So I had the problem when I tried to Join Azure AD on a new Microsoft 365 Tenant I got the following error
Something went wrong.
This feature is not supported. Contact your system administrator with the error code 80180014.

So firstly I went to the web page that was listed in the error, but that wasn’t much help, all it told me was that the device was not supported.
How to fix 80180014 error when joining Azure Active Directory
This issue is caused by not having permissions to enroll personal devices into Microsoft Intune.
- So log into the Enpoint Manager Portal – https://endpoint.microsoft.com/
- Select Devices option in the left hand menu
- Click All users under the Device Type Restrictions in the center of the page
- Go to the Properties tab
- Click the Edit button to edit the platform restrictions
- Then change the personally owned devices from blocked to allowed.
This will now set users in your tenant to be able to Join Azure Active directory without them needing to be setup in the Endpoint Manager first.

I have been using windows for about 3 years for now, I have recently posted about windows signing in as a temp account, I created a new profile because of this problem. I had my school account connected to my pc with the other account, I can not connect it now. What do I do?

I appreciate the efforts taken by you in resolving the issue. I understand that you are receiving an error related to your email account. I’ll certainly assist you with the issue.
However, please let us know:
- When you say “I deleted the e-mail account” do you mean deleting the Microsoft account or deleting the account from your computer?
- Are you using a Microsoft account to login to the computer?
Meanwhile, I would suggest you to refer the troubleshooting steps mentioned below and see if that helps:
- Press Windows logo key + I, to open
Settings. - Click on Accounts, and select
Access work or school from the left pane. - Now, click on the email account and select
Disconnect. - Follow the on-screen instructions.
If this doesn’t work, you may want to try converting the account to a local account and see if that helps. Refer the steps mentioned below:
- Press Windows logo key + I, to open
Settings. - Click on Accounts and select
Your info from the left pane. - Click on Sign in with a local account instead.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.

I suggest you backup your personalized files first before removing the account.
To delete an account, follow these steps:- Press WIN + X keys and click Command Prompt (Admin) from the menu.
- Type the following command and press Enter. Replace test with the name of your sister’s account. Code:

Intune Enrollment Restriction Policies
Let’s understand what is Intune enrollment restriction policies. There are two types of enrollment restriction of policies and then there is a priority setting! More details https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/mem/intune/enrollment/enrollment-restrictions-set.
- Device Type
- Device Limit
- Device Type Restrictions are there to restrict/prevent users from enrolling in particular types of devices into MDM (NOT MAM!).
- These enrollment restriction policies are NOT applicable for MAM enrollments.
- These enrollment restriction policies are NOT applicable to the Azure AD Registration process on Windows 10 devices.

- I have configured the following configuration as per the above blog post to block Windows 10 personal devices.
- + Connect option might work fine for the Azure AD Registration scenario even though you have Device Type Restriction and blocked Windows 10 personal devices from enrolling in Intune MDM. More details about this option here.
Intune MDM Enrollment from Windows 10 Personal Device
I’ve configured MDM auto-enrollment from Intune. As per my understanding, this is applicable only for Azure AD joined devices and personal devices are always Azure AD registered devices. Hence MDM auto-enrollment policies are not applicable there. Let me know in the comments if this understanding is wrong!
Let’s try to understand the Intune MDM Enrollment from Windows 10 Personal Device. There are many ways to enroll a device into MDM management using Intune.
- Company Portal
- Enroll Only in Device Management option
The user got the following error when he tried to perform “Enroll Only into MDM” from Settings 👉Accounts 👉 Access work or school options on Windows 10 2004 version device.
This error is expected if the user who is tried to perform enroll the device is part of the Intune Device Type Restriction policy where personal device enrollment is BLOCKED. More details 👉https://www.anoopcnair.com/block-personal-windows-devices/
Event Logs
Let’s check the event logs to understand the error “Failed to receive or parse certificate enroll response. Result: (Unknown Win32 Error code: 0x80180014).”

- Event IDs are 55, 71, 11, 52, and 59

When joining an MTR to Azure AD and enrolling the MTR in Intune you may receive the following error:

Checking the Intune enrollment logs
Firstly, you’ll need to wait at least 10 minutes for the Intune logs to sync in the back end. Once synced, head over to the Intune portal (manage.microsoft.com), go to Devices > Monitor and click All Users
Locate the failed enrollment and open it to view why the enrollment failed.
To resolve this issue, I’ll need to update my Enrollment Restrictions to allow Personally Owned Devices. This enrollment restriction only targets my MTR user accounts, and Windows Devices.
I could also use the Intune DEM account, or Windows Autopilot to enroll the MTR instead.
Once the policy is updated, wait at least 15 minutes before re-attempting enrollment to let Intune sync in the back end.
You’ll then be able to enroll your MTR!
I just got an interesting error when trying to join a Windows 10 1803 to Azure AD; I was continuously getting the error ‘0x80180014’ when trying to join the device to Azure AD.
The interesting thing was this device has been already Azure AD Joined but has been reset, with all reference in Azure AD or Intune removed. Nonetheless, each time I tried to join again I was getting this error 0x80180014, which relies to ‘unsupported feature’.
After some digging and test I finally found what was blocking it.
If you are getting this error ‘0x80180014 – unsupported feature’, it may be related to the ‘real’ error ‘Your organization does not support support this version of Windows’, which does not make sense neither as the device is running the latest version of Windows 10 (1803).
If this happens, just logon to your Azure portal and reach the Intune configuration blade to take a look at the Device EnrollmentEnrollment Restriction configuration blade.
Then check the Device Type Restrictions rule – you may have only the Default one – and open each of the rule to check if Windows (MDM) is allowed in the Configure platform blade. In my case, for some reason, the default rule (only rule set for the restriction) was change to allow only Android for Word. After switching back Windows to Allow, I was able to join the device to Azure AD again.

I’ve just been looking into the following article:

Obviously, the article talks about existing on-boarding devices into Windows Autopilot in connection with Config Manager. Yesterday, I was testing this scenario in our test environment but wanted to get hold of the transformed JSON from Graph and simply
copy it to a single test device as I didn’t have a Config Manager installation I could use at the time. I got the transformed AutopilotConfigurationFile.json from Graph and saved it into the c:windowswindowsprovisioningautopilot directory on
the test device (the device was not part of any domain and was a device using Windows 10 1809). I then sysprep’d the device so that OOBE ran again for Autopilot. The device was assigned an Autopilot deployment profile which all worked good and
after the device was rebooted and OOBE ran, Autopilot kicked it in (with the company branding etc.) at the end and asked for the UPN for the test user.
However, when I logged in with the UPN of the test user for Autopilot, I keep getting the following error:

The error pertains usually to the version of Windows 10 that is not at the required level (e.g. 1803 when it should be 1809). However, the version I am using is 1809.
One thing that does stand out for me, is that there is no Correlation ID present in the error — perhaps it has been unable to obtain this or process this/not supported due to the approach I amusing? The JSON that was transformed and copied to the correct
autopilot folder on the test device, certainly had a Correlation ID.
Therefore, is it possible that as I am not using Config Manager (as normally, Config Manager would take the Windows 7 build and upgrade as part of the tasks etc.), that this approach of just obtaining the transformed JSON from Graph and saving it onto the
test non domain-joined is not supported? It works right up to the Autopilot branded AADJ section before enrolment but then fails once you log in with the test UPN.
Just to add, that the test user also has a Microsoft 365 E5 subs, so no issues around licensing here.
The test device/environment is:

Microsoft 365 E5 license

Is it possible that the ‘unsupported feature’ 80180014 error is due to this being an unsupported approach and that the device needs to be a Windows 7 device initially and key here, taken through the in-place upgrade process to Windows 10 and then the OOBE
before it will work? I’m just taking a current non domain-joined Windows 10 1809 device and trying to onboard into Windows Autopilot. We’re testing it via this approach, so we can generate the JSON and pass this on to a customer to deploy to their
devices, using whatever toolset/approach they utilise.

Intune Enrollment Restriction Policies
Let’s understand what is Intune enrollment restriction policies. There are two types of enrollment restriction of policies and then there is a priority setting! More details https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/mem/intune/enrollment/enrollment-restrictions-set.
- Device Type
- Device Limit
- Device Type Restrictions are there to restrict/prevent users from enrolling in particular types of devices into MDM (NOT MAM!).
- These enrollment restriction policies are NOT applicable for MAM enrollments.
- These enrollment restriction policies are NOT applicable to the Azure AD Registration process on Windows 10 devices.

Intune MDM Enrollment from Windows 10 Personal Device
I’ve configured MDM auto-enrollment from Intune. As per my understanding, this is applicable only for Azure AD joined devices and personal devices are always Azure AD registered devices. Hence MDM auto-enrollment policies are not applicable there. Let me know in the comments if this understanding is wrong!
Let’s try to understand the Intune MDM Enrollment from Windows 10 Personal Device. There are many ways to enroll a device into MDM management using Intune.
- Company Portal
- Enroll Only in Device Management option
The user got the following error when he tried to perform “Enroll Only into MDM” from Settings 👉Accounts 👉 Access work or school options on Windows 10 2004 version device.

Event Logs
Let’s check the event logs to understand the error “Failed to receive or parse certificate enroll response. Result: (Unknown Win32 Error code: 0x80180014).”

- Event IDs are 55, 71, 11, 52, and 59

When you have configured Microsoft Intune as per your organization requirements and try to Azure AD Join a Windows 10 device you get a pop-up message saying “Something went wrong.” with the error message “This feature is not supported.Contact your system administrator with the error code 80180014“.
You may get the error message while Joining the PC via Settings -> Accounts -> Access work or School or you may get the error message during the Autopilot process. I have captured screenshots for both of these scenarios and pasted it below for your reference:

Solution / Fix for this issue
This error code is caused by the Device Enrollment restriction policy in place. You need to check and make sure Personally owned devices are allowed for Windows (MDM) in the Device Enrollment restriction policy.
If you do not want to allow Personally owned Windows 10 devices to join azure active directory then you can expect this error and should not worry at all as its working as expected. However, if you want to allow personally owned windows 10 devices to join azure active directory then follow below steps:
- Login on Microsoft Endpoint admin center.
- Click on Devices -> Enroll Devices -> Enrollment restrictions.
- Edit the Policy which is applied to the users. If there is only one default policy, edit that one.
- Edit Platform settings.
- Check to confirm if Windows (MDM) Platform is allowed or blocked.
If Windows (MDM) Platform is set to Block in the personally owned column then select Allow and then click on Review + Save.
- Try to join the machine to Azure Active directory via any method and this time there should not be any issues.
