Unlocking

Usage

The railgun is a super-powered experimental Anti-Armor weapon with an extremely powerful blast. Each high-speed projectile deals 2000 direct damage on hit and an additional 400 splash damage within a massive 10m radius.

It is the only weapon capable of damaging and destroying the UFO.

Advantages

The Railgun’s damage, carrying capacity, splash radius and projectile velocity exceed that of every other Anti Armor weapon. It effectively functions as a vastly superior SLAM-R, one or two-hit killing every type of vehicle on the field. It can also be used to completely trivialize entire squads from a safe distance. With enough ammo to kill several tanks without resupplying, the Railgun is a device uniquely poised to lay waste to the enemy in almost any mid/long range scenario.

Weaknesses

Unlike the SLAM-R, the Railgun does not have any optical attachments, making it tricky to use at longer ranges. Due to the massive splash damage and area of effect, it carries the inherent risk of friendly fire or even self-damage, more so than other Anti-Armor weapons.

  • As part of SteelRaven7’s attempt to mock players who pirated the game, a «Kamikaze» version of the Railgun replaces the normal weapon in pirated. When fired, the «Unpowered» Railgun’s projectiles will immediately fall to the ground and instantly kill the player and any nearby bots. The Unpowered version is also seen in the equipment slot when a player launches the game with the «-nocontentmods» shortcut, which occurs even with legitimate copies of the game.
    • However, the «Unpowered» version of the railgun can be useful for any players planning to execute a suicide attack on enemy forces). Likewise, experienced modders can also effectively bypass SteelRaven7’s restrictions.
  • In the unlock cutscene, The Advisor mentions that Railgun is produced by the Eagles’ RND Division, implying its existence in the game’s lore despite never being directly pictured.
    • This also makes it the only known weapon produced by either faction.
  • The design of the Railgun is loosely based on the Gauss Rifle seen in Fallout 4.
