip внутри PatchMixDSP добавляем Insert Send (Output to ASIO/WAVE or Physical Out)
2. Выбираем Select Send output: DOCK Out 2L/2R
3. Подключаем наш дешевый (возможно, купленный на Aliexpress) внешний USB аудионтерфейс в соотвествующий аудио-выход дока E-MU 1616m
   (например, если USB аудиоинтерфейс имеет линейный вход аля 3.5mm jack, то соединяем кабелем 3.5mm Jack — 3.5mm Jack (на Доке E-MU есть также дублирующий аудио-выход формата 3.5mm) с дыркой под номером «2».
4. При этом Windows распознает Line-In вход с дешевого внешнего USB аудионтерфейса, и это видно в диспетчере устройств. Но звук буллшит, это понятно, потому что карты с али такие.

Это все, что касается настройки «видимости» аудисигнала с микрофонного входа E-MU в микшере диспетчера аудиоустройств windows.
Вопрос в другом — оно вам надо?

Также, я пробовал всеми любимый voicemeeter banana asio input. Но не смог настроить так, чтобы все заработало корректно.

Зато получилось настроить видимость всех ASIO каналов в OBS Studio с помощью ODeus ASIO Link Pro для онлайн-стримов из DAW.

Известная проблема, когда на ОС Windows 10 карты e-mu (PCI точно) могут работать только в режиме 48000, в других режимах звук отсутствует. Это касается WDM, через ASIO же доступен весь спектр частот. Соответственно, можно работать с наиболее ходовой частотой 44100. Но, такая же дискретизация будет автоматом выставлена и в windows, а не только в патчмиксе, что отключает весь остальной звук (браузерный, системный и т.п).

Соответственно, нам нужен софт, который принимает системный поток и выводит его через asio. На данный момент, мне известно о двух подобных программах, а именно: O Deus ASIO Link Pro и Voicemeeter. Первая более функциональна, но платная ($50), а вторая условно бесплатна, и так же прекрасно справляется со своей задачей.

Инструкция по настройке:

День добрый. А J River Media Center не тестировали? Там тоже были средства по перехвату wdm потока и перенаправления на звуковую по asio.

Нет, не пробовал. В принципе, джей ривер, это широкий комплекс, а voicemeeter или o deus более специализированные средства, ничего лишнего, так сказать.

А в Windows 7 всё нормально работает?

MAXIM_A в win 7 частоты выставляются все так что по данному вопросу в ней делать ничего не надо

E-MU 0404 PCI & Windows 10

J’ai eu l’occasion d’acheter cette carte son il y a de cela quelques années à la braderie de Lille pour à peine quelques euros. Ma première carte son «professionnelle». C’est une E-MU (= cartes sons CREATIVE professionnelles pour musiciens et autres) modèle 0404 PCI. PCI tout court et non pas PCI-Express.

Sur la toile il est dit qu’il est difficile de la faire tourner sous Windows 10. En effet la carte n’est pas reconnue nativement. Pour autant en installant les pilotes officiels (à l’ancienne) qui datent de 2011 tout fonctionne très bien, la preuve en images.

Vous devez impérativement installer le logiciel PatchMix DSP pour avoir la carte fonctionnelle (routage).
Installer le pilote seul ne suffit pas.

Depuis la MAJ 1903 de Windows, la carte ne fonctionne plus. L’application PatchMix affiche un message d’erreur comme si la carte son n’était plus présente.

Pour autant elle apparait bien dans le gestionnaire des périphériques avec les pilotes appropriés. Il y a visiblement un problème de dialogue entre le Patchmix et la carte. Rappel : c’est cette application qui dicte le routing à effectuer à la carte son, sans elle pas de son. Visiblement ils ont changé quelque chose mais je ne sais pas quoi. Beaucoup de monde est touché car cela concerne plusieurs vieilles interfaces obsolètes E-MU. J’ai trouvé la solution ici. Les types proposent deux méthodes mais je n’ai pas eu besoin des scripts PowerShell. La carte reste une «X-Fi» mais OSEF ça fonctionne.

Remarque : ASIO testé 100% fonctionnel sous Wavelab 9 après ces manips.

The Creative Labs EMU drivers install properly. However, the PatchMix DSP program crashes as it loads, so you can’t use the EMU hardware. I have an EMU 1820M, but it’s the same for all recent EMU products.

Some people have apparently made this work. Any ideas?

Since we are in the earliest stages of the Windows 7 beta, the only thing we can recommend at this point is to contact EMU Support and check for any known compatibility issues or what their plans are for Windows 7 support.

I have the EMU 404, however my Patchmix DSP works fine. Well, mostly. It installs OK, but regularly has distorted sound. I could be playing some music, then the sound distorts. If I then pause WMP, then play, this more often that not fixes the problem. If I play ANY games, the sound distorts usually within the first few minutes and requires a reboot. I have the same games and hardware running on XP with no problem.

Guess I need to get in touch with EMU then?
