I have recently upgraded to windows 8 64 bit from windows 7 64 bit and I am facing an issue like «error: msxml4.0 is not properly installed» while starting
the game after exhaustive search and looking through microsoft articles and user questions I have been unable to resolve the Issue.
Can anyone suggest any solution or resource to resolve this issue.

Sounds like something which might be a bogus message.   E.g. an error happened and rather than give you precise symptoms the program is trying to be helpful and give you the most probable cause.   FWIW I would run ProcMon to try to supplement
that error symptom.   Doing that might expose other diagnostics that the program is creating that you haven’t discovered yet.

OTOH I just noticed that in Manage Add-ons All Add-ons I have only msxml3.dll and msxml6.dll even known. The only other one available to me in W8 is msxml5.dll (in C:Program Files (x86)Common FilesMicrosoft
SharedOFFICE11 but currently unknown to IE).   On W7 I may have msxml4.dll but it looks as if it would have been a separate install…

Thank you robert for taking time to solve my issue, but I have tried to install the game on my other windows 8 machine(with

msxml3.dll and msxml6.dll only), and it worked fine their, I’m not sure why isn’t it working on my machine which has msxml3.dll
and msxml6.dll + plus msxml4.dll installed explicitly.

Can you suggest other solutions to this issue with the system.And yes I have had installed msxml4 explicitly and I found out that it is incompatible with Windows 8 64 bit version,couldn’t register the DLL with my OS.

When I try to load Rise of Nations, I receive a popup
that says «MSXML 4.0 is not properly installed». I have
found instructions in MS SUpport website FAQ’s that
details how to reinstall the MSXML 4.0 files and have
done that to no avail.

I have even reinstalled Rise of Nations but have not been
able to play because of this problem.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

months and suddenly this is happening. I do not know what «xml» is to
uninstall it. I did try to install the whole thing from the site you listed
but apparently it does not work without first unintalling. Can you help more?

Boy, do I feel stupid. That was exactly what the error message said. It never
occurred to me to look for that. Anyway, I deleted both instances of the
msxml parser and then reinstalled from the site in your message (msxml.msi)
and now when I try to start the game I get this message
«translated_string.xml not loaded. File missing?»

every instance of XML which you might find installed there as I
suspect you have more than one instance causing a conflict.

Afterwards:
Download and install the complete MS XML Service Pack 2:

You might have to uninstall RON, reboot and then install it again for
it to work properly. Sorry to read the you’re having so much trouble.

Hi Jimmy!
You are a genius! I re-installed as you suggested and it is working. I was
even able to save the player profiles and saved games.
I don’t mind having trouble with games like this as long as there are
wonderful and helpful people like yourself that I can access for help.

today its 2021, and i even find this helpful, as i sometimes fire up old games every now and then…so indeed helpfull as Gloria said, just want to add my two cents, for those who (now) cant find the components mentioned or even the game listed as installed, sometimes when installing/uninstalling alot, craches..viruses and stuff the data can get corrupted…and even if it is not listed…fire up the installer (for the game or component), install/repair as if it was never installed, now..restart if asked, uninstall the game/component, restart and now do a final workable install again…now hopefully its working again unless something else corrupted…

I am not a stranger to the RoN tech forums. No problem of mine has ever been fixed without buying a new video card or reformatting the computer, so I hope I am forgiven for sounding too pessimistic.

I decide to run RoN again after my computer lost all it’s registry information. After reinstalling both the original and the expansion, I tried to run the game, and this is where problems start.

It tells me that MSXML 4.0 is not properly installed, and there is nothing I can do about it. I know that you should double-click the msxmlenu.msi file on the CD, but — oh joy — it has no file association. I cannot access it at all. I open it in word and there is no helpful information, and I try to run it as a programme and it just freezes the computer.

A little help, please?

The msi extension should be associated with «windows installer» and the association sometimes gets lost.

It may be that your whole windows installer is corrupted, I recall there is a way to repair that, let me know if you need that and I’ll have a dig around.

Thank you very much for your reply, but I opened the registry file as required and I came upon the following message…

Cannot import C:MSI1.REG: The specified file is not a registry script. You can import only registry files.

I am unsure whether my windows installer is corrupt — because when I try and run the windows installer exe (from the Microsoft Database), I get told that «this service is already installed» or something along those lines.

Edit: I think the reason my computer doesn’t recognise the registry file is because I run 98SE rather than XP. I should have checked this, but do you know if there are similar versions for 98?

Yes, the reg fix fails because it is an XP file.

Maybe simplest to just install an update for the Windows Installer, that should put everything right.

Ah yes — this is the file that I tried running before. It tells me that the service is already installed and I can’t find a way to reinstall it (what would it be called in the add/remove software panel)?

Thanks for the help so far. If I can get windows installer running it should be the end of this problem.

Start/Run… then enter

«C:WINDOWSSystem32msiexec.exe» /i «D:redistMSXMLENU.MSI»

(or is it system32 for Win98? can’t recall, assumes D: is your CD)

You could also try adding the .msi as a file type yourself manually in explorter>>tools>>options

Add a file type for msi extensions and use the following to associate it with an install action

«C:WINDOWSSystemmsiexec.exe» /i «%1» %*

(or system32 depending where it lives on 98)

And check use DDE

In 98, Windows Installer is located in the ‘System’ folder. I tried setting up the file associations in explorer using

I was unsure about the following » /i «%1″ %*» so I didn’t include them — I imagine this is why I still cannot run the MSI files.

Instead, when I click on them, it will open a small window with the title «Windows Installer» with the copyright information and «Incorrect command line parameters«. Would this be why it hasn’t installed the file?

/i is the command line parameter to install. You could use /package iirc

The %1 is the parameter list so you can pass filenames to it for the association to work.

The MSI soon associated itself as a Windows Installer Package . However, when I attempt to install I am told…

«This advertised application will not be installed because it might be unsafe. Contact your administrator to change the installation user-interface option of the package to basic.»

Ah, closer, seems that you have an incomplete deployment of to package.

Here are a few things to try.

1) Go to control panel and add/remove programs. If you see the MSXML 4.0 parser listed, try to remove it and try the install again.

2) May not be applicable but right-click properties on the msi package and click teh deployment tab if there is one (there may not be), set it to basic there.

3) Try this command line to access basic interface:
«C:WINDOWSSystemmsiexec.exe» /qb /i «D:redistMSXMLENU.MSI»

(not sure if you need the /i as well as the /qb)

4) Try repairing the package:
«C:WINDOWSSystemmsiexec.exe» /fa «D:redistMSXMLENU.MSI»

Что сделать в первую очередь

Скачайте и запустите всемирно известный CCleaner (скачать по прямой ссылке) — это программа, которая очистит ваш компьютер от ненужного мусора, в результате чего система станет работать быстрее после первой же перезагрузки;
Обновите все драйверы в системе с помощью программы Driver Updater (скачать по прямой ссылке) — она просканирует ваш компьютер и обновит все драйверы до актуальной версии за 5 минут;
Установите Advanced System Optimizer (скачать по прямой ссылке) и включите в ней игровой режим, который завершит бесполезные фоновые процессы во время запуска игр и повысит производительность в игре.

Скорость лично вашего интернет-канала не является единственно определяющей скорость загрузки. Если раздающий сервер работает на скорости, скажем, 5 Мб в секунду, то ваши 100 Мб делу не помогут.

Если Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends совсем не скачивается, то это может происходить сразу по куче причин: неправильно настроен роутер, проблемы на стороне провайдера, кот погрыз кабель или, в конце-концов, упавший сервер на стороне сервиса, откуда скачивается игра.

ROL не устанавливается. Прекращена установка. Решение

Перед тем, как начать установку Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends, нужно еще раз обязательно проверить, какой объем она занимает на диске. Если же проблема с наличием свободного места на диске исключена, то следует провести диагностику диска. Возможно, в нем уже накопилось много «битых» секторов, и он банально неисправен?

В Windows есть стандартные средства проверки состояния HDD- и SSD-накопителей, но лучше всего воспользоваться специализированными программами.

Но нельзя также исключать и вероятность того, что из-за обрыва соединения загрузка прошла неудачно, такое тоже бывает. А если устанавливаете Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends с диска, то стоит поглядеть, нет ли на носителе царапин и чужеродных веществ!

Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends не запускается. Ошибка при запуске. Решение

Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends установилась, но попросту отказывается работать. Как быть?

Выдает ли Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends какую-нибудь ошибку после вылета? Если да, то какой у нее текст? Возможно, она не поддерживает вашу видеокарту или какое-то другое оборудование? Или ей не хватает оперативной памяти?

Помните, что разработчики сами заинтересованы в том, чтобы встроить в игры систему описания ошибки при сбое. Им это нужно, чтобы понять, почему их проект не запускается при тестировании.

Обязательно запишите текст ошибки. Если вы не владеете иностранным языком, то обратитесь на официальный форум разработчиков ROL. Также будет полезно заглянуть в крупные игровые сообщества и, конечно, в наш FAQ.

Проблемы с экранами разных цветов можно условно разделить на 2 категории.

Во-первых, они часто связаны с использованием сразу двух видеокарт. Например, если ваша материнская плата имеет встроенную видеокарту, но играете вы на дискретной, то Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends может в первый раз запускаться на встроенной, при этом самой игры вы не увидите, ведь монитор подключен к дискретной видеокарте.

Во-вторых, цветные экраны бывают при проблемах с выводом изображения на экран. Это может происходить по разным причинам. Например, Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends не может наладить работу через устаревший драйвер или не поддерживает видеокарту. Также черный/белый экран может выводиться при работе на разрешениях, которые не поддерживаются игрой.

Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends вылетает. В определенный или случайный момент. Решение

Играете вы себе, играете и тут — бац! — все гаснет, и вот уже перед вами рабочий стол без какого-либо намека на игру. Почему так происходит? Для решения проблемы стоит попробовать разобраться, какой характер имеет проблема.

Если вылет происходит в случайный момент времени без какой-то закономерности, то с вероятностью в 99% можно сказать, что это ошибка самой игры. В таком случае исправить что-то очень трудно, и лучше всего просто отложить Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends в сторону и дождаться патча.

Однако если вы точно знаете, в какие моменты происходит вылет, то можно и продолжить игру, избегая ситуаций, которые провоцируют сбой.

Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends зависает. Картинка застывает. Решение

Ситуация примерно такая же, как и с вылетами: многие зависания напрямую связаны с самой игрой, а вернее с ошибкой разработчика при ее создании. Впрочем, нередко застывшая картинка может стать отправной точкой для расследования плачевного состояния видеокарты или процессора.Так что если картинка в Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends застывает, то воспользуйтесь программами для вывода статистики по загрузке комплектующих. Быть может, ваша видеокарта уже давно исчерпала свой рабочий ресурс или процессор греется до опасных температур?Проверить загрузку и температуры для видеокарты и процессоров проще всего в программе MSI Afterburner. При желании можно даже выводить эти и многие другие параметры поверх картинки Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends.Какие температуры опасны? Процессоры и видеокарты имеют разные рабочие температуры. У видеокарт они обычно составляют 60-80 градусов по Цельсию. У процессоров немного ниже — 40-70 градусов. Если температура процессора выше, то следует проверить состояние термопасты. Возможно, она уже высохла и требует замены.Если греется видеокарта, то стоит воспользоваться драйвером или официальной утилитой от производителя. Нужно увеличить количество оборотов кулеров и проверить, снизится ли рабочая температура.

Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends тормозит. Низкий FPS. Просадки частоты кадров. Решение

При тормозах и низкой частоте кадров в ROL первым делом стоит снизить настройки графики. Разумеется, их много, поэтому прежде чем снижать все подряд, стоит узнать, как именно те или иные настройки влияют на производительность.Разрешение экрана. Если кратко, то это количество точек, из которого складывается картинка игры. Чем больше разрешение, тем выше нагрузка на видеокарту. Впрочем, повышение нагрузки незначительное, поэтому снижать разрешение экрана следует только в самую последнюю очередь, когда все остальное уже не помогает.Качество текстур. Как правило, этот параметр определяет разрешение файлов текстур. Снизить качество текстур следует в случае если видеокарта обладает небольшим запасом видеопамяти (меньше 4 ГБ) или если используется очень старый жесткий диск, скорость оборотов шпинделя у которого меньше 7200.Качество моделей (иногда просто детализация). Эта настройка определяет, какой набор 3D-моделей будет использоваться в игре. Чем выше качество, тем больше полигонов. Соответственно, высокополигональные модели требуют большей вычислительной мощности видекарты (не путать с объемом видеопамяти!), а значит снижать этот параметр следует на видеокартах с низкой частотой ядра или памяти.Тени. Бывают реализованы по-разному. В одних играх тени создаются динамически, то есть они просчитываются в реальном времени в каждую секунду игры. Такие динамические тени загружают и процессор, и видеокарту. В целях оптимизации разработчики часто отказываются от полноценного рендера и добавляют в игру пре-рендер теней. Они статичные, потому как по сути это просто текстуры, накладывающиеся поверх основных текстур, а значит загружают они память, а не ядро видеокарты.Нередко разработчики добавляют дополнительные настройки, связанные с тенями:

Разрешение теней — определяет, насколько детальной будет тень, отбрасываемая объектом. Если в игре динамические тени, то загружает ядро видеокарты, а если используется заранее созданный рендер, то «ест» видеопамять.
Мягкие тени — сглаживание неровностей на самих тенях, обычно эта опция дается вместе с динамическими тенями. Вне зависимости от типа теней нагружает видеокарту в реальном времени.

Сглаживание. Позволяет избавиться от некрасивых углов на краях объектов за счет использования специального алгоритма, суть которого обычно сводится к тому, чтобы генерировать сразу несколько изображений и сопоставлять их, высчитывая наиболее «гладкую» картинку. Существует много разных алгоритмов сглаживания, которые отличаются по уровню влияния на быстродействие Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends.Например, MSAA работает «в лоб», создавая сразу 2, 4 или 8 рендеров, поэтому частота кадров снижается соответственно в 2, 4 или 8 раз. Такие алгоритмы как FXAA и TAA действуют немного иначе, добиваясь сглаженной картинки путем высчитывания исключительно краев и с помощью некоторых других ухищрений. Благодаря этому они не так сильно снижают производительность.Освещение. Как и в случае со сглаживанием, существуют разные алгоритмы эффектов освещения: SSAO, HBAO, HDAO.
