В большинстве компьютеров используется маленькая, размером с пятикопеечную монету, батарейка. Она питает микросхему памяти CMOS, в которой сохраняются настройки аппаратной конфигурации компьютера, при его полном отключении от сети. Технический аспект

Чип CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) установлен в абсолютном большинстве современных компьютеров. Он служит для записи данных об установленном оборудовании, его настройках. В этот список входит оперативная память, жесткий диск и прочие компоненты системы. В чипе прописываются также настройки безопасности, включая пароль на включение компьютера и вход в настройки BIOS. В CMOS можно также задать текущее время и системную дату.

Диагностика

Согласно со стандартными мануалами к компьютерам, сообщение «battery voltage is low» означает, что система обнаружила низкий уровень напряжения, поступающий на чип CMOS от батареи. Если это произошло, то при включении компьютер потеряет не только актуальные данные о текущем времени и дате, но и об установленном оборудовании. Вам их придется ввести для того, чтобы операционная система смогла нормально загрузиться.

Устранение неисправности

Первое, что рекомендуется инструкциями в таких случаях, это попытаться повторно установить старую батарею. Изучите схему материнской платы компьютера, чтобы найти посадочное место батареи. Для переустановки батареи вам придется открыть системный корпус, снять ее, осмотреть и поставить на место в батарейный слот. При выполнении этой операции будьте осторожны, снимите со своего тела заряд статического электричества, чтобы не повредить компоненты системы. Для этого лучше всего надеть заземляющий браслет и присоединить его к металлическим элементам корпуса.

Предупреждение

Будьте внимательны при обращении с батарейками. При неправильной установке они вполне могут взорваться. Несмотря на столь простую операцию, без надлежащего опыта лучше обратиться к специалисту.

Замена батареи

Если после переустановки батарейки сообщение о низком напряжении не исчезает, остается только заменить ее на новую. Кстати, напряжение старой батареи можно проверить с помощью вольтметра, но делать это нужно при ее нахождении в батарейном слоте, то есть под нагрузкой. В нормальном состоянии напряжение должно быть в пределах 2.9-3.0 вольт.

RTC battery is low.

About 3 days ago. My laptop started behaving strangely (I’m on it, right now). I let it fall couple of times, but that was really some time ago about 3 months. Everything worked fine, no errors, crashes, «instant deaths».

But recently, as said, 3 days ago. Laptop popped me out a message on pre-Windows level (looks like BIOS), telling me literally «

RTC battery is low.
Press F2 key to set date/time.

So I thought, okay, I will set the time and go on with my life. But then I went in a game (lateron I found out it’s not about the game, it happens just randomly or when I press area around touchpad (the gray metalic area which is like 15% of laptop’s base which has touchpad in middle)) and suddenly it went off, as if my power supply was gone, it’s as if you pulled all electricity from it an instant poof.

After restarting (just pressing power button), it asked me again for time and I did it again, then it again crashed, but from this moment and until now, following encounters. I start the laptop, it shuts down before Toshiba’s logo appears (it appears while you can press F2 and F12 for BIOS access), [Note, from here on, the «attempts» are happening within 3 seconds from another]. I start it again, it takes laptop 10 seconds to show Toshiba’s logo, it asks me to set time (message above). So I pressed F2. White _ appeared in top left with black background, it was really white (not regular grayish) and it didn’t «tick» (it wasn’t blinking, it’s just statically there). After some time I thought I might just shut it down using power button (holding it 3 seconds), after restarting, laptop shuts down again before Toshiba’s logo appears, on another attempt of powering up, logo of Toshiba appears in 5 seconds and computer proceeds with regular booting. When I look at Windows’s time it points me to 2012, luckily I can update the time through servers because I can’t access HTTPS pages otherwise.

Then I looked up at «set date/time», so I immediately thought about that battery on motherboard that counts time when accu is dead. So I exchanged it with a new one, but it still prompts the message and laptop still dies.

Another thing worth noting, this laptop just can’t stand in «Sleep Mode». If I put it to sleep, after 30 minutes normally it turns on and shuts down (found out he would turn on in my laptop bag when I found out). Sometimes I put it to sleep in the evening and then it wakes about after 2-5 hours and shuts down too (I don’t know what the difference is). This happens both on BIOS, Windows and Linux (that’s why I’m posting this in general)

@edit — Sometimes applying pressure on gray metalic area (reference above, somewhere) doesn’t cause computer to crash. It would be even ridiculous sometimes when I detach my keyboard and lightly push plastic cover to metal cover of fan, it would crash too without any actual attachment to the motherboard.

CMOS Memory Size Mismatch. Memory Size Changed. MEMORY SIZE HAS CHANGED SINCE LAST BOOT — объем физической памяти на ма- терннской плате, определенный в процессе POST, не совпал с данными CMOS. Причиной этих сообщений может быть как физическое изменение (добавление/удаление модулей памяти) , так и неисправность элементов памяти. Если после перезагрузки сообщение не пропадает, то неисправность может быть аппаратной.
CMOS System Options Not Set. CMOS Settings Wrong — данные в CMOS повреждены или отсутствуют. Необходимо выполнить вход в BIOS Setup и просмотреть настройки (либо выставить их в значения «по умолчанию»).
CMOS Time and Date Not Set, CMOS Date/Time Not Set — нарушены или не установлены параметры даты и/или времени Проблема решается проверкой (или установкой) этих параметров в BIOS Setup. Подобное сообщение нередко указывает на неисправность батарейки CMOS.
Real time clock failure, Real time clock error — ошибка часов реального времени. Необходимо вызвать BIOS Setup и установить правильное время. Как правило, сообщение появляется при сильно разряженной батарейке CMOS.
Для исправления некоторых достаточно перезагрузить компьютер или выставить установки BIOS Setup в положение «по умолчанию».

Если вы все-таки запороли BIOS

Если вы таки умудрились напортачить в этом простом, но ответственном деле, попытаемся восстановить работоспособность базовой системы ввода/вывода вашей матплаты. Существуют два способа: программный и аппаратно-программный. Разберем сначала первый, так как он относительно проще. Заключается он в попытке повторной перепрошивки. Если загрузка компа доходит хотя бы до прохождения POST, и система способна загрузиться с флоппика, пихаем в него нашу системную дискету с прошивальщиком и прошивкой и повторяем процесс перепрошивки сначала. Если повезет, то вскоре монитор, как и давеча, обрадует вас родными «окошками». Если вы довели BIOS до такого состояния, что загрузка компьютера не доходит даже до POST, дела намного хуже. Либо придется навестить сервис-центр, либо, если микросхема EEPROM не впаяна в матплату, а просто туда вставляется и может быть легко демонтирована, вынимаем ее и идем туда, где нам доверят такую же материнку с таким же демонтируемым BIOS’ом.

Решил вопрос как написано в руководстве к материнской плате.
1. Выключите компьютер и отсоедините шнур питания.
2. Переместите перемычку джампера CLRTC из контактов 1 -2 (по умолчанию) на контакты 2-3. Держать перемычку на контактах 2-3 в течение примерно 5-10 секунд, затем переместите перемычку на контакты 1 -2.
3. Подключите шнур питания и включите компьютер.
4. Удерживая нажатой клавишу в процессе загрузки и входа в программу настройки BIOS на повторный Ввод данных (установить реальное время и дату). Сохранить все и радуйся.

Перемычка должна быть на контактах 1-2 в CLRTC. Иначе будет неудачная загрузка системы!

Если описанные выше действия не помогают, необходимо сделать все тоже самое но вначале после выполнения п. 1 вытащите батарейку из материнской платы. Выполняем п. 2 и после очистки СМОS, установите батарейку на место и далее выполняем пункт 3-4.

Question Toshiba Satellite Stuck On ‘RTC Battery Low’

I’ve looked everywhere for some info on my problem but I can’t really find any mention of this specifically.

I have a Toshiba Satellite C50D-A that was having an issue with a corrupt Windows 10 so long story short the hard drive was wiped and it wasn’t booting an installer USB (probably secure boot or something simple). I was changing some settings in the bios and like an idiot I decided that while I’m unable to boot into an OS I’ll help myself out and enable fast boot for absolutely no reason at all.

Of course it still couldn’t find any bootable drive but no worries, I’ll just boot into bios again. That’s when I realized I did a stupid and I can’t boot into bios cause I enabled fast boot. No combination of keys were working including holding down the normal one but before turning on the laptop.

I decided I’ll remove the RTC battery with the laptop battery removed and hold the power button in hopes that’ll reset the bios.

Well now when it turns on the screen shows:

The problem is F2 doesn’t do diddly squat. No key does. I plug in an external keyboard and it’s backlight lights up for half a second then turns back off and it doesn’t work either. The laptop keyboard was working fine and the external one is fine too.
I’ve even replaced the RTC battery with a brand new one and given the laptop time to charge to full.
I believe I replaced the hard drive with one that already has windows 10 installed on it but still can’t get past the battery warning.
The computer turns off after about a minute of showing it.

I’m completely stumped and google hasn’t been of help. If anyone is familiar with this or has some idea please share cause I’m out of them and I really don’t wanna toss it.

Данную микросхему принято называть RTC/NVRAM, но чаще всего она упоминается как микросхема CMOS или CMOS-память. Таки чипы имеют независимое питание и способны сохранять записанные данные на протяжении нескольких лет.

Первая микросхема, которая устанавливалась в оригинальные IBM AT, была изготовлена специалистами Motorola и обозначалась как MC146818. В данный момент микросхемы такого типа выпускает большое количество производителей, но, несмотря на то, что они обладают различными характеристиками, все они совместимы с вышеупомянутой микросхемой. В большей части современных материнских плат чип RTC/NVRAM встраивается в архитектуру южного моста либо в контроллер ввода-вывода.

Микросхема содержит RTC (часы реального времени), которые предоставляют текущее время и дату, причем время и дата не собьются даже при выключении ПК. Часть чипа, называемая NVRAM, несет другой функционал. Он предназначен для хранения информации о параметрах компьютера, включая информацию о накопителях, установленной памяти и т.д.
Используются несколько видов батарей NVRAM (CMOS RAM). Чаще всего устанавливаются литиевые, поскольку срок службы у них довольно продолжителен (до пяти лет). При этом, обычно используются элементы типа CR2032.

При уменьшении заряда батареи снижается и выходное напряжение, что может оказать влияние на точность встроенных часов. Большинство стандартных литиевых батареек обладают выходным напряжением 3 В, но уровень напряжения еще не используемой батареи несколько выше 3 В. Если встроенные часы начали показывать некорректное время, в первую очередь следует проверить напряжение, которое подается на энергонезависимую память. Наибольшую точность часы показывают при напряжении 3 вольта или немного выше. Данный уровень напряжения батарейка сохраняет практически до полного истощения заряда.

Таким образом, обычная батарейка на материнской плате позволяет компьютеру не только не забывать основные системные настройки, но и всегда корректно отображать время. Даже если компьютер постоянно отключен от сети, батарейка в течение нескольких лет будет питать автономные часы и микросхему памяти.

After updating my BIOS in title, and there seems to be issue after issue. This worked to redetect the battery, but ONLY replaced, or its fully discharged and not being recharged. There may also be a software issue in Windows, but missing drivers etc, an ‘x’ on the battery and says ‘no Battery Is Detected’ on mouseover. I have seen solutions online that involve removing the battery and then adding it BIOS with no OS installed.
